He runs twice as far as you walk ... and he does it barefoot. Taking care of your bird dog's feet ensures a great day in the field and a long, problem-free season. I'll share advice from veterinarians and my own and friends' experience preparing our dog's feet for hunting season. I'll offer my personal perspective on "toughening" pads, and what to use for "boots." And once you're out there, I'll outline some things you should do before, during and after the hunt to keep him firing on all eight cylinders and all four paws. Identifying injuries, when to call it a day, what to watch for, how to fix common problems are all on the table. We'll talk about keeping pads supple, nail trimming, and more. Viewers and listeners share the mileage they'll drive on their first-day-of-the-season hunt, and "Fix It" shows you where to look if you want to hit more birds in the field.  And it's all brought to you by: Mid Valley Clays and Shooting School, CableGangz, TrulockChokes, Pointer shotguns, USA Clay Target League, Purina Pro Plan Sport and FindBirdHuntingSpots.com.

I spoke to Sean Geobey, associate professor at the University of Waterloo and Director of Groupthink Labs, about collective intelligence, cooperative economics, and what decentralized technology could actually offer the solidarity economy. We dig into how collective intelligence works at scale, from participatory budgeting experiments in Kitchener to the structural barriers that make setting up a cooperative three times harder than incorporating a business. We also get into the limits of GDP as a measure of anything meaningful, why the left's taboo around finance is a form of unilateral disarmament, and how speculative finance has become the shortest-term thinking industry on the planet while performing the same planning function as the old Soviet Politburo. Sean also looks at Bread Cooperative (a worker cooperative I founded) and where the real bottlenecks are for Web3 to serve collective action rather than undermine it.If you liked the podcast be sure to give it a review on your preferred podcast platform. THE STEFANIE GASS SHOW - Clarity Coaching, Kingdom Entrepreneurs, Podcasting, Courses, Christian Business Coach

Have you ever found yourself wondering why your business isn't growing faster? You're showing up. You're being faithful. You're creating content. You're refining your offer. Maybe you've even rebuilt your sales page three times, and you're still asking yourself, "God, am I doing the right thing?" Friend, I've been there. And what if the delay isn't because God isn't listening? What if He's preparing something in you before He sends the clients you've been praying for? In today's episode, we're having an honest conversation about growth, readiness, and the deeper work God often does behind the scenes before He expands our influence. Because while it's easy to focus on the clients we don't have yet, God is often focused on who we're becoming while we wait. We'll talk about why it's important to pray for the clients you haven't met yet, how to shift your perspective from "What can this business do for me?" to "How can I serve the people God is sending me?" and why some seasons of slow growth may actually be God's grace at work in your life. I'll also walk you through my simple four-part R.E.A.D. check, a practical self-assessment to help you discern whether you're truly ready for the next level of growth you're asking God for. If you've been feeling discouraged, questioning the process, or wondering why the breakthrough hasn't happened yet, this episode will encourage your heart and give you a practical action plan you can start implementing this week. Because I believe God hears every prayer you've prayed over your business. I believe He's in this with you. And I believe there may be a very specific reason He's waiting before He sends what you've been asking for. I pray this blesses you! EP534: Sammy Mattingly & Fred Ott - Systems Before Scale: How Two Partners Built A Firm That Lasts - Part 2 of 2

