One of my favorite episodes of the year - the week before Memorial Day Weekend. This episode features a really good conversation with Julie Rockcastle, Jen Raines, Payge Olson, Isa Cardenas and Steve Rockcastle about the upcoming Great Blue Heron Music Festival on July 4th, 5th and 6th at the Heron and all the different activities, features and music that will be there that weekend; volunteering opportunities so you can be part of the inner workings of the festival and get a free festival pass; this upcoming Nature and Wellness weekend at the Heron and all the free (yes, free!) activities and workshops this weekend, and the Heron's annual May Day celebration on Sunday that really kicks the summer off! Plus music and cuts from Jim Donovan & The Sun King Warriors, Driftwood, Cool Cool Cool, Jimkata, Ryan Montbleau, The Rumble feat. Chief Joseph Boudreaux Jr., Sneezy, Max Childs, New Planets, Julia., Florencia & The Feeling, Beats Antique, Andy Frasco & The UN, Shadowgrass and The Gunpoets. An hour and a half well worth listening to. Enjoy! Kip

As broadcast October 8, 2023 with plenty of variety for everyone.  Tonight we welcomed a very wild and worldly collective named Famous Japanese to take over hour one of the show.  We talked with their Berlin-based lead singer Nanako in the studio as the band took us on a rousing trip through their influences, which include traditional Japanese folk songs, Turkish and Middle Eastern vibes, and so much more.  It's honestly hard to even know who or what shows up when the band is in town, as they can morph up to eight members and we cannot recommend their show in Seoul this coming week with No.1 Korean, as that should be a very unique experience.  Speaking of unique, our second hour we welcomed Melbourne-based vocalist Tanya George, who discussed her appearances on The Voice Australia along with support from the Lord Mayor herself!  An incredibly interesting look into Tanya George's creative process with influences listed from Billie Eilish, Jamiroquai, Florence + The Machine, and more famous names along with local Aussie shouts for AKOSIA, Blush'ko and Tayana Taylor in the process.#feelthegravityBusking World Cup 2023 Special #52023.10.08Tracklist (st:rt)Part 1 with Famous Japanese (00:00)Famous Japanese – Famous JapaneseSayuri Ishikawa – Tsugaru Strait/Winter SceneryKula Shaker – Govinda Ismail Kivrak – MastikaIkuzo Yoshi – We're going to TokyoPink Lady – Pink Typhoon (In The Navy)Gultekin Ekrem – Damat Oyunu Part 2 (35:07)Famous Japanese – ABUDAEBIBeats Antique – EgypticDALI – Moonlight LegendNo.1 Korean – RosaTOSH – Something's WrongKen Matsudaira - Ken EDM Part 3 with Tanya George (66:15)Tanya George – WoodlandBillie Eilish – What Was I Made For?AKOSIA – GOErykah Badu – AppletreeBlush'ko – Know You Better Part 4 (97:22)Tanya George – WelcomeFlorence + The Machine – You've Got The LoveAriana Grande – Into YouH.E.R. – Focus Jamiroquai – Virtual InsanityTeyana Taylor – Gonna Love Me

David Satori (@davidsatori) is one of the Beats Antique trio and co-creator of the band, Dirtwire. Born in Burlington VT, David was inspired by the rich local music scene and started playing guitar and drums at the age of 13. David produced his first original album with his band Bubble Tribe in 1997 as a senior in high school and went on to study music at CalArts in Los Angeles, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Composition and Performance in 2001. After college David bought an aging airport shuttle bus, converted it to run on vegetable oil and toured the US with his bands The Funnies, a four piece space funk band, and Aphrodesia, a female fronted futuristic Afrobeat big band from San Francisco. David also co-founded and produced events with The Sustainable Living Roadshow, a traveling eco festival. In 2006 David helped organize a month long West African Tour with Aphrodesia and the African Showboyz from Ghana, which culminated in