God’s covenant with Abraham shows that keeping the law can never replace trusting in Christ.

The law that came centuries after the promise to Abraham cannot change the promise. The promise was that a singular male descendant would be a blessing to the world. That descendant was even predicted in Jewish writings to make us righteous because of His righteousness. That man was of course Jesus!

The Law and the Promise
A promise is a promise.

1. Law or Promise? - Both! - But the Promise came first (and still stands) 2. So why the Law? - It Defines our sin - It Exposes our sin - It Restrains our sin - It Reveals our Helplessness in the face of sin 3. Therefore... - You're a sinner - You need a Saviour - And you've got one. He's called Jesus
Paul pleads with the Galatians to see the superiority of the covenant of promise over the covenant of the law.
In this passage Paul continues his heartfelt appeal to the Galatians to turn back from trusting in their own works to find approval with God instead of trusting in the finished work of Christ. He explains that we were never meant to trust in the law but to hope in a person, the promised seed that was to come.
