My love for bad movies and Mystery Science Theater 3000 has come to torment Chris once again! This is one of my absolute favorite episodes of that show but i'd never seen the movie un-riffed and since we did Man-Thing and Swamp Thing, I figured this would be a good conclusion to our "Swamp Trilogy!" What happens when a mad scientist turns himself into a walking catfish and plans on creating fish the size they've never seen before?!? Come check us out and see! IS MONSTER PARTY HAVIN' A LAUGH? JAMES GONIS, SHAWN SHERIDAN, LARRY STROTHE, and MATT WEINHOLD ponder the age-old question of whether humor and genre topics can live and laugh comfortably together. So, as Elvis Costello might ask… WHAT'S SO FUNNY ABOUT HORROR, SCI-FI, AND FANTASY? Let's face it, making a truly funny horror, sci-fi, or fantasy film or television show can be tricky business. There's a fine line between a loving send-up and an uninformed attack. And even with the best intentions, that doesn't guarantee you'll be watching a knee-slapper. In this side-splitting study of genre jocularity, MONSTER PARTY puts all their funny favorites (and not-so-favorites) to the test. How did films like ABBOTT & COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN and YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN manage to find the sweet spot between over-the-top comedy and a loving homage to Universal horror films? Is SPACEBALLS a better film than we remember, or should we just push that reassessment aside and watch GALAXY QUEST instead? How do genre TV shows like RED DWARF and WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS generate laughs while presenting often thought-provoking horror and sci-fi concepts? Where do cult classics like DR. STRANGELOVE, REPO MAN, MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL, and THE ADVENTURES OF BUCKAROO BANZAI fit in? And are superhero vehicles like THE BOYS, PEACEMAKER, and the DEADPOOL film series the best comedies coming out of Hollywood today? Helping us answer these important questions while tickling our ribs in her own right is a return guest who is no stranger to the world of horror, sci-fi, and fantasy humor. She is a mega-talented writer who has worked on such beloved genre comedy projects as MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 and HANGING WITH DR. Z. Please welcome back… TAMMY GOLDEN! OH, AND YES, WE DID JUST WIN THE 2026 RONDO AWARD FOR BEST PODCAST! OUR HEARTFELT THANKS TO ALL THE MONSTER PARTIERS OUT THERE WHO HELPED MAKE THIS HAPPEN! NOW, LET'S START CANVASSING FOR 2027!

Mystery Science Theater 3000 The Movie Starring Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett, and Kevin Murphy Dr. Clayton Forrester (Trace Beaulieu) figures he can rule the world if he deadens his subjects' brains by making them endure terrible movies. Exploiting his access to nearby satellite-dwellers Mike Nelson (Michael J. Nelson) and his robot pals, Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo (Kevin Murphy), Forrester makes them watch a cheesy 1950s spaceship film. But when Mike and friends make funny comments throughout the movie and others that follow it, Forrester's plan looks increasingly flimsy.
http://www.UnderThePuppet.com - Jim LoGiudice began his career making props and models for films such as The Abyss, Con Air, The Rocketeer, and Armageddon. He made the move to puppetry though his church and started developing the characters and the show that would become Far Outpost, which performs weekly at Granite Creek Church in Claremont, California. I talk to Jim LoGiudice about the development of Far Outpost, the building of the puppets on the show, their crazy special effects, and more on this episode of Under The Puppet. One quick note. You have to call your friends once in a while and see how they're doing, especially if they're undergoing big changes and their city has been rocked with upheaval. Twin Cities-based actor and writer Bill Corbett will always be associated with Crow T. Robot, the wisecracking robotic commentator on bad films on Mystery Science Theater 3000. It's a part he played for many years and a part he'll be playing all over again as MST3K is in the process of a reuniting or sort of merger with Rifftrax, the comedy troupe he formed with Mike Nelson and Kevin Murphy. He and fellow Minnesotan/host John Moe share thoughts on the ICE surge and the heartening coming together of community that grew out of it. ALSO! In a conversation originally broadcast on the Geekscape YouTube Channel, Christian Bladt and Eric Conner are joined by Kevin Brennan of A Pickle Home Companion to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie. Each of them also share their favorite episodes from the series.
