Wake the Faith up Slayer… This is Garth Heckman with the David Alliance and you can reach me at TDAgiantslayer@gmail.com    Brought to you by wellbuiltbody.com Gym Apparel for men and women that rocks and shocks and ain't for everybody - but just might be for you. wellbuiltbody.com   Oscar Wilde was quoted as saying “I can resist everything except temptation”. But the thought still remains… how does one resist temptation… It might be easier and weirder than you think.    What to do when you are tempted? Run away like Joseph and Potiphars wife… sure Pray? ok, thats a good one. Confess to a strong Christian brother? not a bad idea Block and stay away from the temptation… again smart move… But what if I said there is another way that might seem a little weird?   Eph. 5:3 Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God's people. 4 Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes—these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God.    And Again in  17 Don't act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. 18 Don't be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, 19 singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. 20 And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.   What is temptation?  Its wanting something, its a craving, its a sinful desire, its a deep pull. Well yes but it goes much beyond that. Temptation is about what you want. Its is a selfish, greedy, self centered want. Temptation is simply “all about you”.  Temptation is me me me me   So when Paul says if you are facing all kinds of temptations give thanks it sounds weird until you realize that Thankfulness is selfless. it takes your focus off of you. You almost never hear anyone tell themselves how thankful they are for themselves. You never thank yourself because it just sounds self centered and honestly Pompous!  You thank others for what they did. You thank them with words that go out of your ME ME ME ME zone and into a world of how they feel. I am giving thanks to make you feel good, to encourage you, to lift your spirits up. I am giving thanks to others, to God and Jesus for what they did. True thankfulness has nothing to do with what I want or what I did.  The very nature of thankfulness destroys temptation because it changes your focus off of you and onto others.  Its hard to be tempted when I am thinking about others.  Are you feeling tempted? Start to practice thankfulness especially to God and watch how quickly your focus changes and how fast the temptation will die!

I'm this episode, Associate Pastor T.J. Tyus takes us through the successful life of John The Baptist. He teaches us how to confidently walk in the wilderness with strong faith, trust, and belief in God. Be prepared to see the best solution despite any trial that enters your life. “Going to the next level requires you to be obsessed.” 12:20 - Luke 1:14-16. God decided you were going to win before you were born. Before you were formed in you mothers womb, God had great and prosperous plans for your life. It's up to us to overcome the oppositions that life deals you. 14:47 - “You can't fail doing things according to God's will.” God's word and promises will never return void to him. Walk in alignment with God to receive what he has in store for you. 15:20 - “If your doubting your gift, you're doubting the God who gave it to you.” Don't allow the enemy to rob your faith! Put on the whole armor of God while using his word to combat faith attacks in your life. 16:50 - Thrive in Darkness. Luke 1:77-80. Your character grows walking to the path of peace in darkness. Faith, trust, and belief in God matures in situations where you're fully dependent upon him. 24:56 - Remain Balanced. Matthew 11:2-6. “You will be blessed if you don't stumble or get offended by the trials God allows in your life.” Continuously build your faith to see God's solutions when trials arrive. Outcomes of walking in darkness Being able to minister to others.  Grow your character.  Build belief, trust and faith.  Takeaways  - Your habits determine your outcome. John the Baptist was obsessed before he was born. John learned how to overcome his challenges while walking in the wilderness with God. Don't let circumstances build doubt or fear inside of you. Confess your thoughts and feelings to God so that he can help with your unbelief. When Jesus gives you confirmation that he's present in your life, do not doubt it! Isaiah 55:8-9 His plans aren't our plans. We must decide to trust God without questioning him during trials we don't yet understand. We want to make it HARD for people to go to hell by making it EASY for them to go to church so they can experience, know and follow Jesus. HEALTHY people grow Philippians 3:10-14 I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. 1. Read your BIBLE Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” 2. Practice CONFESSION and REPENTANCE Ezekiel 14:1-5 “Some of the elders of Israel came to me and sat down in front of me. Then the word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, these men have set up idols in their hearts and put wicked stumbling blocks before their faces. Should I let them inquire of me at all? Therefore speak to them and tell them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: When any of the Israelites set up idols in their hearts and put a wicked stumbling block before their faces and then go to a prophet, I the Lord will answer them myself in keeping with their great idolatry. I will do this to recapture the hearts of the people of Israel, who have all deserted me for their idols.'" 3. COMMUNITY James 5:16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. 4. GIVING Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 5. Sharing CHRIST Philemon 1:6 ESV and I pray that the sharing of your faith may become effective for the full knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of Christ. 6. SERVING Luke 22:19-20 And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. Matthew 20:28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/coastalchurch/message

