“The Broadcom acquisition changed VMware's business strategy—and prices—overnight. Our job is to make the exit as simple as possible,” says Peri Uday Bhaskar, of DartIQ. In this Technology Reseller News podcast recorded at MSP Summit, Publisher Doug Green speaks with Bhaskar about DartIQ's focus: accelerating and de-risking VMware workload migrations to customers' preferred destinations—public cloud, private cloud, or on-prem. Bhaskar notes that VMware's long-time stability masked how dependent many organizations became on its licensing model and partner ecosystem. After Broadcom's acquisition, customers reported steep subscription price increases and a shift to bundled SKUs—from roughly 8,000 products to just a handful of bundles—forcing buyers to pay for features they don't need. He adds that discounts frequently require 3–5-year commitments, and many smaller customers are now confronting a minimum 72-core buy that doesn't fit their footprint. The result: VMware line items that jump 4x to 10x and a rush to evaluate alternatives. DartIQ's answer is vMigrate, a hyper-automated platform that consolidates the multi-step migration toolchain—discovery, assessment, planning, landing-zone build-out, and cutover—into a single workflow, which Bhaskar says can deliver up to 60% time savings compared with traditional approaches. Key capabilities include: Workload analysis & customized cloud planning: Breaks VMware estates into workload packages, validates readiness, and models target-cloud cost, architecture, and trade-offs before a move. Automated landing-zone assignments: Translates on-prem VMware constructs into the correct public/private cloud equivalents and builds the plumbing (networking, policies, placements) to ensure workloads run on day one. Destination flexibility: Supports migrations to public cloud, private cloud, or back to modernized on-prem—wherever the business case lands. “VMware is a feature-rich, solid platform,” Bhaskar says. “But when costs spike tenfold, customers—especially small and midsized organizations working through MSPs—need a clear, automated path to right-sized alternatives.” This DartIQ offering is purpose-built for MSPs: the company engages through the partner channel and provides assessments, planning, and migration execution with the goal of reducing both project complexity and services spend for end customers. Learn more: Visit DartIQ's website and the team's blog (referenced as datakey.ai in the conversation) for migration primers, cost-modeling insights, and MSP scheduling via Calendly.
For landlords, school districts can make or break an investment. Families will pay a premium to rent in top-ranked districts, but today's high prices and interest rates make cash flow nearly impossible in these areas. In this episode, we dive into the latest Realtor.com data showing million-dollar-plus price tags in elite districts like Carroll ISD in Texas and Laguna Beach in California, where even $9,500 rents don't cover costs. We'll also explore why mid-tier schools—rated 6 or 7—often represent the real sweet spot, balancing affordability, cash flow, and tenant stability, and how revitalization, zoning, and tech-driven growth are reshaping the equation. In this episode of Nigeria Daily, we dive into the disconnect between fattening FAAC coffers and the harsh realities on the ground. We'll explore the root causes of this paradox and ask the tough questions: what's holding back development? And what needs to change for Nigerians to reap the benefits of these record allocations?
