Our West Coast reporting continues with LA Legend Ali Macofsky as we get into SATC S2E8, “The Man, the Myth, the Viagra.” Samantha test-drives sex with an old coot, Carrie proves the haters right and ditches Miranda for Veal Night at Big's, Steve is introduced in such a hot way, and Charlotte is sort of just there. We catch up with Ali about how LA is sexless and the epicenter of looksmaxxing, reminisce over Evan's first kiss (on the Amtrak!) and realize how working at a dry bar is the natural next step for a babysitter. After surviving the Trump jump-scare and note how he subscribes to the pop star theory of never repeating hairstyles, we discuss how Frank Sinatra is Big's Sabrina Carpenter, laud Miranda's lotion acting, and decide on our age ranges for lovers. SUBSCRIBE! LIKE! SHARE, BABY!We are on Carrie's side for most of this episode, except for the ridiculous notion that she's “scared of reaching out to a man”. Sporting an iconic braided hairstyle, her “morning-after pain” is sadly so relatable. Charlotte and Harry warn our hearts with a twist on a perfect wedding, and Miranda meets Debbie's perfectly cast foot. Enjoy!!! Movie of the Year: 2006The Devil Wears Prada (feat. Katie Walsh!)The Devil Wears Prada Podcast Episode: Fashion, Power, and the Best of 2006Welcome to The Devil Wears Prada podcast episode from Movie of the Year: 2006. This week, the Taste Buds enter the gleaming offices of Runway magazine. Furthermore, they bring backup. Film critic Katie Walsh joins Mike, Greg, and Ryan to decide whether David Frankel's fashion-world comedy can survive the 2006 bracket. Along the way, the panel debates feminism in the workplace, the myth of the suffering artist, and the eternal question of Andy's terrible friends. Additionally, the episode features a full Anne Hathaway Career Retrospective bracket. Consequently, this one runs deep on both style and substance.About the FilmThe Devil Wears Prada arrived in the summer of 2006 and promptly stole it. Director David Frankel adapted Lauren Weisberger's bestselling novel about a young journalist grinding through an impossible job. Anne Hathaway stars as Andy Sachs, an aspiring writer who lands a position at Runway magazine. Her boss is Miranda Priestly, the most feared editor in fashion, played by Meryl Streep in an Oscar-nominated performance. Moreover, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci deliver career-launching supporting turns. The film earned over $300 million worldwide and near-universal acclaim. Notably, Roger Ebert praised Streep's icy, understated Miranda as the engine of the whole picture. For more background, the Wikipedia entry on The Devil Wears Prada covers its production and legacy in detail. The film now faces its toughest challenge yet: the Movie of the Year 2006 bracket.Guest Panelist: Katie WalshThe Devil Wears Prada 2006 podcast episode welcomes a genuine authority to the panel. Katie Walsh is a Los Angeles-based film critic who reviews weekly releases for the Tribune News Service and the Los Angeles Times. Additionally, she serves as Vice President of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. Her writing has appeared in GQ, Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, Vulture, Slate, and The Playlist. She co-hosted the podcast Miami Nice and has guest-hosted Switchblade Sisters. Furthermore, she frequently appears on KCRW's Press Play and has taught film criticism at Chapman University's Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. In practice, that means the Taste Buds must actually defend their takes this week. Someone in the room knows what she is talking about.Feminism and the WorkplaceIs Miranda Priestly a feminist icon or a cautionary tale? The panel digs into how the film frames women, power, and ambition. Miranda runs an empire, yet the film punishes her with a collapsing marriage. Meanwhile, Andy gets scolded by nearly everyone for taking her job seriously. The episode asks whether the movie critiques workplace sexism or accidentally reproduces it. Notably, Katie Walsh brings a critic's perspective to how 2006 audiences read Miranda versus how we read her now. Two decades of think pieces have flipped the film's villain into its hero. Ultimately, the panel debates whether that reversal says more about the movie or about us.Can Art Only Come from Suffering?Andy suffers for a job she claims to hate, all in service of her writing dreams. Consequently, the Taste Buds tackle a bigger question: does great art require misery? The film suggests that paying dues at Runway makes Andy a better journalist. However, it also shows the cost. She loses friends, a boyfriend, and nearly