In this powerful episode, Tick Boot Camp Podcast interviews Dr. Karolina Praskeviciute (“Dr. Pras”), a multilingual, European-trained medical doctor who has lived in Lithuania, Hong Kong, London, and the United States, traveled to 89 countries, and now uses her global experience to understand chronic illness from a unique vantage point. Dr. Pras shares her deeply personal story of lifelong unexplained symptoms, childhood mold exposure, a bull's-eye rash at age 15, and a medical system unequipped to recognize chronic tick-borne illness. After a devastating case of early COVID-19 in February 2020, her immune system collapsed, triggering full-blown Lyme disease, Babesia, Bartonella, tick-borne relapsing fever, MCAS, and Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS). This conversation bridges both sides of medicine—Western and functional—and explores how chronic illness forced Dr. Pras to reevaluate everything she learned as a third-generation physician. She now brings a rare, dual perspective as both clinician and patient. Key Topics Covered ➤ Growing up in Lithuania: culture, safety, freedom & early mold exposure She describes an independent childhood surrounded by nature—but also living in a poorly insulated home with significant hidden mold that triggered early allergies, stomach pain, nosebleeds, and metallic taste. ➤ Medical school awakening: Why Western medicine failed her symptoms Despite coming from a family of doctors, she noticed early on that conventional medicine couldn't explain many of her symptoms—and she witnessed firsthand how chronic illness is minimized, dismissed, or mislabeled. ➤ The first tick bite at 15 & the bull's-eye rash ignored by doctors Despite developing textbook erythema migrans, pediatricians refused treatment. Her mother initiated a short doxycycline course on her own—far too short to prevent chronic Lyme. ➤ Traveling the world & accumulating exposures After living and working across continents, she now believes different strains, microbes, and environmental factors layered into the perfect storm. ➤ Long COVID as the breaking point Like many chronically ill patients, COVID destabilized everything: massive immune dysregulation nonstop inflammation MCAS flares worsening neurological symptoms Lyme and Babesia fully activating ➤ Mold + Lyme + Long COVID = The Perfect Storm Her CIRS diagnosis revealed why she never recovered even after leaving mold exposure—and why immune dysfunction made Lyme treatment far more complex. ➤ Her diagnostic breakthrough with IGeneX After repeated false-negative Western blots, specialty testing finally uncovered: Lyme Babesia Bartonella Tick-borne relapsing fever (TBRF) Immune activation on FISH testing ➤ Treatment: Herbs, LymeStop, detox, keto, and functional medicine Her current regimen includes: Houttuynia (major reduction in joint pain within 1 week) Cryptolepis (powerful antimicrobial requiring slow titration) Custom herbal protocols (single-herb tinctures) HBOT INUSpheresis Light sauna Gentle lymphatic drainage Vagus nerve support Journaling & limbic system retraining Strict ketogenic diet after a 7-day fast dramatically reduced inflammation She also discusses the risks of Botox, fillers, tattoos, and skincare toxins for chronically ill patients. ➤ Nervous system healing as the foundation of recovery She explains why vagus nerve work and limbic retraining may fail if patients are still in toxin exposure (like mold or endotoxins)—a vital distinction rarely discussed. ➤ Becoming a doctor who understands chronic illness from both sides This episode explores: medical defensiveness gaslighting vs unhealthy doctor-patient dynamics why patients must be empowered, not dismissed why doctors also need compassion and realistic expectations how her future clinical practice will integrate empathy, functional medicine, and lived experience Top Quotes From Dr. Pras “I dismissed my own symptoms because I was trained to believe nothing was wrong unless labs proved it.” “Mold was the silent force that weakened my system long before Lyme took over.” “Healing is not linear. Some days it feels like I'm starting over, but I always come back stronger.” “Doctors have tools—but without a healthy doctor-patient relationship, those tools don't work.” “I can help others now because I know when to push and when to pull back. Lived experience matters.” Where to Find Dr. Karolina Pras Instagram: @drkaromd Email: drkaro@healthkonsultant.com (“consultant” spelled with a K)

How do we distinguish past adaptation from active breakdown? And why do so many "standard solutions" fail to prevent restorative complications? Building on the foundational concepts from part one, this episode focuses on how occlusion shows up in day-to-day practice—and how dentists can make more informed decisions before committing to complex restorative or implant treatment. Dr. Kois explains why visual wear alone is an unreliable predictor of risk, how to identify whether wear is active versus inactive, and why patient symptoms often tell a more important story than what we see on models or scans. A major theme of this conversation is closing the gap between chairside evaluation and real-world function. Dr. Kois challenges common habits—such as adjusting restorations with patients fully reclined, relying solely on articulating paper marks, or reflexively prescribing