What if the emotions you were never allowed to feel are the same ones making you sick? In this powerful episode of Trauma Rewired, we explore the lifelong impact of emotional neglect and suppression, and why emotional processing is often the hardest part of healing. From childhood modeling to nervous system adaptations, Jennifer Wallace and Elisabeth Kristof break down how early emotional neglect leads to emotional insecurity, chronic shame, and deep patterns of dysregulation that affect everything from gut health to fatigue. We unpack how the nervous system stores repressed feelings like sadness and anger, and why “not feeling” is a survival pattern, not a personal failure. This episode walks you through how emotional repression becomes muscle tension, immune suppression, and gut dysfunction, and what you can do to begin feeling again. You'll learn gentle, neuro-somatic practices—like tapping, swaying, and interoceptive awareness—that help you mobilize emotions safely, access your inner signals, and rebuild your capacity to feel. This is not about forcing your way through; it's about creating the conditions where your nervous system finally says, “It's safe now.” This episode is a compassionate guide to the emotional labor you never got to do—and the healing that begins when you finally do. Topics discussed in this episode: ● The connection between emotional neglect and emotional insecurity ● Why emotional processing is stored in the nervous system—not just the mind ● How repression contributes to chronic pain, immune dysfunction, and gut issues ● Understanding shame, freeze, and the reflex to shut down ● Gentle tools for mobilizing emotion: tapping, swaying, movement ● How to train interoception and recognize internal signals ● What chronic fatigue may be telling you emotionally ● The emotional roots of “numbness” and “overwhelm” ● Why your body is holding what your mind avoided ● How to rewire your nervous system to feel safely ● Why healing is about expanding capacity, not fixing emotion Resources mentioned: Explore the Neurosomatic Intelligence Coaching program: https://neurosomaticintelligence.com/ Get started training your nervous system with our FREE 2-week offer on the Brain Based Membership site: https://www.rewiretrial.com Find Trauma Rewired on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@TraumaRewired Connect with us on social media: @trauma.rewired Join the Trauma Rewired Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/761101225132846 FREE 1 Year Supply of Vitamin D + 5 Travel Packs from Athletic Greens when you use our exclusive offer: https://www.drinkag1.com/rewired Trauma Rewired podcast is intended to educate and inform but does not constitute medical, psychological or other professional advice or services. CTO Series: The Anti-Scaling Paradox: Why and When a CTO Should Refuse to Grow His Team with Markus Hjort In this BONUS episode, we dive into a fascinating conversation with Markus Hjort, Co-founder and CTO of Bitmagic. With over 20 years of software development expertise, Markus shares invaluable insights on tech leadership, team scaling, and how AI is transforming the landscape of software development. From pivotal career moments to practical advice on aligning tech strategy with business objectives, this episode offers wisdom for technology leaders and developers alike. Defining Moments in Tech Leadership "As a leader, for me, it is important that we have a positive attitude." Markus reflects on two pivotal experiences that shaped his leadership philosophy. Early in his career, he received feedback about his positive approach to challenging tasks, which reinforced his belief in maintaining an optimistic outlook when facing difficulties. This approach has allowed him to inspire team members during tough situations. The second defining moment relates to estimation skills. After participating in a rescue mission for a delayed project, Markus learned the importance of making realistic ballpark estimates rather than succumbing to unrealistic deadlines. His initial two-year estimate for a project was met with resistance from a client who wanted it done in two months, but the project ultimately took four years to complete - twice his original estimate. Leads by example with a positive attitude toward challenges Values the skill of making quick but realistic ballpark estimates Recommends "Programming Pearls" for developers to improve estimation skills Emphasizes that product developers should create different options to reach goals In this segment, Markus refers to the book Programming Pearls. Aligning Tech Strategy with Business Objectives "Nothing should come for me as a surprise." When it comes to ensuring tech strategy supports business goals, Markus emphasizes the importance of continuous communication with key stakeholders. Through regular informal discussions, he stays aware of emerging ideas and maintains strong relationships with decision-makers. This approach helps him anticipate future feature requirements and translate technical strategy into business objectives. The foundation of this alignment is built on trust and transparency. Maintains constant discussions with critical stakeholders Develops awareness of emerging ideas through informal conversations Identifies and builds relationships with decision-makers Translates technical considerations into business language Fostering Collaboration Between Tech and Business Units "In the end we create the shared understanding and the habit of working together which creates better alignment and trust." While structured meetings are important, Markus believes