herself. The panel weighs the romantic myth of the starving artist against the reality of creative work. By contrast, some of the best art comes from stability, support, and cerulean-blue sweaters chosen by someone else. Above all, this segment asks what we actually owe our ambitions.Andy's Friends: The Worst People in FashionEvery rewatch of The Devil Wears Prada produces the same realization: Andy's friends are monsters. They mock her job, demand free designer swag, and play keep-away with her work phone. Meanwhile, her boyfriend Nate pouts because she missed his birthday party for her career. Therefore, the panel litigates the great question of the film's second act. Are these people grounding Andy in reality, or are they sabotaging her? Specifically, the group ranks the friends from least to most insufferable. Nevertheless, at least one Taste Bud attempts a defense of Nate. It does not go well.Anne Hathaway Career Retrospective: The BracketSpecial segment time. The Devil Wears Prada podcast crew builds a full bracket to determine Anne Hathaway's most iconic role. The field spans her entire career. The Princess Diaries, Brokeback Mountain, Rachel Getting Married, Les Misérables, The Dark Knight Rises, and Interstellar all enter the arena. Additionally, deep cuts and dark horses make surprise appearances. Seeding arguments get heated. Upsets happen. As a result, friendships within the panel are tested. Does Andy Sachs herself take the crown, or does an Oscar-winning turn steal it? You will have to listen to find out. Check Anne Hathaway's full filmography on IMDb and play along at home. Why The Devil Wears Prada Still MattersTwenty years later, The Devil Wears Prada refuses to fade. The film remains a Rosetta Stone for conversations about work, ambition, and the price of excellence. Miranda's cerulean monologue is still the definitive speech about how culture actually functions. Moreover, the movie launched Emily Blunt, redefined Anne Hathaway, and gave Meryl Streep one of her signature roles. A 2026 sequel proved the appetite never left. In addition, the film's questions have only grown sharper in the era of hustle culture and quiet quitting. Is Miranda a monster or simply held to a different standard? Ultimately, that debate keeps the film alive, and it makes for a fierce competitor in the Movie of the Year 2006 tournament.Related Episodes from Movie of the Year: 2006Catch up on the season so far, from the 2006 season introduction to the music that defined the year:Movie of the Year 2006: Intro Part 1The 2006 Bracket Reveal: Meet the Sweet 16Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull StoryThe 2006 Mixtape, Part IAll Movie of the Year episodesFAQ: The Devil Wears Prada Podcast and FilmWhat is this episode of The Devil Wears Prada podcast about? The Taste Buds and critic Katie Walsh debate whether The Devil Wears Prada deserves to advance in the Movie of the Year 2006 bracket. Topics include workplace feminism, art and suffering, Andy's awful friends, and a full Anne Hathaway career bracket. What is The Devil Wears Prada about?Aspiring journalist Andy Sachs takes a job assisting Miranda Priestly, the tyrannical editor of Runway magazine. Consequently, Andy must decide how much of herself she will trade for success.Who directed The Devil Wears Prada?David Frankel directed the film. He later directed Marley & Me and worked extensively on Sex and the City. Aline Brosh McKenna wrote the screenplay from Lauren Weisberger's novel.Who stars in The Devil Wears Prada?Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci lead the cast. Streep earned an Academy Award nomination for playing Miranda Priestly.More Questions About The Devil Wears PradaIs Miranda Priestly based on Anna Wintour?Widely, yes. Author Lauren Weisberger worked as an assistant to Vogue editor Anna Wintour, and Miranda is broadly understood as her fictional counterpart. However, Streep has said she modeled the performance on powerful men she knew rather than on Wintour.Who is the guest on this episode?Film critic Katie Walsh joins the panel. She reviews films for the Tribune News Service and the Los Angeles Times and serves as Vice President of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. What is the Anne Hathaway Career Retrospective? It is a bracket-style special segment. The panel seeds Anne Hathaway's most famous roles against each other and votes round by round until one iconic performance remains. Why does The Devil Wears Prada still matter? The film remains the defining movie about ambition, mentorship, and toxic workplaces. Moreover, its cultural conversation keeps evolving, as the 2026 sequel proved.

