Hey there! It's Michael here — and welcome back to another Happy English, Friday Phrasal Verb. Every Friday, I'll be here with a quick, one-point English lesson to help you learn one new phrasal verb and sound more natural when you speak.Last week we looked at toy with, which means to consider something not so seriously. Today's phrasal verb is the opposite of that: mull over. When you mull something over, it means you think about it carefully before making a decision. You're not rushing. You're taking your time to consider the options. Like, my buddy David got a job offer in another city. He said he needs to mull it over before he gives them his answer. Last week, Emily was thinking about buying a new car, but she told me she wanted to mull it over for a few days first. And me? I've been mulling over the idea of starting a new project for my students — but I want to be sure it's the right time. By the way, notice the pronunciation: mull over...muh-lover. We link the L at the end of mull with over: muh-lover. I am really excited to bring you another great interview in our series of discussions with Bowen Teachers from around the world, today we bring you this really interesting discussion with College of Bowen Studies Introduction Course Tutor Annie Hall. Annie's story is unique in that she lives on a fairly small island off the coast of Scotland UK, the Isle of Mull. She moved there to support her father and raise her children and developed for herself a very successful massage business, doing a lot of care for the over 65's and getting a lot of referrals from the local GPs. She moved back down to England and became a care home manager and was delivering a lot of training on health and social care before moving back to Mull and training in Bowen in 2021 with CBS. Since then she has not only made a thriving business, but is passionate about bringing Bowen to the more remote parts of Scotland where there is little provision for the technique.Annie sees the Introduction courses as a great way to get the community ot help themselves and we talk a lot about how island life has changed over the last 30 years and how much more dependent on tourism they are. This means that many people, especially women, are depending on seasonal work, and Annie sees this as a chance to expand the employment opportunities as well as the health of the islanders. She has also been invited by local high schools to share Bowen with the students and will be working with the University of the Highlands and Islands to deliver the Introduction to Bowen courses. This is such a great story of the value of Bowen Technique in rural communities, we hope you all enjoy listening to this interview as much as Ben did in recoding it.If you want to learn more about Annie and her work, you can contact her via the CBS Tutors page https://www.collegeofbowenstudies.co.uk/about/the-trainers/If you would like to learn more about the work of the BTPA, your local practitioner, where to train in the UK and much more, then check out our website and socials at: https://www.bowentherapy.org.uk/https://www.facebook.com/BowenBTPAhttps://www.instagram.com/bowenbtpa/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/integral-health-with-ben-calder--3335603/support.

30 years after Mel Gibson's Braveheart cloaked Hollywood in fake tartan, Ellen E Jones and Mark Kermode take the high roads and the low roads to look for the real Scotland on screen.Ellen talks with Tayside journalist Kayleigh Donaldson about the trouble with Braveheart, why veteran Scottish director Bill Forsyth's hyper local comedy dramas Local Hero, Gregory's Girl, and That Sinking Feeling have such international appeal, and why movies such as Ben Sharrock's Limbo tell a different kind of story about Scotland.Comedian and writer Frankie Boyle tells Ellen why Gregory's Girl is one of Scotland's most beloved films, why Lynne Ramsay's New York City based thriller You Were Never Really Here starring Joaquin Phoenix as a violent mercenary feels so Scottish, and his reservations about Danny Boyle's Trainspotting.Mark reconnects with legendary Scottish actor and star of Succession Brian Cox who has returned to Scotland to make his directorial debut Glenrothan. They discuss Brigadoon, Braveheart (which starred Brian Cox), cultural neglect, and the Powell & Pressburger classic movie set on the Isle of Mull, I Know Where I'm Going.Producer: Freya Hellier A Prospect Street production for BBC Radio 4

Is being depressed a sign of kufr? Is my anxiety due to sinning? In this episode of Thinking Islam, we explore how Islamic approaches towards mental health challenge traditional stigmas and modern psychological frameworks with Dr Zoheir Esmail. From examining the concepts of qalb, nafs, and ruh to investigating whether depression could indicate spiritual disconnection, this conversation unpacks the complex relationship between faith, Eurocentric reason, and mental wellness. We delve into the history of Islamic approaches towards mental wellness, their developments, from early medieval scholars to contemporary applications in modern therapeutic practice. The conversation tackles the stigma surrounding mental health in Muslim communities, examining fears around hellfire and spiritual disconnection, whilst investigating the fascinating realm of occult sciences, jinn, and evil eye, questioning whether these should be taken seriously as therapeutic tools or understood as sophisticated placebo mechanisms that nonetheless offer genuine healing benefits. Dr Esmail reveals how Islamic psychology creates mental health wellbeing through understanding the human self as naturally anxious by creation, whilst offering spiritually integrated therapy that addresses religiosity and faith to achieve holistic healing that secular approaches often overlook. Dr Zoheir Ali Esmail is a Lecturer in Islamic Mysticism and Head of the Department of Mysticism and Spirituality. After qualifying as a chartered accountant, he pursued full-time studies in the seminaries of Syria and Qum for 12 years, earning a doctorate focusing on the philosophy and mysticism of Mullā Ṣadrā from the University of Exeter. His research spans mysticism, spiritual psychology, transcendental philosophy, and Quranic exegesis, bringing academic rigour and traditional Islamic scholarship to contemporary discussions on mental health and spirituality.
