I'm back, and I brought some friends! Today on Radd's Basement we have a buffet of nerd topics for you to sample. I sit down with Koop and Vallas to first discuss some comic book movies we recently watched. Next, we contrast a couple upcoming sci-fi TV shows (actually REAL sci-fi, like outer space stuff) on the horizon. Finally we talk about the current state of Doctor Who, having watched the most recent episode together. It's full of laughs, shouting and opinions that don't matter! Enjoy won't us?
Back in the saddle for episode 11 of Radd's Basement! I took a break over the past few weeks, because my video game repro shop was looking like a ghost town. So if you take a look over there, a lot of titles are back for sale and more are on the way over the next couple weeks! </shameless_promo>. I've enjoyed a number of television shows over the years, but there's a few in particular that are very near and dear to my heart. One of those is Mystery Science Theater 3000. There's never been another like it, and for sheer comedy value it can't be beat. More laughs per hour (or two hours) than any show you'll ever see. A simple premise, a mad scientist forces some poor dope to watch bad movies. Said dope survives the ordeal by heckling the movies with the help of two robots. Simple right? The charming low-budget look and loveable characters made this one a cult hit in nerd circles, and it ran for 10 years, first on Comedy Central, then moving to Syfy. More recently, the original creator, Joel Hodgson brought it to Kickstater for a revival and achieved success beyond wildest expectations. The result is Mystery Science Theater 3000 is back, with new episodes currently airing on Netflix. So today I get together with some of the biggest MST3K fans I know of, and we talk about this wonderful series, it's history, and the current series.I'm joined by returning guests Mike Vallas & Danyon Carpenter, and the three of us are joined by a new voice, former EGM editor and co-founder of Gaming FM with Danyon and me, Mark (Duckhead) Sarnecki! We talk MST3K, I argue with them about the correct pronunciation of the word "gif", and then the conversation degenerates into old EGM stories as it inevitably does whenever we get together. Sit back, shut up, and enjoy! Also Like on Facebook, and Follow on Twitter.
Thank for tuning into another episode of Radd's Basement! This time I conclude my Doctor Who discussion with Koop and Vallas, digging more specifically into what's going on with Doctor Who right now. Unfortunately the news about Peter Capaldi leaving the show hadn't broke yet so we don't get a chance to discuss it, but I briefly touch on it in my intro. We do talk about how great we think Peter has become, and we'll definitely miss him as the Doctor. We also discuss the differences between showrunners Russell T. Davies and Steven Moffat, Torchwood, as well as favorite companions, seasons, and episodes. What else? WHO can say? Enjoy!
Thanks for coming back for another episode of Radd's Basement! This week we take a break from the drudgery of listening to old men reminisce about their past as EGM editors. Today it's me sans guest discussing some things I've got going on! I thought it would be nice for the two of us to have some time together... Okay the truth is the snow prevented me from getting to my guest this week. So it's a SNOW DAY! I considered cancelling the show until next week, but you know, I think those of you who show up here every two weeks deserve a podcast! So here it is, Episode 6 wherein I discuss my love of video game soundtracks on vinyl, my new video capture card, and the NES Classic. It's short, it's sweet, and it's better than a root canal! Please enjoy.
This week's episode of Former EGM Editors: The Podcast... er, I mean, Radd's Basement: Nerd Culture Podcast, features one of the greats of the gaming genre. He's a former EGM editor whose specific focus was video game tricks, codes and strategies. He's also the current co-owner of Pixel Blast Arcade in Lisle, IL, pfft, whatever, no big deal. He's Trickman Terry, A.K.A. Terry Minnich! An expert in all things gaming, (both console and arcade) as well as nerd extraordinaire, we had a "Blast" (get it? see what I did there?) discussing Terry's origins in nerdery, our time at EGM, (we were hired the same day) as well as what it takes to run an arcade. We laughed, we ate way too much pizza and we hope you enjoy what we had to say as much as we enjoyed saying it! Here's Episode 5 of Radd's Basement (which took place in Terry's basement)!
Andy is joined by Ray Price from Radd's Basement to celebrate Batman Day 2016 by discussing the Caped Crusader on all fronts, from video games and Batman '66 to Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond.
