Dr Melinda Gooderham speaks with JCMS Editor-in-chief Dr Kirk Barber about her literature review in the May/June 2019 edition of JCMS. Dr Gooderham and her co-author Nicole Relke looked at vitiligo pathophysiology, reviewed current therapy and discussed the potential value of JAK inhibitors. Their literature review shows JAK inhibitors in patients with vitiligo have a favorable safety profile and effectively produce repigmentation of lesions, especially with concomitant ultraviolet exposure. Dr Gooderham tells Dr Barber she thinks five years from now, the first or second JAK inhibitor agents will be widely available. A prospect that will offer tremendous relief to patients for whom the psycho/social impact of vitiligo is profound. She is an Assistant Professor at Queen’s University and a Consultant Physician at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre. Theme music by Lee Rosevere Produced by PodCraft Productions