We're delighted to welcome the actor, writer, web celebrity (celwebrity?) Felicia Day back to the program as part of our ongoing effort to reach out to friends and just ask how they're doing. You might know her from The Guild, the web series she created, or from Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Mystery Science Theater 3000. Felicia has a new graphic novel, Lost Daughter of Sparta, and says she always does a little better when she can break out of the Hollywood idea of how she should be used and steer toward the person she would rather be, making the things she wants to make. It's a warm, friendly conversation with a delightful guest. OH AND ALSO HEY: The annual Max Fun Drive has begun, which means you can hear extra special BONUS CONTENT like our all-new All-Star Sad Songs That Make You Feel Better, featuring Neko Case, Gavin Rossdale, and more. What is it like to create a Shakespeare play that's never been written—and will never be performed again? The Improvised Shakespeare Company is a long-running ensemble that performs entirely unscripted plays in the style of Shakespeare. Founded in Chicago in 2005, the company has spent two decades building a devoted following through performances in the United States and internationally. In this episode, Blaine Swen, the company's founder, and Ross Bryant discuss how their performances take shape in real time, beginning with a single audience-suggested title and unfolding into a full-length play that will never be repeated. Drawing on techniques from long-form improvisation and a deep familiarity with Shakespeare's language, structure, and themes, the ensemble creates stories that balance poetry, comedy, spontaneity, and lots of fun. They reflect on what makes Shakespeare particularly well-suited to improv, from his larger-than-life characters and emotional intensity to the flexibility of his language and cultural references. They also explore the mechanics of their process—how they listen, build on each other's ideas, and embrace mistakes as opportunities—and why committing fully to the moment often leads to the most surprising and meaningful results. He also talks about plans that include sending three more warships and thousands more troops to take the strategic fuel depot on Kharg Island. The crossover continues as I join Sal Crivelli for Part Two, where the conversation zeroes in on specific creative flashpoints in current comics, and a shared love of pop-culture comfort food. We compare Joe Kelly's and Zeb Wells' respective runs on Amazing Spider-Man, breaking down what worked, what frustrated readers, and why Spidey remains one of the toughest characters to steer long-term. We also look ahead to the upcoming Superman/Spider-Man crossovers by Mark Waid and Brad Meltzer, and why these projects feel like a genuine event rather than a nostalgia cash-in. On the DC side, we talk about the strong momentum behind DC KO and the DC Absolute lines, why those initiatives are connecting with readers, and what they suggest about DC's current editorial confidence. And because not everything has to be a debate, we wrap by bonding over our mutual love of Mystery Science Theater 3000, celebrating the joy of smart riffing, bad movies, and shared fandom.

This edition of the IPS DEPROGRAM, recorded on February 2, 2026, explores the intersections of ancient holidays, systemic media deception, and the "manufacturing of history" through space programs and entertainment. The host argues that the public is being conditioned through predictive programming and manufactured news events to accept a controlled, "hyper-reality".The Ritual of Groundhog Day and Candlemas: The host connects Groundhog Day to the Christian holiday Candlemas and the pagan holiday Imbolc, marking the midpoint between the solstices. He dismisses the groundhog as a "ceremonial prop," claiming the weather outcome is actually determined by a human committee.Moon Mission Skepticism (Artemis II vs. Apollo): Drawing a parallel between the current Artemis II mission and the Apollo missions, the host questions why modern space agencies lack the confidence to land on the moon today if they achieved it decades ago. He posits that the original missions were "manufactured miracles" and that NASA is currently waiting for more sophisticated generative AI and LED technology to pull off a more convincing fake landing.Predictive Programming and Fictional Counterparts: The broadcast analyzes how world leaders and events are foreshadowed in movies. For instance, characters in films like The Madness or Megalopolis are seen as media counterparts to figures like Elon Musk and Donald Trump, used to habituate the public to specific narratives like assassinations or "mind viruses".The Rebrand of "Trutherville" and Content Theft: The host critiques the "alt-media" ecosystem, specifically targeting "content thieves" on platforms like X who regurgitate information from smaller channels without credit. He emphasizes the need for a new branch of media outside of both controlled mainstream and alternative outlets.Systemic Fakery and Psychological Condition: A significant portion of the show discusses how hoaxes—such as the Charlie Kirk "assassination" event—are used as litmus tests for public discernment. The host argues that the public is trapped in a "Mystery Science Theater 3000" scenario, forced to watch "bad science fiction" until they lose their ability to distinguish reality from theatre."Obviously, the groundhog is just a ceremonial prop. It doesn't really determine anything. It's just tradition.""My theory as to why they haven't landed on the moon again in all these decades is that the rear screen projection wouldn't fool anybody today.""History is lies agreed upon... Space with its angels, which we call aliens, is an acceptable version of heaven that everybody agrees on.""The correct answer is entertainment is synchronized with fake news events... they're manufacturing history.""We're collectively in the Mystery Science Theater 3000. Forced by evil scientists to watch bad B-movies until we break."Clarifying Question: Are you looking for a more detailed analysis of the specific "number codes" mentioned (like 33 and 113) for a research project, or should I focus on the media deconstruction aspect for a general summary?Topic BreakdownNotable Quotes
