America swooned for Sex and the City, HBO's glamorous dive into the lives of four women in New York City at the bleeding edge of the 21st century. But early in the series run, there were already rumors of cast disputes, factions, and trouble on set. Had the show been less singular, and less beloved, the actresses likely would have emerged unscathed by the stories, but instead, Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker have spent two decades fielding questions about their alleged feud, and plotting career strategies around the will-it or won't-it return of their most famous work product. It doesn't sound like it's been easy for either of them. Want early, ad-free episodes, regular Dumpster Dives, bonus divorces, limited series, Zoom hangouts, and more? In Episode 136, astrologers Kristina Martin and Tara Redfield take a deep dive into the enduring 28-year coupling between Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker and her Tony Award winning husband, Matthew Broderick. We begin with Sarah's chart, revealing a trendsetting Aries Sun conjunct Venus, highlighting her pioneering spirit and strong valuation of independence. Her Capricorn Moon points to childhood hardships and an emotional need for a solid career and reputation, while Saturn in Pisces brings structure to a romantic, glamorous world—much like the one she created in SATC. Matthew's chart also features an Aries Sun and Venus, but it's opposed by a Libra Moon, softening his Aries energy and contributing to the schoolboy charm he's known for. A stabilizing Saturn/Moon trine suggests maturity in his home life, and an Aquarius stellium reveals a zany, rebellious side. Together, their conjunct Suns create a powerful mirroring effect, and a Sun/Moon opposition provides a supportive, comfortable, and emotionally secure foundation. A Moon/Chiron sextile indicates a profound ability to heal each other, while Moon/Neptune shows an intuitive sync. However, mutually challenging Venus/Moon aspects can create difficulties in domestic agreements, and a Mercury/Pluto opposition may bring tendencies toward paranoia and secrecy. So, how does this iconic couple's synastry ultimately rate? Tune in to discover the final Venus score we gave them! Book a Reading with us! And Just Like That… it's over. Welcome to the MID view of the end of the Sex and the City universe — forever. She's been our problematic friend for 27 years now, hasn't she? Carrie Bradshaw, with her impossible shoes and even more impossible romantic choices. But the truth we always knew? Carrie was never meant to be aspirational. She was meant to be us. Messy, self-absorbed, making terrible decisions in great outfits. She mirrored our romantic disasters, our ambition, our fear of aging — and somehow made it all look glamorous. But now? It’s time to put down the mirror and walk away. After premiering in 1998 on HBO and taking the world by storm, The Sex and The City franchise has ended on the 32-minute, 2nd-of-2 parter episode of And Just Like That… that sucks so profoundly, it spend time its own visual metaphor of a clogged toilet overflowing with human shit rather than satisfyingly address what it should do with the 1,000 characters it's introduced us to. Believe it or not - THERE ARE NEW CHARACTERS IN THIS EPISODE. It is maddening. It is done. And Just Like That…Now would be a very good time to join us at twioat.substack.com Hosted on Acast. In this episode, MediaMaker Spotlight producer Brandon Ferry sits down with two visionary directors whose films were screened at this year's Ebertfest film festival held at the Virginia Theater in Champaign, Illinois. Brandon first speaks with trailblazing director of the 80s and 90s, Susan Seidelman, best known for directing the cult classic, DESPERATELY SEEKING SUSAN (rapturously received at Ebertfest), as well as the pilot and multiple episodes of SEX AND THE CITY, and the early-90's Meryl Streep dark comedy, SHE-DEVIL. The conversation explores Susan's four-decade career directing genre-blending films that reflect her passion for classic Hollywood storytelling, mixed with a playful New Wave spirit– informed by her years living in downtown NYC. Susan also touches upon her recently-released (not to mention sharp-witted) book, titled Desperately Seeking Something: A Memoir About Movies, Mothers, and Material Girls.Next, Brandon has an insightful conversation with up-and-coming writer-director, David Fortune, whose moving feature film debut, COLOR BOOK was warmly received by Ebertfest's audience. COLOR BOOK beautifully tells the story of a devoted single father (William Catlett) embarking on a journey through Metro Atlanta with his 11-year-old son with Down Syndrome (newcomer Jeremiah Daniels) to attend their first baseball game together. Recently named one of Variety's 10 Directors to Watch in 2025, David financed COLOR BOOK after winning AT&T and Tribeca Film Festival's $1 million Untold Stories prize in 2024. David dives deep into his journey writing and directing his debut feature, the challenges he encountered, and the incredible success he