The Queens take a bite out of nostalgia and end up with a mouthful of disappointment. In this episode, Trey presents a scathing 1 Star Yelp Review of NYC's iconic Magnolia Bakery—specifically the once-revered banana pudding. Is it still worthy of the Sex and the City fame, or has it lost all its flavor? Before the pudding meltdown, Chelsey logs a customer service complaint we all can relate to—being trapped in the purgatory of endless department transfers. Then it's time for the Review Breakdown, where Chef Earth E. spills the (spoiled?) tea on cupcakes that taste like chemicals, banana pudding made of “whipped air,” and the death of culinary pride.⏰ Timestamps:(00:01:00) Lodge A Complaint – Endless Customer Service Loops(00:06:48) Review Breakdown – 1 Star Yelp Review of Magnolia Bakery(00:16:09) The Verdict(00:18:00) Magnolia's Reply Breakdown(00:18:46) My Royal Highness – Perfect Parking Moment(00:22:14) On This Week's After Show Pod – Penguin Overhead Mask ReviewEnjoyed the episode? Let's be friends!Storytelling has the power to bridge divides in ways direct confrontation cannot. In this captivating conversation with author Corinne Cavanaugh, we explore how fiction creates safe spaces to navigate controversial topics and what it truly means to be an audacious woman.Corinne shares the genesis of her debut novel "An Audacious Woman," describing it as "a mashup between modern-day Bridgerton and Sex and the City." The book revolves around Eleanor Beaufort, a wealthy matriarch who feels trapped by her family legacy despite inheriting a $70 million mansion. Through Eleanor's journey, readers glimpse moments of boldness that inspire reflection on their own abandoned audacity—those times before the weight of adult responsibility settled in.What makes this conversation particularly compelling is Corinne's personal transformation. With a Harvard master's degree and successful marketing career, she made the bold choice to pursue fiction writing. Her methodical approach—creating a 5-7 AM writing routine before work and learning from established authors—offers a blueprint for anyone wondering how to pursue their passions alongside existing commitments. Her advice? "Be bold faster. If you've got this inkling, this one idea you've been meaning to do, don't wait."Beyond literary pursuits, our discussion ventures into provocative territory as Corinne challenges the current culture of division. Drawing from her background studying democratization, she advocates for bringing difficult conversations back to the dinner table. "The public needs to be able to feel comfortable talking about these things," she explains, noting that her novel demonstrates how vulnerability and listening can lead to understanding.Whether you're contemplating a major life change, seeking permission to prioritize yourself, or simply wanting an engaging read, Corinne's insights will leave you contemplating what audacity might look like in your own life. After all, as she reminds us: "We've got one ride. Might as well go and chase them."https://corinnecavanaugh.com/home-corinne-cavanaugh/

Now, slight disclaimer here: we used a pre-existing list so some very glaring omissions were accidentally made here (ahem...Richard?) but we can't be spending any more time thinking about straight men than we already do, okay? Just in time for Mother's Day, we are celebrating two, very special mothers this week…educator, mother (of 8), grandmother (of 13) and dear friend, Barbara Forste, and her daughter, award-winning actress, producer and publisher, Sarah Jessica Parker. Barbara Forste is a lifelong supporter of the arts and of literacy and education. She worked in market research for Procter & Gamble, as a second grade teacher, and as a child-wrangler at the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Opera and the American Ballet Theater. She is a co-founder and director of The Children's Circle, a national association for the education of young children. Her very busy daughter, Sarah Jessica Parker, has worked in theater since 1976 from the title role in Annie, to most recently with her husband, Matthew Broderick, in the revival of Neil Simon‘s comedy play, Plaza Suite. From theater to television and film, Sarah Jessica is known most widely for her portrayal of Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City and its sequel, And Just Like That; as well as the films based on the show, Sex and the City, and Sex and the City 2. Sarah Jessica is the publisher of SJP Lit, her own imprint in partnership with Zando Books. She recently executive produced the documentary, The Librarians, a film highlighting librarians across the country who have been fighting against book bans. It will be available for streaming soon.  