Week 1 | They Arrested God! (2015)This week, we're releasing the first of a series of sermons from Darrell that correspond with Lent and the Easter season. This series was delivered by Darrell in 2015 at First Baptist Church in Vancouver and is called “The Theatre of Glory.”Drawing on this phrase from John Calvin, Darrell invites us to see the final hours of Jesus' life not merely as suffering, but as the decisive revelation of God's glory, the weighty essence of who God truly is. Throughout the series, Darrell will explore John 18-19, lingering in the arrest, trial, and crucifixion to help us behold what John wants us to see: that the cross is not tragedy spiraling out of control, but glory fully and freely revealed. In this first message, centred on John 18:1–12, we enter the garden where Jesus steps forward and declares, “I AM.” The soldiers fall back, and we glimpse the stunning mystery at the heart of the gospel: it is the great I AM who is being arrested.__Regent CollegeRegent College Summer Programs—Give to the Ministry of Darrell JohnsonDarrell's BooksSubscribe to Darrell's Mailing ListWebsite | darrelljohnson.caYouTube | youtube.com/darrelljohnson

Why do you exist? Why did God save you? Why did God save you from your sin? Why are you a part of the faith family at First Baptist Church? Why are you here? In our message today, the Apostle Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 5 that we have been reconciled to reconcile. We have a purpose in this life, and it is to proclaim the life-transforming gospel of the Lord Jesus from our neighborhoods to the nations. We are God's Plan A to take the good news that God wants to reconcile people to Himself through His Son. No matter who you are or what you've done, God has a plan for your life. And that plan is to know Him, and ultimately to make Him known. Join with us today as we see that we are reconciled to reconcile. --- Have you ever felt powerless? I have, and it's a horrible feeling. I'm used to being able typically to figure out the challenges that come my way. Sometimes, though, nothing seems to work. As we walk together through 2 Corinthians, we're going to see what true power really looks like. We're going to see in various ways that God's power is made perfect in our weakness, and we're going to see why Paul would say “when I am weak, then I am strong.” Sermon Notes: http://bible.com/events/49563122 Submit a Question: bit.ly/BeyondSundayQuestions

In this episode with all five pastors we gather around the table for a wide-ranging, honest, and often hilarious conversation that moves from Super Bowl reactions and Winter Olympics highlights to the far more important question: Who is Jesus, really?Along the way, the guys chase a few classic rabbit trails—awkward mic moments, Seahawk debates, Olympic sports that defy logic, and church event cancellations—but eventually land on a thoughtful and timely discussion about cults, world religions, and the truth claims of biblical Christianity.A significant portion of the conversation centers on Jehovah's Witness beliefs, the reliability of Bible translations, and why the deity of Christ is not a side issue, but the foundation of the Christian faith. The pastors reflect on Sunday's sermon, explore how subtle changes in Scripture can lead to massive theological shifts, and offer practical guidance on how to engage Jehovah's Witnesses (and others) with grace, truth, and thoughtful questions rather than arguments. The episode closes with a pastoral reflection on why the resurrection matters, what it means if Jesus truly is God, and how that reality transforms faith from religion into relationship—and authority into hope.As always, expect laughter, honesty, and gospel-centered conversation as we chase the rabbit together.New episodes drop every Tuesday.Recorded at First Baptist Church of the Islands, Savannah, GA

Luke 14 - Ricky Torres - Sunday Evening, February 1, 2026 by First Baptist Church of Hammond
Southern Baptists have had a longstanding commitment to advocating for the protection of preborn lives and opposing abortion in every form. This is rooted in the biblical revelation that all people are created in God's image and have inherent value. During a recent pro-life advocacy trip to Washington, D.C., Southern Baptist college students, leaders, and pastors joined us for the 2026 March for Life and advocated alongside us on Capitol Hill. On this episode, you'll hear from two individuals involved in that trip, Dr. Dub Oliver, president of Union University, and Jason Marlin, lead pastor of First Baptist Church in Kirksville, Missouri, and an ERLC trustee. Both men reflect on their recent experience at the 53rd annual March for Life and share about the importance of educating and equipping the next generation to engage faithfully on pro-life issues. What do snowstorms, canceled services, and accidental “rapture livestreams” have to do with spiritual rest? Quite a bit, actually. In this episode of Chasing the Rabbit, the pastors of First Baptist Church of the Islands reflect on an unexpected snowy weekend in Savannah and let the conversation drift (as it always does) into something deeper: the urgent need for rest, rhythms, and refueling—especially for those in ministry. As the team looks ahead to a local ministry conference, they talk candidly about burnout, busyness, Sabbath principles, and the difference between physical rest and soul rest. Along the way, they wrestle with questions many leaders feel but don't always voice:How do you know when your tank is running empty? Why does busyness feel like success in our culture? What does biblical rest actually look like under the New Covenant? And how do we create healthy rhythms that sustain us for the long haul? The conversation is grounded in Scripture and shaped by insights from several influential books, including:Leading On Empty by Wayne CordeiroThe Wisdom Pyramid by Brett McCrackenThe Common Rule by Justin Whitmel EarleyWhether you're a pastor, ministry leader, volunteer, or just someone feeling stretched thin, this episode is an encouraging reminder that rest is not weakness—it's wisdom. God doesn't just command rest; He invites us into it.So slow down, take a breath, and chase this rabbit with us.
