G.B. Smith and his stunning photobook “Pathways” (G Editions, Nov. 7, 2023). The book features several of Smith's recent multi-award winning images, and the curation reflects the simplicity and uncluttered form of his distinctive black and white style. Informed by his experience with color blindness, Smith's work encourages the viewer to examine a world that exists beyond color. Among Smith's many accolades are three consecutive Gold Medals in the architecture, fine art and nature categories at the Prix de la Photographie awards in Paris. Believing that art should make a positive impact, Smith will be donating proceeds from the sales of “Pathways” to the Breast Cancer Alliance. “I have long admired G.B. Smith's singular ability to focus and to strip away distractions to help others see the most important elements….he studies his subjects with care and thinks deeply about all that he wants us to see.” –Lawton W. Fitt, former head of The Royal Academy of Arts About G.B. Smith Born in the industrial heartland of England, G.B. Smith began his photographic journey almost fifty years ago as a teenager in apprenticeship of traditional film techniques both in the darkroom and with large plate cameras. The simplicity and deliberateness of his images today reflect the mindfulness of this traditional approach, manifested in modern digital technology. Having grown up with extreme color blindness, Smith strips away visual distractions to focus on the structures and patterns as he sees them. His images bring solace to a psyche constantly overwhelmed by the overstimulation of color, and encourage us to look beyond color. Given his industrial heritage, many of his studies gravitate toward decaying man-made structures and their interaction with the regenerative power of nature. A truly global citizen, having lived on multiple continents and worked extensively in six, Smith now resides in Maryland. To be in his presence was to be in the presence of true humility, gentle compassion, and prophetic courage. There is no shortage of stories about this man who touched, inspired and transformed the lives of so many. Unfortunately, we can't tell them all. But, in this episode, host Blake Smith, along with special guests Julie Smith (daughter) and Teppy Dimmitt (granddaughter), share personal stories and the stories submitted by members from across the church. These stories provide a glimpse into the ways in which “just grampa” made a difference in the church and in the world. We at Project Zion Podcast hope that Wally B's legacy will live on in the hearts and lives of those he encountered... as well as those who get to know him through your stories. Project Zion is pleased to repost this interview that Josh and Brittany had with President-Emeritus Wallace B. Smith as part of our series to honor the life and ministry of “Wally B.” Listen to Wally's story of going into medicine, serving in the military in aviation medicine under the doctor draft law, and taking up his own practice in medicine. Listen as he relates his dad's presidency up to the time of him being called as president-designate when he prepared by taking courses with St. Paul's seminary. The emphasis he brought to the church in the eighties was having the “faith to grow.” Listen to what led up to the ordination of women, the fallout that brought, building the temple, the revelatory process for him, and the decision to name a successor outside of the Smith family. Also, listen to hear his thoughts on the direction the church has taken since he left office. So, I would say it's the quality of what we provide that's really critical. The quality of our assessment skills, looking at how the foot hits the floor, looking at the body chain, looking at, what is slowing this down?” 26:23 “so to Leo, to answer your question, what a new grad can do, what an experienced therapist can do. 3 Reasons You Should Pray Out Loud | Pastor Eric B. Smith | March 12th, 2023
Join me as I explore how to take your vision from the paper to the public. This week we will talk about how commitment plays a role.
B. Smith (1949-2020) built a food and lifestyle empire. She launched restaurants, wrote cookbooks, had a line of household products, and even hosted a talk show. Food has been a unifier for millennia, not just gathering people together to share a meal, but acting as a warm introduction to new histories and traditions. This February on Womanica, we're celebrating Tastemakers - the Black chefs, cooks, and food historians who created new foodways and preserved important culinary stories of the past. The impact of chefs like Pig Foot Mary, Mama Dip, and Georgia Gilmore stretch far beyond the culinary scene - uplifting their local communities and inspiring those who came after them. History classes can get a bad rap, and sometimes for good reason. When we were students, we couldn't help wondering... where were all the ladies at? Why were so many incredible stories missing from the typical curriculum? Enter, Womanica. On this Wonder Media Network podcast we explore the lives of inspiring women in history you may not know about, but definitely should.Every weekday, listeners explore the trials, tragedies, and triumphs of groundbreaking women throughout history who have dramatically shaped the world around us. In each 5 minute episode, we'll dive into the story behind one woman listeners may or may not know–but definitely should. These diverse women from across space and time are grouped into easily accessible and engaging monthly themes like Educators, Villains, Indigenous Storytellers, Activists, and many more. Womanica is hosted by WMN co-founder and award-winning journalist Jenny Kaplan. The bite-sized episodes pack painstakingly researched content into fun, entertaining, and addictive daily adventures. Womanica was created by Liz Kaplan and Jenny Kaplan, executive produced by Jenny Kaplan, and produced by Liz Smith, Grace Lynch, Maddy Foley, Brittany Martinez, Edie Allard, Lindsey Kratochwill, Adesuwa Agbonile, Carmen Borca-Carrillo, Taylor Williamson, Ale Tejeda, Sara Schleede, Abbey Delk, and Alex Jhamb Burns. The Berean Call Bible Conference Warren B Smith “Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.” [Psalm 39:5]Our Spiritual Adversary would have everyone believe that we are all “one” because God is “in” everyone and everything. Using every promotional means possible—including a creative and ingenious perversion of quantum physics—he is attempting to convince the world and the church that while Jesus was Christ, so is everyone.Be Still and Know That You are Not God!—God is Not “in” Everyone and Everything Warren B. Smith is a former social worker who directed several homeless programs in Northern California and served as a hospice social worker in New Orleans and on the California coast. Prior to coming to Christ, Warren was involved in the New Age movement. That experience has prompted him to write extensively on the subject of spiritual deception in the church. His books include Deceived on Purpose, False Christ Coming - Does Anybody Care?, The Light That Was Dark, A "Wonderful" Deception, and "Another Jesus" Calling. (1 Corinthians 2:2)Yet Paul also said we should not be “ignorant” of Satan's “devices” (2 Corinthians 2:11).Paul further stated it is “a shame” we have to talk about “the unfruitful works of darkness,” but we must “reprove” them—expose them—by bringing them into the “light”:And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. (Ephesians 5:11-13)At the same time, Paul reminds us that there is a “simplicity” in Christ:But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. We have a chat with American actor Riley B. Smith, who you may know playing Ralph (Paige's son) in the TV show Scorpion. Riley's father is also famous guitarist Josh Smith, his mother is also a writer and producer and his sister is a well-known photographer, so we found out what it was like growing up in such a creative family.