Biblical Confession today is not just between a person and a priest. It is foremost between God and man. And it is also to other believers as we confess to one another our shortcomings so we can pray for one another and be accountable. Bible Reading: Num. 5-8 Verse of the day: Numbers 5:7, "He shall confess his sin that he has committed. And he shall make full restitution for his wrong, adding a fifth to it and giving it to him to whom he did the wrong." Word of the day: Confess. It is the Hebrew word:  יָדָה (yaw-daw').

Barbershops are a refuge from discrimination where black men can talk freely about their life and personal experiences. The Confess Project encourages dialogue between African American males about emotional health by training barbers and stylists to become mental health advocates. While Black adults generally experience the same rates of mental illness as other adults in the United States, the American Psychological Association (APA) finds that Black adults who live below the poverty line are more than twice as likely to report serious psychological distress compared to those who have greater financial security. The APA also finds that concerns such as illness, poverty, and racial discrimination put Black male youth at greater risk for suicide, depression, and other mental health disabilities. In this episode of ADA Live!, our guests Dontay Williams and Darnell Rice share about the Confess Project, a peer support network of more than 1400 barbers in 47 cities and 14 states across the U.S. who are inspiring boys, men of color and their families to be better emotionally and creating a culture of better mental health in Black communities.

The Titanic was one of the greatest shipwreck events of all time. It was said the architect and builder of the Titanic thought his ship was indestructible. Someone heard him say, that God Himself couldn't sink his ship. The portion of the iceberg the Titanic saw above the water line was not a threat, it was the iceberg that extended below the water line that sank the ship. So many lives, families, and communities were drastically changed because of that event. Over the years we have seen prominent pastors and church leaders suffer shipwrecked lives because they drifted off course. These are very visible in the media today. But the even greater tragedy is, that there are so many others within the church that have drifted off course and found themselves broken, and their lives and homes destroyed. They seemed to be managing their faith that is above the water line, but underneath within the heart, there was danger lurking, Our hearts can drift into the shallows of our flesh, and worldly desires until the impact of the sin shatters our lives. How can we avoid our faith becoming shipwrecked? Open your Bibles and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal how far our faith has drifted. Don't become another statistic for the world to use against the glory of God and His salvation.

    Today in the Word Devotional

For many years, I struggled with drug and alcohol addiction. It started before I was a teenager and continued until my last semester of seminary. Since I was a straight-A student and a Christian who attended church faithfully, no one suspected that I was also regularly using narcotics. I woke up one morning and the Holy Spirit impressed on me this thought: “My dad didn’t become an alcoholic and cause so much destruction because he wanted to. It happened just like I’m doing now—a few steps at a time.” That day I flushed my stash of pills, called a friend for help, and never looked back. No withdrawals, no relapses; God miraculously healed me from a decade and a half of substance abuse. I was very slow to share my sin. I was ashamed and afraid of all that I would lose if people knew the truth about me. Do you know what happened, though? That first friend I called showered me with love and offered a place to stay. And every person after that offered love, support, and encouragement. I expected condemnation, but instead I received mercy. I expected to be shunned, but instead I was welcomed. To say I did not prosper during all those years I concealed my sin would be an understatement. The weight of hidden sin sucked all the life out of me. But that life rushed back in when I “confesse[d] and renounce[d]” my sin (v. 13). Friend, if you’re living under the weight of hidden sin, come to Jesus. First John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Come and see that God is good. Come experience His mercy and refreshing, grace and forgiveness.  >> Do you have hidden sin? Follow the words of wisdom that we have studied this month. Confess your sin to God and renounce it today. Then call a friend or your pastor for help.