Where’s the inflation? With this week’s Consumer Price Index coming in softer than predicted (inflation at its lowest level since 2021, according to government data), a lot of people are wondering why tariffs haven’t pushed prices up. In the debut episode of Everybody’s Business from Bloomberg Businessweek, hosts Stacey Vanek Smith and Max Chafkin tackle President Donald Trump’s trade war, inflation and when the rubber will (if ever) hit the road. Consumer spending columnist Amanda Mull takes Stacey on a tariff tour through Target, explaining why import taxes have yet to show up in inflation data and how you’re likely to see them in the future. It turns out flatscreen TVs, pineapples and mascara will all manifest tariffs in different ways. Mull concludes tariffs could very well ruin Christmas. Then sports reporter Randall WIlliams joins to talk about why private equity has started buying up sports teams. It turns out teams are becoming more valuable as games dominate live television, attracting bigger audiences (and commanding higher ad rates). That’s got private equity sneaking into the game, pumping up prices and injecting billions of dollars into teams. Randall concludes that private equity won’t ruin sports (but Max and Stacey are skeptical). Finally, for the underrated story for the week, we look at the rising trend of rising sneaker soles. Shoe brands are creating ever puffier soles even as racing authorities try to put restrictions in place. Ultramarathoner Max realizes his beloved sport is in the crosshairs of controversy. In this annual St. Patrick's Day special, host Jordan Kunde-Wright of the Twin Cities Kettlebell Club once again reunites with David Keohan—affectionately known as “Indian Stones.” This yearly tradition marks a time to toast the holiday together while catching up on David's newest achievements. From launching his craft beer, Mullán, to filming a funded one-hour documentary for RTÉ, David continues to champion Ireland's rich heritage of stone lifting.Listeners will hear how David's passion for preserving Celtic culture has led him to discover more than 48 historic stones throughout the Irish countryside—some weighing upwards of 200 kilos. He shares humorous anecdotes about powerlifters struggling with the awkward heft of these behemoths, proving that raw barbell strength doesn't always translate to practical lifting. Meanwhile, Jordan swaps stories about hauling logs in his backyard, underscoring the primal satisfaction of moving “real world” weight.Amid all the laughter and celebration, David reveals his forthcoming trip to Boston, where he'll inaugurate a brand-new lifting stone at a cultural center and offer stone lifting workshops. He also discusses The Wind Under It, his upcoming book set to be published worldwide by Bloomsbury, and hints at a possible PhD focusing on these ancient stones. Whether you love strongman feats, enjoy a good pint, or simply want to revel in genuine Irish spirit, this annual conversation offers a fascinating glimpse into the ever-expanding world of Celtic stone lifting. In some ways, Elon Musk had a quiet week—if making news on a daily instead of hourly basis counts as quiet. This week on Elon, Inc., the panel— Max Chafkin, Dana Hull and Bloomberg Businessweek columnist Amanda Mull—discusses Mull’s latest story about the wrong turns Musk has taken with the Tesla brand. And while Tesla dealerships and Supercharger stations are increasingly the focus of anti-Musk ire, the panel ponders the future of SpaceX and Starlink, especially as the latter is seeing growth among its competitors.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Title: Fixing the Broken Pieces with Ian Morgan Cron Description: Everyone is an addict. Mr. Rogers…The Dali Lama… Michelle Obama! Mull that idea over for a minute and when you're done being outraged like we were, join us for this enthralling conversation with one of our favorite repeat guests on For the Love – author, psychotherapist, and Episcopal priest, Ian Morgan Cron. Today, we're talking to him about his new book, The Fix: How the Twelve Steps Offer a Surprising Path of Transformation for the Well-Adjusted, the Down-and-Out, and Everyone In Between. People pleasing, the need to be right, being a compulsive helper, workaholism, being a knowledge junkie, perfectionism, holding on to our past suffering – these are all forms of addiction. The simple truth is, we each resort to our own methods of dealing with the harder aspects of life. For some, that solution means turning to a substance to numb our pain, which is how we traditionally think of addiction. For others, there are behaviors we employ to manipulate what we are feeling. And that's where the rest of us fall into the sticky trap. Ian, who also hosts the