Having The Mind Of Christ by Jacques Jacobs
Christianity is not self-help behavior modification. Telling ourselves “do it, do it, do it” when we look at virtue that we don't really want, or “don't do it, don't do it, don't do it” when we look at sin we really do want, won't lead to anything good. It doesn't. It won't work. It's what Paul calls “will worship.” It is a spiritless gospel. It's precisely what Paul is attacking in Galatians when he says “how can you who started with the Spirit, now proceed in the flesh?” No. That's the first point—what Christianity is not. It is not trying harder on my own power to fight against the evil desires I crave. Fixing my behavior will only come about when I attend to what I actually want. And that leads me to my second point. What Christianity is about is a Spirit-directed change of what I truly want, so much so, that living like Christ, wanting the kingdom and nothing else, welcoming the fruit-of-the-spirit kind of life becomes second nature. What we need isn't a list of “do's” and “don'ts” so I can be like Christ. What we need is the mind of Christ. The sermon today is titled "Having The Mind Of Christ." The Scripture reading is from Philippians 2:1-5. Originally preached at the West Side Church of Christ (Searcy, AR) on July 24, 2022. THE BEGINNER’S APPROACH IN THE PLACE OF EFFECTIVE PRAYER. HAVING THE MIND OF CHRIST. PART 2 Friends, we have entered another decade of [restart] new beginnings in the prophetic advancement of God's redemptive vision for the earth and creation. Prayer plays a critical role in the formation of and restoration of the order of God for humanity, and we've been invited to share in this glorious journey. This message introduces us to the biblical, spiritual qualities requires in effective prayer. It gives us the spiritual and mental framework of approaching God. It takes trust, faith, and obedience to approach the Father and the things of the Spirit. Prayer as we have discovered is a spiritual philosophy, established within the framework of kingdom knowledge and experience. Implying that, we cannot engage in the ART of praying without the knowledge of the philosophy known as the will of God. The will of God comes through the knowledge of kingdom demand. The more we step into the realm of kingdom education, the better we and can effectively apply the mystery of God’s will in our prayer life. As we get introduced to the theology of the mind of Christ, we begin to develop what the will of God is and represent in the art of prayer and kingdom-based intercession. We will seek to once again examine what are the prerequisites in Christ-centered prayer as we explore what the mind of Christ is particularly in this season.

Scripture:Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ JesusPhilippians 2:3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.Transcript:And now, Admonition, brought to you by the Collierville Church of Christ. How do you think? How do you consider what you should and shouldn't do? Here's a good evaluation for you. Philippians chapter two verse five says: Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. Paul writes this to the Church at Philippi, and he says, you need to have the mind of Christ, but what's he talking about? What's the context? What does he mean? Look back at verse three: Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind, let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interest, but also for the interests of others, because Christ left Heaven to die for you. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. Think about others ahead of yourself. For more from the Collierville Church of Christ, visit Colliervillecoc.org.
