Awakening Together Presents Being Aware of Awareness Guided Meditations
During this episode the quote, "As we understand ourselves, so we see the world." from Rupert Spira and "Thought of Awakening" #78 & 79 were contemplated.
It can be easy to think of flow in terms of performance but there is much more to it than that – not least that in flow our sense of self disappears and a deeper intelligence arises – some call it the 'intelligent unconscious'. The intelligence that is running 99.9% of the processes in your body right now without your interference – and that is the source of true creativity. Here to talk more about this one is the philosopher Rupert Spira. Rupert Spira provides a profound exploration of non-dualism, addressing fundamental questions about our true nature and the essence of existence. Beginning with the inquiry “Who Are You, Really?” Spira guides us through a journey that challenges our habitual thoughts and beliefs, encouraging a deeper connection to our being. He delves into our inherent longing for happiness and the qualities of awareness that shape our experience. As he explains how the universe separates itself to know itself, he highlights the implications for morality and our relationships, viewing them as containers for growth and understanding. Spira also discusses the transformative journey of enlightenment, the different types of meditation, and the potential pitfalls of spiritual ego. This exploration not only sheds light on the nature of thoughts but also offers practical guidance to embody your true self, making it a must-watch for anyone seeking deeper understanding and fulfillment in life. At the age of seventeen he learnt to meditate, and began a twenty-year period of study and practice in the classical Advaita Vedanta tradition under the guidance of Dr. Francis Roles and Shantananda Saraswati, the Shankaracharya of the north of India. During this time he immersed himself in the teachings of P. D. Ouspensky, Krishnamurti, Rumi, Ramana Maharshi, Nisargadatta and Robert Adams, until he met his teacher, Francis Lucille, in 1997. Francis introduced Rupert to the Direct Path teachings of Atmananda Krishna Menon, the Tantric tradition of Kashmir Shaivism (which he had received from his teacher, Jean Klein), and, more importantly, directly indicated to him the true nature of experience. Rupert lives in the UK and holds regular meetings and retreats in Europe and the USA. Trechos retirados do livro “Transparent Body, Luminous World”, de Rupert Spira. Nesta metáfora, o espaço é puro conhecimento, o ar é silêncio e a névoa é a respiração. Michael Wenger is a Hoffman teacher and past Director of Hoffman International. In this conversation, he shares stories of the early days when the Hoffman Process was first introduced in European countries. This is a delightful conversation about the Hoffman Process's early days, how the Process spread internationally, and about Michael and his spiritual journey.** Michael first learned about the Process in August '86 from his brother who participated in the first European Process. Michael then participated in the second European Process in early '87. Both of these were taught in Germany. Students of these first two Processes then opened Hoffman Institute centers in Germany, France, and Austria, helping to begin to spread the Process throughout Europe. Michael decided to become a Hoffman teacher himself. Fluent in four languages, he helped Bob Hoffman translate the teachings he experienced in English into the four languages he knew. Eventually, Michael helped establish the Hoffman Institute in Italy alongside his sister, Hoffman teacher, Lisa Wenger. Over the years. Michael taught the Hoffman Process within various cultural settings. He came to see the various ways that each culture approached the work differently. Michael shares how each culture approaches the work differently. As he says, the cultural differences become clear because the Process is the same no matter where it is taught. ** This episode mentions substance abuse and is marked explicit for language. Please use your discretion. We hope you enjoy this conversation with Michael and Drew. More about Michael Wenger: After an adventurous youth exploring many limits of lifestyles and consciousness, working as a DJ, Barman, and Actor, Michael met Bob Hoffman in 1987 and attended one of the first Hoffman Programs in Europe. Being fluent in four languages, Michael then followed Bob who was introducing Hoffman to many different countries, thus being able to move quickly through the training to become a Hoffman Process Teacher under the supervision of Bob. In 1990 he assisted his sister Lisa in introducing the Hoffman Institute in Italy and facilitating the Hoffman program for over thirty years. For eight years he also worked as one of the three executive directors of Hoffman Institute International. (Photo, L-R: Michael, Bob Hoffman, Lisa Wenger, Beatrice Wenger) For the past few years, apart from occasionally teaching the Hoffman Process, Michael has been dedicating his time to exploring non-dual awareness and meditation, facilitating retreats (www.camminoaperto.info) inspired by Pir Elias Amidon, Rupert Spira, Ramesh Balsekar, and many other mystical teachers. He lives in the hills above Lugano, Switzerland. Awakening Together Presents Being Aware of Awareness Guided Meditations
In this episode a quote from Rupert Spira is contemplated. "The awareness of Being does not go through perception. It is the direct experience of Being."