twonights at the legendary Shrine in Lagos, Nigeria, the musical home of Femi Kuti, son of Fela Kuti. After returning from West Africa David committed to recording with Beats Antique, a trio born in the San Francisco performance underground, Burning Man and West Coast Bass music scenes. Beats Antique soon became an international touring production and has released over 10 albums in 12 years, all written and produced by the band. On a parallel track to Beats Antique David pursued a recording project with his long-time bandmate and friend Evan Fraser, which evolved into Dirtwire, a trio with the addition of Mark Revely, that tours internationally and has released 9 albums. Davidsatori.comIf you dig this podcast, would you be please leave a short review on Apple Podcasts? ill.Gates is a name known by nearly all producers in the English speaking world. His songs have been in the iTunes Top Ten Electronic Charts several times. DJs play his music every weekend and fans wear their ill.Gates tattoos with pride. Some of his collaborators include 42 Dugg, Alanis Morisette, Andrew Huang, Apashe, Beats Antique, Captain Hook, CloZee, Conrank, The Dead Kennedys, Destroid, Eprom, EyeOnEyez, G Jones, Gucci Mane, ill-esha, KJ Sawka, Liquid Stanger, Masia One, Mimosa, Minnesota, Mr Bill, Opiuo, RIP Kenny, Stephan Jacobs, Stylust, UHNK, Vaedynn, and Zain Effendi (composer on Pirates of the Caribbean, Dark Knight). Emerging from his own distinct corner of the West Coast electronic music scene, Random Rab offers a powerful and unique contribution to sonic exploration. Often referred to as “The Master of Emotion” his music is patently beautiful and melodic. With diverse influences ranging from trip-hop, classical and Arabic to bass driven compositions, his songs are considered anthemic and timeless. As a multi-instrumentalist and singer, his tracks are organic, uplifting and stand on their own as a distinct genre. Listeners of all types of music can find something they can relate to in his sound. He has toured extensively across North America, including tours with Bassnectar, Shpongle, Emancipator, Beats Antique, and has headlined dozens of festivals across the U.S. and internationally. There is no doubt that Rab understands a multitude of musical styles. He has been the front man of a heavy metal band, toured as a classical trumpet player, played bass in a country music band, was a scratch DJ for a jazz fusion project, was the singer for a rock band in Mexico and has collaborated with countless musicians of all styles. From acoustic performances in the Himalayas to rocking packed clubs in New York, Random Rab has found a way to connect with people of all kinds. With a dedicated fanbase born from the San Francisco underground, Random Rab has become known world wide for his sunrise sets that have now become one of his most sought after performances. Having played before 3 solar eclipses and at the Pyramids of Giza, Random Rab has created a unique niche for his equally danceable, yet thought-provoking compositions. His current popularity can often be traced to his breakout album, The Elucidation of Sorrow and in particular his first hit, The Riddle and followed up by hits such as Release, Falling Tao, For My Corpse and Apparently. His critically acclaimed current and 10th album Formless Edge, catapulted him into the state of momentum that is now taking hold internationally. randomrab.com eastforest.org/podcast

Join us as we celebrate the end of a movie-length duel with arguably the most exciting— and strangely disgusting— episode of Yu-Gi-Oh yet. Jimmy loved it, Tyler hated it, and Bakura stole the whole damn thing. This is a whole new game! This week’s recommendations: Jimmy: Listen to Beats Antique! Tyler: Watch Jeopardy! Lauren: Watch Countdown! You can get in touch with us on Twitter and Instagram @yampod, email us at youactivatedmypodcast@gmail.com, and leave us a review on iTunes!