We're jumping ahead for an absolute goddamn legend! The original orator of “fuckette” and Iron Lady of Glendale Margaret Cho joins us to discuss her glamorous episode of SATC S4E2, “The Real Me.” Carrie is recruited to walk (and eventually fall) in a fashion show, Charlotte can't look at her vagina, Miranda faces the consequences of having confidence in front of a gym bro (rejection,) and Samantha bares it all in front of Tony Hale for posterity's sake. Margaret shares her origin story with the pilot of SATC, fondly remembers the pre-feud atmosphere with the ladies on set, affirms that New York is the only place you can be broke AND glamorous, and reminds us that we should never give an ugly guy a chance. We get into why you should never set up your gay friends, the lost media of 2000s reality shows, the insidious nature of greenwashing, and how unrealistic it is to have a standing brunch appointment for four. Also Evan didn't find that website, so stay tuned. John Searles joins Carol Fitzgerald to talk about his new novel, SINGLE GIRLS, a work of dramatic fiction set in the 1960s. It focuses on Helen Gurley Brown and the team of women she assembled who transformed Cosmopolitan into one of the best-selling magazines of all time. A Bookreporter Bets On selection, the book has been compared to "Mad Men" and "Sex and the City." John worked at Cosmopolitan and shares his encounters with Helen through the years. The novel is deeply informed by real events, Helen's memoirs, published biographies, and his personal knowledge of the editors who worked there. John had always wanted to write about Helen and had told her so during their friendship, but he had been constrained by publishing expectations to stay within his established genre: suspense/thrillers. The audiobook is narrated by his friend, Amy Ryan, who starred in the film adaptation of his earlier novel, STRANGE BUT TRUE. Carol worked at Mademoiselle, and during their conversation, she shares her background there and how she navigated her early career before leaving Condé Nast and starting The Book Report Network almost 30 years ago. 'Sex and The City' and ‘And Just Like That...' star Kristin Davis joins the show. Over bluefin crudo and purple asparagus salad, Kristin tells me about rediscovering SATC through her rewatch podcast ‘Are You a Charlotte?' and reflected on the show's early days – which included getting episodes on VHS tapes. In 1997, actress Kristin Davis' life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism. An unexpected wedding sends Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha into four very different romantic spirals in Sex and the City: Season 2, Episode 7, "The Chicken Dance." The timing couldn't be better. Coming off the heels of Taylor Swift's Manhattan wedding, one of our favorite girls in town and bride-to-be, Cat Cohen, returns to the podcast to break it all down. Cat brings her dog Romeo to join us as we unpack the episode and, naturally, get wildly sidetracked talking about the Botox-to-autism-and-bone-disease pipeline, our deeply Floptropica dating lives, and what Carrie Bradshaw's perfect hair means to us. One quick note: Evan's phone ran out of storage, so there's no video this week. Tragic, but we soldier on. Carrie's stuck diaphragm. Charlotte's flirtation with the lesbian community. Samatha's lightning puss. We're back on the couch to talk the textbook episode of SATC S2E6: “The Cheating Curve.” With the heart of a lesbian and mind of a straight girl, Charlotte gets in too deep with the sapphic mafia, Samantha gets branded by her gym trainer, Miranda is upstaged by porn, and Carrie keeps her fondue parties with Big a secret. Evan and Amelia FINALLY deep-dive into pubic hair culture, dream of a world in which we have a lesbian president, shudder at the thought of porn immediately popping up in Roku City, and graph the parabola of the cheating curve. A few weeks ago, “Cannonball” hosted its first live show at the 2026 Tribeca Festival. Movies about New York City. Joining him for the conversation is Cynthia Nixon, one of our great New Yorkers. She's made iconic work in the city (like, of course, “Sex and the City”) and is a fierce advocate for the TV and film industry to continue making work here. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Saidah, aka Carrie Bradshaw is she was alive during Instagram reels, joins two of the other bravest singles in New York to discuss SATC S2E4, “They Shoot Single People, Don't They?” After an all-night salsa dancing bender, Carrie shows up late to her New York Magazine photoshoot (looking kind of beautiful?) but gets dragged in print all over the city, Miranda attempts to teach an optometrist how to make her cum, Samatha crumbles in on herself after getting stood up by a “we” guy, and Charlotte fakes intimacy with the future star of Days of Our Mormon Lives. We chat about the importance of a mean gay in your life (especially concerning proper foundation technique,) how a fashion poncho will change the trajectory of a young girl's life, reveal Saidah's personal Neville von Bitchy is actually her aunt, decide once and for all if Evan really did get stood up on their date, and ponder the central question: is it better to be alone or fake it? Plus, Bradley Cooper plays a straight guy and Will Schuester makes his television debut! Find Saidah @applesaidur, you won't regret it. Sami Clarke is back with her self-love and growth series for a Q+A straight from your questions — and she's going deep on the ones you've been sitting with. From navigating the single era in your 30s, to what it actually means to trust your intuition, to how to feel like yourself again when the sparkle feels far away.Tune in as Sami shares what this season of life has really looked like for her: the hard nights, the