In this special episode of In Touch With iOS, Dave Ginsburg and Jeff Gamet welcome Don McAllister to discuss the history of Screencasts Online, his transition to semi-retirement, and his new app Wedding Player. Don shares how the app was inspired by his daughter's wedding and explains its offline Apple Music integration, ceremony-focused controls, AI-assisted development process, and future plans for iPhone, iPad, Android, and professional wedding venues. Don reflects on the origins of Screencasts Online back in 2005, explaining how it began as a hobby after he originally planned to launch a Mac audio podcast. Instead, he discovered the power of video tutorials and quickly found an audience eager to learn more about the Mac ecosystem. He shares stories about the early days of podcasting and online video creation, describing how he slowly transformed the project from free tutorials into a successful premium service while still maintaining a passion for helping Apple users learn new technology. The discussion then shifts to the transition of Screencasts Online to Lee Garrett. Don explains why it was important for him to hand the platform to someone who already understood the community and culture that had been built over nearly two decades. He talks about how Lee's experience, technical background, and long history creating tutorials made the transition smooth for both subscribers and contributors. Don also reveals he still contributes occasional tutorials and monthly articles while remaining available behind the scenes for advice and support. A major focus of the episode centers on Don's newest project, Wedding Player. The idea came directly from helping organize music for his daughter Nicola's wedding. Frustrated with the limitations of existing music playback solutions and concerned about reliability during a live ceremony, Don decided to create his own dedicated app. He explains how Wedding Player organizes music into "moments" for different sections of a ceremony, supports fade controls between songs, includes loop functionality, and uses simplified "Go Live" controls designed to prevent mistakes during high-pressure events. Don also details the extensive safeguards built into the app. Wedding Player works fully offline, integrates with Apple Music through MusicKit, supports local audio files, and includes pre-flight checks to verify downloaded tracks, airplane mode settings, and device readiness before a ceremony begins. He discusses the importance of reliability and explains how the app was intentionally designed to reduce the chance of user error. The conversation also highlights the inclusion of royalty-free "Wedding Player Originals" tracks for users who do not subscribe to Apple Music. Jeff and Dave explore how Don used AI tools, particularly Claude, to accelerate development of the app and even build an Android version after discovering significant demand from wedding professionals using Android devices. Don shares how AI dramatically shortened the development timeline and how he now sees AI as a powerful platform for building software and systems rather than simply a chatbot. The panel also discusses accessibility improvements, large-text UI challenges, venue support, future iCloud syncing plans, and professional features designed for wedding venues and officiants. Finally, Don shares pricing details, future roadmap ideas, and where listeners can find Wedding Player online. The Business of Music.mastered. pulls back the curtain on the music industry, with real conversations about labels, touring, booking, and what it actually takes to build a career as an artist. It's all about giving you practical, real-world advice from people working in the business every day. We're excited to share this episode with you, and don't worry. We'll be back with our regular On The Porch format next week. You can also head over to the mastered. feed to catch the rest of the series.Patrick Guay is a booker and promoter based in Montreal who works with Evenko, one of Canada's leading live entertainment companies. He's behind some of the biggest festivals in the country, including Lasso, Osheaga, and Ilesoniq, as well as roughly 1,600 shows a year across arenas and clubs throughout Quebec and Atlantic Canada. In this episode, Patrick and Jenna dig into what it actually takes to get booked on a major festival stage and why most artists aren't thinking about it the right way. They talk about how bookers evaluate artists, why ticket sales matter more than social media numbers, the importance of building your market from the ground up, and what a realistic path to a big stage actually looks like. Patrick also shares how he got his start in the industry, what he looks for when an artist pitches him, and why relationships and reputation go a long way in a music scene as small as Canada's.If you've ever wondered how to get on a festival lineup, or whether you're actually ready, this one is a must-listen.For more support with your music career, visit www.masteredbyfp.com.mastered. by Front Porch Music is a Front Porch Production, hosted by Logan Miller and Jenna Weishar. mastered. by Front Porch Music is produced by Logan Miller, Jenna Weishar, and Jason Saunders. “If you play piano, bass guitar, saxophone, I don't care - I'll play with you all night. That's how I did it. And I tell all my grandkids - get an event, get a few of your schoolmates together. They're practising and playing by themselves. Get with people!”Regan Morris speaks to musician Ringo Starr about his career. Born in Liverpool, England, during the Second World War in 1940, Ringo, real-name Richard Starkey, found fame as the drummer of the legendary British band The Beatles - widely regarded as one of the most influential acts in music history. After joining John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison in 1962, the four-piece became a global pop music sensation through hits such as ‘She Loves You', ‘Yesterday', ‘Penny Lane', and ‘Hey Jude'. They also released multiple studio albums and starred in five major motion pictures.Although the band split up in 1970, their legacy continues to live on. They remain one of the best-selling musical acts of all time over half a century later. And such was his and the band's cultural impact, that Ringo, one of two surviving members of The Beatles, received a