The Successful Bookkeeper Podcast

See what the team at The Successful Bookkeeper has on right now → Sammy Mattingly and Fred Ott are back for the finale of their two-part conversation with host Michael Palmer. Where Part 1 covered the leap into bookkeeping entrepreneurship, Part 2 gets into the gritty, practical work of making a young firm sustainable — documenting processes, surviving the first real growth wave, hiring employee number one, and deciding what kind of business they actually want to build. Chapters [00:00] Introduction and Episode Recap [01:18] What Makes This Partnership Work [04:30] Growth Wave Exposes System Gaps [07:00] Hiring the First Employee [09:00] Fixing Onboarding the Right Way [12:00] Joining Pure Bookkeeping and Freedom Gateway [15:30] Walls Hit and Lessons Learned [18:30] Long-Term Vision and the Journey [21:30] The 'How to Make a Few Thousand Dollars' Podcast The Partnership Advantage One of the quieter themes running through this episode is just how much the partnership itself has been a growth tool. Sammy puts it plainly: "Fred is the only one of my friends that I could do this with — and it's mostly down to that accountability piece and the amount of work that each of us is going to put into this." For bookkeepers considering a partner arrangement, this episode is a useful reality check on what makes it work — shared drive, mutual trust, and complementary skill sets — and what makes it hard. When Clients Arrive Faster Than Your Systems The real test of any process is live clients. Sammy and Fred thought their systems were solid after months of heavy networking. Then the referrals started rolling in, and the cracks showed fast. "We quickly realized our systems and our processes are not what we need to be able to support the growth that we have now and that we want in the future," Fred says. Their response was to pull back from networking temporarily, sit down together, and map out standard operating procedures from scratch — building workflows, identifying automation opportunities, and stress-testing everything against real client volume. Onboarding: Break It, Fix It, Repeat Onboarding was the first thing to crack under pressure. Rather than patching it on the fly, Sammy and Fred blocked a Saturday, mapped every pain point, and rebuilt it. When the next wave of clients came through a month later, the process was smooth — but it surfaced a new set of smaller issues. "There's always something rolling onto the pocket of like, okay, here's an issue with our process," Sammy says. "Now we need to set aside time to work together to map out how to fix that and how to implement it." That cycle of deliberate improvement is now a permanent feature of how they run the business. Pure Bookkeeping and the Freedom Gateway Sammy credits early podcast listening for pointing him toward Pure Bookkeeping, and describes the decision to join as straightforward once the need for a real system became obvious. What stood out most was the access to experienced guidance: "Having an hour with Lisa Campbell a week, someone who's done it, who's built a very successful firm — she was great in just helping us learn and develop and how to work on the business." They also appreciated that the system is customizable — their Pure and Pixie setup reflects their firm, not a template. Building Toward Something (Without Telling Everyone What It Is) When Michael asks about the long-term vision, neither Sammy nor Fred throws out a revenue number — and Michael approves. Fred frames it well: "Like we want to grow and do all these things, but ultimately the day-to-day — we want the day-to-day to be enjoyable. We like challenging ourselves, we're curious people, and we like learning." They're also currently working through Traction by Gino Wickman and have launched their own podcast, How to Make a Few Thousand Dollars, which earned an early shoutout from the entrepreneur who inspired the name. Links Mentioned Mattingly & Ott Financial Accounting How to Make a Few Thousand Dollars — Sammy and Fred's podcast (search on your podcast app) Pure Bookkeeping — the system referenced throughout the episode Traction by Gino Wickman — EOS framework book Sammy and Fred are currently implementing How to Make a Few Billion Dollars by Brad Jacobs — inspiration for their podcast name The Successful Bookkeeper Episode featuring Theresa Slack — referenced by Michael as a model partnership story About the Guests Fred Ott and Sammy Mattingly are co-founders of Mattingly & Ott Financial Accounting, LLC, a growing bookkeeping firm built on referral-driven networking, deliberate systems work, and a commitment to serving small business owners in their community. Friends since high school, they made the jump from W-2 employment to entrepreneurship together and are now navigating their first year of real scale — with their first employee, a growing client roster, and a podcast of their own. About the hostMichael PalmerMichael Palmer is the host of The Successful Bookkeeper podcast and co-founder of Pure Bookkeeping and The Successful Bookkeeper. He started this work because of his father — a brilliant electrical contractor who worked twice as hard as he should have had to, because nobody on the financial side was in his corner. That gap is what The Successful Bookkeeper exists to close. His view: bookkeepers are the most undervalued force in small business — and every bookkeeper who builds a real business changes two families: theirs, and their clients'.

I'll let you know Tuesday afternoon.(Text10)M: Hello, everybody! Today, I'd like to share with you something about John Audubon. John was born on April 26,1785. He spent much of his childhood in France where he spent many hours each day outdoors painting pictures. At the age of 18, he moved to the United States. Well, actually, John began his life in the US as a businessman. However, instead of taking care of his business, John was often off exploring nature. At first,John spent his time hunting for fun. Then he found that the animals around were very beautiful and he particularly enjoyed observing the birds he saw. He began studying them, trying to learn the differences between the birds, and noticing their different behaviors. Therefore, he painted the birds he observed a lot. In 1819, John realized that he didn't have enough money to pay his bills. He was very upset that he couldn't earn enough money to support his family, so he spent time improving his painting skills and began to sell his paintings. He discovered that he could earn some money while doing something he really enjoyed. We are lucky now to have so many paintings of American birds by John Audubon.

