It's Thursday, June 25th, A.D. 2026. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark and Adam McManus Cuban Communists keep sick Protestant pastor imprisoned Christian Solidarity Worldwide reports a Protestant pastor remains in prison in Cuba amid concerns for his health. Pastor Alexis Padrón Lorenzo leads the Communion in Faith Church in Havana. Authorities detained him on June 10, physically abused him during interrogation, and blocked family members from contacting him. This happened after Lorenzo expressed opposition to the country's communist system.  Please pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ in Cuba. The country is ranked 24th on the Open Doors World Watch List of the most oppressive countries worldwide for Christians. Write a polite, 2-sentence note of objection to Cuba's top diplomat: Lianys Torres Rivera, Cuban Consulate, 2639 16th Street NW, Washington DC, 20009. Rubio urges new Columbian president to end illegal immigration to U.S. As The Worldview reported on June 23rd, the citizens of the South American country of Colombia narrowly elected conservative Abelardo De La Espriella, who was Trump-endorsed, over left-wing candidate Iván Cepeda.  De La Espriella promised a crackdown on crime.  g the election, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio posted, “The Trump Administration looks forward to working closely with your incoming administration to advance regional security cooperation, end illegal immigration to the United States, and strengthen our economic ties.” Daniel 2:21 reminds us that God “changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings.” Biden's illegal immigration drove up housing costs In the United States, a recent report from the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas found illegal migration under the Biden administration drove up housing costs. The report estimates that unauthorized immigrant worker flows explain  about 30% of the total growth in house prices and 20% of total growth in rents.  Listen to comments last year by Vice President J.D. Vance on the subject. VANCE: “When we talk about housing and why costs are so high, we don't talk enough about demand. One of the drivers of increased housing demand, we know, is that we've got a lot of people over the last four years who have come into the country illegally.” Four years since Roe v. Wade overturned: Pro-life laws in 19 states Four years ago, on June 24, 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. The ruling said the U.S. Constitution does not include a right to abortion. It also handed regulation of abortion to individual states. Since then, 19 states have passed anti-abortion laws. Thirteen states ban abortions in most cases. Four states ban abortions at 6 weeks of pregnancy. And two states ban them at 12 weeks. Trump ends sexually explicit school teen programs The Daily Signal reports that the Trump administration will cut funding to many teenage pregnancy prevention programs in schools this week. The Department of Health and Human Services reviewed Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program grants. It decided to terminate most of them, ending $67 million in grants.  The administration described the grants from the Biden-era as “medically inaccurate,” “age-inappropriate,” and “sexually explicit.” U.S., Mexico, & Canada Bible societies share Christ during World Cup Bible societies are using the 2026 World Soccer Cup to engage millions of fans with Scripture. The United States, Canada, and Mexico are hosting the event. So, the American Bible Society, the Mexican Bible Society, and the Canadian Bible Society are promoting Bibles, devotionals, and evangelistic booklets.  Christian Daily International notes, “These efforts reflect a broader trend among Bible societies worldwide. As major global events attract billions of viewers, organizations are increasingly developing resources that connect Scripture with cultural moments and reach people who may not normally engage with churches or religious programs.” For example, Living Waters, founded by Evangelist Ray Comfort, has printed 2 million copies of the 2026 World Cup million-dollar bill tract available for free when you cover the shipping. They are an effective tool because there is: Instant curiosity: People pick it up and ask questions Natural transition: From “World Cup” to The Cup of Grace Clear Gospel message: Simple, direct, and memorable And it's easy to share: Great for friends, coworkers, and public outreaches Visit the website: www.LivingWaters.com/WorldCup Major League Baseball no longer requires Christian players to support perversion And finally, Major League Baseball recently announced it will not require players to wear uniforms that promote sexually perverted lifestyles.  