On today's episode, we're still in the ACOSF world! Some might say we are currently surviving, not thriving, and we need some content to get us through the next few weeks. We will be back with our House of Flame and Shadow by Sarah J Maas analysis, but for now, we will be discussing books and topics that bring us (and hopefully you) joy. You asked and we have delivered. Today we are discussing the romantasy standalone The Poison Daughter by Sheila Masterson. This book has poisonous lips, sisters, and Emily's favorite...a bratty FMC. Harlow Carrenwell enters into an arranged marriage (Lizzy's favorite) where the wedding rituals are essentially various levels of vulnerability: physical, mental, and emotional. We share which would be the hardest of the three to perform. Emily shares what her limited capacity for physical touch would be. Author pintrest boards, trust no one, and taking the dog. Did we mention the worlds worst parents? There is an abundance to choose from. Welcome to Academia Unlocked, our literary deep-dive series on Book Talk for BookTok! In this episode, we kick off our three-part series discussing Interview With The Vampire by Anne Rice With over 13 years of combined academic training in literature and creative writing, we walk listeners through the foundational tools of reading beyond the surface. The book community talks about the "decline of literacy" constantly, but almost no one stops to define what literary literacy actually is or how to build it. This series exists to change that. One of the most common ways readers come to Interview with the Vampire is as a horror story. A man becomes a monster and spends eternity regretting it. But Anne Rice was doing something far more precise on the page: writing a confession that doubles as an elegy, for grief that couldn't be named, for love that couldn't be spoken, for a community already disappearing before the world had a word for what was taking it. This series is about making space for both of those readings at once. Whether you fell in love with Lestat on your screen, couldn't put the novel down at 2am, or only know Louis de Pointe du Lac as Brad Pitt looking beautiful and tragic, this series will give you the critical lens to engage with Anne Rice's world with more depth, more confidence, and a lot more to say. หนังสือ You're Not the Problem: The Impact of Narcissism and Emotional Abuse and How to Heal ของ Helen Villiers and Katie McKenna - คุณไม่ใช่ตัวปัญหาที่แท้จริง แต่ความคิดที่เราคิดว่ามันคือตัวตนของเรามากกว่า - แสดงว่าความคิดของเรา ไม่ใช่ตัวเรา มันสามารถปรับเปลี่ยนได้ตลอดเวลา - อารมณ์มากมายที่มันถาโถมมายังที่ตัวเรา แน่นอนว่ามันอาจจะดีขึ้นหรือแย่ลงก็ได้ - หากเราไม่สามารถรับมือกับอารมณ์ได้ เราจำเป็นจะต้องหาสื่อการเรียนรู้ที่ช่วยเรา ไม่ก็ไปบำบัดก็ดี - ทั้งนี้ ทุกยุคสมัยมักจะมีการเปลี่ยนผ่านของอารมณ์ เช่น ความเครียด ความทุกข์ และเรื่องที่ไม่มีใครเข้าใจเราในแต่ละเรื่อง
As we wrap up our A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J Maas analysis, we take a quick break to revisit your favorite made-up Taylor Swift game! Jac and Amy each come with a quote from Taylor Swift's The Life of a Showgirl album and the other person has to guess what ACOTAR character they are thinking about. Does it make sense? Not entirely. Do they know what they are doing? Hardly. Will Amy get fed up with Jac's BS? Absolutely. Nesta, Cassian, Rhysand, Feyre, Azriel, Elain, Lucien, Tamlin, Amren, Mor, Eris???? Who will they choose? In this episode of “Book Talk with Yuko,” the hosts begin with a light conversation about spring and cherry blossoms, comparing experiences in Japan and the UK. They then transition into discussing recently read books and a magazine discovery.Yuko introduces a magazine she picked up due to interest in a featured model, noting how refreshing it felt to engage with non-algorithm-driven content. She highlights how magazines expose readers to unexpected topics and perspectives. Noriko shares a novel by Emi Yagi, describing its unique premise about a woman who lies about being pregnant at work, sparking a complex narrative. The discussion continues with a newly published novel about a couple navigating pregnancy, blending humor with social themes. Noriko then reflects on rereading classic works like Natsume Soseki's “Kokoro” and Hoshi Shinichi's short stories. While “Bokko-chan” impressed her with its futuristic themes, “Kokoro” left her feeling conflicted due to differences in historical values and gender roles. Finally, Yuko talks about a book by Beat Takeshi, appreciating its candid social commentary. The episode emphasizes how reading across genres and eras can provoke reflection, discomfort, and meaningful discussion.

