Republicans in the Legislature filed more than 80 bills that would affect LGBTQ Texans, including many focused on public schools that would impact students, teachers and staff. Sex education and gender identity are a particular focus. In other news, the parents of the child who died in Texas' measles outbreak told an anti-vaccine advocacy group that they still wouldn't recommend the vaccine for other families; when Cindy Clemishire publicly alleged last year that Robert Morris sexually abused her as a child, legal experts said they doubted the former Gateway Church senior pastor would face any criminal charges. That doubt was rooted in statute of limitations laws, which typically determine how long an alleged victim of child sexual abuse can wait before initiating legal action against the person who allegedly abused them; and summer is not too far away, and in North Texas that might mean a trip to Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington. The Living Waters Podcast

The LGBTQ community has changed from something that was rarely seen to now something that is seen almost daily. Ray, E.Z., Mark, and Oscar jump into this topic by encouraging believers to not be scared to address sensitive topics with their kids. Be proactive. Kids are exposed to these issues as early as kindergarten, so it's crucial to teach them before the world does. Tailor the conversation to their age, and frame it in light of scripture. Ray recalls when these topics weren't an issue, sharing an experience of someone confused about their identity finding salvation. He emphasizes that repentance means turning over a new leaf.Teaching kids about these sensitive matters while fostering compassion is vital. Silence allows the world's lies to take root, leading kids to believe sexuality is shameful or that God doesn't care about their LGBTQ friends. The guys encourage Christians to avoid an us vs. them mentality, which can imply shame. All non-Christians are trapped in ideologies that promise freedom but deliver bondage, and LGBTQ neighbors need salvation too. The goal is to remind kids of the hope of the gospel and that we are all image bearers of God.The issue of whether or not to send your children to public school or homeschool comes down to conviction. Your children may have a strong relationship with the Lord if they go to public school, but E.Z. suggests evaluating whether they can withstand worldly pressures. Radical discipleship is necessary in any case, including daily devotions and biblically sound content. The guys suggest using any encounters with unbiblical ideas as teaching moments without reacting in shock, instead gently probing your children's hearts. In this conversation, the guys address how Christian kids should be taught to interact with LGBTQ individuals. Teach your kids about God's existence and accountability, instilling a healthy fear of the Lord. Emphasize that God is reconciling the world to Himself through grace. Remind kids they are created in the image of God, and His design leads to joy. Train kids to speak the truth in love. Focus on God's commandments rather than individual sins. For non-Christians who wonder why believers are against someone living their life the way they want to, know that God isn't withholding joy but offering greater joy beyond mere desires. All people were designed with purpose, meaning, and value. Don't settle for less when God offers fullness of life in Christ. Parents must lead these conversations with their children, helping them see both the ugliness of sin and the beauty of God's design.Send us a text Thanks for listening! Leading a Megachurch Through LGBTQ and Other Issues In today's episode we will learn from Clayton Hentzel, the lead preacher who recently led a church through complex and controversial issues, particularly LGBTQ topics, by emphasizing the importance of clarity, thorough preparation, and courageous communication of biblical truth.  In this episode, a senior pastor from The Crossing shares his experiences and strategies for addressing controversial topics like LGBTQ issues, abortion, and politics in a megachurch setting. With over two decades at the church and two years as senior pastor, he discusses the importance of preaching on contentious subjects, ensuring church alignment, and providing clear guidance to congregation members. He highlights the need for clarity, preparation, and courage when addressing sensitive subjects from the pulpit, emphasizing that The Crossing is committed to sharing gospel truth in every area of life. Clayton kicks off the discussion with a 30-minute presentation followed by a Q&A session, ensuring questions are handled privately to protect those he pastors. He talks about his background and the church's annual practice of tackling difficult topics, stressing that truth should never be sacrificed for growth. Past sermons have covered mental health and abortion, with future ones planned on politics and giving. This year, they completed a five-week series titled "Messy," which addressed various provocative issues, including abortion, reinforcing the idea that no subject should be off-limits in church. He explains that addressing these issues is crucial because the congregation is already exposed to conflicting worldviews through media and misleading theological arguments. Clayton insists the church must provide biblically sound counter-arguments to protect their congregation's understanding and faith. Clayton outlines his preparation process for these sermon series, detailing how he and his church leadership ensure they are theologically aligned. This includes extensive research, historical context, and understanding cultural arguments, with comprehensive preparation allowing the entire church staff to be on the same page. He offers practical tips for delivering difficult messages, such as maintaining a "no emails and no applause" policy during the series, using timestamps in sermons for