De noche, él y Joker robaban cable de cobre para venderlo en chatarrerías que abrían de madrugada.   Una de esas noches, Chino abrió una bolsa de basura buscando algo de valor. Adentro encontró el cuerpo de una mujer. Salió corriendo. Nunca lo reportó. Dos semanas después lo detuvieron.   El delito: robo en lugar cerrado con violencia en una cafetería. Su cómplice: Adriana, una mujer de 38 años que lo había conocido en la calle y con quien vivió seis meses. Era la única persona que en esos años le dio algo parecido a un hogar. Cuando los atraparon, Adriana se escondió. La golpearon pensando que era hombre porque tenía el cabello corto. Chino les dijo que era mujer. Dejaron de golpearla. Holy Aerosol Spray, Batman! Gotham's on drugs!  This week we're diving into Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight (2008), both directed by Christopher Nolan, and what starts as a straightforward celebration of two of the greatest superhero movies ever made ends up going places we may or may not have wanted to go. We celebrate Cillian Murphy's Scarecrow for committing city-wide chemical warfare before casually going back to selling drugs like the most overqualified pharmacist in comic book history.Seriously. Imagine turning an entire city into a nightmare hallucination... and then showing back up six months later like:"Hey guys... anybody need drugs?"AND PEOPLE BUY THEM.We harp on why Wayne Enterprises invested millions into developing a wrist-mounted Van Opener™, memory-cloth capes, and sonar surveillance technology instead of, you know... starting with functioning neck mobility. Somewhere in Gotham, Lucius Fox is trying to cure cancer while Bruce Wayne keeps asking if his grappling hook can also be used as a can opener.  Then we arrive at The Dark Knight, where Heath Ledger's Joker once again reminds us that he isn't just one of the greatest comic book villains ever put on film—he's a sleep paralysis demon that somehow learned improv comedy. We refuse to believe Joker's bank robbery happened without seventeen planning meetings, four whiteboards, three Google Calendars, a shared Dropbox folder, and at least one henchman getting yelled at because the shipment of bazooka's weren't delivered before lunch.There had to be a clown accountant.There HAD to be.Elsewhere we celebrate Mark Hamill's legendary Joker, Jack Nicholson, discuss Barry Keoghan, not-so-politely acknowledge Jared Leto's... attempt... gush over Batman: The Animated Series, the Harley Quinn animated series, question Gothamites incredible inability to recognize billionaires wearing armor, and wonder how on earth did Batman get in that interrogation room. THE JOKER / STEVE MILLER, (CAPITOL, 1973)“The Pompatus of Love,” a nonsense phrase that Steve Miller cribbed from “The Letter,” a doo-wop song by the Medallions from 1958, entered the popular culture lexicon in 1973, when this Apostle of guitar consistency applied it to spread his Joker gospel, and ascended to Rock n Roll Godhead. It's been used for the title of a movie starring Jon Cryer, and is included in the writings of Dave Barry, Steven King, and Michael Ondaatje - even though its meaning remains obscure.We all sang along knowingly with: “I'm a Joker, I'm a smoker, I'm a midnight toker…”, and when the leering slide goes “Woop Woo,” we all played air guitar right along.  It's a rudimentary 1-4-5 chord sequence like thousands of other songs, and it's filled with references from other tunes, such as Ahmet Ertegun's Lovey Dovey, and Miller's own Space Cowboy and Gangster of Love, but no matter - The Joker is original gold and unforgettable. The guy is ornery, and has a right to be. I think Miller, a blues man since his teens, is underrated because of all the pop records he sold. I saw him twice - 50 years apart - and he's still as rock solid on his axe and voice as he was back then - a master at his craft. And, although he was inducted into the Rock n Roll hall, they only gave him one ticket to attend, and he rightfully blasted the institution to the press. Respect must be paid to The Joker.