On this episode of Expanded Perspectives the guys start the show off talking about how a man in Clarke County, Alabama says he and his family are “tired of dealing” with a Bigfoot creature and are threatening to kill it unless officials come to “capture and remove it”. Then, the elusive, deep-sea-dwelling giant squid, with eyes the size of basketballs, may be larger than it has gotten credit for. In fact, the monster cephalopod may grow to be longer than a school bus, researchers say. Specimens recognizable as giant squid (Architeuthis dux) have been found washed up onshore since at least 1639. However, these sea monsters — which some people say inspired the legend of the giant kraken, though not all scientists agree — are so elusive that they were largely thought to be mythical until they were first photographed alive in their natural environment in 2004. Then, a team of young Japanese engineers is developing a flying car with the goal of launching it in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The futuristic vehicle  dubbed Skydrive  is fitted with three wheels, a motor and four rotors, enabling it to take off and land vertically from public roads without the need of a runway. Measuring only 9.5 feet by 4.3 feet, Skydrive claims to be the world’s smallest flying car, with a target top flight speed of 62 mph, while travelling up to 32 feet above the ground. Then, In India, witch hunting dates back hundreds of years. It emanated in the Morigaon district of Assam which is now infamously known as the ‘Indian Capital of Black Magic’. People from far-flung areas would come here to learn 'witchcraft'. Even today, witch hunting is being practiced in the State and has become a burning issue, where predominantly women fall prey to this heinous crime. After the break we talk about and listen to some strange encounters several of our listeners have had. So...sorry for not giving credit where credit is due, but here are the steps:  1. Cut the sleeves and collar off of a T-shirt (since this skirt version doesn't taper the fabric in at the waist at all I recommend using a shirt that fits you rather snugly, or you'll have weird bunched up fabric around your waist). If you'd like a straight edge at the bottom of the skirt then just cut off the whole section from under each sleeve (at the armpit) to the other side. I like the look of little slits at the side, so I didn't cut straight across.  2. Cut a hole in the bottom hem of the shirt. The bottom will now become the waistband. Using a safety pin - or a bodkin - thread 1/4" elastic or a strip of fabric through the bottom hem. (I used a piece of stretchy fabric, which gave me a cute bow with some cute dangle-y ties, but also made the waist super elastic comfy). If you're planning to just put in elastic then you can make the hole on the inside of the shirt hem so that the hole is hidden.  3. Ta-da! It looks a little boxy in this pic, but that's only because my floor has no curves. It's actually pretty flattering for a 5 minute project! :-) Don't forget that this skirt version turns the shirt upside down, so if your T-shirt will look weird upside down then don't do this version. I think the Beats Antique logo looks fine upside down, so I didn't mind it being flipped. :-)

Ladies and gentlemen, beautiful bois and grrls, I am INSANELY pleased to announce that THE FIRST NEW EPISODE OF ECLECTICA IS NOW OFFICIALLY ALIVE AND KICKING!!! ^_^In this first, brand new episode, the show is ALL about bellydance!  In fact, this show is dedicated to all the amazing dancers in my life, as well as every single amazing dancer out there; male or female, big or small, young, old, able-bodied or otherwise, who is moved and inspired by this incredible, empowering artform. ^_^  To every single one of you; you guys ROCK.  This is for you. ♥♥♥ ^_^-And in honor of that artform (which has basically, blessedly, eaten my brains ;)) I've structured this first show a little like a bellydance class- or a multi-faceted Middle Eastern Dance show. :D  So.. without further ado- here goes!  On with the show! ^_^ If you cannot see the audio controls, your browser does not support the audio element (Click here to play in a new tab, or right click "Save As" to download the full show- for free!)Band Names = Links to each band's official web site- where available).Song Names = Links to where you can BUY each musician's work- LEGALLY.  :)Background music:  TsG TrIB - GsY MixDeirdre Flint - Introduction to BellydancingShanghai Restoration Project - Babylon of the OrientBeats Antique (featuring LYNX) - She's Looking for SomethingThe Glitch Mob - Drive it Like You Stole It (Mixtape Version)Solace - BounceBrothers Of The Baladi - Nebtidy M'nain El Hakiah(Where Do We Begin Our Story?)Michael Beach - La Casa De Malfouf (The Malfouf Rhythm)Arabesque - Rak's en NarSchmoolik & DeScribe - Modern Day Moses(The Stolen Casios Remix)Pentaphobe - I Cash RadiiDJ Tomasc - Romica StepDead Can Dance - The Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove♥The first portion is stuff to get your ears intrigued, your blood pumping, and your body eager to MOVE. ^_^  The second portion is more directly inspired by Eastern and Middle Eastern music, (which some associate more with Cabaret-style bellydance).  