that true collaboration happens when people work together across departmental boundaries. In previous roles, he implemented small, cross-functional teams that included business representatives during feature development. At Bitmagic, they conduct regular gameplay test sessions that anyone in the company can join, fostering unpredictable connections and conversations. These informal interactions are especially valuable in a remote-only company. Creates small teams with business representation for feature development Implements regular demo sessions open to everyone in the company Encourages cross-departmental work to build shared understanding Emphasizes the importance of informal discussions in remote environments Scaling Engineering Teams Strategically "You have to be careful when to scale, and when not to scale." Markus advocates for a measured approach to team growth during scaling phases. He believes in small teams of talented individuals and prefers to grow at a deliberate pace rather than rushing to add new members. Sometimes, he's even paused hiring to focus on meeting milestones with existing resources. When rapid scaling is necessary, Markus recommends considering contractors to reduce risk and gain specialized expertise quickly, particularly in fields like gaming that require deep specialization. Believes in small teams of talented individuals Grows team size at a deliberate pace Sometimes pauses hiring to focus on delivery with existing team Strategically uses both employees and contractors based on circumstances Navigating Financial Challenges in Startups "From the tech view it was clear this was not a good idea, but from the business perspective, it was the right decision to make." One of the toughest challenges Markus faced involved making difficult decisions during financial constraints. In a previous startup, when resources were tight, he had to split his team between the main product and a "side project" that had been sold to generate revenue. Though technically suboptimal, this business-driven decision was necessary for survival. This experience highlights the complex balancing act CTOs often face between technical ideals and business realities. The Impact of AI on Software Development "It has changed my way of thinking of my work as a programmer." Having worked on AI-powered game development for over two years, Markus has witnessed the rapid evolution of AI technologies. This experience has influenced his approach to team expansion, as he considers how AI might augment human capabilities. Personally, he now uses code assistants regularly and wouldn't return to traditional programming methods. AI has transformed his workflow as a programmer and expanded his capabilities, particularly as a full-stack engineer. Measuring Engineering Success Beyond Metrics "In early startup stages, one of the critical metrics is 'the working software.'" Rather than relying heavily on rigid metrics, Markus focuses on practical indicators of success for engineering teams. In early-stage startups, he prioritizes the frequency of releasing working software to end users. Additionally, he monitors team energy and morale, looking for signals in commit messages and code review comments that might indicate the team's well-being. As teams grow, he sees value in using tools to help track these emotional indicators systematically. Focuses on frequency of releasing working software Monitors team energy and morale as key indicators Looks for signals in commit messages and code reviews Considers team well-being as important as technical output Recommended Reading "Press 'pause' when you feel you are in a crisis situation." Markus credits "Rapid Development" by Steve McConnell as a significant influence on his approach to software development, particularly before Agile methodologies became mainstream. One lasting lesson from the book is avoiding the anti-pattern of "abandoning all planning under pressure." Instead, Markus recommends pausing when facing a crisis to reassess and plan effectively, rather than rushing into reactive solutions. About Markus Hjort Markus Hjort is the Co-founder and CTO of Bitmagic, with over 20 years of software development expertise. Starting with Commodore 64 game programming, his career spans gaming, fintech, and more. As a programmer, consultant, agile coach, and leader, Markus has successfully guided numerous tech startups from concept to launch. Is your entrepreneur overflowing with ideas but feeling frustrated that no one is listening? This episode reveals how you can step up as a vital sounding board, transforming those fleeting thoughts into actionable plans. Entrepreneurial team expert Shannon Waller explains how enhancing your listening skills makes you an invaluable asset to your entrepreneur. While you get to collaborate creatively with your entrepreneur, you'll also usher in new solutions that drive growth for your company. Download Episode Transcript Show Notes: Be A Great Sounding Board Volunteer to listen: When your entrepreneur shares an idea, express interest in scheduling time to learn more about it. Capture ideas: Keep a running list of your entrepreneur's ideas in something that you can access from your phone, like Trello or Asana, anytime a new idea comes up. Before the discussion, make a note about what intrigued you about the idea or what questions you immediately have. Be present: Clear your mind and focus on the conversation. If you're distracted, your entrepreneur will sense it and share less. Listen generously: Use phrases like, “Tell me more” to invite deeper discussion. Lean in physically to show