This time John's monologue is about The Justice Dept releasing millions more pages related to Jeffrey Epstein, revealing more casual ties to Trump and Trumpworld goons like Howard Lutnick and Elon Musk, who both denied having any involvement with Epstein in the decade before his death. TRACE BEAULIEU is a comic actor, writer, and performer. He was a founding member of the Emmy-nominated, Peabody Award-winning, cult hit show, Mystery Science Theater 3000. In addition to writing, occasionally directing, designing and building sets and props, Trace performed the puppet character Crow T. Robot, and mad scientist Dr. Clayton Forrester. He repeated these roles in…
It's been a helluva year, y'all. So it's time to focus on family, good friends, and getting wine drunk till the reindeers come home. That's right we watched A Vienyard Christmas. So get ready for your Mystery Science Theater style interactive movie night. Get the movie ready (netflix) and hit play when we say and find out if this Christmas movie will have secret murders, people turning into reindeer, and/or so many love triangles they invent a new shape (Ok, maybe we just have vivid imaginations). Happy holidays from your Is It for Reel Family!!!!!!!!!
We're wishing stoners young and old out there a joyous Season's Greetings with our BONKERS HOLIDAZE SPECIAL. Philena still hasn't seen WICKED: FOR GOOD but we got more than enough witches and weirdness for her with THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ from 1910, a silent wonder which condenses Dorothy's entire journey into just 13 baffling minutes! What this early (but not first) version of THE WIZARD OF OZ lacks in coherence, it more than makes up for with stoniness. Glinda turns Toto into a strange dog-beast, and the flying monkeys are replaced with a bat-winged frog nightmare! We not only tell you what to smoke with this one but also what to put on your playlist while you enjoy the confusion. THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ is public domain so it's streaming on YouTube, Archive and even TikTok! And speaking of barely coherent, our main feature is SANTA CLAUS, a brain-melting oddity from Mexico in 1959 where Santa Claus and Merlin must stop a pantaloons-clad Devil from wrecking Christmas. If you put this fantasia on at your family holiday gathering instead of LOVE ACTUALLY or whatever the normies watch this time of year, grandma will feel like she's stoned even if she doesn't have a medical marijuana prescription. This psychiatric experiment was directed by René Cardona, who later gave us such gruesome classics as NIGHT OF THE BLOODY APES (1969) and the cannibalism epic SURVIVE! (1976). Another public domain gem, so it's streaming everywhere but the print that's on Tubi is the best. We suggest watching with a crowd, but if the male loneliness epidemic has you down, here's the MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 episode that Cory watched: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTWs3zvz1z4 We also talk about the Netflix merger with Warner Bros (but recorded it before the Ellisons got involved), the short-lived CASABLANCA TV series from the 80s, Greg watching BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS (1980) on his new mammoth 4K TV and ZOOTOPIA 2. Happy New Year's everybody and see you back in February 2026! The latest episode of the Brand X Podcast is a rollicking, unfiltered round table that mixes sharp-witted humor, pop culture banter, and no-apologies storytelling. John, Deuce, Joe, and guest Duchess dive right in with a tongue-in-cheek debate about whether “Jingle Bells” is racist, riffing on recent controversies and the ever-rotating cycle of outrage culture. The gang quickly segues into reminiscence, sharing memories of classic comedians like Steve Landisberg, Buddy Hackett, and Jonathan Winters, and the golden age of late-night TV, from Johnny Carson to Ed McMahon.Thanksgiving traditions spark a round of stories about turkey preferences, divorced Thanksgivings, and the nostalgic power of lasagna at family tables. The group doesn't shy away from discussing cancel culture, DEI, and workplace politics, exploring how labels are weaponized and how the shifting sands of social power shape them.Popcorn-worthy tangents abound: there's talk of horror movies, Mystery Science Theater 3000, and the cult-classic Dawn of the Dead mall. Book recommendations like Fahrenheit 451 and Lord of the Flies are peppered throughout, alongside playful debates about audiobooks versus actual paperbacks, sparking laughs and confessions about reading habits. As the drinks flow, so do tales from the trenches of off-duty strippers, memorable customers, the saga of pricey coffee beans, and the eternal struggle of wires and tech setups. The hosts share hot takes on Hollywood, musical films, and the transformation of TV staples, from Game of Thrones to The Producers.Amidst ribbing and camaraderie, the episode captures the chemistry of longtime friends: roast sessions, ball-busting, and self-aware observations about aging, food, and reunion dynamics. As always, the crew wraps with plans for the next episode—and a promise of more raucous stories, inside jokes, and explicit, laugh-out-loud commentary.

