After debriefing about the return of Jimmy Kimmel (1:15), in the second emergency podcast in as many weeks, Asif and Ali discuss President Trump's recent press conference linking autism to Tylenol use. Ali starts off by asking Asif about autism (8:27). Asif discusses what it is, how common it is, and the theories about why the prevalence of autism has been increasing over the past 2 decades. He then goes over the genetic causes of autism and the common questions he asks if he sees a patient who he suspects may have autism. Finally they discuss current treatments for autism. The guys then go over what exactly Trump said in his press conference about Tylenol and autism (33:33), followed by Asif describing the studies which refute and support these claims. They also talk about the dangers of pregnant women not taking medications to treat fevers as well of the dangers of ibuprofen use in pregnancy. Finally, Ali asks Asif about the controversial link between autism and vaccines and disgraced physician Andrew Wakefield. Our Bible Reading of the Day is Genesis 18:1-15; 21:1-7. The Lord and two angelsappear to Abraham in human form, promising the birth of a son to Abraham and Sarah within the year. Sarah conceives and gives birth to Isaac, as the Lord fulfills His promise of generations to come and the promised future Offspring—the Savior, Jesus. God was faithful to give Abraham and Sarah their promised son in Isaac. God is faithful to us in giving us His promised Son, Jesus Christ, the descendant of Abraham, who fulfilled God's promise from of old to redeem His people.
Sean Lowry, cohost of the 2 Brothers Road Trip Radio podcast and brother to regular '93,-'94 contributor Joe Lowry, makes his first appearance here on the show to talk about the 1994 Offspring album Smash and the impact it had on his life.

The Reading of the Day is from Genesis 15:1-6; 17:1-21. God reassures Abram of His promise to bless the earth through Abram's offspring. God changes his name from Abram (“exalted father”) to Abraham (“father of many nations”) and institutes circumcision as the sign of His continued covenant with Abraham. Despite Abraham and Sarah's advanced age, God promises they will have a son of their own. God promised to send a Savior to crush Satan's power over us. Jesus is the promised Offspring of Eve. He fulfilled this promise and defeated Satan by His work on the cross

Send us a textHow maternal obesity epigenetically reprograms liver metabolism in offspring, predisposing them to metabolic disease.Episode Summary: Dr. Elvira Mass talks about macrophages, specialized immune cells that vary by tissue and play crucial roles beyond fighting infections, such as supporting organ function; Kupffer cells (liver macrophages) and how maternal obesity during pregnancy reprograms these cells in offspring, leading to fatty liver disease, fibrosis, and even cancer later in life, based on mouse studies showing epigenetic and metabolic shifts like increased glycolysis, with insights into developmental windows, nutritional mismatches, and broader implications for human health.About the guest: Elvira Mass, PhD, is a Professor of Developmental Immunology at the University of Bonn in Germany, where her lab focuses on the development and function of macrophages in various tissues.Discussion Points:Macrophages are diverse, tissue-specific cells that develop from embryonic precursors, performing unique tasks like providing growth factors in organs.Kupffer cells in the liver monitor blood from the gut and are exposed to maternal nutrients during fetal development.Maternal obesity (induced in mice via high-fat diets) programs offspring Kupffer cells epigenetically, leading to fatty liver in newborns and progression to diseases like cancer, even on normal diets.A "nutritional mismatch" between in utero high-fat exposure and postnatal normal diets worsens liver issues, as cells are "prepared" for excess high-fat intake but face scarcity.Key mechanism: Reprogrammed Kupffer cells overproduce apolipoproteins, driving excess lipid uptake in liver cells (hepatocytes), linked to transcription factor HIF-1α and a shift to inefficient glycolysis.Offspring from obese mothers show sex differences (males affected earlier) and persistent changes.Human parallels: Rising childhood fatty liver (once rare and tied to alcoholism) correlates with maternal obesity; studies like Dutch Hunger Winter show early gestational disruptions cause lifelong issues.Broader factors: Microbiome changes, specific fatty acids, and environmental toxins like microplastics may also reprogram macrophages; diets in studies vary beyond fat content, affecting results.Advice: Maintain consistent healthy habits pre- and during pregnancy; avoid sudden diet shifts, as developmental windows are critical for long-lived cells like Kupffer cells.Reference Paper:Study: Kupffer cell programming bySupport the showAffiliates: Seed Oil Scout: Find restaurants with seed oil-free options, scan food products to see what they're hiding, with this easy-to-use mobile app. KetoCitra—Ketone body BHB + electrolytes formulated for kidney health. If you look at their musical journey, it might appear that SoCal pop/punk/rapcore outfit Zebrahead have led somewhat of a charmed life. From their very inception through meeting at a practice room to playing to a handful of people, where 12 of them were scouting from record labels, a sceptical person could claim things have fallen into place for the band. But if you know the band and know their music, you would know that while luck - in any incarnation - is always welcome, there is one core ingredient of Zebrahead's collective musical psyche that has had more influence on their trajectory than anything else.Fun with a sense of humour. Listening to co-founding member and vocalist Ali Tabatabaee run through Zebrahead's history, the one common thread is their ability to laugh in the face of potential adversity and brush any setbacks off with a shrug of the shoulders and the knowledge of what to do better next time.Their musical style is offbeat and eclectic, mixing a fusion of pop/punk with hip hop and punk sensibilities to create an ever-evolving and expansive sonic universe that is as endless as it is unique. But there is one factor that has been essential to the continued growth of Zebrahead, and that is their live performances. Known and loved for their energetic output and on-stage banter, Zebrahead bridge the gap between intensity and frivolity with boundless energy, approaching each gig like a party with new best friends that just haven't been met yet. This October, after seven long years, Australian fans get to witness this first hand when Zebrahead make their triumphant return for five shows starting in Perth on October 7. Having heard the hype but never speaking with the band, HEAVY jumped at the chance to spend some quality time with Ali, and we're glad we did! We started by asking what has changed with Zebrahead in the seven years since their last visit."Man, I feel like the main thing is Adrian (Estrella) is in the band now," he replied. "He's the other vocalist. We haven't been back since before the pandemic, dude, so it's been a minute. We have released three EPs since then - III, II, I - with Adrian, and we're going to be playing some of those songs when we come over. But also when we're not touring, we've been working on new music. So we're excited to get back home after Australia and get into the studio and record the songs that we've been working on. So that's mainly it, man. And then once that's done, hopefully next summer, start touring again."Talk later turns to the early days of Zebrahead and the musical climate that spawned the band."Man, at that time, Orange County was kind of popping off," he recalled. "You know, we had bands like Offspring. We had bands like No Doubt that were doing really well, so the record labels were really focused on Orange County. We actually got very lucky because of that. Our first show we played this Christmas show, and it was just our girlfriends and the guy who ran the club who gave us the show. He'd never heard of us. He came in to get the money from the cash register or something, and he heard a song. Then after we were done, nobody was there. It was empty. And he goes, 'Hey, I have a friend who's a manager, and you guys are interesting because you have hip hop and punk and stuff. I kind of want him to come and watch you play. Is that something you'd be into?' And we're like, sure, of course, who's gonna say no?"In the full interview, Ali talks more about the Australian tour and what to expect, their energetic live shows and how they will translate to our crowds, having Thomas Nicolas Band as national support, plus the early days of Zebrahead and where they fit in.We talked about Zebrahead getting signed and how their career grew from there, the blending of genres in their music and how they came about, musical experimentalisation and how they regulate it, future music and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

