Welcome to Episode 10! Back to the comedy with Matt Carter talking about Nate Bargatze! Matt has been making his way through the Southeast on the Stand Up stage. I knew him back in high school when he was in a bands and theater with me! I was delighted to hear that he has been following one of my true all-time passions, comedy! Naturally I decided it was time to have him on the show, the chemistry was already there. Matt talked with us about Nate Bargatze who just recently released a Netflix special and has been making his way through the comedy scene with his clean comedy acts that remain relatable still! This conversation really brought to light the impact of how you feel about and perceive things while approaching any part of art or entertainment. A lot of these questions were written while watching Chase Jarvis' interview with Nate titled Nate Bargatze: Creativity, Comedy + Never Settling. I'd highly recommend checking that out! What is up music fans?! THIS EPISODE IS HUGE! Episode 9 features Michal Menert! Michal was a huge part of the beginning of Pretty Lights Music! But that's not his only claim to fame. He has been smashing festivals and local venues for years! This is by far one of the most soulful musicians alive. From the things he says, to the sounds he broadcasts through the speakers, the feels are unstoppable and palpable! Michal talked with us about The Everlasting Beastie Boys! Listen in as we talk about being impacted by music at a young age, the difference between city life and being surrounded by trees and peace, and what happens when you leave your comfort zone. Michal is such an insightful and artistic human being and a glimpse into his mind is always motivating/enlightening. These two artists single handedly changed the scope of the genres they burst into starting out. Local Denver based comedian Rick Bryan sat down to chat with us about his inspiration Eddie Murphy! Anyone who has laughed before knows exactly who Eddie is! Episode 7 is up! We sat down with Colorado based Turvy Organ to talk about one of their inspirations Modest Mouse. When we found these guys at a local venue we were instantly hooked on their sound! They’ve got that core Modest Mouse feel, while still maintaining their own unique sound. We’re back!! Life got in the way, but art never dies! We talked with the lovely and flexible Jordan Remar (dancer for Govinda and many others) about one of my favorite performers alive, Zoe Jakes (Beats Antique). This show is a new one in many ways. First of all this is our first episode featuring a woman! Not only that, but we get to get into something different than just musicians, we are talking about dance! This episode is as awesome as it sounds, we break down what it means to dance to every bit of the music. Jordan talks with us about beginnings, paving the way for live dance in the music festival scene, and the ways perceive dance and movement. Jordan is such a soft and sweet person to have on this show and we can’t thank her enough. Welcome to Episode 3! We sat down with Blockhead to discuss hip hop and sample legend Prince Paul! Prince Paul is most famous for his work with De La Soul and made some immense strides in the way sampling was handled in the 80’s/90’s. In this interview we break down what changes happened within hip hop to get where we are today. We also talk about sampling then vs. now. Blockhead is a super knowledgeable person about the history of hip hop. This interview is so informative and covers how we approach the ever changing landscape that rap music has experienced. And what better artist to discuss this with than someone who cranks out some of the most unique and intricate sample based beats. Blockhead has worked with a multitude of people from Illogic to Aesop rock. This NYC based producer is not afraid to let his weird style shine through. From the multitude of different albums he has released it’s easy to see the range this man is capable of. These are two similar artists that still maintained their own lanes in their art form. We also get into Blockheads previous projects and groups to see where the style that inspired him bled through the most.