wildly popular Typology podcast exploring the mystery of the human personality, teaches us how the Twelve Steps are a trusted tool for anyone seeking to move beyond self-help to a more profound sense of awakening. And, in a new segment called “To My Younger Self”, Jen and Amy share some deeply personal experiences that, for Amy, helped change her relationships and, for Jen, helped change how she viewed herself. Thought-provoking Quotes: “People don't have one addiction; people are poly-addicted. They're seething cauldrons of addiction.” – Ian Morgan Cron “All human beings have a natural and innate hunger for union with the divine. The problem is when we go in search of counterfeit experiences of the divine that lead to disappointment, disillusionment and disaster.” – Ian Morgan Cron “Most Twelve Steps meetings happen in church or synagogue basements, after hours. And I wondered, does anyone upstairs know about the miracles that are going on downstairs? And why can't we release what's happening down here so that people up there can take advantage of it?” – Ian Morgan Cron “When you can admit powerlessness, it's a relief that it's not on you anymore.” – Ian Morgan Cron “When you frame an addiction as a solution to a problem, albeit an inadequate one, what follows is compassion, not judgment or condemnation.” – Ian Morgan Cron Resources Mentioned in This Episode: Five Calls app – https://5calls.org/ I Poop on Fascists Sticker - https://bit.ly/4gWiFHx The Fix: How the Twelve Steps Offer a Surprising Path of Transformation for the Well-Adjusted, the Down-and-Out, and Everyone In Between by Ian Morgan Cron - https://amzn.to/3Xgx6PK The Fix Workbook: How the Twelve Steps Offer a Surprising Path of Transformation for the Well-Adjusted, the Down-and-Out, and Everyone in Between by Ian Morgan Cron - https://amzn.to/3DiTReV How to Mitigate Stress Based on Your Personality – FREE DOWNLOAD - https://typologyinstitute.com/stress The Typology Institute Enneagram Assessment by Ian Morgan Cron - https://typologyinstitute.com/assessment Typology Podcast - https://www.typologypodcast.com/ The Road Back to You: An Enneagram Journey to Self-Discovery by Ian Morgan Cron - https://amzn.to/3QCG1qI Guest's Links: Ian's website - https://ianmorgancron.com/ Ian's Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/ianmorgancron Ian's Twitter - https://x.com/ianmorgancron Ian's Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/IanMorganCron/ Ian's Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/@imcron Ian's Podcast - https://www.typologypodcast.com/ Connect with Jen! This episode of the ChangeMakers podcast, produced by CityCURRENT and powered by Higginbotham Insurance and Financial Services, features an insightful conversation with Kathy Mull, the Executive Director of The Cocoon, a comprehensive domestic and sexual violence agency located in Wood County, Ohio. Hosted by Jeremy C. Park, the episode delves into the critical issues of domestic and intimate partner relationship violence, highlighting the work of The Cocoon and its innovative programs like Champions of Change.Kathy Mull's Journey and Inspiration:Kathy Mull shares her background growing up in a small town in Ohio, which instilled in her the importance of community care but also exposed her to hidden struggles within families.Despite initial reservations about social work, influenced by her mother's psychology background and her own observations of unhealthy relationships among her peers in high school, Kathy was drawn to the profession as a way to support survivors of violence. She emphasizes that her understanding of social work evolved beyond child protective services to encompass a broad spectrum of support for individuals in need.Kathy defines a social worker as someone who walks alongside individuals during difficult times, opens doors, provides support in a safe space, and fosters community. She holds a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Toledo and a Master of Social Work from Eastern Michigan and has over 22 years of experience serving survivors.Kathy is one of a small number of individuals who completed the Advocacy Learning Center course through Praxis International, underscoring her specialized training and expertise in supporting survivors. The Cocoon: Providing Safety, Healing, and Justice:Established in 2005, The Cocoon provides shelter and advocacy services to survivors of various forms of violence, including domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, sex trafficking, stalking, and adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse.Located in Bowling Green, Ohio, The Cocoon serves Wood County, a largely rural area where resources for survivors were limited before its establishment. The impetus for The