The issue arose after three San Francisco Giants players added Bible verses to the Rainbow Homosexual Pride caps which they were initially required to wear. Republican Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri posted a letter from the Commissioner of Major League Baseball. Hawley wrote, “The Major Leage Baseball Commissioner writes to me and admits they were wrong to threaten the Giants players over Bible verses and promises never to fine or discipline these players -- or any players for their religious beliefs.” Several San Francisco Giants Christian pitchers — Landen Roupp, Ryan Walker, and J.T. Brubaker  — referenced Genesis chapter 9 on their hats about the true meaning of the rainbow. In verses 14 and 15, God said, “It shall be, when I bring a cloud over the Earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud; and I will remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh.” Landon Roup was asked about his hand-written Scripture on his cap at a press conference. ROUP: “God's covenant, and a promise that He makes to us, that His faithfulness and His mercy. It's kind of something I believe in. I stand firm in that.” Amusingly, Cyd Ziegler, the homosexual co-founder of OutSports, was enraged by the Scripture the Christian pitchers had added to the hats. ZIEGLER: “It defaced the Pride Rainbow with a Bible verse telling the LGBT community that they do not own the rainbow, that God owns the rainbow.” Mr. Ziegler, I've got news for you.  God does own the rainbow! Send a two-sentence thank you note to Robert Manfred, Major League Baseball Commissioner, 1271 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10020. And send a 2-sentence thank you note to Landen Roupp for his Christian witness and outspokeness. San Francisco Giants, Oracle Park. 24 Willie Mays Plaza, San Francisco, CA 94107. Even though we may talk about Kolsch Night all month long, it only happens on the third Tuesday of each month. This Tuesday happened to be said night, so this is a slightly shorter-than-normal show, but we still made sure we covered 5 pieces of content for you! Some of the things we chatted about before heading down to OTR were:  Producer Nick needs a yard pass. Julia's discomfort with videos and how that's all MadTree's fault this week. Overusing the "DISAPPOINTED" button. The Gnome and the Patriot Pack and how it was different than expected. Discussing if phone books still exist. Ziegler is in the tanks and Brittany is eyeing that 3rd Golden Gnome! Marco was right this whole time about the most recent version of Axis Mundi. More beers coming to Parks and Rec. Cincy Brew Dads busting out a tongue twister of an episode title. There was a pupper wandering around the background, so Julia got distracted by that and had to watch the episode twice to take accurate notes and counts. Were all their cheese curd facts...factual? Did Gnome use poisoned sugar cubes in his cocktail? Gnome talked some Half Truths. Someone on the internet is unhappy. Bret and Mike don't know if alcohol is good for you or not anymore. Billions of extra pints of alcohol will be drunk by 2 Brits during the World Cup. Was bedeutet ein solcher Satz theologisch?

Filmmaker drew inspiration from Philipstown Lily Weisberg, a 26-year-old filmmaker from New York City, has been directing and producing films in Philipstown since she was a student at Yale. Rare Birds, her most recent short film, was inspired by the natural beauty and "inherent intimacy" of rural Putnam County, she says. She spent many summers in Garrison, riding Metro-North from the city to attend camps at The Depot Theater. Her parents moved to Philipstown while she was in college. Weisberg's 10-minute film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 5 and will be shown again today (June 12) and Saturday. "It's a festival I've dreamed about having a movie in as long as I've been making movies," she said. In the film, a serial klutz named Jerry (Tony Macht) risks losing his job at a local antique store. "He's like a bull in a China shop," Weisberg said, with a laugh. "He obviously should not be working in an antique store." Jerry is also a camp counselor, and one of the campers, 12-year-old Candice (Zoe Ziegler), is a frequent visitor. She is determined to get Jerry fired so the friends can spend more time together. Their relationship, says Weisberg, is "the kind that can only really exist in a small town. They're both these oddball characters, but they're united because they are similar and from the same place." The film was shot at Bowen Barn, a shop in Stanfordville, but Weisberg and her team scouted antique stores in and near Philipstown and Beacon. "We used what we saw in our set design," she said. "I liked the idea of creating this sort of cocoon for them —a cozy, dark antique store where everything's fragile, but it's kind of desolate." Weisberg directed two previous short films, Studio 210 (2021) and Working Summer (2024), at her parents' home. Her mother's studio and gardens served as inspiration for the former, in which an aspiring artist spends a summer at his friend's mother's studio. "I wanted to make something that used all of this beauty that she'd created," said Weisberg of her mother, Deborah Needleman, a basketmaker. Achieving small-town authenticity has its challenges. Child labor laws limited how long Ziegler could be on set, and the Bowen Barn contains many fragile items that required caution when moving cameras and lights. On the plus side, "the energy is just so good with a crew that lives and works in the Hudson Valley," said Weisberg. "People are happy because they're surrounded by nature and beauty. "The fact of just loving a place comes through in a movie," she says. "I want to work in places that I love and have a relationship to." Rare Birds will be screened in New York City today (June 12) at 8:30 p.m. at Spring Studios (50 Varick St.) and on Saturday at 2:15 p.m. at AMC 19th St. East 6 (890 Broadway). See tribecafilm.com/films/rare-birds-2026. For Weisberg's earlier films, see dub.sh/weisberg-films.