nightguards—and explains why these approaches often miss the true etiology of failure. Instead, he emphasizes evaluating occlusion in positions and movements that reflect how patients actually chew, speak, and function throughout the day. In this episode, you'll learn: How to identify true high-risk occlusal cases before restorative treatment begins Why active wear and patient-reported change matter more than historical attrition How muscle symptoms, mobility, and joint loading influence predictability When nightguards and Botox may mask symptoms rather than solve the problem Why larger restorative and implant cases demand a deeper understanding of jaw position, tooth fit, and functional pathways Dr. Kois also shares candid insights on emerging technologies such as jaw tracking—where they add value, where they fall short, and why they are most impactful in comprehensive and full-arch cases rather than routine dentistry. The discussion highlights an important truth: many restorative failures are not material failures, but diagnostic failures rooted in incomplete occlusal assessment. The episode closes with a powerful reflection on learning, clinical growth, and professional development—distinguishing information from knowledge, and knowledge from wisdom. Dr. Kois outlines the progression from skepticism to commitment, underscoring why true clinical mastery requires not just understanding concepts, but applying them consistently over time. Together, parts one and two form a cohesive framework for thinking differently about occlusion—one grounded in physiology, adaptation, and long-term predictability. If you're aiming to move beyond bread-and-butter dentistry and into more complex, fulfilling clinical work, this conversation provides essential perspective on how to do so more thoughtfully and successfully.

HEALTH NEWS   Probiotics emerge as a potent tool against depression and anxiety Altered microbiome: Oral bacteria play a role in chronic liver disease, study reveals Health issues linked to cosmetic jab complications From yoga to awe walks: Many paths lead to better mental health, largest analysis of well-being interventions finds Weight loss drugs may cause nutritional deficiencies without proper guidanc       Probiotics emerge as a potent tool against depression and anxiety University of Calgary (Canada), January 14 2026 (Natural News) For decades, the standard pharmaceutical approach to treating depression and anxiety has dominated treatment options, despite significant drawbacks including delayed effects, debilitating side effects and high relapse rates. Now, compelling new research is challenging this paradigm by pointing to a surprising source of relief: the gut. A comprehensive scientific analysis, synthesizing data from over 1,400 clinically diagnosed patients, reveals that probiotics—beneficial bacteria readily available as supplements—can produce substantial reductions in both depressive and anxious symptoms.   The analysis major findings include:     A major analysis of 23 clinical trials finds probiotics can significantly reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety in clinically diagnosed patients.   The benefits, appearing within 4-8 weeks, were comparable to some conventional antidepressants but without the same side-effect profile.   The gut-brain axis, a communication network largely ignored by conventional psychiatry, is central to understanding this connection.   Single-strain probiotic supplements, particularly certain Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species, showed the strongest mental health effects.   This research supports a holistic view of mental wellness, where gut health is a foundational component of treatment.     Altered microbiome: Oral bacteria play a role in chronic liver disease, study reveals Technical University Munich (Germany), January 15 2026 (Medical Xpress) Each year, more than two million people die from advanced chronic liver disease (ACLD). Previous research has linked gut microbiome disruptions to this condition and suggested that bacteria typically found in the mouth may colonize the gut. A new study published in Nature Microbiology now shows that identical bacterial strains occur in both the mouth and gut of patients with advanced chronic liver disease and also reveals a mechanism by which oral bacteria affect gut health. The researchers also found that this process coincides with worsening liver health. Researchers analyzed bacterial populations in saliva and stool samples from patients. The team found that both the gut and oral microbiome undergo significant changes as liver disease worsened, where changes to the oral microbiome were already detectable at earlier disease stages. In healthy individuals, bacterial communities differ substantially between body sites. In patients with liver disease, however, oral and gut microbiomes became increasingly similar as the disease progressed and nearly identical bacterial strains were recovered from the mouth and gut of patients. "These strains are typically found in the mouth and are rarely present in the healthy gut. However, we observed increases in the absolute abundances of these oral bacteria in patients with advanced chronic liver disease. This strongly suggests that these bacteria translocate from the mouth and colonize the gut," explains Melanie Schirmer, Professor of Translational Microbiome Data Integration at TUM.   