has achieved getting his film financed, developed, and screened across the country at numerous film festivals. In what we are led to believe is the very last bit of Sex and the City media ever (for now), Carrie eats at a weird Japanese restaurant, talks to Charlotte about the idea of being alone, passes out pies to everybody, and listens to some very good Barry White. Charlotte gets railed (thank GOD), and in a notably human way, explains what loving someone means. LTW considers leaving her husband because he's sad for a week, and has a confrontation with Marion (a man!) over legitimately nothing, Seema considers whether marriage is something she wants or something that society has conditioned her into wanting, and Miranda throws a Thanksgiving for a group of people that are like what if a Fox News AI bot wrote “Brooklyn Queer People” as a character. And then…it's over. Folks, we go long, and have a lot of thoughts and feelings. We'll tell you this: WE are not going anywhere. It's the end of an era — again — as the surprise finale of And Just Like That has fans bidding farewell (once more) to Carrie Bradshaw & Co. Elaine Low, Sean McNulty and Natalie Jarvey share their takes on the messy send-off (spoiler warnings!), and why Hollywood romance isn't going away like Aidan just yet. In fact, the once-dormant rom-com is in the midst of a 2025 shopping spree, with Netflix, Amazon and others stocking up on meet-cutes to satisfy comfort-craving audiences. The team unpacks what the divisive Sex and the City spinoff says about the market, the genre's economic appeal, and the next gen of rom-coms headed for your queue. Plus: They go inside Hollywood's big four agencies' war to rep digital creators like MrBeast, Alix Earle and Addison Rae, and the brutally honest scoop on whom digital stars choose (and don't) when internet fame tips into “call my agent” territory. Nineteenth-century Americans regarded Paris as a libertine paradise: a smorgasbord of food and fashion, of night life and sex. Today, the pull toward France endures, though the precise nature of its appeal has shifted. On the second in a series of Critics at Large interview episodes, Alexandra Schwartz talks with the staff writer Lauren Collins about her work as The New Yorker's woman on the ground in France and the long lineage of Francophilic Americans—from Edith Wharton to James Baldwin and, yes, even “Emily.” The two consider how French femininity has been marketed to American women and how modern influencers transmit an incomplete picture of Paris. “Yes, it's romantic, and, yes, it's picturesque, but it's also a big, loud, dirty, profane, complicated city that evolves and changes like everywhere else,” Collins says. “There's a lot of misbegotten essentializing that happens when Americans start talking about France.”Read, watch, and listen with the critics:“Ces restaurants qui gonflent l'addition des touristes américains,” by Mathieu Hennequin (Le Parisien)“Can Emmanuel Macron Stem the Populist Tide?,” by Lauren Collins (The New Yorker)“The Unlikely Rise of French Tacos,” by Lauren Collins (The New Yorker)“Dearest Edith,” by Janet Flanner (The New Yorker)“The Custom of the Country,” by Edith Wharton“Go Tell It on the Mountain,” by James Baldwin“Giovanni's Room,” by James Baldwin“The Discovery of What It Means to Be an American,” by James Baldwin (The New York Times)“Emily in Paris” (2020–)“Sex and the City” (1998–2004)“French Women Don't Get Fat,” by Mireille Guiliano“Bringing Up Bébé,” by Pamela DruckermanNew episodes drop every Thursday. From the durable popularity of the original series to the ambivalent comfort of hate-watching the spin-off, the two reflect on what made the franchise so influential, its role in the history of early “prestige TV,” and its place in popular memory. Abby and Patrick watch some classic episodes, unpack the now famous character types of the four women friends at the show's center, and track recurrent themes of fantasy, neurosis, desire, money, identity, and – above all – fashion. This brings Abby and Patrick to dip into the psychoanalytic literature on clothing and fashion, from the status of clothes (like symptoms) as a “compromise” to theories of sexual fetishism to the story of an Esperanto-speaking fashion historian and psychoanalyst who played a key role in an interwar British “dress reform movement.”Have you noticed that Freud is back? In the penultimate episode of the Sex and the City universe, Carrie checks in on an old Tom Wolfe saying at her old place, and considers a request for ending The Woman's loneliness with an epilogue. Miranda goes completely, narcissistically unhinged with a sneaky Thanksgiving invite, Charlotte approaches what *could have been* a nuanced and serious moment of evolution about her feelings about Rock's life, as they star in a musical and show her what another life might have been. Harry has some great lines about his not so straight line, TLDR almost annoys her losing husband into retirement, and Seema gets blown in a shower. It might seem like there's more to it than that, but, ONE MORE EPISODE!