The current day nation of Israel was established in 1948, a place for many of the Jews who survived the holocaust to call home. Many Christians in Europe and North America consider this to be a fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies to Abraham and his offspring that they would inherit the land on which Israel and Palestine now exist. One result of the establishment of political Israel has been the forced displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, a geopolitical move which has been the primary cause of decades of violence from both sides toward each other. At the heart of this passionate fight for this particular bit of property is the belief–by many Jews on one hand–that the promises God made to Abraham are for his son Isaac's offspring, and the corresponding belief–by many Muslims on the other hand–that the promises God made to Abraham are for his son Ishmael's descendants. Many Christians, believing that Old Testament Israel and current-day national Israel are organically related, support without question any decisions national Israel make. But the New Testament teaches that the offspring of Abraham who inherits the promises made to Abraham, including the promise of the land, is Abraham's true Offspring, Jesus, who inherits the whole world as the Son of God who is the one true Jew. And Paul also insists that all those who have been baptized into Jesus are–by virtue of union with him–also the offspring of Abraham and thus heirs of the promises made to him. As a result, Christians do not need to unquestionably support either Israel or Palestine, because in Christ all those who believe in him are the true owners and inheritors of the land. Thursday, 28 August 2025 The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here. Matthew 12:41 “Men, Nineveh, they will arise in the judgment with this generation and they will sentence it, for they reconsidered at the proclamation of Jonah. And you behold! Jonah's greater is here!” (CG). In the previous verse, Jesus noted that just as Jonah was in the belly of the great lunker three days and three nights, He would be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights. Next, He continues His address to the scribes and Pharisees, saying, “Men, Nineveh, they will arise in the judgment with this generation.” The location Nineveh is introduced here. The name Nineveh may be a word of foreign origin, but if connected to Hebrew, its meaning is Offspring's Habitation. As the Bible is written from a Hebrew perspective, the Hebrew name is what is to be considered. Nineveh is a city that was built at the earliest times of man after the flood. It was noted as being built by Nimrod in the Table of Nations in Genesis 10:11. It is noted in 2 Kings, Isaiah, Jonah, Nahum, and Zephaniah, but the main biblical accounts of Nineveh are recorded in Jonah and Nahum. Jesus is referring to the account in Jonah, saying that the inhabitants of Nineveh will arise to judge the generation of Israel in which He came. And more, He next says, “and they will sentence it.” The verb katakrinó, to judge against, is introduced. In judging against, it means an unfavorable verdict is rendered, leading to condemnation. Condemning or condemnation in the Bible is often associated with eternal punishment. This is not always the case when the word is used. To condemn means expressing disapproval, censuring, sentencing, etc. The context will derive the meaning. In this case, Nineveh will be a part of the judgment and sentencing of Israel's people at Jesus' time. The reason is, “for they reconsidered at the proclamation of Jonah.” Another new noun is stated, kérugma. It signifies a proclamation. Preaching is a type of proclamation. Jonah was sent to NinevehJonah to speak a word of the Lord against Nineveh. This was his kérugma, his proclamation – “Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, 2 ‘Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me.'” Jonah 1:1, 2 “And Jonah began to enter the city on the first day's walk. Then he cried out and said, ‘Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!'” Jonah 3:4 As noted in the Matthew 12:39 commentary, Jonah's time in the belly of the lunker is not the sign of Jonah. The sign of Jonah is something Nineveh was aware of. They had no idea that Jonah was in the lunker's belly. The sign of Jonah is the kérugma, the proclamation, of Jonah. But more, it is specifically what the proclamation stated, “Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.” As noted in the Matthew 12:38 commentary, a sign is something that stands for something else. It may be a miracle or a wonder, but a sign points to another thing, such as “this indicates this.” Jesus clearly states in Luke 11:30-32 that the preaching of Jonah is the sign, just as Jesus' preaching to the people of Israel is the sign. Jonah preached and promised destruction in forty days. Jesus preached and promised destruction as well. The sign of Jonah is the preaching, which, if rejected, would lead to destruction after forty days. Jesus' time in Sheol, followed by the resurrection, simply bears witness to the truth of Jesus' preaching, which was to an already unbelieving people. His words of the kingdom and reconsideration to “this generation” are the ultimate sign to them. Other prophets spoke in the name of the Lord, but Jesus spoke in His own name and under His own authority as the Son, and so He next says, “And you behold! Jonah's greater is here!” The warning to reconsider or be overthrown turned out to be a day for a year, just as it was in the Old Testament. When Israel disobeyed in the wilderness, they were given a day for a year punishment for every day that the spies were gone. It was forty days, and thus forty years of punishment. In Ezekiel chapter 4, he was told to lie on his right side for forty days, signifying a day for a year of punishment for Judah. He was told to do the same for his left side, but for three hundred and ninety days. It was a day for a year for the house of Israel. Together, they formed the basis of the prophecy concerning the return of Israel in 1948. Forty years after Jesus' words, a day for a year, Israel's temple was destroyed, and the people were carried away in exile. The Romans came in and did what Nineveh was spared of. God's judgment fell heavily upon them for failing to reconsider, receive their long-awaited Messiah, and conform to the will of God, which is found in the finished work of Jesus Christ. Life application: The sign of Jonah is the preaching of Jonah. The word of God, spoken to Israel in fulfillment of Scripture, and under the full authority of the Messiah who had been promised since the very beginning of man's time on the planet, was the sign. The resurrection simply proved it. It is the word that conveys this to us. Thus, the word is its own sign to the people of the world. In essence, “I have used My people, Israel, to be a sign to the world as a proof that My word is true and that it is to be understood and accepted as such.” The sign of Israel is a sign that is not yet fully fulfilled. To assume that the church has replaced Israel reflects a fundamental flaw in Christian understanding. It fails to match the reality of what is coming upon the world in the tribulation and millennium. Be sure to have your theology concerning Israel properly aligned with what God is doing in the world. Otherwise, events that lie ahead will leave you surprised and confounded. “Therefore, indeed, I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city, 35 that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.36 Assuredly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.” Matthew 23:34-36 Lord God, thank You for being with us as we engage with Your word. On our own, it is often hard to see what is being conveyed. Add on top of that, innumerable incorrect analyses of what is being said have been loaded upon us. Help us cut to the heart of what You are telling us by reminding us to stay in and study Your word all our days. Amen.