context, and prioritizing teaching over preaching to build a solid foundation. Clarity is crucial, and the church's stances should be clear and unambiguous to avoid multiple interpretations. Finally, Clayton emphasizes the importance of setting clear expectations for congregants and preparing them for how the church will address future topics, such as politics, with definitive positions. They don't shy away from it and have been voting at a higher rate than millennials. Not only do they want to talk about it more, but they’re also more engaged in the entire process.” – Paul Worcester “It's not that the church has gotten more political; politics have gotten more theological and spiritual. We could almost get away with saying the wrong thing theologically or biblically before we could get away with what someone else deems wrong politically.” – Dean Inserra “We make a big mistake when we try to get our churches to think about politics less. I think we just need to think about being salt and light more.” – Dean Inserra “Truly, you're never going to be loving enough if you go and speak out against the sacred creeds of our culture today. Be loving anyways.” – Dean Inserra “What are we going to do on November 6? I’m going to do the same thing I’ve been doing for over 20 years as a believer: pray for the president and preach about the King.” – Shane Pruitt

Warren: A group of former MorningStar church members, students, and staff members have signed an open statement calling for MorningStar founder Rick Joyner to resign, among other accountability measures. The statement, published by MorningStar Accountability Now on September 23, follows the filing of three lawsuits by victims who alleged child sexual abuse by Erickson Lee during MorningStar programs. The lawsuits also seek to hold the ministry liable for not preventing the alleged abuse. Natasha: How has the founder responded? Warren: In an email on October 5 to Emily Elston, a leader of the MorningStar Accountability Now group, Joyner said, “I am the one God gave to raise up MorningStar, and I will not abandon my post except by His clearly revealed will.” The accountability statement has over 200 named signatories, some of whom are former teachers at the church's Comenius School for Creative Leadership, as well as church attendees, Morningstar staff, and others affiliated with the Morningstar School of Ministry. Natasha: In addition to calling for Joyner's resignation, the statement also calls for an independent audit of the MorningStar board, the credentials of its members, and its policies and procedures. Warren: MorningStar does not file an informational Form 990 with the Internal Revenue Service where the board members' names would be listed, nor does it have them easily accessible on its ministry website. The episode kicks off with the hosts bantering about their recent experiences, including unexpected and awkward encounters with strangers. They recount a night out where Bobby found himself in an alley with a surprise penis in front of him, leading to a hilarious recounting of their adventures. The conversation then shifts to Bobby's attempts at playing a game of seduction, which he humorously admits is not going well. Jim teases Bobby about his direct approach to flirting and seduction, contrasting it with his own more coy and strategic methods. They discuss the concept of seduction techniques, drawing from the book "The Game," and how these tactics apply (or don't apply) in the gay community.Bobby shares his thoughts on the privilege and entitlement of celebrity children, particularly targeting Northwest and her Broadway debut, which he humorously compares to a "Make a Wish" performance. The hosts also delve into their own childhood memories, touching on moments that may have hinted at their sexual orientation from a young age.A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to a discussion on neurodivergence, with Bobby and Jim reflecting on their own experiences and traits that might suggest they are on the autism spectrum. This leads to a broader conversation about how they navigate social interactions and sensory overloads in crowded or noisy environments. The episode takes a serious yet comedic turn as the hosts express their frustration with societal expectations and the constant need to censor themselves to avoid offending others. Bobby passionately declares that he will no longer hold back and will speak his mind, regardless of potential backlash. The hosts wrap up the episode by encouraging listeners to call in and share their most unfiltered thoughts and opinions, promising to protect their anonymity. Drawing inspiration from Jesus' encounter with the Samaritan woman at the well in John, chapter 4, we explore how to engage with others in a Christ-like manner. Jesus' model of compassion, truth, and the offer of eternal life serves as a foundation for our discussion, providing insights on reflecting both grace and truth in our interactions during Pride Month.Listen in as we tackle the challenging balance of love and truth in relationships, particularly with those who have differing views on sexuality and gender. We emphasize the importance of kindness, respect, humility, and honesty about God's design for human identity and relationships. By examining Jesus' respectful and transformative conversation with the Samaritan woman, we illustrate how to engage others with compassion and understanding, guiding them towards their true identity in Christ without compromising biblical truths. We also address the broader issues surrounding LGBTQ+ relationships and the personal struggles many Christians face. This includes responding to friends and family attending pride events and building meaningful relationships rooted in love and truth. Additionally, we discuss how to see individuals as whole persons made in the image of God, the role of social media, and guiding children through cultural messages about sexuality and gender.
