"Karen's" Gone Wild 3 Hour r/AskReddit Compilation“Karen” vs. “Becky” vs. “Stacy”: How Different Are These Slang Terms? When it comes to certain white women these days, it doesn't matter what lovely moniker their parents may have given them. They've also been deigned with the name Karen, Becky, or Stacy. Why? These common names are now shorthand for a certain kind of woman who either behaves badly or others like to complain about. As viral videos of Beckys blow up and the service industry cringes whenever a Karen asks to speak to the manager, these names have taken on a new meaning. But are all three names now insults? What exactly do they mean when used this way? And are they interchangeable? When it comes to these names, it's complicated. If you've ever wondered which is worse—dealing with a Karen, Stacy, or Becky—go ahead and take a closer look. What does Karen mean?Karen is a generic name that's common among middle-aged women. It was one of the top five most popular baby names for girls from 1957–1966, and peaked at #3 in 1965, according to Social Security data.Karen is also the Danish form of Katherine, which is popularly associated with a Greek word for pure. However, the meaning of Karen has evolved over recent years. Record of the insult Karen appears as early as September 2016, and by 2020, Karen had gained a slang meaning that refers to a middle-aged white woman. However, it doesn't refer to just any middle-aged white woman. The popularization of Karen as an insult has been credited to Black Twitter in the 2010s, and it typically refers to a woman who fits the stereotype of an aggressive, racist, minivan-driving, white mom. Your typical Karen has a “speak to the manager” haircut that's a variation of a blunt blonde bob. Karens are the types to complain to the manager about anything and everything, and have become the subject of memes as well as viral videos. In 2020, Karens became further associated with bad behavior, as videos surfaced of women acting out over refusing to wear masks or social distance to protect against COVID-19 and also engaging in extremely racist behaviors. When these instances are captured on video, they tend to go viral, with the Karen in question being publicly shamed. For example, “Central Park Karen” was a white woman who called the police on a Black man birdwatching in the park. There was also a “Costco Karen” who was filmed throwing a tantrum over being asked to wear a face mask. And then there was “Zombie Karen” who ran into a glass door and licked it while screaming racist slurs after being refused entry to a bar.In short, being called a Karen or told that you have a Karen haircut is not a compliment.Learn more about what makes a Karen so recognizable here. What does Becky mean?Like Karen, Becky follows the trend of a first name being used to generalize a certain type of person. Again, we're talking white women here. However, Beckys aren't middle-aged, ignorant, and aggressive white moms. Instead they are typically younger white women who are unaware or take advantage of their privilege. Beckys are the new Valley Girls.Becky is a pet form of the Biblical name Rebecca. However, the name became widely used as a slang insult in the late 2010s. Beyoncé helped solidify this in 2016 with her song “Sorry,” which references a Becky with the good hair whom many have interpreted to be a white woman. In addition to referring to a woman unaware of her white privilege and acting racist, Becky is also used to mock basic young women who love their pumpkin spice, UGG boots, and social media photos. The key to this stereotype is that Beckys are basic: completely unoriginal and mainstream. In addition to loving apple-picking in the fall and selfies, a Becky is stereotyped as a so-called basic bitch who is a privileged, sheltered, generic, and unlikeable white woman.Read more about the history and usage of Becky as a slang term here. What does Stacy mean?Stacy is also a pejorative slang term for a woman. The origin of Stacy is obscure, and may come from Anastasia or Eustace. However, Stacy reached peak popularity in the United States in the 1970s–80s and can be spelled Stacey and Stacie. By 2011 it had taken on an entirely different connotation. Stacy now is used as a stereotype for an attractive woman who is vain, rude, and only interested in sex. Stacies are sexually active and looked down upon for it.This version of Stacy originated from incel culture, which is an internet subculture of men who are celibate and blame women for their lack of sex lives. They use the term to describe typically white, blonde, women with porn-star bodies and a sensuality they hate because they can't have them. Stacy is similar to the term whore: it's dehumanizing, sexist, and scapegoats a woman who is deemed promiscuous by men.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/true-cheating-stories-2024-best-of-reddit-nsfw-cheating-stories-2024--5689182/support.

Yesterday, Mike unpacked how and why he was wrong about the Central Park Karen story, and today he has a couple more points to make about his wrongness. Then rewind back to 2018, when, with the Muller investigation filling the headlines, the Ranking Member of the House Intelligence Committee, Devin Nunes issued a memo titled "Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act Abuses at the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation," alleging that the Steele Dossier was nonsense. When the memo surfaced, Mike had a ball calling Nunes a "nincompoop" for issuing it, and for just generally being a nincompoop (which is a fun word, you have to admit), but since then, Mike's position on the matter has changed, and he wants to explain how. In May 2020, Amy Cooper had her dog off leash in New York City's Central Park, when a black bird watcher name Christian Cooper asked her to leash her dog. In response, Amy Cooper said she would call the police and tell them that "an African American man" was threatening her. A video of the incident went viral, and "the Central Park Karen" was born. Only, the story was more nuanced than the media had led many to believe about what had really transpired that day, and it was reporter Kmele Foster who dug into this story and found levels of detail which, upon reading it, made Mike rethink his position on this incident. Apparently it's only a "free speech crisis" in one direction. Meanwhile, the Second Circuit seems highly skeptical of Central Park Karen's claim that her former employer defamed her for citing its zero tolerance for racism in firing her. And by "highly skeptical" we mean the panel appears to have granted oral argument simply to dunk on her lawyer. Speaking of lawyers getting dunked on, the hapless attorneys who filed a response filled with fake caselaw they got off of ChatGPT are in serious trouble. But don't mistake this for "the perils of technology" because this was a failure of good old-fashioned lawyering.

