Sir Cliff Richard has won an initial £210,000 in damages from the BBC after a judge ruled that coverage of a police raid on his home in 2014 was a "very serious invasion" of his privacy. The BBC says that "in retrospect, there are things we would have done differently" but claim the case marks a "significant shift" against press freedom. JB Terry-Smith was born and raised right outside of Washington in Montgomery County Maryland. When he was a little boy Terry-Smith can remember writing out stories and articles in elementary school. Story-telling, writing, current events were his favorite subjects. Most recently Terry-Smith had decided that he would write a children’s book about HIV, the book is called, “I have a Secret”. Terry-Smith decided that he would write such a book since one of his many causes is Pediatric AIDS and he himself was diagnosed with HIV in 2005. In the future he plans on writing more books about many subjects as well. There is nothing harder for a child then keeping a secret. In this heart warming tale, a young boy is forced to keep a secret from his friends and schoolmates. The need to tell someone, anyone becomes so great that he almost looses his best friend. Justin B. Smith may be one of the most public African Americans living with HIV: He has his own blog and Web site, and he's even on YouTube. And who can blame him? Only 29, he already has an incredible story to tell. Justin admits he used to live "a very dangerous life," but since his diagnosis three years ago, the former heavy drinker and drug user has turned his life around. In this moving, one-on-one interview, Justin walks us through some of the key moments in his life, including the day in 2006 when he was diagnosed with HIV, his experiences dealing with stigma and ignorance, and his stint in the military as an openly gay man.
Justin B. Smith, 29, has been an HIV and Gay Civil Rights activist in the Washington DC area for about 10 years. An Air Force veteran, he was honorably discharged with awards and decorations in 2003.He has served and volunteered in several organizations, including the HRC, Whitman Walker Clinic and the National Black Justice Coalition. Justin writes for many publications including GBMNews.com, Baltimore Gay Life,POZIAM and Swerve Magazine. He resides with his partner of 3 years, Dr. Philip Terry, to whom he is recently engaged, in Laurel, MD. Justin created ‘Justin’s HIV Journal’ to advocate for education, prevention and awareness when it comes to HIVIn his journal he tells people about the trials and tribulations when it comes to living with HIV/AIDS.