knighthood at Buckingham Palace for his services to music in 2018.But despite achieving seemingly all that can be achieved in a music career, the 85-year-old seems to be showing no interest in retirement — he's just released his third country album, which is his 22nd album as a solo artist. Today's guest is the Irish troubadour who sold out arenas across the world and built one of the most durable careers in modern music, entirely on his own terms. From Dublin street corners and busking for strangers to headlining Madison Square Garden, this conversation is about what that actually costs to build the slow, deliberate construction of a career that answers to no one, yet resonates with millions around the world. He carries three things simultaneously that most artists never figure out how to hold at once: the ambition of someone who was never going to settle for Ireland only, the sensitivity of a songwriter who writes for his whole community, and the creative instincts of a kid who grew up on hip hop and folk and refused to let either one fully win. This is one of the more honest conversations about what a creative life actually looks like from the inside — not the version that gets posted, the version that gets lived. And The Writer Is... On Episode 147 of the Guest Speaker Series, we are joined by rising hip-hop artist KSAP! Currently a senior at Medford High School, KSAP is the youngest guest we have ever had on the show, as well as the youngest artist to be nominated for a Boston Music Award this past December for his music video “100 Miles”. Despite not taking home the award, KSAP reflects on what he still feels like is a win and a huge achievement, especially as he got accepted to Berklee College of Music shortly after. KSAP discusses what he hopes to learn there, as well as his goals for his future in music. KSAP also shares the deep connections he's made in Medford, particularly within the high school community, and talks at length about the support he's received throughout his young music career. He also praises his mother & grandparents for their encouragement and credits them for helping him become the young man and artist he is today. KSAP & Mike also reflect on the Boston music scene as whole, discussing what KSAP believes is a lack of mutual support amongst creatives, and how to potentially navigate the landscape and create positive change within the culture. Note: This episode was originally released on June 7, 2023.Over the last two episodes, I told you the story of Alexavier Pedrin, whose six years were marred by family turmoil, alleged abuse and neglect, and CPS involvement. On February 11, 2023, Alexavier was found dead in his family's rented home in Medary, Wisconsin with multiple inflicted injuries and Xanax in his system. Three months later, his father's girlfriend, 31-year-old Josie Dikeman, was finally arrested and charged with Alexavier's murder. For this episode, I had the honor of speaking with two close members of Alexavier's maternal family: his cousin, Raven Holzer, and his aunt, Annie Anderson, who are dedicated to keeping Alexavier's memory alive, giving him a voice, and protecting other kids like Alexavier. This is part three of the infuriating story of Alexavier Pedrin. *Note: This episode was originally released on May 30, 2023.In 2011, 19-year-old Josie Dikeman was accused of child neglect after her boyfriend's one-year-old daughter suffered a skull fracture and a brain injury in her care. That charge was dropped. Two years later, she was convicted in a separate child neglect case regarding the same little girl, by then age three, who had been returned from foster care only to become malnourished and suffer fractured hands and feet while in Josie and her boyfriend's care. After Josie moved in with her new boyfriend, Derek Pedrin, forming a large, blended family with seven children, loved ones began reporting concerns that Josie was abusing or neglecting Derek's son, Alexavier. Derek and Josie began refusing to let Alexavier's maternal family see him. On February 10 of this year, police performed a welfare check at the family's request, finding Alexavier asleep and very drowsy, but supposedly fine. Fifteen hours later, police returned to the home, where six-year-old Alexavier was pronounced dead. This is part one of the infuriating story of Alexavier Pedrin. The guest on this episode of The Back of the Range is Matt Vogt, a dentist and accomplished mid-amateur golfer who earned one of the most memorable stories in 2025: qualifying for and competing in the U.S. Open at Oakmont. The conversation covers Vogt’s journey from a modest upbringing in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, to his college golf days at Butler University, and his later-life resurgence into competitive amateur golf. He recounts his U.S. Open Qualifying experience, the emotional significance of his late father during that run, and the whirlwind aftermath of suddenly finding himself part of golf’s biggest stage. Vogt offers candid reflections on balancing a demanding professional career in dentistry with elite-level amateur competition, sharing how he relies on supportive colleagues and flexible scheduling to make it work. He opens up about nerves, lessons learned, and the surreal experience of teeing off at Oakmont in front of thousands—a moment where adrenaline met disbelief. The discussion also touches on broader themes in amateur golf: the evolution of college recruiting, the rising standard of competition, the mid-amateur “fraternity,” and the ongoing debate about reinstated former professionals competing in mid-am events. The conversation ends lightheartedly, with banter about future tournaments like the Gasparilla Invitational and the Jones Cup, showing Vogt’s grounded personality and enthusiasm for competing with his peers. In my thirteenth episode, I shared the story of 10-month-old Marion Jester-Montoya, an adorable and joyful little girl with a head full of dark hair and an ever-present smile. Marion died on January 7, 2020, after her mother's boyfriend, Trevor Rowe, decided that instead of leaving Marion with his mother for the day like he usually did, he would stuff the baby into a backpack and leave her in the trunk of his car all day. Now, I'm re-telling Marion's story from start to finish, including every update I've come across since the original episode. Most importantly, this re-telling involves Marion's family, as it should have from the beginning. This is the heartbreaking story of Marion Jester Montoya.Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. By supporting me on Patreon, you'll also access rewards, including a shout-out by name on the podcast and exclusive rewards. On Episode 143 of the Guest Speaker series, we welcome Connecticut's very own 4KPHIL. to the show! 4KPHIL. is a hip-hop artist who's steadily been making a name for himself in New England and beyond, including his track “Young Picasso” (produced by soupy2k) being featured on NBA2K22, as well as single “Truancy” found its way on multiple editorial playlists and has amassed over half a million streams on Spotify alone. 4KPHIL. sits down with Mike to have one of the most candid conversations the podcast has seen so far this year. 4KPHIL. shares a deeply personal story about being the victim of gun violence, one that he has seldom shared publicly before. Ultimately that experience shifted his life forever as he completely put all of his efforts into music from there on out, and has never looked back. From there, 4KPHIL. & Mike have an open and honest conversation about their views regarding gun violence in America in general. The guys also touch on some lighter topics, including 4KPHIL. becoming a father and the impact his son has on his life and music career, as well as the collective of artists and creatives based in Minnesota known as Paperjack Productions whom he has formed an important bond with. They also discuss some of 4KPHIL's experiences in Minnesota which include his favorite spots on Eat Street, riding a mechanical bull at the Mall of America, his strong stance on Drake as an artist, and so much more. Suffer the Little Children
Episode 204: Long-Term Effects of Child Abuse (with Kate Russell)

Research has long shown that child abuse and neglect can and often do lead to a wide range of negative effects on a person's life, including mental, physical, and behavioral problems. This kind of treatment during childhood causes stress that alters the way the child's brain develops, affects gene expression, and changes the body's stress response system. Kate Russell is the author of three memoirs about her life, describing her painful experiences in detail, from living with a schizoaffective sister to suffering addiction and subsequently recovering. Her most recent book, Ironing Out My Life: Child Abuse and How It Affected Everything Thereafter, is the third in the series and tells the story of her parents' upbringing, then hers, and the impact their abusive behavior had on her life.Kate is a strong, intelligent, highly resilient survivor, and it was my honor to speak with her for this episode. Links related to this episode:Kate Russell's Amazon author page: https://www.amazon.com/stores/author/B0878ZJK7Q Portrait of a Dysfunctional Family series: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DPY4BFCYDown the Rabbit Hole: A Memoir of Abuse, Addiction, and Recovery (first book): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08785R8S6Voicemails from My Sister: Stories of a Schizoaffective Sibling (second book): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B099Y8HF5QIroning Out My Life: Child Abuse and How It Affected Everything Thereafter (third book): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0DPM92KW9 Cover photo by Zhivko Minkov on Unsplash.Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. By supporting me on Patreon, you'll also access rewards, including a shout-out by name on the podcast and exclusive rewards. If you've listened to this show for any length of time, and most likely even if you haven't, you know the US legal system all too often fails domestic abuse survivors, especially women, children, and adolescents. My guest, Professor Dale Margolin Cecka, knows it all too well. Professor Cecka is an advocate for women, children, and teens who have survived domestic abuse. Not only that, but she's also a law professor, former Superior Court senior staff attorney, former Assistant Attorney General of Georgia, and the Director of Albany Law School's Family Violence Litigation Clinic. For this episode, I talked with Professor Cecka about her experience and expertise, and many related topics. I think you'll enjoy this fascinating conversation as much as I did!Links related to this episode:Professor Cecka's recent article in The Imprint: https://imprintnews.org/opinion/new-york-gov-kathy-hochul-can-fix-anonymous-reporting-problem/264606“Inequity in Child Custody Legislation”: https://academicworks.cuny.edu/clr/vol20/iss1/8/ “Improper Delegation of Judicial Authority in Child Custody Cases: Finally Overturned”: https://scholarship.richmond.edu/law-faculty-publications/1425/ USA Today op-ed on the Diddy case: https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2025/06/02/diddy-trial-cassie-macron-slapped-wife-domestic-violence/83924410007/ Cover photo by charlesdeluvio on Unsplash.Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. By supporting me on Patreon, you'll also access rewards, including a shout-out by name on the podcast and exclusive rewards. Over the last two episodes, I've told you the story of five-year-old Dennis Vaughan Jr., known affectionately as “Boo,” who died in his grandmother's house on Christmas Eve, 2019. Boo's mom, Danielle Vaughan, fought to regain custody of her five kids, all of whom were under the guardianship of Danielle's mother, Sherry Conner. Despite dozens of reports to DCYF, all alleging that Sherry was abusing her grandkids, they weren't removed from her care until after Boo died. Now, you'll hear my conversation with Danielle, who was candid, raw, and honest as she told me about the abuse and the trauma her kids endured in Sherry's home. The details she shared had my jaw on the floor, and after you hear what Danielle has to say, I'm positive you'll be as horrified as I am.This is part three of the heartbreaking story of Dennis “Boo” Vaughan Jr.Justice for Dennis “Boo” Vaughan Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/profile/100090309441118/ Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. By supporting me on Patreon, you'll also access rewards, including a shout-out by name on the podcast and exclusive rewards.