Cocoon's creation was heightened by four domestic violence homicides in the community, which underscored the need for local support. The Cocoon offers 24/7 support, 365 days a year, always at no cost to the survivor. The organization's mission is to provide safety, healing, and justice for survivors and all those affected by abuse, while also engaging in educational outreach.Kathy notes the significant increase in demand for services during the COVID-19 pandemic due to increased isolation and other factors, and highlights that the healing process for survivors is now often longer and more intensive. The Cocoon serves an average of 850 to 900 survivors a year locally.Champions of Change: Engaging the Workplace:Champions of Change is an innovative program developed by The Cocoon to partner with local businesses and organizations to support employees experiencing or at risk of domestic and sexual violence. The program aims to expand the safety net for survivors and prevent violence by creating safe workplaces and providing resources and education to employees.Recognizing that employees often confide in coworkers or supervisors before seeking formal help, the program equips workplaces to offer initial support and connect individuals with resources. The program also addresses the issue of survivors losing their jobs due to the impact of abuse on their work performance or abusers interfering at the workplace.Champions of Change provides businesses with workshops and resources to educate stakeholders and employees, fostering a corporate culture that does not tolerate violence.Kathy highlights the importance of a partnership approach, tailoring the program to the specific needs and culture of each organization. The program emphasizes proactive engagement rather than solely reacting to identified problems, sending a message that the company cares about its employees' well-being.A key aspect of the program involves training leadership and HR personnel first to equip them with the tools and language to support employees who disclose abuse.Kathy shares red flags that employers can be aware of, such as changes in work performance, increased absenteeism, implausible excuses, lateness, eagerness to leave work, changes in demeanor, and visible signs of physical abuse. The program provides employers with strategies for intervention and problem-solving to support affected employees while maintaining business productivity.Lessons Learned and the Impact of the Work:Kathy emphasizes that every organization is different, necessitating a tailored approach to partnership.Overcoming employer reluctance by framing the program as proactive support rather than an admission of problems is crucial. The transformative impact of the program on workplace culture and the lives of survivors has been significant, exemplified by the partnership with Principal Business Enterprises (PBE).Kathy's work is deeply rooted in her identity as a social worker, prioritizing people first in all aspects of her role as Executive Director. She underscores that nonprofit organizations are businesses with a social mission. The stories of survivors have profoundly impacted Kathy, reinforcing the importance of creating spaces where their experiences are valued and where they can find safety and healing. This work has provided Kathy with a voice to advocate for survivors in broader community conversations, connecting issues like economics and housing to the prevalence of gender-based violence. She believes that social change, achieved through collective effort and open conversations, is essential to eradicating violence.Call to Action and Getting Involved:Kathy encourages listeners to learn about and support their local domestic violence programs and Rape Crisis Centers. She highlights the importance of understanding where resources are lacking in communities. There are various ways to contribute to the cause, including financial donations, volunteering time and skills, and acting as a connector to link individuals with needed support.Being a safe person to listen and offering to connect individuals with resources is a vital form of support. The Cocoon's website, https://thecocoon.org, provides comprehensive information about their programs, ways to support them, and contact details.Their 24/7 hotline for accessing services or getting help is 419-373-1730, option 2.This podcast episode offers valuable insights into the pervasive issue of domestic and sexual violence and the critical role of community-based organizations like The Cocoon. Kathy Mull's personal journey and her leadership in developing innovative programs like Champions of Change demonstrate the power of collaboration in creating safer communities for survivors and preventing future violence.