Stevie is a former professional rugby player and part of the golden generation at the Leeds Rhinos, one of the most successful teams in Super League history. Stevie became the youngest grand final winner ever, won 3 Grand Finals, 2 Challenge Cups and was named captain at just 26. Amongst the highs, Stevie endured 10 operations, several mental health struggles, and had to retire from a brain injury at the age of 27. Stevie launched Mantality in 2016, inspiring conversation around mental health for men. Mantality now offers counselling and life-coaching services and engages people through a stigma-breaking podcast. Throughout all of the winning and losing in life, Stevie believes that the truest form of resilience is to realise the potential of our true selves. Stevie put this to the test by leading culture meetings as a captain of the Rhinos team in rugby league, one of the toughest sports there is. Promoting authenticity formed championship-winning teams and formidable relationships. Stevie believes that authenticity is the only thing that aligns success with fulfilment, and we all crave it. Stevie shatters the stigma around expressing how we truly feel in an increasingly complicated world. He has realised that authenticity aligns success with personal fulfilment, revolutionises internal comms and is essential for us to connect. And this is why I'm excited to bring you this conversation with Stevie. I believe authenticity is lacking in many HP departments primarily because of reasons such as low psychological safety, the value of depth of knowledge over the ability to share knowledge and the hierarchical nature of sport that restricts true collaboration. Talking Points: How Stevie gained awareness of the importance of being truly authentic to form formidable relationships. Why engineering smallness is prevalent is performance sport How sport focuses on the technical elements (told who we are meant to be, no one buys into) Blaming, shaming, fearing culture of sport and how to change it Inner compass and leadership - Stevie's perspective on this What the catalyst was to turn Stevie's awareness within himself The power of feeling safe without removal of threat If you enjoy this episode please leave a review on iTunes or Spotify platforms, and by doing this you will actively help in spreading this content to the practitioners that need it. We all want to feel a sense of inner peace and happiness. The problem is we tend to equate happiness with things out there – like success, accumulation, approval etc. In reality, happiness is our deepest nature, and so typically people are looking in the wrong direction. My guest is Francis Lucille – a teacher of Advaita Vedanta or non-duality, whose most well known student is Rupert Spira, who is of course a previous guest on the show. This episode is deep – and we do challenge some widely held beliefs. For instance, the idea that we all have our own separate consciousiness. Yes, our thoughts, feelings and experiences ARE different. But there is no evidence that the consciousness that KNOWS our thoughts, feelings and experiences is not in fact the same consciousness. The implication of this possibility is profound, as we discuss in this episode. While Francis and I see eye to eye on many things, our view of the power of self-inquiry is different, as in my view it is the most powerful practice anyone can do to awaken. We do discuss that and much more besides – and if nothing else, this episode should open you to the possibility of seeing yourself, other people and reality at large very differently ** My book Champion Thinking: How To Find Success Without Losing Yourself draws on some of my favourite interviews over the last six years. In it, I seek to challenge our ideas about 'success', and where peace, joy and fulfilment are truly to be found. 'This book captures the magic of being in flow . . . In this episode a quote from Rupert Spira's book "The Transparency of Things" is contemplated. "Even if we do not realise it, when we experience an object - that is, when the object appears in Conciousness - it is Conciousness that is experiencing itself AS that apparent object. An object is one of Conciousness' modes of Self-knowing."
