Comic book plots cover a wide array of topics, from UFOs, the paranormal, conspiracy theory, and even some prophecy, as much of what is being presented seems to forestructure the future and approximate what the Brave New World would be like. Granted, it's a comic book world - the challenge is to resist being seduced by comic book simplicity. On this colorful episode, Clyde Lewis has a conversation with comic book illustrator Pat Moriarity about COMICKAZE UNIFIED SQUAD. In 1948, a small town in West Virginia became the center of a growing national fear over the perceived evil influence of comic books.  There, in the town of Spencer, a schoolteacher and her students gathered thousands of comic books and set them ablaze in a bonfire, starting with one featuring the Man of Steel, Superman. What led to this dramatic moment? Journey with us to the early days of the concept called a mini-series. With four issues, writers and artists had the opportunity to explore characters and concepts that might not easily fit into an ongoing monthly title. For example, our choice for this month's book club is Hercules, the 1982 series from creator Bob Layton and Marvel Comics. Taking place some time in the future, Hercules is sent to space by his father, Zeus, to find humility.
