Kortney Ryan Ziegler is an American entrepreneur, filmmaker, visual artist, blogger, writer, and scholar based in Oakland, California. His artistic and academic work focuses on queer/trans issues, body image, racialized sexualities, gender, performance and black queer theory. He is the creator of the blog blac (k) ademic, and the film STILL BLACK: a Portrait of Black Transmen. In 2017, Ziegler and Tiffany Mikell co-founded Appolition.us in order to help incarcerated Black people return to their families by allowing users to round up purchases to the nearest dollar and donate the funds to bail funding efforts. The app was supported through crowdfunding after a tweet from Ziegler got attention in July 2017. Today you can find Kortney trading bitcoin, lifting weights and sharing his thoughts on twitter. He is currently crowdfunding $100,000 for Black Trans Elders. Please support his mission. “An app that converts your daily change into bail money to free black people.” That's what Kortney Ryan Ziegler, a social engineer with a PhD in African-American studies, tweeted in July. https://twitter.com/fakerapper/status/889197985678073856The response was instantaneous—and overwhelming. Nearly 200 people replied with offers to help. That was the start of Appolition, which converts users' spare change into bail money.