Usually hosted by Kmele Foster, Michael Moynihan, and Matt Welch, this episode, which aired in July of 2022, features Kmele and two guests who have become elder statesmen around the persistent issue of race in America: John McWhorter and Glenn Loury.  Over the past few years McWhorter, Loury and Foster each have written, discussed and lectured exhaustively on anti-racism, the role race plays in America, and the changing meaning of the word “racism” itself. In this episode, they talk about the inadequacies of regarding people solely by their racial category, the dignity of the individual and what a future might look like if we were to abolish race all together. While all three men bring a contrarian streak to this discussion, you'll find that they have disagreements when it comes to questions of race abolition and the so-called “Racial Reckoning” of 2020.  Loury is an economist and professor of social science at Brown University. You can listen to his interview with Bari here. McWhorter is the author of numerous books, including Talking Black and Woke Racism. He's also professor of Linguistics, Philosophy and Music at Columbia University, and a columnist at The New York Times. Since 2015 Kmele Foster has been a prominent voice in a number of discussions about race in America, including his reporting challenging the mainstream media's verdict on Amy Cooper, better known as the Central Park Karen. Brandi is back at it again with another Johnson County murder mystery. How does she keep finding these? Is it because she's the one committing all these murders? Is that why she knows so many details?? (Don't look at me! I'm just asking questions!) Barbara Haddock's death was staged to look like an accident. Barbara lay dead in her garage, under a large amount of firewood. It looked as though she'd been crushed by the firewood. But a closer look revealed a different story. Barbara had been killed by several blows to the back of her head.  Then Kristin tells us about the Central Park Karen. On May 25, 2020, Christian Cooper was birdwatching in an area of Central Park known as the Ramble. The Ramble is home to wildlife and delicate plants, and several signs that state that dogs must be kept on a leash. Amy Cooper figured the rules didn't apply to her. When Christian asked her to put her dog on a leash, she got offended. Then she decided to weaponize her white womanhood. And now for a note about our process. For each episode, Kristin reads a bunch of articles, then spits them back out in her very limited vocabulary. Brandi copies and pastes from the best sources on the web. And sometimes Wikipedia. (No shade, Wikipedia. We love you.) We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the real experts who covered these cases. In this episode, Kristin pulled from: “Rescue organization returns dog to Amy cooper, one week after “Central Park Karen” video went viral,” by Sophie Lewis for CBS News “Christian Cooper on being racially targeted while birdwatching in Central Park,” video on YouTube from CBS News “Amy Cooper faces charges after calling police on Black bird-watcher,” by Jan Ransom for the New York Times “Case against Amy Cooper lacks key element: Victim's cooperation,” by Jan Ransom for the New York Times “Why I have chosen not to aid the investigation of Amy Cooper,” by Christian Cooper for The Washington Post “Amy Cooper, who falsely accused Black bird-watcher, has charged dismissed,” by Jonah E. Both analytical and creative, he brings a unique skill set to his company, Prometheus Digital Studio, that's in high demand for brands and media companies such as Warner Bros., NBC Universal, Machinima, Mitu, and New Form. Damion has spent his career observing and understanding the motivations that drive people's actions. After witnessing the Central Park Karen incident and murders of Ahmaud Abery and George Floyd in 2020, he decided to use his company and skills to make a positive impact on the world and created the Professional Confession podcast. In this episode, Dean Newlund and Damion Taylor discuss:Promoting before completing the projectHoning your product with your audience Keeping a pulse on who follows you Three things to determine about your company Key Takeaways:Promote first, even before completing the project, so that you'll see how big you're initial core audience is and how excited they are about it. Build conversations around the incoming project. If you promote the project first, you'll be able to understand the expectations of your audience and you'll be able to integrate those into the project to hone it into something that your audience wants. Keep a pulse on the type or demographics of the people that follow you. When a new group comes in, you need to understand how you attracted them, see if they fit in your company's mission, and decide how you'll address the new group. Determine what your core message is, what makes your product unique, and what will make your audience want to keep coming back. Contemplate on those three things consistently and deliver. "Bring people along for the ride… It's kind of building your thousand core fans, allowing you to hone your product to what your people really want." — Damion Taylor  See Dean's TedTalk “Why Business Needs Intuition” here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEq9IYvgV7I Connect with Damion Taylor: Website: https://prometheusdigitalstudio.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/prometheusdigital/ | https://www.instagram.com/digital_compendium  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/PrometheusDigitalStudio | https://www.facebook.com/DigiComOfficialPodcasts: Professional Confession https://shows.acast.com/6125936ce23d630012d6f69e | Tech Witch Podcast, https://shows.acast.com/tech-witch  Connect with Dean:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgqRK8GC8jBIFYPmECUCMkwWebsite: https://www.mfileadership.com/The Mission Statement E-Newsletter: https://www.mfileadership.com/blog/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/deannewlund/Twitter: https://twitter.com/deannewlundFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/MissionFacilitators/Email: dean.newlund@mfileadership.comPhone: 1-800-926-7370