Health issues linked to cosmetic jab complications Anglia Ruskin University (UK), January 9 2026 (Eurekalert)   Patients with chronic illnesses face a significantly higher risk of complications from cosmetic botulinum toxin injections, commonly known as Botox, according to a major UK study. Researchers from Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) surveyed 919 adults who had received botulinum toxin treatments for aesthetic reasons. The study, published in Aesthetic Surgery Journal, is the largest of its kind to have been carried out in the UK. Botulinum toxin injections are among the UK's most popular cosmetic procedures, with an estimated 900,000 treatments performed every year. Researchers found that underlying conditions such as type 1 diabetes, thyroid disorders, chronic migraine and skin disease dramatically increase the likelihood of adverse effects. According to the study, people with type 1 diabetes were 92 times more likely to experience nausea after treatment compared to those without the condition. Those with thyroid disorders and chronic migraine sufferers had an approximately 10-fold increase in the risk of nausea. Other complications associated with pre-existing conditions included headaches, bruising, muscle weakness and persistent eyelid droop (ptosis). Patients with cataracts were 30 times more likely to report headaches, and those with prior injuries had a 21-fold increased risk of losing facial expression.   From yoga to awe walks: Many paths lead to better mental health, largest analysis of well-being interventions finds Swansea University (UK), January 15 2026 (Medical Xpress) New research by Swansea experts has provided the largest ever comparison of well-being-focused interventions delivered to adults. The team reviewed 183 randomized controlled trials, representing almost 23,000 participants, and evaluated 12 categories of interventions ranging from psychological, physical, mind–body, and nature-based approaches to find out more. Their research was the first interdisciplinary comparison carried out across psychological, physical, mind-body and environmental interventions. The study gives an integrated view of how different disciplines contribute to well-being. By focusing on general adult samples rather than clinical groups, it provides evidence that will be relevant to developing public health, education, workplace well-being, and community programs. The researchers' key findings were: Most interventions improved well-being compared with inactive control groups; Strongest effects were found for combined exercise plus psychological interventions (for example, awe walks or meditation combined with walking); Mind–body interventions showed consistently moderate, reliable effects; Exercise alone produced similar benefits to many psychological interventions; and, Positive psychology interventions—both single-component and multicomponent—were also effective. The analysis shows that there is no single route to improving well-being. Mindfulness, compassion-based approaches, yoga, exercise and positive psychology interventions all showed moderate benefits compared with control groups, and combining physical activity with psychological interventions appeared particularly promising.   Weight loss drugs may cause nutritional deficiencies without proper guidance     University College London & Cambridge, January 7 2026 (News-Medical) People prescribed the new generation of weight loss drugs may not receive sufficient nutritional guidance to support safe and sustainable weight loss, leaving them vulnerable to nutritional deficiencies and muscle loss, say experts at UCL and the University of Cambridge. In research published today in Obesity Reviews, the team found a lack of robust evidence surrounding nutritional advice and support and the impact this has on factors such as calorie intake, body composition, protein adequacy, and patient experiences. Weight loss drugs such as semaglutide and tirzepatide – available under brand names including Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro – mimic the naturally-occurring hormone glucagon like peptide-1 (GLP-1), released into the blood in response to eating. The drugs suppress appetite, increase a feeling of being full, and reduce food cravings. These drugs can reduce calorie intake by between 16-39 %, making them a powerful tool to help people living with obesity and being overweight. However, there has been little research to examine their impact on diet quality, protein intake, or adequacy of micronutrients (vitamins and minerals). The researchers identified just 12 studies that looked at nutrition and diet alongside treatment with semaglutide or tirzepatide. Given the widespread – and increasing – use of these medications and the urgency of providing advice to individuals using the drugs, there was insufficient evidence from the studies to recommend strict low-fat diets to complement the weight loss drugs. Some observational studies found that people on the treatments often consumed excessive levels of total and saturated fat. These medications are transforming obesity care, but we know very little about how they shape people's daily lives, including changes in appetite, eating patterns, wellbeing, and quality of life.

