Albright may get away with hanging his hat on some “overbroad” provision upon appeal but his ruling that the law violates the First Amendment free speech rights of the plaintiffs is ridiculous. The law does not stop anyone from saying anything, or joining the anti-human ESG movement. Episode 412 of The VentureFizz Podcast features Nick Leonard, CEO & Co-Founder of VoiceRun. Is voice finally having its moment? For years, it felt like the "promised land" that never quite arrived. But things are different in 2026, in many ways, and from what I've noticed is a shift in consumer behavior where voice is becoming the primary interface. Maybe it's because the technology is so much better for basic commands like speech-to-text, but the next wave of voice AI startups are looking to completely revolutionize the game with agentic voice AI systems that don't just talk, but listen, reason, and take action in real-time. Voice is hard, though. A lot goes into building a platform that truly does voice right and if you don't get it right, whatever app or platform you are building will fail. That's exactly the gap that Nick and his team are bridging. VoiceRun is a developer-first platform for enterprise voice agents. Unlike the low-code, visual tools that often break under the weight of complex business logic, VoiceRun offers a code-first "Foundry" that gives developers the control they need to build secure, reliable, and scalable voice infrastructure. The company recently announced a $5.5M seed round led by Flybridge, with participation from RRE Ventures and Link Ventures. In this episode of our podcast, we cover: * Nick's perspective on the strategic decision for AI startups to build broad platforms versus niche industry solutions. * His journey from Muncie, Indiana, to being a track athlete at MIT and competing in the decathlon. * Getting his start working on F-135 Joint Strike Fighters at Pratt & Whitney, and the lessons learned from his previous startup and leadership roles at Jobcase and Posh Technologies. * The background story of how he and co-founder Derek Caneja landed on a developer-first platform for building enterprise voice agents. * Why they intentionally chose not to put "AI" in the company name or branding. * What truly makes a great Product Manager * And so much more!

12 Now when Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee. 13 He left Nazareth and made his home in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, 14 so that what had been spoken through the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: 15 "Land of Zebulun, land of Naphtali, on the road by the sea, across the Jordan, Galilee of the gentiles— 16 the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned." 17 From that time Jesus began to proclaim, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near." 18 As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea—for they were fishers. 19 And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of people." 20 Immediately they left their nets and followed him. 21 As he went from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them. 22 Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him. 23 Jesus went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing every disease and every sickness among the people.

It's Oscar nominations week, so we're playing catch up as well as slogging through some extremely January movies. We recorded these reviews before Thursday's Academy announcement, so we have a couple of updates for you: Amanda Seyfried didn't get a nomination for "The Testament of Ann Lee," but "Come See Me in the Good Light" did make it into the documentary feature category. Here's what we discussed: MERCY. Chris Pratt is a police detective accused of killing his wife in a futuristic hellscape of Los Angeles. He has 90 minutes to prove his innocence before an AI judge (Rebecca Ferguson) or he'll be executed. We debate exactly what this Amazon release is propaganda for, but agree that it (and Pratt) are terrible. In theaters. THE TESTAMENT OF ANN LEE. Amanda Seyfried IS Ann Lee, found of the Shaker religious movement, in director and co-writer Mona Fastvold's ambitious musical. This had a brief awards run at the end of 2025 and is returning to theaters this weekend. The song and dance numbers are mesmerizing. COME SEE ME IN THE GOOD LIGHT. The late poet Andrea Gibson is the subject of this intimate documentary, which is alternately hilarious and heartbreaking but always stirring. Director Ryan White follows the genderqueer Gibson and their partner as they navigate a lengthy and painful cancer battle, but there's plenty of room for humor and even hope. Streaming on Apple TV. The news of Texas covered today includes:Our Lone Star story of the day: From the Stench Local Government File come stories about local school district irresponsibility in spending and deception when it comes to bond debt issues. The two main stories I mostly work from are: Austin ISD spent $100M in bond money on schools set to close – done more often than you'd think. If upgrades are not spread around all campuses and neighborhoods, people organize to oppose debt election and often some of those people are in areas that insiders already know will close in a few years. McAllen ISD considers $335 million bond for school upgrades, says tax rate would stay the same – remember, a tax rate staying the same is almost a guarantee of annual tax increases when figuring appraisal creep. It also ignores that without issuing the new 30-year debt, taxes could go down significantly. The news of Texas covered today includes:Our Lone Star story of the day: A GOP Lubbock County commissioner race features a candidate and former office holder who demonstrates some of the worst traits of an officeholder: 1) Willing to blatantly lie about his record, and 2) Wanting to be liked more than wanting to do the right thing promised to voters.Way too many people get elected who end up wanting to be liked, a regular human trait, more than they want to be respected for doing what's right or what they promised voters. About the only way to sift through candidates at election time is to look at their record. If they regularly stand up to do the right thing, especially in the face of big opposition, you can generally assume that behavior will continue. It's always a crap shoot with those who have no officeholder or political activist record. Our Lone Star story of the day is sponsored by Allied Compliance Services providing the best service in DOT, business and personal drug and alcohol testing since 1995.Texas employment remains strong with very large number of jobs being created.Listen on the radio, or station stream, at 5pm Central. Princess of Wales Kate Middleton quietly marked her 44th birthday on Jan. 9 — but insiders say Meghan Markle and Prince Harry made no move to acknowledge it, with no call, text, or card, a silence one palace source calls “deliberate.” Meanwhile, in TV news circles, Norah O’Donnell believes her exit from CBS Evening News was only temporary and is angling for a return to the anchor chair. And in Hollywood holiday excess, Chris Pratt is still reacting to an over-the-top Christmas present from father-in-law Arnold Schwarzenegger: a massive six-by-eight-foot portrait of Arnold dressed as Santa, complete with Pratt’s three children peeking out from behind a Christmas tree. 13 Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan, to be baptized by him. 14 John would have prevented him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" 15 But Jesus answered him, "Let it be so now, for it is proper for us in this way to fulfill all righteousness." Then he consented. 16 And when Jesus had been baptized, just as he came up from the water, suddenly the heavens were opened to him and he saw God's Spirit descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from the heavens said, "This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased."