And the last segment offers music with a more modern twist, but still touches of various types of Eastern influences.  (Think more Tribal & Fusion inspired work. :))  Each part of the show was designed to flow well from one section to another (so you may notice a little blending or overlap of styles at the edges of each segment at times).  But no matter what style or section of the show you're listening to, I hope it ALL makes you wanna dance- move, shimmy & strut- even if you've never taken a SINGLE bellydance class. ;D  (And if you like what you hear, srsly, go out and BUY this stuff from the musicians.  Every little bit helps to support new and interesting music to be made by these awesome and often unsung artisans of audio! :D)Of course future episodes of Eclectica will have all KINDS of other music interspersed within, but as bellydance has become such a HUGE part of my life, you'll find a good many of the shows from here on out featuring music that'll make you wanna shake your money-maker in all KINDS of marvelous ways.. ;D  -And to those who fear the show will -just- be Middle Eastern from now on, FEAR NOT!  Songs of -all types- make me want to get up and dance- be they fast, slow, Jazz, Folk, Blues, Rock, Pop, and on and on, so whether a show is bellydance-inspired or not, Eclectica will -still- be Eclectic- and feature all KINDS of great music. ^_^And of course, this is just the start of the coolness I have in store for future episodes of Eclectica, so if you like what you hear, please, let me hear from you! ^_^  Feedback from listeners means SO MUCH to us li'l indie podcasters (as it lets us know that our music is being heard), so every little bit of interaction counts more than you could possibly know. :)  (And since we appreciate it so much, we're also more likely to get back to you with responses, which is not something always experienced w/the bigger, more fancy types of entertainment media. ;))  Plus, as this is also a proving ground to see whether or not the show will continue (and if so, in what direction), the more feedback I get from you, the better the show will likely be! :D (Plus- the more likely that the show will be tailored to you. ;D)  So if you have any comments, questions, thoughts, ideas, suggestions, or concerns, please drop on by and leave a comment- either here, on Eclectica's Facebook page, or via my e-mail addy, at; djselchie @ gmail . com.  (W/spaces omitted, of course. ;))  ^_^Thank you so much to -everyone- who's helped and supported Eclectica in previous years, as well as in this new incarnation, and thank all of YOU out there who're listening!  Plus, extra-special thanks go out to Deirdre Flint, Beats Antique, LYNX, Pentaphobe, DJ Tomasc and Dead Can Dance's Brendan Perry, who kindly gave their exclusive permissions for their music to be played here on Eclectica.  (To each and EVERY one of you guys; thank you thank you thank you thank you- SO MUCH! *beams*)  And to ALL of you; my bands and my listeners, supporters, signal-boosters, onlookers and all; I love y'all.  I hope that you dig what you hear, and brightest of blessings. ^_^Yours Forever in Song,DJ Selchie♥♥♥☼

Durango-Silverton RR Dec 01 | 24 bit (1:33)Hi, and welcome to the Open Licensed Music Podcast, the show where we highlight music from artists who let you share their music.  I'm Ralph Wacksworth, and today's episode is featuring steampunk music.  A bunch of the songs this week have vocals, but there are also a bunch of instrumentals, too.  So let's get started! The Watchmaker's Apprentice (5:41)Fig Leaf Rag - distressed (3:29)Battle In The Sky - A Steampunk Orchestra (3:01)Eighteenth Century (1:51)"Epic" Orchestral Piece (3:00)The Clockwork City (12/14) (1:55)Frost Waltz (2:18)That was a chunk of Durango-Silverton RR Dec 01 | 24 bit by BoilingSand, which is available from FreeSound and is licensed under an Attribution license.  If you ever get a chance to ride the Durango and Silverton, it is an excellent ride and well worth it to go see.  After that was The Watchmaker's Apprentice by The Clockwork Quartet, which is available from their website at clockworkquartet.com and is licensed under an Attribution Noncommercial Share-Alike license.  Then we had Fig Leaf Rag - distressed by Kevin MacLeod, which is available from incompetech.com and is licensed under an Attribution license.  Next up was Battle In The Sky - A Steampunk Orchestra by Walid Feghali and Eighteenth Century by Niklas Stagvall, which are both available from SoundCloud and are licensed under an Attribution Noncommercial license.  After that was "Epic" Orchestral Piece by Steven O'Brien and The Clockwork City (12/14) by David Cordero Chang, which are both available from SoundCloud and are licensed under an Attribution license.  And finishing up was Frost Waltz by Kevin MacLeod, which is available from incompetech.com and is licensed under an Attribution license.Although I'm a big fan of open licensing, I also very much enjoy music from artists who are either independent or are on labels which kind of buck the trend of seemingly the majority of the mainstream music industry and actually like the fact that they have people listening to their music.  