This week we return to the work of Vera Brosgol, in a coming of age story with an obsessed ghost, a surly protagonist, and a message about what we really want and who we really want to be.
We discuss two bone-chilling comics about ghosts: Animus by Antoine Revoy and Anya's Ghost by Vera Brosgol. We talk about vengeful spirits, cursed playgrounds, stories with no endings, and how important it is to always pack a snack, just in case you end up spending the night trapped in a hole with a dead body.

Vera Brosgol is Russian-American and has recently published Anya's Ghost, a young adult graphic novel about how a high school friendship with a ghost turns creepy. She is also a storyboard artist at Laika, where she worked on the films Coraline and the upcoming ParaNorman. T. Edward Bak's natural history-oriented graphic novel biography, Wild Man - The Strange Journey and Fantastic Account of the naturalist Georg Wilhelm Steller, was serialized in the Fantagraphics comics anthology MOME. The aritst has conducted his own researhc in Southeast Alaskaand the Aleutian archipelago as well as the St.Petersburg (Russian Federation) where he recently delivered presentations of his work for this ongoing project. Anya's Ghost by Vera Brogol In this graphic novel, Anya, embarrassed by her Russian immigrant family and self-conscious about her body, feels like she'll never fit in with kids at school. Then she falls down a well, where she stumbles onto a skeleton. And meets a ghost. The ghost needs her help, and offers in return, to help Anya survive in school. At first, having a ghost for a friend is great. Until the ghost starts taking over... Audience: Teens