In this episode of The Liquidity Event, AJ and Shane cover a wide-ranging mix of energy policy, tax reform, tech culture, and the strange economics of looking younger. They dig into nuclear energy's comeback in the U.S. and why AI, data centers, and crypto are driving a massive surge in energy demand, leaving America far behind countries like China and France. The conversation then shifts to Mitt Romney's New York Times op-ed arguing that the wealthy should pay more in taxes, unpacking the Social Security trust fund cliff, student loans, and the tax "caverns" that delay revenue collection. The episode wraps with a tour of the strangest CES tech, from AI companions to silent ice makers, and a candid look at med spas, Botox as a subscription business, and why injectables have quietly become one of the fastest-growing corners of the economy. Curate a life that feels good as it looks in the School of Self-Image membership. Sign up here: https://schoolofselfimage.com/join What if everything we've been told about aging well is keeping us from actually living well? What if all the products, protocols, and rules for "aging gracefully" are actually doing the opposite? You've heard the typical hacks: eat healthy, exercise, maybe even Botox. But those things don't guarantee a well-lived life. As I turn 50, I want to share what truly matters when it comes to creating a life that feels as good as it looks. These aren't the surface-level tips you'll find in a magazine. These are the deeper, more sophisticated truths about what it really takes to age powerfully. Here's what we cover: • Why aging well isn't about holding on to youth, but releasing what no longer fits • How knowing and living your true values reshapes the second half of your life • The difference between looking young and feeling fully alive • Why pleasure, presence, and vitality matter more than constant productivity • How cultivating interests and boundaries creates richness, confidence, and ease • The power of consciously choosing and telling an aging story rooted in expansion, not decline A note on this episode: We experienced some technical difficulties during recording that affected the audio and video quality. The conversation itself, however, is too valuable not to share. Did you enjoy this episode? Subscribe to the podcast and leave a 5-star review! From sunscreen myths and retinoids to estrogen cream, injectables, and the pressure created by social media and constant self-viewing, this episode offers a grounded approach to caring for your skin — without chasing every trend. In this insightful episode of The Art of Living Well Podcast®, hosts Marnie Dachis Marmet and Stephanie May Potter sit down with dermatologist Dr. Mina to explore what it really means to age well. Dr. Mina shares how longevity-focused skincare is less about "anti-aging" and more about prevention, consistency, and supporting the body from the inside out. Together, they unpack common misconceptions around Botox, sunscreen, fillers, retinol, and hormonal skin changes while emphasizing why simplicity, trust, and long-term strategy matter most. Through honest conversation, clinical experience, and relatable examples, this episode empowers women to step off the "hot girl hamster wheel," make informed decisions, and feel confident in a skincare routine that supports both health and longevity. What You'll Learn in This Episode: ● Why constant self-viewing on video and social media is impacting how women perceive aging ● How to reframe aging away from "anti-aging" and toward longevity and prevention ● The most important skincare foundations every woman should prioritize ● Why sunscreen remains the single most powerful anti-aging tool ● The truth about sunscreen safety, vitamin D, and common misinformation ● How retinoids and retinol actually work and how to use them safely   ● What estrogen cream does for midlife skin and why it matters ● How Botox works, its safety profile, and when it may (or may not) be helpful ● Why fillers, PRP, microneedling, lasers, and biostimulants all have a place -when done well ● How to avoid overdoing treatments and choose what's right for your skin ● Why having a trusted practitioner is more important than chasing trends Noteworthy Quotes from the Episode: ● "Longevity isn't about looking younger - it's about feeling and functioning your best for as long as possible." ● "You don't have to do everything. In fact, you shouldn't." ● "If you did nothing else but protect your skin from the sun, you'd be years ahead." ● "Retinoids don't thin your skin - they actually build collagen." ● "Botox is one of the most studied medications we have and has decades of safety data." ● "Aging isn't something to fix. It's something to support."   