engagement. Create a safe space: Make it comfortable for the entrepreneur to express their thoughts, even if they lead to a “bad idea.” Capture the summary of main points: This is easy to do with Strategic Coach® tools, but even typing out the key points discussed afterwards takes the idea from the “make it up” stage closer to “make it real.” Characteristics Of A Great Listener Enthusiastic and curious: Show genuine interest in the ideas being shared. Translates back: Reflect back what you hear using phrases such as, “It seems like … ” or “It sounds like … ” Great interviewing skills: Ask questions about what intrigues you and what the context is—what the problem is that this idea solves. Or, repeat the last three words to confirm that you're listening and encourage further expansion. Add your viewpoint: Adding your own thoughts shows you're listening and thinking about what is said. Tools For Effective Conversations Use Strategic Coach tools: Tools such as The Strategy Circle and Impact Filter can help guide discussions. The Strategy Circle®: Identify goals, obstacles, and strategies. The Impact Filter™: Discuss the purpose, importance, ideal outcome, and success criteria. Certainty/Uncertainty Focus: Explore what is known and unknown about the idea to get more clarity about who should be doing what. Approach With The Right Mindset Be curious, not ego-driven: Focus on the entrepreneur's ideas rather than seeking personal recognition. Use your strengths: No matter your strengths, lean in to them to balance your entrepreneur's strengths. Enjoy the process: Embrace the creative act of ideation with your entrepreneur. Be open: Keep an open mind to new ideas, but also be willing to let them go if they turn out to be not worth pursuing. Final Thoughts Transformational impact: Your role as a sounding board can lead to significant breakthroughs for the entrepreneur and the team. Recognize your skills: You may already possess these listening skills. Acknowledge and enhance them for greater impact. South African guitar virtuoso Derek Gripper plays music originally meant for the 21 stringed lute-harp, the kora, on his 6-string Segovia-styled guitar and does it so well that the world's leading guitarists and kora players keep wondering how one even does that. His original music is informed by kora masters Toumani Diabaté, Salif Keita, Estonian minimalist composer Arvo Part, Brazilian guitarist Egberto Gismonti and German Baroque innovator, J.S. Bach. Watch out, because he's about to collaborate with the Iraqi-American oud player and composer Rahim Alhaj. (Ed. note: just wait until the 11 or 13-strings of the oud and those maqams make it to the 6-string guitar in Gripper's hands!) For now, Gripper plays another unbelievable arrangement of a Malian kora song, as well as an original song informed by the cascading style of kora music, plus some of the second cello suite by J.S. Bach, in-studio. - Caryn HavlikSupplemental Reading: The Beauty of Everyday Things, In Search of Lost TimeSet list: 1. Alla L'a Ke 2. Moss on the Mountain 3. J.S. Send us a textOn today's show, the last of 2024, we talk to Keith Payne about his recent boat building and poem writing project. Currachs and naomhógs are among the only sea craft built upside down, and the expertise dates back generations. Keith learned all of this and a. lot more when he found himself working on a Dunfanaghy currach over 16 weeks. He was Cork City Library eco-poet in residence from 2022 to 2023 when he was drawn to the work of Meitheal Mara. He learned about carpenters' marks and pigtails and how to row with Naomhóga Chorcaí. His latest work, Building the Boat, records his experiences with Meitheal Mara in verse, and it has just been published by Badly Made Books. He also talks to us about Whales and Whales, his recent translations of a powerful Galician poet, Luisa Castro. The second half of today's show is a look back at some highlights from our podcast in 2024, with contributions from Michael Agustin, Dermot Bolger, Kerry Hardie, Aoife Lyall, Victoria Kennefick, Mary Costello, Paul Muldoon, Neil Astley, Gormfhlaith Ní Shíocháin Ní Bheoláin, Noel Monahan and Christine Dwyer Hickey. This episode is supported by a Project Award from the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon.Intro/outro music: Colm Mac Con Iomaire, ‘Thou Shalt Not Carry' from The Hare's Corner, 2008, with thanks to Colm for permission to use it.Support the show

In the constantly evolving world of law enforcement, connecting police officers with the latest research is crucial for effective, evidence-based decision-making. Yet, traditional academic publications are often inaccessible, both in cost and in technical language. Applied Police Briefings (APB) steps in to bridge this gap, providing law enforcement with free, practical and concise summaries of cutting-edge research. By transforming academic findings into easily digestible briefs, APB empowers officers and departments to stay informed and apply data-driven strategies in their everyday duties. In this episode of the Policing Matters podcast, host Jim Dudley speaks with APB founders Craig Bennell and Kirk Luther about their mission to make police-relevant research accessible and impactful. Both established academics and passionate advocates for evidence-based policing, Bennell and Luther saw firsthand how critical findings were failing to reach those in the field. Through APB, they're addressing this need by curating essential studies, stripping away complex jargon, and presenting them in a format that is meaningful and useful for officers and police leaders alike.
