Send us a text What if a single word could change the entire direction of your year? In this episode, I share one of my favorite year-end rituals: choosing a Word of the Year — a simple, powerful practice that helps teens, parents, and school counselors move into 2026 with clarity, intention, and emotional grounding. Instead of setting resolutions that fade by February, one word becomes a compass. A filter. A steady anchor you return to when life gets overwhelming. You'll learn: ✨ Why choosing one word is more effective than traditional resolutions✨ How parents and counselors can guide teens through a meaningful reflection process✨ Easy activities to bring your word to life (vision boards, lock screens, micro-goals, and more)✨ The questions that help kids identify what they truly need in the year ahead✨ My personal word for 2026 — GUIDED — and the story behind why I chose itThis episode will help you and the young people in your life release the pressure of perfection, connect with inner wisdom, and step into the new year feeling calmer, clearer, and more empowered. What's YOUR word for 2026? From there, the conversation shifts into the stress of gift-giving, why it often feels so overwhelming, and why experiences almost always mean more than material things. The episode also touches on investing — stripping away the fear, complexity, and noise to focus on consistency, patience, and mindset — and how lessons from market shifts (like COVID) mirror the way we navigate life. Finally, Christina and Brittany open up about anxiety, especially as it relates to hormonal changes, food cravings, and the comfort found in nostalgia (yes, including the healing power of a grilled cheese). This episode is equal parts grounded, comforting, and perspective-shifting — a reminder that simplicity, trust, and presence often matter more than perfection.About Brittany and Christina:Meet Brittany and Christina, your dynamic podcast hosts who bring their unique blend of expertise, passion, and life experience to every conversation.Brittany, affectionately known as Britt, mom, mommy, bruh, and Queen, lives in Vancouver with her husband and their three fantastic kids (tweens and teens, hence the playful nicknames). In this episode, Christina shares a hilarious moment when her watch strap snapped and clattered to the floor — the kind of everyday chaos every woman knows too well. But the real twist? What happened next: a packed jewelry store, lineups, and people buying high-ticket items like the economy didn't get the memo.Brittany jumps in with her signature perspective, highlighting how these tiny everyday moments tell bigger stories about people, spending habits, and the weird contradictions of “the economy.” Is it struggling? In this episode, I share my reflections on my word for this year, unwavered, and how it's moved itself through me this year. Change happens in our home all the time. With the girls, with living arrangements, with things shifting, coming, going and for years, that stuff used to mess with me big time. I'd get thrown off, attached to the plan we just made that now suddenly changed again, stuck in my rigidness. But this year this was the year I let that shit go. I stopped gripping so tightly to “how it was supposed to go” and softened into what's here. It has been incredibly freeing. The second part of the episode is about coming back to what you wrote at the start of the year with what you wanted to stop, start, and keep doing and actually checking in with how you went with that intention.Let's check in together legends. Buy my book, Authentic - coming home to your true self - AUS, EUR, USACoach with me 1:1 - Book a 20-minute call nowThe Good Life - sign up nowWrite into us - let us know what you want to hearWelleCo - use code KAT15 for 15% off welleco.com.auwww.katjohn.com.auSupport the show

We still need to talk about vibe coding: Reflections on 2025's word of the year

Vibe coding was, remarkably, named word of the year by the Collins English Dictionary at the start of November 2025 — pretty good going for a term that was only coined in February. We first discussed it on the Technology Podcast back in April, and, given its prominence in the collective lexicon this year, thought we should revisit and reflect on the topic as 2025 draws to a close.  Lots has happened in the intervening months: MCP adoption, the evolution of agentic coding tools and practices like context engineering have had a significant impact on the way the world is thinking about and using AI.  To talk about it all and reflect on the implications, Thoughtworkers and regular podcast hosts Prem Chandrasekaran, Lilly Ryan and Neal Ford reconvened for a follow up to our April conversation. Taking in everything from the term's semantic slipperiness, its security risks and the challenges of maintaining AI-generated code, this is a discussion that, despite going deep into vibe coding, also touches on a huge range of issues in the technology industry today. Before we enter 2026, looking back on the good, the bad and the ugly of the last 12 months of experimentation is essential if we're to build better software for the world in the future. This episode aims to be a guide through that process.