Episode Breakdown with Timestamps: 00:00 – Longevity, skin health, and why feeling good matters more than looking young 02:40 – Why video culture changed how we see our faces and aging 08:25 – Dr. Mina's personal turning point during the pandemic 14:40 – Anti-aging vs longevity and the simplest skincare routine 23:05 – Skincare misinformation and the "hot girl hamster wheel" 32:20 – Retinol, estrogen cream, and real midlife skin changes 42:10 – Botox explained: safety, prevention, and common fears 54:40 – Aging with peace, confidence, and self-acceptance _______________________________________ "We love supporting our health from the inside out with Redmond Real Salt and Relyte Electrolytes. Raising Serotonin

Welcome to the first Raising Serotonin episode of 2026!!! I wanted to kick this year off by talking about something that's been sitting heavy with me, the idea that glow ups are still being framed as mostly physical. Hair, nails, Botox, weight… and almost no conversation around mental health. And personally, I believe every single one of us can always be working on our mental health. In this episode of Raising Serotonin, I talk about why physical changes alone don't create lasting happiness, and why mindset, emotional health, gut health, and daily habits matter just as much, if not more. I share what my own 2026 glow up looks like, including starting my counseling practicum and stepping fully into the work I feel called to do: listening, supporting, and helping others heal. This year isn't about changing how I look, it's about growing mentally, emotionally, and professionally.I also break down what a mental health glow up can actually look like, because it's different for everyone. There's no timeline, no pressure to change everything at once, and no “right” way to do this. Whether you're focusing on therapy, movement, boundaries, nutrition, or simply being more mindful, you have the next 11 months to grow and growth can start anytime you choose.I talk about two specific things I'm intentionally working on this year: letting go of chasing a number on the scale and being more mindful of my screen time. The scale can quietly mess with our heads, and social media, while useful,  can be incredibly draining if we're not careful. Protecting our peace matters. This episode is a reminder that the work is daily, not seasonal. There is no finish line. The goal is to get 1% better, show up with intention, and choose growth even when it's uncomfortable. You deserve to feel good. You don't have to sit in pain this year. And I'm so glad you're here growing with me.Get your Raising Serotonin Merch here! FOLLOW RAISING SEROTONIN ON INSTAGRAM HERE Support the show

Taja, known for her luxury wellness brand Taja Drip, shares her journey from her hippie-named, Moroccan-Tunisian roots to pioneering anti-aging treatments in Miami's Faena Hotel. No booze, no Tylenol, just peptides, NAD, glutathione, and a glowy lifestyle that keeps people guessing her age (she looks 28, but that's not the number!). Taja breaks down how NAD slows aging, and teases her soon-to-launch ingestible wellness line—no gummies, just potent, high-dose liquid formulas. We share hilarious IV therapy memories from OC Fashion Week, complete with cleavage-forward nurses and jokes about IV swapping gone wild, as we bond over clean living, hot hair (shoutout to Paris in Beverly Hills), and spiritual connection, before diving into the real secret to longevity: love, joy, and meaningful relationships. The conversation turns intimate as we all reflect on our long-term relationships (Taja's been with her Capricorn partner for 15 years!), the sacredness of loyalty, and not forgiving people who knew exactly what they were doing. Patrik drops wisdom about dialing numbers with intention and calling people spiritually, while Pol' brings his signature warmth and Saint Peter Paul origin story full of Armenian heritage and holiday birthday charm. She spills the tea on the show's glam cast, wild country club culture, and behind-the-scenes drama—think Palm Royale meets Housewives with fashion, philanthropy, and the occasional pineapple-shaped clue about swingers. The show's origin story? Manifested by Taja herself, passed on by a hairdresser, and guided by a psychic who predicted a producer switch. Fate works fast when you're fabulous.