Becky Kennedy and Sheryl Zielger are both psychologists who are raising teenagers themselves. I discovered their names in an article they had written for CNBC's online site. The article's title caught my eye: “If you want to raise stronger, more independent kids, give them this: They need it now more than ever say psychologists.” Kennedy and Ziegler cit how many parents today are so filled with the fear of doing something wrong, that they try not to push too hard or enforce too many rules, assuming that doing so might push their kids into stress, anxiety, and a host of other mental health issues. But the two tell us that this is NOT what our kids need. Rather, what our kids need is for us to boldy claim – and in some cases reclaim – our parental authority. They say that now more than ever need us to offer up a safe system, a structure where we are in control. As Christian parents, we know from reading Scripture that this is our responsibility. But are we exercising our God-given authority?

S11E112, 14-Hour Standoff Ends With Dead Bad Guy And No Innocent Lives Lost 14-hour standoff ends with dead bad guy and no innocent lives lost. Officer arrested for stealing $10K from a deceased man. Man shot after throwing Molotov cocktails and stabbed K-9. Cop arrested after allegedly pointing firearm at officer for microwaving fish. Woman armed with a knife fatally shot. Woman holding glass object shot dead by officers. **Six-Paragraph Summary** Bakersfield Hostage Crisis Resolution The episode opens with detailed coverage of a 14-hour hostage standoff at a Chase bank complex in Bakersfield, California, involving a bomb threat, eight hostages, and an armed suspect. Negotiators secured the release of hostages unharmed before the FBI engaged and fatally shot the suspect who refused to surrender. The hosts praise the inter-agency cooperation and patient approach as excellent training and a successful outcome with no innocent lives lost. Bad Cop Credit Card Theft Case A young Haines City police officer, Jeffrey Ziegler, was arrested by Polk County Sheriff's Office for stealing over $10,000 using credit cards belonging to a deceased man he lived with through his girlfriend. The fraud went undetected for nearly two years until family members discovered past-due notices. Sheriff Grady Judd expressed strong disapproval, noting the theft permanently ends Ziegler's law enforcement career after his immediate resignation. Grand Rapids Police Shooting of Armed Suspect Grand Rapids officers responded to a 911 call from a mother about her son threatening the family with knives and possible suicide. After prolonged negotiations, the suspect threw a Molotov cocktail at a police cruiser, attempted carjacking, and stabbed a police canine. Despite multiple less-lethal deployments, officers used lethal force when he charged with a knife, resulting in the suspect's death. The guest critiques tactical positioning and over-reliance on less-lethal options. Microwave Fish Officer Incident A Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, police detective was arrested and fired after allegedly pointing his department-issued firearm at a fellow officer who was reheating fish in the department microwave, causing an odor complaint. The felony charge involves pointing and presenting a firearm. Both hosts express disbelief at the escalation over a workplace lunch dispute. Two Female Bathroom Deadly Force Videos The show reviews two body camera incidents. In Miami-Dade, deputies responded to a woman locked in a bathroom who had cut herself; she emerged with a raised knife and was shot after a taser deployment. In Louisville, officers and firefighters responded to a suicidal woman who exited the bathroom armed with broken porcelain and charged, leading to fatal shots. Discussion focuses on mental health crises, close-quarters threats, and lethal versus less-lethal decisions. Guest Commentary and Show Close Scott Steyer provides tactical insights on the Grand Rapids incident and broader use-of-force considerations, emphasizing the need for lethal cover when less-lethal is deployed. The hosts discuss public faith in institutions, FBI reforms, and sponsor promotions before closing the episode and promoting the next live show. **SEO Keywords / Key Phrases** Bakersfield hostage standoff, FBI officer involved shooting, Haines City police officer arrested, stealing from dead man, Grand Rapids police Molotov cocktail, police canine stabbed, Miami Dade deputy shoots woman with knife, Louisville police bathroom shooting, officer points gun over microwaved fish, law enforcement talk show use of force

