On Saturday, October 9th, 1965, 14-year-old Elsie Frost went sailing with some of her fellow classmates from her school's sailing class. The last time she was seen alive, she was walking towards her home. But, Elsie never made it home, and her body was later found by a man walking his children and dog in Wakefield, England. Join Mike and Gibby as they discuss the murder of Elsie Frost. Investigators believe that she was attacked after she entered a railway tunnel on foot. Her murder shocked the community, and Scotland Yard sent detectives to assist with solving the case. The manhunt was huge, and as many as 12,000 people were questioned about their whereabouts on that day. Police finally zeroed in on a man named Ian Bernard Spencer. But was he Elsie's killer? And if he wasn't, did the time that police spent on Spencer cause them to discount Peter Pickering, who was dubbed by the press as the Beast of Wombwell? It was a Saturday afternoon in October 1965 and 14 year old Elsie Frost spent it as she had many others before; sailing on Horbury Lagoon in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. At around four o'clock in the afternoon she moored the boat and said goodbye to her instructor to make her way home on foot. The teenager hadn't gone far when she was attacked and murdered in a tunnel that passed under a railway line. For decades the case lay dormant but Elsie's siblings never gave up hope and over fifty years later the case was re-investigated and a likely suspect came to the fore.