I greet you in Jesus' precious name. It is Friday morning, 29th July 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.“Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”James 5:16There is power that is available in the prayer of confession, of saying sorry. I am currently mentoring a group of men. These men range in age from 12 to 70 years old. Just the other day we met and read this Scripture very carefully together, with much fear and trepidation. After we had read that Scripture, one by one, the men and boys started to walk to the front of this large group of men. Some of them for the first time in their lives started to confess to God, in our presence and the presence of their trusted brothers in Christ, any areas of unconfessed sin where the devil had had them chained and shackled for years.I want to say to you, my dear friend, that very rarely in my 40-plus years of serving the Lord, have I ever experienced, the tangible presence of the love of God like I did that night. Weeping and genuine sorrow at having disappointed the Master was confessed, and then after that, the sheer elation of leaving their confessed sin at the foot of the Cross and having their brothers as witnesses for when the devil would try to bring it up again and being totally delivered from the accusations of satan. Then there was the joy and the freedom of having had the courage to do it - it was very beautiful. I saw fathers and sons weeping in each other's arms, asking forgiveness. I saw men who had been carrying burdens on their shoulders for many years, leave it at the foot of the Cross. It was so very beautiful. Something I shall never forget as long as I live. Maybe we all should do it a lot more.Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day.Goodbye.

James 5:16 teaches us to confess our sins to one another and pray for one another.  We need each other.  We cannot battle our sin alone.  But I submit to you that confession and prayer within the community of faith does not have to wait until sin has already occurred...

Sermon Recording Sermon OutlineSpeaker: Rev. Charles DrewSermon Series: How Praying Changes UsPsalm 32 (ESV) 1 Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. 2 Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.3 For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. 4 For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. Selah5 I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah6 Therefore let everyone who is godly offer prayer to you at a time when you may be found; surely in the rush of great waters, they shall not reach him. 7 You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. 9 Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle, or it will not stay near you.10 Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the Lord. 11 Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!1 John 1:5-10 (ESV)5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.Sermon Outline1. Why does confessing put things right with God?Jesus' strange relationship to Psalm 32Why?Prayer of ConfessionGracious Lord, you have made us for you. You grieve when we hide from you: when we pretend that all is well when it isn't; when we blame our circumstances and other people for the things we have done wrong; when we seek relief from our pain and misfortune without seeking you. Forgive us for hiding. Make vivid what we need to admit to. Motivate us to come clean. Give us the joy of restored fellowship with you. We pray in the name of Jesus, who suffered to secure our welcome. Amen.Questions for ReflectionReflect on the following statement.John reminds us (vv. 8, 10) that If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us… 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make God a liar, and his word is not in us. If confession is not a regular part of our prayer life, then we are living a lie, at least part of the time.We try to hide from our moral lapses in numerous ways. One is to blame-shift (pointing the finger away from ourselves and toward circumstances or the faults in other people—usually, and ironically, faults that most closely resemble our own). Another form of hiding is to give all our energy to feeling better instead of identifying whatever it is we have done wrong. Why do we often find it so difficult to admit to wrong-doing? Ask a close friend to help you identify occasions when you have hidden from the truth about yourself in these, or other, ways. Read over and then pray, if you can, the following words:“Dear Father, for my own good, please show me my transgressions and not just my miseries. I am not asking to be beat up by false guilt (protect me from that); but I am asking for light from you on what is actually amiss. I want to walk in the light. So please, tear away any self-deceit if there is any. Show me (if this is the case) how I am like (v. 9) a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle, or it will not stay near you. And, if this is the case, help me to admit it straight out.”According to 1 John 1:9, what two good things happen to those who admit to God when they have sinned? How does the second thing differ from the first and why is it important and comforting?Read over Psalm 32:6-7, 10, bearing in mind that godly means “God-toward”, not perfect (a “God-toward” person is an honest and humble person, someone who, like the psalmist, admits he has been wrong and asks the Lord for forgiveness and help). List the blessings that come to the godly and take five minutes to thank God for them. Our confession of wrong-doing doesn't cause the wrong-doing to disappear. And yet, according to Psalm 32 and 1 John 1, God still forgives us comprehensively and welcomes us whole-heartedly. Reflect on what follows and then thank God for Jesus: When we say that our sins have been covered by God (v 1), we declare that we were like homeless people, “ripe” in our filthy clothing, over whom God has fitted a lovely new set of sweet-smelling garments. The New Testament tells us that those clothes come from Jesus, who knit them together stitch by stitch over a lifetime of obedience and love. On Good Friday Jesus put on our filthy clothes (that's why he suffered the curses of Psalm 32) and gave us his beautiful ones.