Midnight Train from Georgia chronicles the incredible rise of Gladys Knight and the Pips from their origins singing in a small Atlanta church to their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. When two families' destinies intertwine at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, they discover the extraordinary musical talents of their children. Young cousins William Guest, Eleanor Guest, Gladys Knight, Brenda Knight, and Bubba Knight unite their heavenly vocals to form The Pips gospel choir. We follow William Guest from his formative years in Atlanta, where his love of music is kindled by evenings listening to his family perform rhythmic gospel songs on their porch. The Pips' journey takes them from these humble back-porch jam sessions to struggle and sacrifice on the road to stardom. With faith, fortitude and William's grandmother's lessons to guide them, the group overcomes adversity through the transcendent power of their music. Midnight Train from Georgia is an inspiring tale about the bonds of family, church and music. It's a story of poverty to fortune, innocence to experience, and childhood friendship growing into Hall of Fame synergy. Their sweet harmonies touched millions over decades, but it all started with kids finding their voices in a small Georgia choir.Lady Dhyana Ziegler, DCJ, Ph.D., is currently President and CEO of Z/Creators, LLC and Professor Emerita of Florida A&M University, U.S.A. . In this Kitchen Table Talk episode, the Ladies are joined by Pastor Michael Ziegler, current speaker of The Lutheran Hour, for an encouraging conversation on the importance of memorizing Scripture.   Why should Christians take the time to memorize Scripture? Does memorizing scripture help you understand it better? What are some “pro-tips” for committing lengthy passages to memory? Were you a theater kid growing up? How did you get started memorizing longer passages? Are there elements of our modern life that get in the way of our memorizing Scripture and other salutary texts — if so, how can we counteract those? Is it easier or harder to memorize texts as we get older?   The Rev. Dr. Michael Ziegler has served with Lutheran Hour Ministries as speaker of The Lutheran Hour since 2018. Before joining LHM, he served as a parish pastor in two congregations and as an officer in the US Air Force. He and his wife, Amy, have four children. This week on Truth to Power, we bring you a conversation with Joshua W. Busby, the recipient of the 2026 Grawemeyer Award for Ideas Improving World Order. On April 14th, at UofL's Ekstrom Library, Joshua Busby was honored for his work to understand why climate change leads to negative security consequences in some places and not others. Joshua W. Busby is a professor of public affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. He presented these ideas in his book, “States and Nature: The Effects of Climate Change on Security.” In the book, Busby explains how the combination of state capacity, political exclusion and international assistance determine the degree to which the impacts of climate change affect security for a country's citizens. “The effects of pollution from burning fossil fuels have fundamentally altered our climate and will get worse until we move to cleaner energy,” Busby said. “Even as we transition away from fossil fuels, we have to prepare for climate impacts, some of which are inevitable at this point. Countries with weak government capacity, where political institutions exclude some people from power and where foreign assistance is blocked or delivered to some groups and not others are likely to have the worst outcomes, including humanitarian emergencies and violent conflict,” he said. “But the hopeful story of my book is that the worst consequences of climate change are not inevitable. Governments, even very poor ones, can take steps to protect their populations from climate harms and prevent large-scale loss of life from exposure to climate-related extreme weather, including cyclones and droughts. With a little bit of outside help, governments have been able to reduce their vulnerability to climate disasters and concerted action can prevent climate shocks from escalating to violence.” Charles E. Ziegler, University of Louisville professor of political science, University Scholar and director of the Grawemeyer Award for Ideas Improving World Order, said Busby's book examines the crucial global governance topic of confronting the negative implications of climate change in the realm of security. “Busby's carefully conducted case studies allow for comparison of neighboring states that are confronted with similar climate hazards, yet experience very different outcomes,” Ziegler said. “The policy implications for confronting the security costs of climate change are clear and particularly timely given controversy about how to deal with the global climate crisis.” The Grawemeyer Award for Ideas Improving World Order has been given annually since 1988 to those who have taken on issues of world importance and presented viewpoints that could lead to a more just and peaceful world. Each idea supports one noble cause: to inspire us all to work together for the common good. Learn more at https://grawemeyer.org/world-order/ Truth to Power airs every Friday at 9pm, Saturday at 11am, and Sunday at 7pm on Louisville's grassroots, community radio station, Forward Radio 106.5fm WFMP and live streams at https://www.forwardradio.org