Pretend you're standing in front of a window with a clear view out at a mountainous forest. It's a gorgeous day. The colors are vibrant and crisp. Now, shift your attention to your reflection in the window. The view is still there, but now it's in the background, and your reflection is in the foreground. Even if there was a war outside your window, it would be no more difficult to become aware of your reflection... of your innate Peace, that's also present. No matter what's on view (and it is constantly changing!), don't lose sight of your Self. Don't forget Love. Don't make the view and its alternating, alluring beautiful and terrifying images more important than your awareness of Love. Truly, only Love is here. And you are That. Feel It. Be It. Notice that when you're caught in a thought train, you're not aware of Love. But when you become aware of Love, you're no longer caught. You see that you were never caught. "I don't mind what happens. This is the essence of inner freedom" - Jiddu KrishnamurtiAcceptance is being in alignment with the present moment. When we do mind what happens, we have judged the situation – 'this should not be happening' – and are now reacting to it from that perspective. We really only have two options when it comes to what is. We can either be aligned with it or against it. And we know which choice we've made by how we feel. If there is fear, anger, expectation, anxiety, doubt, or remorse – we are resisting what is.The amount of evidence and research that shows self-acceptance is positively correlated with subjective wellbeing and self-worth is vast. And yet, many people don't understand the 'how' of acceptance. Is it about speaking to ourselves positively, or saying affirmations? No. Acceptance is about letting go of resistance. When we stop rejecting parts of ourselves that we don't like, including uncomfortable thoughts and feelings, peace is free to emerge. But more than that, acceptance isn't something the mind can really do. True acceptance lies in the aware space before the mind. When we can recognise that acceptance is our nature, we can face our inner and outer experience from a position of strength, rather than weakness. Accept and respond, don't resist and react. In this episode we are hearing from the following people, with links to their full length episodes:Jonny Wilkinson: https://pod.fo/e/16ff5eNon-Dual philosopher Rupert Spira: https://pod.fo/e/16ff5cLucy Gossage: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p08p2mktChampion Thinking: How To Find Success Without Losing Yourself - is now on general release. Today's episode is a conversation, and I'm speaking with the renowned teacher Rupert Spira. Rupert has been a spiritual practitioner since the age of 15. He began with Advaita Vedānta, as well as Sufi teachings, but the pivotal turning point in his spiritual life was meeting Francis Lucille, who introduced him to the Direct Path teachings of Ātmānanda Krishna Menon and the teachings of Tantric Shaivism, which Francis had received from his teacher, Jean Klein. Rupert is the author of You Are the Happiness You Seek and many other short books. He lives in Oxford, where I was fortunate to meet with him face to face, although the conversation you'll hear today was recorded remotely. Rupert holds regular meetings in the UK, US and Italy, as well as online webinars and Retreats at Home. I personally find his long-form guided meditations to be amongst the most powerful and well-crafted guided meditations available anywhere, especially those in his audio download called Transparent Body, Luminous World, which is inspired (in part) by the Vijñāna-bhairava-tantra. (During the recording of this episode we experienced some audio issues. Kindly bear with us as we learn the art of podcasting. We've already made significant improvements for subsequent episodes.) Rev. Karen Worth was interviewed by Laura “Joy” Bedford. Karen's journey towards understanding began in 2006 while standing at her mailbox. As A Course in Miracles teaches, “The wish to see calls down the grace of God upon your eyes and brings the gift of light that makes sight possible” (25:6:3:1). It was at this moment that Grace intervened, and Karen came to a profound realization that her own mind could be her downfall if she didn't make a change. This marked the beginning of her path of surrendering to the truth. Her journey started by working with the subconscious mind through Centerpoint Holosync meditation. She then progressed to working with the conscious mind through Vipassana meditations, A Course in Miracles (ACIM), and eventually Self Inquiry. Alongside these practices, she sought guidance from various gurus and teachers. It was during this time that she met Regina at a local ACIM meeting, which led her to further explorations, including ACIM gatherings, the CMC Ministerial program Ministerial program, Awakening Together's MPP, Ramana Maharishi's teachings, Michael Langford's insights, and AHAM meditation and retreat center. In 2018, Karen dedicated several weeks to a Rupert Spira meditation on Existence. She was determined to grasp the essence of Rupert's teachings before moving forward. During a walk, she posed a profound question to her mind: “If I'm not the body, then what exists?” Everything came to a halt as her mind grappled with the question and eventually surrendered, realizing that it did not exist as a distinct identity. There was only existence. This revelation echoed the words of Moses, “I am that I AM.” As a community, our mission is to guide individuals toward self-reliance on their inner wisdom, and Rev. Karen Worth exemplifies the heart of this mission through her personal journey of aligning with her inner wisdom. She shared how her path evolved from being an “Awakening Together member with a seeker identity” to experiencing the shedding of various identities. The tension between science and religion is perhaps the greatest tension of our age. Is the world fundamentally made of atoms, quarks, and quantum fields? Or is the material world but a secondary realm, lesser in meaning to the kingdom of God? There are many iterations of this tension. But there are also bridge-builders; thinkers who want to bridge science and religion — or at the very least, science and spirituality. My guest today is one of them. Donald Hoffman is a vision scientist, who has come to the dramatic conclusion that space and time are not fundamental. They are, according to him, just parts and parcels of our perception. Therefore objects, molecules, and atoms are not fundamental. Consciousness is. We explored the scientific case for Hoffman's theory in episode 30. In this 2nd part, we explore its relationship with spirituality. What if Hoffman is right? Should we live our lives any differently? What is the meaning of life in a world without space or time? Do we find God behind Hoffman's mathematics? You can enjoy this conversation without listening to the previous one. "If your mind is active in the service of God then that's as good as it not being active."