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for July 25, 2025 is: sui generis soo-eye-JEN-uh-ris adjective Sui generis is a formal adjective used to describe someone or something in a class or group of its own, or in other words, unlike anyone or anything else. // As a scholar, she is sui generis, head and shoulders above everyone else in her field. See the entry > Examples: “TV on the Radio, the celebrated group whose experimental amalgam of rock, post-punk, electronic, and soul made it sui generis in the 2000s New York scene, knew it was time for a break. It was 2019, and after nearly 20 years and five albums together, the nonstop demands of recording and touring had taken its creative and physical toll.” — Jason Newman, Rolling Stone, 16 Apr. 2025 Did you know? Many English words ultimately trace back to the Latin forms gener- or genus (which are variously translated as “birth,” “race,” “kind,” and “class”). Offspring of those roots include general, generate, generous, generic, and gender. But sui generis is truly a one-of-a-kind genus descendant that English speakers have used to describe singular things since the late 1600s. Its earliest uses were in scientific contexts, but where it once mostly characterized substances, principles, diseases, and even rocks thought to be the only representative of their class or group, its use expanded by the early 1900s, and it is now used more generally for anything that stands alone.

(22:07-37:56) – Indiana Fever Head Coach Stephanie White makes her weekly appearance on the show and starts her conversation off with Jake with an update on Caitlin Clark. (37:14-41:55) – The first hour of the program concludes with Jake revealing what NBA player could be bought out that could make their way to Indianapolis (again) with the Pacers having one roster spot open.