Your brain is not broken and your mind is not a mess. You're not failing as a mom. You're not falling behind as an executive. We need to restore your hormones. I'm Dr. Betty Murray, and in this powerful episode, I sit down with Dr. Romie Mushtaq, neurologist, Chief Wellness Officer for a company of 14,000 people, and bestselling author of The Busy Brain Cure, to expose the workplace crisis that's destroying women's careers and health. Dr. Romie shares her own story of burnout: 120-hour work weeks as one of less than 5% of female brain doctors in academic medicine, researching women's hormones while her own brain cells felt "on fire," chest pain dismissed as "just stress," and life-saving surgery in 2010 that woke her up to what medical school never taught her. But this conversation goes far deeper than one woman's story. We unpack the shocking data showing women in their 40s, 50s, and 60s are being forced out of the workforce at a rate 15 times higher than men, not because they're failing, but because their perimenopause and menopause symptoms are being dismissed, misdiagnosed, and weaponized against them. You'll Discover: ●     Why women ages 40-60 are being laid off or taking involuntary leave at rates 15 times higher than men ●     Dr. Romie's burnout journey in academic medicine ●     The "hormones are a symphony" framework ●     Why 70-80% of women with mental health symptoms due to stress actually have thyroid as the root cause, with difficulty focusing being the only presenting symptom (mistaken for ADHD or anxiety), while weight fluctuations, dry skin, and irregular cycles come later ●     The truth about perimenopause symptoms ●     Why "authentic leadership" is BS in corporate America ●     The functional medicine gatekeeping crisis: complex gut health diet protocols for busy traveling executives who spend $3,000-$10,000 without getting help, told to "earn your hormones," when brain fog/anxiety sufferers need low-hanging fruit first (progesterone, thyroid) to feel better THEN add lifestyle changes ●     Why no supplement will replace thyroid hormone: if a doctor is selling you supplements instead of prescription medication, run. ●     Stress eating vs comfort food distinction ●     Business dinner survival tactics PLUS, Dr. Romie's "glow up" secret: lost weight, skin glowing, looks younger than 50, wasn't Botox (though she covers gray hair every 3 weeks), was thyroid, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone restoration, started thyroid at 38-39 years old and had regular menstrual cycle for first time in her life This episode is for women in their 40s-60s experiencing brain fog at work, executives who can't focus in meetings, anyone told their symptoms are "just stress," or women considering quitting their jobs because they think they're failing. Watch now and discover why you don't need to quit, you need your hormones restored.   Connect with Dr. Romie Mushtaq Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drromie/ The Busy Brain Cure by Dr. Romie Mushtaq (bestselling book with 8-week protocol) https://drromie.com/book/   Connect with Dr. Betty Murray: Betty Murray Website: https://www.bettymurray.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drbettymurray/ Links: ●     The Fierce Female Method for Longevity (Dr. Betty's book): https://fierce.hormoneshelp.com/ ●     Menrva Telemedicine: https://gethormonesnow.com/ ●     FREE Hormone Quiz: https://bit.ly/3wNJOec ●     Living Well Dallas: https://www.livingwelldallas.com/ ●     Hormone Reset: https://hormonereset.net/ More from the Podcast: Subscribe to #MenopauseMastery → https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwONPdSvb2-YYY74VhD-XBw Apple Podcasts → https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/menopause-mastery/id1607369247 Spotify → https://open.spotify.com/show/0tNsjm32CZNXSgSFEwS3uH Thank you for listening to Menopause Mastery. We explore hopeful developments in cancer prevention, following a Channel 4 documentary and UK reporting on vaccine trials starting this year for people at higher risk, and what this shift towards prevention could mean for the future of healthcare. We also unpack a major move from the World Health Organization to properly study traditional and natural medicine, from meditation and tai chi to simple food-based interventions, and how these practices fit alongside modern medicine. Finally, we look at a sobering wellness story gaining attention at the start of the year.