And with steampunk music, although I can't play it on here, there is a lot of really good stuff either direct published or on small labels.  A few songs I can heartily recommend listening to include:- Airship Pirate by Abney Park- Steph(v)enson by The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing (who actually released a version of that album on wax cylinder)- All Hail the Chap by Mr. B The Gentleman Rhymer- I Want Only You by The Cog Is Dead- Just Glue Some Gears On It (And Call It Steampunk) by Sir Reginald Pikedevant, Esquire- Roustabout by Beats Antique- and Lament for a Toy Factory by Dr. SteelMost of this week's music was chosen more for a mechanical sound than for anachronistic style combinations.  Stuff that just sounded to me like it went well with a slow speed reciprocating engine.  Not everyone considers the same things "steampunk music", since it's not a particularly well-defined genre, but this kind of thing falls pretty squarely into that category for me.Steam Train Interior (2:16)Railroad (1:42)Atom Hub Toolshed_contextual_demo (0:36)Tim Reed - Four Miniatures for Violin and Cello Duo (excerpt 1) (1:01)Clockwork Symphony (2:30)04 A Garden in Italy - The Archive Box - Stereochemistry (4:10)That was a chunk of Steam Train Interior by allh, which is available from FreeSound and is licensed under the CC0 license.  After that was Railroad by Jake Tickner and Atom Hub Toolshed_contextual_demo by Walid Feghali, which are both available from SoundCloud and are licensed under an Attribution license.  Then we had Tim Reed - The Archive Box - Stereochemistry by stereochemistrymusic, which are both available from SoundCloud and are licensed under an Attribution license.Today's app-of-the-day is OpenTTD, a transportation network simulator where your job is to build a system of road, rail, air, and ship routes to connect together towns and industries to move people and goods around the map in the most efficient way possible.  It's a little like if you took just the transportation components of a city simulator and extended it into its own game.  For example, not only do you build train stations and tracks, but the terrain of the tracks will slow down your trains if they hit a hill.  You also have to do regular maintenance on your vehicles and even build their routes and schedules.  I'll admit I'm pretty terrible at playing it, partially due to my propensity to overuse trains instead of other forms of transportation, but I still have a lot of fun playing it.  It's available for Linux, BSD, OpenSolaris and OpenIndiana, AmigaOS and MorphOS, BeOS and Haiku, OS/2, RISC OS, Android, PalmOS, Symbian, Nintendo DS, Wii, PSP, Apple iOS, Mac OS X, MS-DOS, and Microsoft Windows.  Download it today at openttd.orgNow for a short noncommercial break from one of our nonsponsors followed by more music.20000 Leagues under the SeasTower Bridge old machine room (1:00)CONCERNS (3:36)Monomental (3:20)Prelude No. 7 in A major, Op. 2g on a crappy old, out of tune, upright piano (1:44)Shine On, Harvest Moon (1:55)Ain't Nobody's Business (5:44)Steampunk Girl (3:56)That was Tower Bridge old machine room by The London Sound Survey, which is available from SoundCloud and is licensed under an Attribution Noncommercial license.  After that was CONCERNS by AKAJULES and Monomental by aledjones_musics, which are both available from Jamendo and are licensed under an Attribution Noncommercial Share-Alike license.  Then we had Prelude No. 7 in A major, Op. 2g on a crappy old, out of tune, upright piano by Steven O'Brien, which is available from SoundCloud and is licensed under an Attribution license.  Next up was Shine On, Harvest Moon by Nora Bayes and Jack Norworth and performed by Bill Kramme singing with himself, which is available from SoundCloud and is licensed under an Attribution Noncommercial Share-Alike license.  After that was Ain't Nobody's Business by Porter Grainger and Everett Robbins and performed by Cryindtbuffkin, which is available from SoundCloud and is licensed under an Attribution license.  Finishing up was Steampunk Girl by John Anealio, which is available from his website at johnanealio.com and is licensed under an Attribution Noncommercial license. So, that's all for today.  Remember - piracy of commercial music only proves your dependence on that model and justifies further censorship and restriction.  So don't pirate it - replace it with something better.  Listen to open licensed music, donate to the artists behind it, go to concerts, and buy music from artists whose record labels don't see you as their enemies.  Support artists where your support actually counts. This episode was made using Gentoo Linux, Xubuntu Linux, Audacity, Audacious for organizing playlists, and Leafpad for notes, and is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution Noncommercial Share-Alike license.  Feel free to give it to your friends, or if you didn't like it, your enemies.  Links to the songs in this podcast are available on the website.  Listen in next time for some celtic music.  See 'ya!Download MP3

His tale is set in the famous Guča Festival in Serbia, where his crazy, sexy Extra Action Marching Band came up against the world's best brass bands.