The Black Guardian Trilogy comes to an end in Enlightenment with a space race on Edwardian-inspired ships, where a dominatrix threatens Turlough, a creepy Eternal hits on Tegan, and the Black and White Guardians end as they started this three-story run: disappointingly. Still, it gives Anthony an opportunity to utter: “step on me, Mommy!” Just wow. Unsurprisingly, we discuss the sartorial choices of the two Guardians (and which ones Reilly and Anthony will respectively cosplay), how “Officer Creepy” made Julie want to take a shower, the joys of sailing ships in space, the correct pronunciation of “buoy,” Captain Wrack's rack (obviously), and how Nietzsche fits into all this… and speaking of philosophy, we have a rousing debate on the ethics of throwing an Eternal into the cold vacuum of space… If you would like to watch along with us, you can find this story available for streaming on Britbox in the USA (http://www.britbox.com) and BBC iPlayer in the UK (https://bbc.in/48GSaCB). Fifty years after it first terrified — and amused — audiences, “The Giant Spider Invasion” is crawling back onto the screen. The cult classic about extraterrestrial, blood thirty spiders was filmed in the Gleason, Wisconsin area and is beloved by campy horror fans. It even got the Mystery Science Theater 3000 treatment. Now, “The Giant Spider Invasion” is being reimagined for its 50th anniversary, with new scenes filmed in northern Wisconsin and a theater release around Halloween. Dan Davies is a Wisconsin native himself who has been cast as the lead actor in the new footage. He talked with WPR’s Shereen Siewert about the film.
This week, my guest is the legendary FRANK CONNIFF (of Mystery Science Theater 3000 fame!!!), who picked the equally legendary Jacques Demy film, The Young Girls Of Rochefort!, to discuss as his music film!!We discuss Frank's introduction into the MST3K world, how their show grew through grass roots and tape trading, the process of how MST3K would put together a show every week, the lack of cable tv in the US when their show first came on, how MST3K felt like being in a band for Frank, how he picked the films for their show and what the failsafes for jokes were, Ed Wood, can a movie like The Young Girls Of Rochefort get riffed on, actor Jack Webb's anti-hippie stance, The Umbrellas Of Cherbourg, Criterion laser discs, Frank accidentally coming across Rochefort on tv, how Demy's films could transport you emotionally with just a color, the incredible Michele Legrand score that is relentlessly non-stop fantastic, how the film casually drops in a serial killer storyline, Catherine Deneuve and her real-life sister Françoise Dorléac's performances in the film together, West Side Story and actor George Chakiris, how they shot two different versions of Rochefort at the same time (one in French and one in English), how sexy everyone looks in the film, the surprise of Gene Kelly showing up in this film and his later fllm roles including Viva Knievel & Xandau and more!So let's turn around on a moment's notice and suddenly leap into the air as soon as someone beautiful has just passed us on the street on this week's Revolutions Per Movie!!!FRANK CONNIFF: https://frankconniff.com/https://dumb-industries.com/themadsarebackhttps://dumb-industries.com/store/books/frank-conniffYOUNG GIRLS OF ROCHEFORT: French Language Version: https://archive.org/details/the-young-girls-of-rochefortEnglish Language Version (rare workprint found of part of the film): https://archive.org/details/the-young-girls-of-rochefort-english-reelREVOLUTIONS PER MOVIE:Host Chris Slusarenko (Eyelids, Guided By Voices, owner of Clinton Street Video rental store) is joined by actors, musicians, comedians, writers & directors who each week pick out their favorite music documentary, musical, music-themed fiction film or music videos to discuss. Earlier this year, our Patreon supporters unlocked a new milestone, and with it a new annual BONUS bonus episode: This Week In Historical TV! Around The Dial takes us through some highlights of our week in programming: the series premiere of Herman's Head; an all-timer Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode on Gamera vs. Guiron; Parker Lewis Can't Lose; and the Merlin Olsen-hosted Fantastic Facts.
