J Darrin Gross  I'd like to ask you, Mark Willis, what is the BIGGEST RISK?   Mark Willis Well, I was thinking about this some the biggest risk is, is there's so many layers to your great question, and with enough time and enough adult beverages, you might get even deeper than this. But here's a good start anyway, there's a quote by Terry Smith. He says there are only two types of people when it comes to market timing, people who cannot do it and people who have not yet realized that they cannot do it. So what do I mean by that? What does he mean by that? Well, what I mean by what, I guess I'm taking away from that, is we are our biggest risk, the arrogance that comes with humanity's arrival syndrome. And this is something Nelson Nash came and showed me. He said the biggest threat to human survival is the arrival syndrome, and that is the idea that we have made it, that we have found the pinnacle of existence, that we know it all, that we know what the market is going to do tomorrow, or that we know how to buy our next car that, or we know how to invest In real estate, or we already have figured out that whole life insurance is blank, whatever bias we have right to use today's examples. But this could expand itself to everything. We know what the future government's going to look like, or where taxes are headed, or you know what our kids are going to do when they graduate college. We don't know nothing is, I think, the refrain of avoiding the arrival syndrome. So to me, that is the biggest risk.

Terry Smith, manager of the nearly $30 billion Fundsmith Equity Fund, decided to avoid investing in Nvidia stock. He doubts consumer willingness to pay for artificial intelligence technology, noting a survey where 84% of over 22,000 PC users would not invest extra in AI-enhanced hardware. Despite popular AI subscriptions like ChatGPT generating significant revenue, Smith's stance resulted in his fund trailing the MSCI World Index in returns for the year. He prioritizes predictability in investments and has chosen to invest in other tech companies such as Apple, Meta, and Microsoft. Nvidia currently dominates the AI chip market, holding a significant share, and is part of a group of major technology stocks known as the "Magnificent Seven," which contribute over 40% of its revenue.Learn more on this news visit us at: https://greyjournal.net/ Hosted on Acast. This is Part 2 of the 100th Episode of Music Talks, which is also the final episode of Music Talks. Five years and 100 episodes felt to me like a good time to bring things to a close. It has been a fantastic, joyful, fulfilling and most importantly FUN experience doing this Podcast, and it is something I will always treasure. To mark this occasion, I thought it was time for me to appear as a guest on my own show and I'm delighted to say that my very first guest, Steve Clayton, agreed to come back and be the host of this episode. Thank you Steve! It will be no surprise to anyone that I had quite a lot to say hence splitting the episode into two parts, both of which are a vinyl friendly 45 ish minutes in length! Music Talks was originally conceived as a 'music nerd' Podcast but over time it morphed into something different with many guests not just telling their life story but also being incredibly open and honest about the ups and downs they had faced. I felt I had to honour that in these episodes and do the same. In musical terms my episode contains major and minor chords but of course music (and life) is only interesting when there are both!. I hope you enjoy the stories and that even for my oldest friends there might be a new story or two in there. As far as the music choices go these were my song choices for Part 2. 90's -  Don't Look Back In Anger *-           Oasis 00's -  First Day of My Life             -           Bright Eyes10's -  Long Walk Home                  -           Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band20's -  The Only Road                      -           Elbow   * The episode was recorded just BEFORE Oasis announced their reunion tour! I say my thank you' s at the end of the episode but a heartfelt thanks to all my guests and everyone who ever listened, you gave me SO much for which I will always be grateful! To close out Music Talks completely there will be a couple of compilation episodes in October & November and then the annual ' Favourite Albums of the Year' with Steven Routledge in December. I hope you will be able to listen to those episodes but in the meantime I hope you enjoy this one :-) If you would like to be on the show then please contact me at musictalkspod@outlook.com Please follow and like Music Talks on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/musictalkspod . Find out on this week's PlayingFTSE Show! There's lots to talk about on this week's show. Steve and Steve have had a good week in the markets and are dying to talk about it. It's no secret that the London Stock Exchange has been struggling to attract listings lately with the likes of Arm, TUI, and Flutter looking elsewhere. But the FCA has some ideas for how to change this. A raft of measures have been announced including removing market cap restrictions and relaxing profitability requirements, but will any of them work? Steve and Steve have some ideas. Earnings season in the US has kicked off and – as usual – Steve W has been looking at the banking sector. Wells Fargo, Citigroup, and J.P. Morgan have all reported earnings with more to come. Despite beats almost across the board, the stocks are all down. But is a rise in investment banking revenue something for shareholders to get excited about over the next few months and years? Terry Smith has been catching investors up on the progress of Fundsmith's results. The UK's Warren Buffett has been underperforming the S&P 500 – but he has a good reason. Not owning Nvidia has led a lot of investors to miss out on some spectacular returns. But Steve D is doubtful that this is the only reason for the fund's underperformance over the last year. A.J. Barr is a stock we haven't spoken about on the podcast before – at least, not in any depth. But Steve W thinks it might be an interesting opportunity at the moment. As the company embarks on its ‘margin rebuild' programme after a 2022 acquisition, earnings are set to rise. Could that – plus some multiple expansion – generate a 30% return by the end of 2026? Along with Terry Smith, a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) education specialist, in 2012 Tora co-founded the Pollinator Posse, an Oakland, CA-based organization developing and encouraging pollinator-friendly landscaping and fostering appreciation for local ecosystems through outreach, education, community science, and habitat creation. With eco-friendly landscape techniques at the heart of the work, they teach respect for the creatures which keep their place — and the world — blooming. Tora and the Pollinator Posse envision a day when life-enhancing, thought-inspiring green spaces will grace every corner of world. Tora joins Cultivating Place this week to share her garden-life, Pollinator Posse, journey story. Join us! Cultivating Place now has a donate button! Our guest today has been referred to as "the English Warren Buffett" for his style and success in investing. His book, published in 1992, Accounting for Growth, and its ensuing controversy helped propel it to the top of the bestsellers chart, displacing Stephen Hawking's 'A Brief History of Time' from the No.1 spot.  He's been head of research, CEO of a public company, a former top banks analyst (who won't own a bank in his fund), and is now highly respected Founder and CIO at the global equity fund manager, Fundsmith. Terry details his progress through finance, including how he examines inconsistencies and checks cash flows. He explains why he believes you cannot be successful in investing unless you break out from the crowd. He then describes the genesis of Fundsmith, its mission “to run the best fund ever; by which we mean the one with the highest return over the long term adjusted for risk.”   He then details what he looks for in the companies he selects, red lines, distrusting management gloss and why he believes that equities beat bonds over the long term.