If you're in search of new bird hunting ground, I've got a panel for you from the departments that acquire and manage the walk-in programs in three bird-rich states. Wes Sowards of Kansas, Michael Peyton of South Dakota and Greg Lemon of Montana offer their tips on how their programs work for wingshooting, and more importantly, how to take full advantage of them. We talk about how land is acquired and managed, why ground-truthing is critical, who pays for the walk-in programs, each state's quirks, and how to maximize your time and effort by finding less-hammered ground. They'll give you some starting points in their state for several bird species, and each guest also offers a tip and some helpful hacks that could help you find more birds next season while avoiding the crowds. After that, it's up to you. "Fix It" helps you introduce nail clipping to your new pup, and listeners offer advice on introducing gun fire to a young dog. What if the reason you keep getting injured isn't because you're running too much, but because you're only training half of the machine that makes you a stronger runner? If you've been piling on miles but still getting injured, plateauing, or wondering why race day feels harder than it should, this episode will change the way you think about training. I break down the two systems that drive every runner's performance: the cardiovascular engine that powers your endurance and the musculoskeletal engine that keeps your body strong enough to handle the workload. You'll learn why running alone is not enough, how strength training and speed work fit into the bigger picture, and a simple “mixing board” framework you can use to balance every part of your training without overcomplicating your week.Key TakeawaysTrain Both Engines: Your fitness depends on both your cardiovascular system and your muscles, bones, and tendons. Neglect either one, and your progress will suffer.Running Alone Isn't Enough: Running builds endurance, but strength training builds durability. You need both to stay injury-free.Adjust Your Training Over Time: The right mix of easy runs, hard workouts, and strength work changes throughout the year based on your goals.Timestamps[00:32] What You'll Learn[01:24] The Two Engines Overview[03:26] Cardiovascular Engine: Aerobic Base (Zone 2)[04:50] Do This to Train All the Zones and Get Faster[05:34] Cardiovascular Engine: VO2 Max[07:08] Cardiovascular Engine: Anaerobic[08:18] Musculoskeletal Engine: The One Runners Ignore[13:41] The 2 System Crossover[15:39] Do This to Help Another Runner[16:23] The Mixing Board[22:16] Use This to Improve Your CadenceLinks & Learnings

I spoke to Scoopy Trooples, the pseudonymous co-founder of Alchemix, about self-repaying loans, the wreckage of DeFi scams, and what ethical crypto finance could actually look like.We dig into how Alchemix works, allowing your debt pays itself off over time and what's new in V3. We also get into the broader rot in the space: meme coin pump-and-dumps, celebrity rug pulls, prediction market gambling, and how DeFi summer's promise curdled into financial nihilism. Scoopy is one of the rare crypto founders willing to say the quiet part loud,  that most of what gets built in this space is zero-sum at best and predatory at worst, and has been trying to build something different since day one. This episode is sponsored by NYM, the world's most private VPN. Episode 339 of The Business Development Podcast breaks down The Ten Follow Up Rule, Kelly Kennedy's personal standard for building real pipeline through consistent, disciplined business development. Kelly shares why most sales and BD professionals stop far too early, how fear of rejection and lack of structure kill opportunities, and why every qualified prospect deserves at least ten follow-ups before being disqualified.Through real stories, including the time it took thirty follow-ups to book a major mining meeting, Kelly shows that success in business development is rarely about talent alone. It comes from weekly execution, CRM discipline, clear next steps, performance tracking, and the willingness to keep showing up long after most people quit.Key Takeaways: Most salespeople quit the follow-up process far too early to ever see real results.Consistent weekly follow-up is one of the biggest separators between average and exceptional business development professionals.Fear of rejection causes more lost opportunities than lack of skill.Buyers are usually overwhelmed and distracted, not intentionally ignoring you.A CRM is not just a contact database. It is your business development execution engine. If there is no defined next step, there is no real opportunity.Strong follow-up comes from clarity and structure, not confidence alone.Emotional avoidance often disguises itself as “being busy” with lower-value work.Tracking outreach, meetings, opportunities, and new contacts weekly creates accountability and long-term improvement. The professionals who stay in the game through follow-up number ten consistently create more opportunities than the people who stop after one or two attempts.Sponsor MentionsA huge thank you to Colin Harms and Jamie Crozier for their steadfast support of The Business Development Podcast. The Business Development Podcast is proudly supported by Hypervac Technologies, Hyperfab, Thunder Bay Hydraulics Inc., and Atlas Elite Lifts.Hypervac TechnologiesNorth America's leader in vacuum truck manufacturing, building high-performance hydrovac and industrial vacuum trucks for the toughest field conditions.www.hypervac.comHyperfabThe custom fabrication division of Hypervac, delivering engineered solutions and specialized builds for demanding industrial applications.www.hyperfab.caThunder Bay Hydraulics Inc.A trusted provider of hydraulic cylinder repair and manufacturing, supporting mining, forestry, construction, and industrial operations with reliable, high-quality service.www.thunderbayhydraulics.comAtlas Elite LiftsA premium supplier of automotive lift systems focused on performance, safety, and long-term reliability for shops and garages.www.atlaselitelifts.comJoin The Catalyst Club CommunityIf you are serious about growth, leadership, and surrounding yourself with high-level thinkers, The Catalyst Club is where you need to be.Join us here: www.kellykennedyofficial.com/thecatalystclubStatistics referenced in this episode were sourced from the following article by MarketsandMarkets:“Why Sales Reps Stop Following Up and How to Fix It”https://www.marketsandmarkets.com/AI-sales/why-sales-reps-stop-following-up-how-to-fix-itMentioned in this episode:Hypervac - Revolution Vacuums