Adelphi University hosted us at their annual Writers & Readers Festival this year where we were delighted to hold this conversation in front of a live audience of students, teachers, readers and writers. The Writers & Readers Festival was founded by Adelphi alumna and bestselling novelist Alice Hoffman. This is a conversation about how mothers can pass down their love of reading to change their children's lives and ours.  Learn more about your ad choices. How do you take something that's iconically local and make it feel authentic—everywhere? That's the challenge facing every regional brand trying to scale. When your name is practically synonymous with a place—like H&H is with New York City—growth isn't just about expansion. It's about staying true to what made you iconic in the first place. Today, I'm joined by Jay Rushin, CEO of H&H Bagels—a brand so New York it's practically a supporting character on Seinfeld and Sex and the City. But like all of us millennial fans with the appropriate Stockholm Syndrome, We will go into AJLT with positive thoughts and prayers. On this episode, Carrie plans to meet with Big "one more time" for some closure, and Miranda IS. NOT. HEARING. IT. Which, of course, makes Miranda the devil (according to Carrie, who expects a voicemail apology by the time she arrives home). Miranda is shamed by a Chinese restaurant hostess, but is it really just herself projecting? (spoiler: yes AND; the woman is literally laughing at her), Samantha has a super problematic-but-at-the-same-time kinda progressive battle with some "working girls" below her window, and Charlotte and Trey finally manage to CUM to an understanding. Is this one of the most iconic episodes of the entire series, or has every storyline in here become pretty out dated? As it turn out, two things can be very true at the same time. While this episode perfectly captures the humidity of summertime in New York and. the fashion is ON POINT, its no longer really a THING to judge someone for having to live with their family, or to be shocked by the appearance of marijuana on our tv screens. But back in the late 90's, we were happy to see that 420 representation! Also, Trey continues to be the absolute WORST baby adult ever, and refuses to acknowledge that his issue in the bedroom needs to be DEALT WITH. Also, Miranda gets braces. Enjoy!!!LEAVE US A VOICEMAIL FOR OUR MAILBAG AND WE WILL PLAY IT ON AN EPISODE :)This month on PATREON:4/2 Mailbag4/9 The Golden Girls S2 E16 "The Truth Will Out"4/16 Smash S1 E4 "The Cost of Art"4/23 Girls S2 E6 "Boys"4/30 Pillow Talk Hosted on Acast. Andrea Long Chu was once one of Brittany's favorite Sex and the City bloggers, and she's now a Pulitzer-winning critic. Andrea lends her critical eye to everything from the TV show Yellowstone to the work of Sally Rooney to pro-Palestinian protests and free speech. And she does it with wit, style, and fearlessness. Brittany chats with Andrea about her new book, Authority - a collection of some of Andrea's best work, along with two new essays. They discuss why art is a "fossil record" of desire, what kind of authority critics have, and why we might need to rethink what criticism should do for us.Learn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy

Welcome back to the Morning After Series on SUPERWOMEN, sponsored by Magnum Ice Cream! In the fourth and final episode of this series, Candace Bushnell, the creator of “Sex and The City,” and I met up with with Dorinda Medley—beloved “Real Housewives of New York” alum, author of “Make It Nice,” and ultimate New York icon—for an unfiltered conversation about reinvention, relationships, and what it really means to grow into yourself. In this episode, Dorinda brings her signature wit and honesty to the table as she reflects on the wisdom and peace that come with age, the art of the hard reset, and how she learned to manage anxiety by embracing stillness. From spontaneous kisses over Sunday lattes to morning walks in Central Park (with perfectly groomed dogs), Dorinda reminds us that life is best lived with heart, intention, and a healthy dose of humor. We also dive into the evolution of dating after 50, why women should lean into saying yes, and how Blue Stone Manor became not just a home but a sanctuary. We get into the “floozy clause” of prenups, the realities of Upper East Side divorce culture, and the beauty of female friendship. This episode is sponsored by Magnum Ice Cream (US).