We want to make it hard for people to go to hell by making it easy for them to go to church so they can experience, know and follow JESUS. Everyone's WELCOME, because nobody's PERFECT and anything's POSSIBLE. Matthew 9:9 As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at his tax collector's booth. “Follow me and be my disciple,” Jesus said to him. So Matthew got up and followed him. Religious Leaders: CHANGE and you can JOIN us. Jesus: JOIN us and you'll CHANGE. Matthew 9:10-11 Later, Matthew invited Jesus and his disciples to his home as dinner guests, along with many tax collectors and other disreputable sinners. But when the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with such scum?” 1. Declare that EVERYONE'S WELCOME. Community is at its best when it embraces both GRACE and TRUTH. 2. Confess that NOBODY'S PERFECT. I am a MESS, and I need GOD. “We are people who normally would not mix. But there exists among us a fellowship, a friendliness, and an understanding which is indescribably wonderful. We are like the passengers of a great liner the moment after rescue from shipwreck when camaraderie, joyousness and democracy pervade the vessel from steerage to Captain's table.”—THE BIG BOOK Galatians 3:28 There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. 1 John 1:8-9 If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. 3. Believe that ANYTHING'S POSSIBLE. Following Jesus compels us to see people not for who they ARE TODAY but for who they could BECOME TOMORROW. Jesus Followers Are Expected, by God, to Confess their Sins and Plead for Forgiveness {Penitence} Real Time MESSAGE SUMMARY: Penitence is not a once in a lifetime occurrence. Penitence is a daily and moment by moment, real time, occurrence. None of us is perfect, and not one of us always does the will of God. Paul, in Romans 2:4-5, is unequivocal in establishing the need for your continuing penitence and the consequences of your not repenting of your sins on a real-time basis: “Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed.". Therefore, we all need to repent and return to the Lord. You can become cocky and arrogant in your spiritual life – “I am a Christian; God has done this for me.”. As the Psalmist tells us in Psalms 32:5 of his confession and his penitence: “I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,' and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.". You can rest on our perceived laurels; but these perceptions, of personal goodness and righteousness, can lead you quickly to a need for your penitence.   TODAY'S PRAYER: Most merciful God I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I might delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of Your Name. Amen.  TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, because of I am filled with the Holy Spirit, I will not be controlled by my Inconsistencies. Rather, I will walk in the Spirit's fruit of Faithfulness. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22f). God wants to give victory to his people, he is able to do so but be aware of something. When we violate the Word of God, when we transgress When we rebel. In other words, when there is sin in our life, that sin is going to affect us adversely. It is going to have a negative outcome in our our daily existence. Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 6:3-7"Oh no! This birthday card I'm making for Grandma is all messy," Cyra wailed. "I made a mistake, so I erased a few lines and did them over. I tried to erase carefully, but the page still looks messy.""Well, the mailman will be here soon," said Mom, glancing out the window. "If you want to send that today, you'll probably have to leave it the way it is. I think Grandma will understand." So Cyra reluctantly sealed the envelope and hurried to put it in the mailbox. That afternoon, Cyra looked glum when she came in from playing outside. "Is something wrong, honey?" Mom asked."I don't think Jane likes me anymore," replied Cyra in a trembling voice. "She doesn't want to play with me--I can tell. I don't blame her. I'm sure it's because I got mad and said some mean things to her a couple weeks ago.""Did you apologize and tell her you were sorry?" Mom asked. Cyra nodded. "And what did she say?" asked Mom."She said she forgave me." A tear rolled down Cyra's cheek. "I asked God to forgive me too. He did, didn't He?""Yes, He forgave you," said Mom. "I believe Jane did too, but it may take time before she trusts you again." Mom put an arm around Cyra. "What happened when you made a card for Grandma this morning?"Cyra wrinkled her brow. "I made a mistake and erased part of it.""And how did the page look after you erased those lines?""It…it looked a little messy," answered Cyra."Yes, and life is something like that," Mom told her. "In a way, we're writing pages in our lives, and sometimes we mess up. When we confess our wrongs to Jesus, He graciously forgives us completely. But if our sin hurt someone, it may take time for them to trust us again. To them, that page of our lives may not seem quite the same. When we wrong someone, it often leaves a mark." Mom gave Cyra a hug. "Remember that Jesus has forgiven your sin, and be patient with Jane. Show her that you can be trusted."Cyra sighed. "Okay. I'll show her I want to start over on a fresh page and be a better friend." -Hazel W. MarettHow About You?Have you messed up a page of your life?