- Rupert Spira. Nikki sits down with spiritual leader and philosopher (and one of her living teachers) Rupert Spira, to discuss the role of devotion and prayer on the non-dual path. He speaks about the difference between the knowledge, 'I Am' and the experience, 'I Am,' and the highest Truth that there is only God's Presence shining in us, as our experience as our Self. He then leads a deep meditation into the 'I Am,' reminding us, "All that is necessary is to sound the Divine Name, I Am, once, silently, within oneself." If you've been trying to access the Love beyond the mind, this is an episode that you should listen to twice. Each word is Presence. His words flow from The Word. And the Word is Grace. "Breath is one of the most transparent, the most silent experiences there is. But our Beingness is even more silent, even more transparent, even more empty than the breath." "The shining of God's Presence in us as us is not really the shining of God's Presence in us because there is no 'us' apart from God's Presence in whom God's Presence might shine. There is only God's Presence shining in us as our experience as our Self." "The ultimate form of prayer is the awareness of being. It's the highest prayer, the ultimate devotion in which there is no person left, just God's infinite being aware of itself." "In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!" - Philippians 2:5-8 Rupert Spira's, 'The Heart of Prayer' on Amazon
Dr. Kyra O'Keeffe, PhD, is an educator and speaker who celebrates love, or the direct experience of our shared being. She then taught at Stanford, before leaving to pursue her own spiritual aims more fully. In 2019, she met Francis Lucille and Rupert Spira, who shared their understanding of the ancient wisdom of non-duality, which delivers the freedom, peace and happiness that lives eternally at the heart of our being. When you pray, notice that you're often directing that prayer outside of you. Direct it inward this time. Talk to that Love, talk to that Silence. And then retire from talking. And just listen. Just receive. Let yourself receive. You used to have such a hard time with that, but not anymore. Now you know you are worthy. You've always been. But you can feel It now. Even when the mind tries to play its tricks, even when that anxiety lies to you. Even when that fatigue tries to overwhelm you, tries to tell you to lay back down. To not get up and pray, to not get up and chant or meditate, to not practice. You're not fooled anymore. You're not the one you used to be anymore. You can hear Me saying, "You have Me. Give me your Heart. Give Me Space, give Me Stillness, and everything else will be added unto you." Hi everyone and welcome back to The Motherkind Podcast. I'm so happy you're here. This moment episode is a re-release with writer and spiritual teacher Rupert Spira. Rupert said something I can't stop thinking about since our recording, he said that: The most important thing we can do as parents is to model how we handle emotions and that that's way more powerful than anything we could ever teach or say. Detach yourself from what disturbs and distracts you, and be as pure as one who breathes in purity and emptiness. Those dreams are happening here, now. But Nothing is happening, truly. Where you see that body, where you see that space, you know, 'only God is (t)Here',or you know that, 'that is God appearing as body, as space, as time',that what you're seeing is more like the past, and so there's no reason to react,to get angry,to get scared,to grab your sword,or square up.You're seeing the past, but you're feeling the future. You're seeing what you don't want, but you're feeling what you do want. You're feeling GoOD while you're looking at the problem, while you're looking at the evil, knowing that there is no evil, only an absence of the awareness of God,just as there is no darkness,in Him,as You, there is only Light. There is only Love. So don't go looking for signs. Keep feeling for Love and the signs will appear to follow. "God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all." - John 1:5I Love you, Niknikki@curlynikki.com Don't see from a point of view; be present simultaneously in the entire field of seeing."-Rupert Spira "Let your light shine so brightly that others can see their way out of the dark."-Unknown "When a bad or gloomy thought, fear or temptation threatens to afflict you, don't fight it to try and get rid of it. Open your arms to Christ's love and he will embrace you, then it will vanish by itself."- Saint Porpbyrios"Keep company with GODQuiet down before GOD, be prayerfúl before God.Wait passionately for GOD don't leave the path."-7 Psalm 37:47,34 (MSG) via @MonkinDocs"God has called us to sainthood, to perfection, and to a share in His life. God is not cruel. He would not call us to something we could not achieve. And God cannot lie. He Himself is the ground of all truth. Our God is all-powerful ... With such a God, even impossible dreams become attainable hopes. For He Himself has attained them for us."-Scotthahn via IG "When you choose peace it comes with a lot of goodbyes."-@isinisterr via IG "The more you feel the grace and feel thankful, the more grace becomes available to you."-OshoSupport the show
You're going to look back and appreciate these days. These apparent 'slow' or 'no momentum' days. So relax into that Gratitude, now. Relax back into Love, now. Notice that when you're caught in a thought train, you're not aware of Love. But when you become aware of Love, you're no longer caught. You see that you were never caught. You were never in the train...you were watching it. Watching this life unfold. Watching 'the more' unfold from Here,(w)here you're Reigning, and Resting. I Love you, Niknikki@curlynikki.com