Christian Hosts Rob’s LA Book Talk Survivor fans are in for a treat as Christian Hubicki sits down with Rob Cesternino for a special live interview celebrating Rob's New York Times bestselling book at a sold-out Barnes & Noble event in Los Angeles. There's a behind-the-scenes look at Rob's transition to full-time podcasting, the growth of the RHAP patron community, and the importance of just taking the leap to follow your passions, even if it all starts with a weird idea and a lot of trial and error. – Rob explains how the book came together in time for Survivor's 25th anniversary and what it meant to weave his autobiography into the show's legacy – Reflections on working with co-writer Alex Pavlovic and searching through years of RHAP archives – Anecdotes about Survivor superfandom, chance celebrity encounters, and picking which Survivor moments did (and didn’t) make it into the book – Christian asks Rob about work-life balance, advice for creators, and the evolution of Jeff Probst's legacy – Audience Q&A covering everything from the best forgotten players to how Survivor (and RHAP) connects fans around the world Jump into this candid conversation to learn what happens when Survivor's biggest superfan turns his microphone toward his own story, and find out why Rob's journey connects with superfans and newbies alike. 0:00 Barnes and Noble Live Podcast 0:30 Rob Cesternino's Survivor Journey Recapped 2:13 Writing the Survivor Book: Inspiration 4:06 Editing Survivor History Into Essays 6:34 Audience Judgment and Survivor Analysis 8:16 Evolution of Heroes and Villains Explained 12:15 Rick Devens vs. Joe: Hero Dynamics 15:41 Comparing Rob and Jeff's Career Approaches 21:32 Going Full Time With Podcasting 26:38 Advice: Starting Your Creative Passion To order Rob’s book, The Tribe and I Have Spoken, visit www.robhasabook.com Never miss a minute of RHAP's extensive Survivor coverage! Dive into our literary analysis of A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas, the bestselling author behind the global phenomenon A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR). In this season, we break down ACOSF through an academic lens, using our combined 13 years of literary training to analyze Nesta Archeron's character arc, Cassian and Nesta's relationship, and the deeper themes driving Sarah J. Maas's storytelling. We explore key elements of the novel, including symbolism, metaphor, imagery, and character development, while examining major A Court of Silver Flames themes like trauma, healing, power, and transformation within the ACOTAR series. Spoilers: This episode contains full spoilers for A Court of Silver Flames, the entire ACOTAR series (A Court of Thorns and Roses, A Court of Mist and Fury, A Court of Wings and Ruin, and Frost and Starlight). Any other books or larger Sarah J. Maas universe theories and connections will be discussed in a separate Breadcrumbs and Broomsticks episode. Chapters Summary: At the Court of Nightmares' Winter Solstice ball, Nesta stuns the room (and Cassian) when she dances with Eris, wielding her beauty and skill as weapons in service of the Night Court's political game. Back at the river house, Nesta navigates her first real Solstice with the Inner Circle, and Cassian's gift cracks her open, and she finally tells him the truth of her feelings, feelings he echoes in his actions. In the weeks that follow, Nesta settles into a contented routine of training, singing, climbing the stairs, and choosing to live her life. But when Cassian confronts her about their mating bond, Nesta fractures under the weight of what it means to lose the last thread of her humanity. Calling in their bargain, she sends him away, finds her footing with her friends at Emerie's cottage, only for the Blood Rite to begin and the Illyrians to steal the Valkyries in training away. Each week, we ask ourselves a question: Is accepting their love, and their mating bond, an act of courage or the loss of control for Cassian and Nesta? Cara welcomes author Nancy Naigle to Book Talk to discuss her upcoming novel Home No Matter Where, the third of the Shell Collector books that can be read as standalones. Nancy shares how her career as a Bank of America senior vice president and a difficult season inspired her to write uplifting small-town love stories designed to help readers through hard days. She explains how The Shell Collector was born from grief after losing her husband in 2014 and a real story about shells with scripture found on a North Carolina beach, later becoming a Fox Nation movie and a Bible App devotional. Nancy previews Home No Matter Where as a coastal community story about Nina, a divorced mom dealing with her daughter Kendra's difficult teen struggles, found family, and a gentle friends-to-lovers romance with Fisher, and she highlights themes of trust, belonging, and healing. You can learn more about Nancy and her books at her website: https://www.nancynaigle.com/Want to watch this interview? Welcome to Academia Unlocked, our literary deep-dive series on Book Talk for BookTok! In this episode, we kick off our four-part series discussing The Color Purple by Alice Walker. With over 13 years of combined academic training in literature and creative writing, we walk listeners through the foundational tools of reading beyond the surface. The book community talks about the "decline of literacy" constantly, but almost no one stops to define what literary literacy actually is or how to build it. This