Continuing with our Wednesday series entitled "Minor Prophets," a verse by verse overview of the Old Testaments Major and Minor Prophets. In today's study we cover the old testament book of Haggai Chapters 1 and 2. With the Babylonian exile in the past, and a newly returned group of Jews back in the land, the work of rebuilding the temple can begin. However, sixteen years after the process is begun, the people have yet to finish the project, for their personal affairs have interfered with God's business. Haggai preaches a fiery series of sermons designed to stir up the nation to finish the temple. He calls the builders to renewed courage in the Lord, renewed holiness of life, and renewed faith in God who controls the future. As we grow in our walks with God, opposition will begin to grow in our lives as well. Lets take time a refocus on God, do a heart check. -1 Examine your priorities, to see if we are more interested in our own pleasures than doing the work of God. -2 Reject the defeated attitude when we run into opposition or discouraging circumstances -3 Confess our Failures and seek to live a pure life before God. - 4 Act courageously for God because we have the assurance that He is always with us and fully in control of our circumstances -5 Rest securely in Gods hands knowing He will bless us as we Faithfully serve Him If you are interested in attending our live teachings (Wednesdays @ 7:00 pm & Sundays @ 10:00 am), you are invited to visit us at 4218 Boston Ave. Lubbock, Texas. Brother Ray Jordan, founding Pastor of the former Grace Baptist Tabernacle, which was located in Pell City, AL, preached this message some years ago, during the church's infancy.
Haggai is a very short book, just 37 verses total, covering a mere 4 months of Old Testament history. And not much is known about prophet himself. Despite these two realities, the book is an important one, as it covers a significant event in the history of the Old Testament people of God. By studying the 2 chapters of Haggai, we can observe:
How do you "bless God"? Doesn't God bless us?
On the !2 year anniversary since God delivered the "consider" message to pastor David, God reminds us of the importance of "considering your ways" through the prophet Haggai. What is temporary and what is eternal?
