Today we are stepping into a space of liminality with doula-in-training and community bridge builder, Shayla, founder of Malawi's House! Birthwork has always existed as a pillar of family, community bonding, and resistance in Black spaces. As mortality rates among Black and brown mothers remain alarmingly high, many are amplifying the work of Black doulas, birthworkers, and post-partum caregivers who are on the frontlines of advocacy work and accessibility to health services and family planning for Black parents and their communities.

As we celebrate International Mother Earth Day, I wanted to share a conversation I had earlier this month with the farmers behind at Smarter by Nature to talk about the importance of Black farming in the 21st century and reclaiming land not only preserves ancestral traditions, but also helps us reimagine our relationship with food and gardening.

The Realm of Black Women is as diverse as it is wide. This week I talk with Black bookstagrammer and soon-to-be Ph.D. candidate, Zaria @blackademicreads to talk about living through Black history and navigating the world of academia (and Instagram) as a young, Black woman scholar.