series exists to change that. One of the most common ways readers come to The Color Purple is as a survival story. A Black woman endures the unendurable and finds her way through. That reading is real, and it's earned. But Walker herself was doing something far more precise on the page: building a "womanist manifesto in fiction form", a text where the shape of the writing is inseparable from what it means. This series is about making space for both of those readings at once. Whether you've read The Color Purple once in high school or carry it with you everywhere, this episode will give you the critical lens to engage with it with more depth, more confidence, and a lot more to say. Text me your thoughts or questions on this episode! This week's episode is a little different — and honestly, a little vulnerable for me. After ten years and more than 400 episodes of Slow Style Home, I'm pulling back the curtain on what it's really taken to create this podcast, and why I've decided to make a significant change. I've always believed that what we choose to surround ourselves with reflects what we truly value, and lately I've been turning that same lens on my own work. I've reached a point where I need to ask an honest question: Is what I'm creating something you value enough to support? So I'm shifting to a mostly paid model — not as a sales tactic, but as a way to align my work with what it's actually worth and to connect more deeply with the people who genuinely feel that pull toward creating a meaningful home. This isn't about pressure or persuasion. It's about making an intentional choice (the same kind I talk about all the time) and finally being willing to stand behind the value of what I've built. Rachel Hauck guest-hosts Book Talk to interview regular host Cara Putman about her May release, The Targeted, book three in the Secrets to Keep series, available for pre-order. They read the back-cover blurb and discuss the story of Chloe Ainsworth, a gymnastics coach whose estranged sister returns after 14 years with news that Chloe's abuser is back, prompting Chloe and law student Dare Shepherd to pursue help through a legal clinic while the stakes escalate. Putman explains the book's blend of legal suspense and romance, its “ripped from the headlines” focus on abuse in youth sports, and the fractured sister relationship shaped by silence and trauma. She describes using Dare's law-student limitations to balance legal tension with character-driven emotional stakes, explores truth-telling and its cost, and weaves a lighter faith thread centered on endurance, God's presence in suffering, and forgiveness, aiming to leave readers with hope and greater empathy.Want to watch this interview? Text me your thoughts or questions on this episode!I keep thinking about how often we walk into a gallery already convinced we don't belong there and how quickly that belief starts to shape what we choose. In this week's episode, I sit down with gallery owner Liz Lidgett to talk about her new book “Art Is For Everyone”. Because collecting art isn't about having the right words or the right budget, it's about being willing to notice your own reactions and trust them. We talked about how your taste develops through exposure—by looking at a lot of art, by saying no without apology, and by getting curious about why something pulls you in. A good gallerist isn't there to judge you; they're there to help you translate those instincts into something tangible. And yes, we got into the practical side: price, scale, the mistake of buying small just because it feels safer, but what matters more is understanding that art isn't meant to match your room, it's meant to lead it. When you let yourself buy from that emotional place, you're not just filling a wall, you're creating a home that reflects you in a way nothing else really can. Chapters Summary: Nesta begins to reclaim control over both her body and mind. As training intensifies, she, Gwyn, and Emerie explore the ways Valkyries trained, and in the process, Nesta discovers a growing sense of inner stillness and strength. Her bond with Cassian deepens through both physical intimacy and shared purpose, though their emotional balance remains uneven. At the forge, Nesta unknowingly imbues weapons with her power, hinting at her ability to create objects of immense magic. Meanwhile, the Inner Circle debates hiding this truth from her, because as Nesta grows stronger, so too does the question of whether she is becoming a weapon to wield, or a weapon that will be wielded against them. Each week, we ask ourselves a question: Just how harshly is Nesta judged compared to her sisters? Text me your thoughts or questions on this episode! In this episode of the Designers at Home series, I take you inside the home of designer Jo Berryman, a space that, to me, perfectly embodies what it means to honor both history and personal expression. As we move through her home together, I'm struck by how effortlessly she blends old and new, preserving original architectural details while layering in sculptural, modern elements and deeply personal touches. What I love most is how grounded her approach is in nature; nothing feels overly forced or decorated for decoration's sake. Instead, there's this beautiful sense of rhythm, of organic shapes, of materials aging and evolving over time. It's a reminder that our homes don't need to be perfect or finished—they just need to feel considered, alive, and reflective of who we are.