big realizations, the cry-on-the-couch-watching-Sex-and-the-City moments, and why she's genuinely excited about where she is. She gets into why feeling "behind" in life is a timeline someone else handed you, how your desires are never there by accident, and what it looks like to move your body in a way that actually responds to the season you're in. Nick Smith of the I Never Liked You podcast has joined the circus of Girls Rewatch to help us dissect SATC S2E3, “The Freak Show.” Samantha gets a reverse BBL after a leather freak accurately clocks her age, Charlotte hoards Mr. Pussy and orgasms so much she forgets how to date, Carrie goes on a rapid-fire string of dates only to end up with the biggest weirdo of all (a rec league soccer player,) and Miranda doesn't need to learn a lesson; she already knows all 30+ single men are freaks. We glow over the casual repartee you can have with a gay doctor, discuss possible plans to pull a Samantha and hang out with Gen Alpha to appear younger, wonder why we're not throwing around the word “pussy” like they were in the 90's, and remind Jennifer Anniston she doesn't need to try so hard (you're a star, baby!) Plus, Nick reflects on the pendulum of plastic surgery trends, Amelia mourns the loss of double dates, and Evan shares their hack to the perfect first date (it didn't work for Amelia at the Transit Museum.) Catch Nick's show Hear Me Out at the Bell House on June 20th! And yes, it's homophobic if you don't see him perform during pride month. Mindy Kaling's long-awaited new comedy has finally landed on Disney+, and if you grew up on Sex and the City, Girls and Broad City, it's your next obsession — five hot friends, glossy Manhattan apartments and that razor-sharp humour.Over on Paramount+, a new Aussie dramedy starring Phoebe Tonkin has a ticking-clock premise you'll devour in one sitting. And at the cinema, a gloriously un-PC horror reboot brings Anna Faris and Regina Hall roaring back, every bit as chaotic as the original. Plus the action film everyone wrote off from the trailer — until Nicholas Galitzine, Jared Leto and a scene-stealing Camila Mendes turned it into the most fun you'll have at the movies right now.Remember The Spill drops the tea twice a day in this feed so follow us for all the latest entertainment news… OR you can WATCH our show in full length video on the Apple Podcast app - make sure your phone is up to date and enjoy the watch! Jamie Lee, executive producer and writer on Ted Lasso, writer/ star of Crashing, and Lisa Vanderpump of Gowanas is in the studio to chat SATC S2E2 “The Awful Truth.” Charlotte adopts a Jack Russell Terrorist, Samantha finds allyship with her therapist and breaks up with her tiny penis boyfriend, Miranda experiments with dirty talk, The Girls get messy over mezze when Big shows up to Carrie's birthday dinner, and the world is introduced to the best girl to bring to any gathering: Susan Sharon. We lament over the loss of whimsy in character names (see: Booth Jonathan, Laird, and Mimi-Rose Howard,) petition for themed restaurants to make a resurgence, explain how friends like Susan Sharon are the hack to applying the Pomodoro Method to a social excursion (fodder queen,) and analyze how getting filler is an anxiety response. Writer and cultural critic Phoebe Maltz Bovy joins Meghan to discuss her new book, The Last Straight Woman, an exploration of how heterosexual women became suspect — if not pitifully uncool — in progressive culture. They talk about everything from Tumblr-era feminism and the post-#MeToo recalibration of gender politics to the television series Sex and the City and Girls, "photogenic feminism," bachelorette parties at gay bars, late-in-life lesbians, hookup culture, and why admitting you're a "boring straight woman" may now qualify as a radical act. We also revisit the "lesbian chic" era of the 1990s (my personal heyday), the discourse around the viral New Yorker short story Cat Person, the appeal (and limits) of sexual fluidity narratives, and the cultural overlap between straight female culture and gay male sensibilities. Bonus: They switched gears in the last 15 minutes and did a Deep Dive™ into the subject of buying secondhand clothing from online marketplaces such as Poshmark. This portion is available to paying subscribers. To upgrade your subscription, go to https://www.theunspeakablepodcast.com/subscribe. Guest Bio: Phoebe Maltz Bovy is a Toronto-based cultural critic and the author. She is co-host, with Kat Rosenfield, of the Feminine Chaos podcast, Opinion Editor at The Canadian Jewish News, and host of the Canadian Jewish News podcast, The Jewish Angle. She contributes regularly to The Globe and Mail and is the author of The Perils of "Privilege" (St. Martins, 2017). She also runs a Substack called Close-Reading the Reruns with Phoebe Maltz Bovy.
I am obsessed with Sarah Hoover and this conversation only made it worse. She is an art world figure, a mother, and the author of The Motherload, a memoir that goes to places most women are terrified to admit out loud. It has full on modern day Sex and the City energy except it is real life, it is messy, and it actually matters. A must read.We talked about the disconnect between what we are promised motherhood will feel like and what it actually felt like for her. The shame of looking fine on the outside. The rage. The recovery. Sarah is honest in a way that is genuinely rare and this conversation had that same energy. We laughed, we got into it, and I left so inpsired. This one is not only for every woman who has ever wondered if something was wrong with her for not feeling what she was supposed to feel, but for any woman. It reads like your favorite TV show but with true soul. Run dont walk.Produced by Dear MediaSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
