Rev. Karen Worth was interviewed by Laura “Joy” Bedford. Karen's journey towards understanding began in 2006 while standing at her mailbox. As A Course in Miracles teaches, “The wish to see calls down the grace of God upon your eyes and brings the gift of light that makes sight possible” (25:6:3:1). It was at this moment that Grace intervened, and Karen came to a profound realization that her own mind could be her downfall if she didn't make a change. This marked the beginning of her path of surrendering to the truth. Her journey started by working with the subconscious mind through Centerpoint Holosync meditation. She then progressed to working with the conscious mind through Vipassana meditations, A Course in Miracles (ACIM), and eventually Self Inquiry. Alongside these practices, she sought guidance from various gurus and teachers. It was during this time that she met Regina at a local ACIM meeting, which led her to further explorations, including ACIM gatherings, the CMC Ministerial program Ministerial program, Awakening Together's MPP, Ramana Maharishi's teachings, Michael Langford's insights, and AHAM meditation and retreat center. In 2018, Karen dedicated several weeks to a Rupert Spira meditation on Existence. She was determined to grasp the essence of Rupert's teachings before moving forward. During a walk, she posed a profound question to her mind: “If I'm not the body, then what exists?” Everything came to a halt as her mind grappled with the question and eventually surrendered, realizing that it did not exist as a distinct identity. There was only existence. This revelation echoed the words of Moses, “I am that I AM.” As a community, our mission is to guide individuals toward self-reliance on their inner wisdom, and Rev. Karen Worth exemplifies the heart of this mission through her personal journey of aligning with her inner wisdom. She shared how her path evolved from being an “Awakening Together member with a seeker identity” to experiencing the shedding of various identities. There is no place we can be that takes us out of union with everyone. There is nothing we can do that excludes us from the oneness of which we are a part.Anything that seems counter to that is a mistaken belief, a “tiny, mad idea”, an illusion. A dream. But we will all awaken to the oneness we never left. And we can take comfort in that awareness. As A Course in Miracles so beautifully reminds us, “Where God is, there are you.”Support the show (https://www.livebeyondtheillusion.com/contribute)
There is one simple test we can use to determine our level of peace in any situation. How invested are we in the outcome? If we have a strong desire for the situation to turn out a certain way, then we know our investment is high. If we want a person to change (either their behavior or their thought patterns), then once again, we can be certain that our vested interest is substantial. And one telltale sign of investment is how firmly we assert our opinion - even if it’s just to ourselves. As A Course in Miracles succinctly states, “Insistence means investment.” The more we insist on things being a certain way, the greater our investment. And, consequently, the less our level of happiness. One of the most popular - and often quoted - lines in the Course is this: “Do you prefer that you be right or happy?” Whenever we are insistent, we are clearly declaring our preference to be right. When we let go of our insistence - which only occurs by choosing against the ego - then our investment in any situation immediately drops to zero. It’s not that we don’t have a preference in things being a certain way, but our sense of peace or happiness is completely independent of the outcome.Imagine living in each moment with no cares and no worries! That’s what the world is like without insistence. That’s what choosing against the ego feels like. And that’s what we can practice anytime we find ourselves wanting things to be different than they are.Support the show (https://www.livebeyondtheillusion.com/contribute)
Fear is perhaps the most predominant emotion we experience. Much of our lives are spent either avoiding fear or striving toward goals we believe will reduce fear.If we honestly assess our daily motivations and thoughts, we’ll discover that fear plays a central role in much of our physical and mental activity. But it doesn’t exist. As A Course in Miracles so powerfully states, “Fear is not real.” We made it up, as a means to prove that we are unique, autonomous selves and that we can suffer.Yet while we believe fear is real and substantial, it won’t help us at all to simply pretend that it doesn’t exist. The most helpful thing we can do is recognize that we are indeed choosing fear, that it doesn’t feel very good, and that there must be another way of looking at this. That “little willingness” to see our lives from a different perspective is the opening of the doorway to peace.Support the show (https://www.livebeyondtheillusion.com/contribute)
Today’s inspiration from A Course in Miracles is this: “The ear translates; it does not hear. The eye reproduces; it does not see.” We think our ears and eyes hear and see reality respectively. But they don’t.As A Course in Miracles goes on to say, “The body’s eyes see only form. They cannot see beyond what they were made to see.” Elsewhere, “See how the body’s eyes rest on externals and cannot go beyond. Watch how they stop at nothingness, unable to go beyond the form to meaning.”When we judge anyone, whether we think they are good or bad, we are not seeing them for who they are. We are seeing form, but totally missing meaning. In fact, judgment and meaning are antithetical. Judgment comes from our ego mind, and meaning comes from our mind of love. All seeing and hearing occurs in the mind. And when we’ve chosen the ego mind, nothing we see (or hear) will bring us happiness. And we will judge everything and everyone around us.Conversely, from the mind of love, we can only experience peace and joy. And from this mind, we see the sameness in everyone, the love that unites everything - a state of true vision.Support the show (https://www.livebeyondtheillusion.com/contribute)
It's that haunting time of year! You don't have to be afraid of the "bumps in the night" that occur from the thoughts of the past. Let's shove those skeletons back in the closet where they belong and roll along in peace with the Holy Spirit. Rev. Deb shares a recent personal story of doing just that. As A Course in Miracles says, "Children perceive frightening ghosts and monsters and dragons, and they are terrified. Yet if they ask someone they trust for the meaning of what they perceive, and are willing to let their own interpretations go in favor of reality, their fear goes with them. When a child is helped to translate his 'ghost' into a curtain, his 'monster' into a shadow, and his 'dragon' into a dream he is no longer afraid, and laughs happily at his own fear."
