La invasión de Ucrania, que en breve cumplirá cuatro años, ha marcado un punto de inflexión en la evolución de la guerra moderna. Un conflicto que se esperaba rápido y de tipo convencional se ha convertido en una guerra de desgaste prolongada y caracterizada por una innovación tecnológica acelerada y tácticas asimétricas. Esta guerra ha demostrado que la superioridad numérica o el armamento tradicional ya no garantiza imponerse en el campo de batalla. La adaptación rápida a nuevas tecnologías como los drones aéreos y marítimos, la inteligencia artificial y el dominio de la guerra electrónica están demostrando ser elementos fundamentales que explican por qué esta guerra se está prolongando tanto. El cambio más revolucionario ha sido la irrupción de los drones como arma dominante. Los drones no es algo que se acabe de inventar, ya se utilizaban anteriormente, pero de forma mucho más limitada. Los drones de combate eran caros, sofisticados y sólo unas pocas potencias podían permitírselos. Todo eso ha cambiado en Ucrania. Al principio drones como los turcos Bayraktar TB2 fueron de gran importancia para detener el avance ruso. El Kremlin se vio obligado a mejorar sus defensas aéreas y a dedicar muchos más recursos a la guerra electrónica. Esto trajo la proliferación de drones FPV de fabricación china y muy bajo precio que fueron de una endemoniada efectividad. Ucrania pasó de importar a producir millones de drones cada año. Hoy en el país hay más de 200 empresas dedicadas ello. Rusia respondió con la fabricación a gran escala de drones Shahed de origen iraní y variantes propias que pueden lanzarse formando enjambres. No se ha parado de innovar sobre estos artefactos no tripulados. Han aparecido drones de fibra óptica, drones autónomos movidos por inteligencia artificial y enjambres coordinados que saturan las defensas enemigas. La guerra electrónica se ha convertido en un frente más, un frente invisible pero no menos decisivo. Ambos bandos saturan el espectro electromagnético con “jammers”, trazando señales para lanzar contraataques. Esto ha comprimido ciclos de innovación que durarían meses o años a pocas semanas. Un dron efectivo hoy puede volverse obsoleto en solo unos días. En Ucrania han desarrollado sistemas para operar sin GPS, Rusia, por su parte, emplea drones con SIM ucranianas clonadas. La adopción de sistemas de inteligencia artificial no ha hecho más que acelerar la innovación. La IA permite el reconocimiento autónomo de objetivos y la evasión de defensas. En estos momentos los drones autónomos ucranianos tienen una precisión del 80% en sus ataques lo que ha nivelado el campo de batalla ya que Rusia exhibe mayor poder artillero y dispone de muchos más efectivos sobre el terreno. Desde el punto de vista táctico, la guerra de Ucrania ha dejado anticuados las grandes ofensivas mecanizadas de otros tiempos. Los tanques son demasiado vulnerables a los drones, lo que favorece la guerra de posiciones con trincheras y dispersión de fuerzas. En el mar los drones ucranianos han diezmado la flota rusa del mar Negro. La guerra híbrida compuesta por ciberataques, desinformación y sabotajes ha hecho el resto. Lo que estamos viendo en Ucrania es una “democratización” de la guerra. Contendientes que sobre el papel son muy inferiores pueden plantar cara a superpotencias con inventiva, adaptación tecnológica y producción a gran escala. El laboratorio bélico ucraniano ha tenido además un impacto crucial en la industria de defensa de todo el mundo. Se están destinando miles de millones de euros a desarrollar el nuevo armamento y los sistemas que lo mueven. Un arsenal que definirá el modo en el que se hará la guerra a lo largo de este siglo. Max talks with host Scott Hamilton of WBT, Charlotte's News Talk radio, about the Statesville, North Carolina Citation 550 crash that killed NASCAR driver Greg Biffle and six others, then expands the conversation with a fresh technical finding and a practical training takeaway for pilots. While preparing for the short radio interview, Max revisited the ADS-B track and noticed something he hadn't seen anyone else write about: the altitude anomaly isn't merely a "jump," it's an impossible spike. The key number is stark. The ADS-B data shows a reported climb of 1,374 feet in 1.64 seconds, which implies a climb rate of almost 50,000 feet per minute—a rate that doesn't make sense for a Citation. Max's point is that this isn't a real aircraft maneuver; it's a data or sensor-path artifact. What makes it more compelling is what happens immediately beforehand: for 34 seconds, there were 14 ADS-B transmissions in a row with the exact same reported altitude. That kind of perfectly flat series is abnormal even if an aircraft is "steady," because pressure altitude reporting typically wiggles at least a little from sample to sample. Max lays out a simple, pilot-intuitive interpretation: the aircraft was likely climbing normally, but the altitude value feeding ADS-B froze for about 34 seconds and then unfroze, "catching up" in one big correction. If you treat that 1,374-foot change as occurring across the 34-second freeze rather than across 1.64 seconds, you get a climb rate around 2,200 fpm—entirely plausible for a departing Citation. About 20 seconds after the correction, the aircraft turned back toward the airport. Max also notes there is audio where a pilot announces on CTAF they are returning because they were "having issues," and he believes those "issues" were likely altimeter/altitude-related rather than a direct cause of the crash. From there, he turns the discussion into something useful for any pilot: how altitude gets measured, encoded, and transmitted—and what kinds of failures can create misleading outputs. In the Citation 550, there are multiple static ports feeding pilot-side and copilot-side instruments, plus potentially additional static sources feeding backups. Depending on the configuration, ADS-B altitude can be sourced through a blind encoder tied to the static system, an air data computer, or an encoding ("coding") altimeter common in older round-gauge aircraft. The operational point: pilots might see one thing on their instruments while the transmitted pressure altitude shows something else—or the opposite—depending on where the fault lives. Max then shifts to the accident sequence on return. Regardless of what prompted the turnback, he argues the crash itself likely occurred on short final for a different reason: visual illusions in rain and degraded visibility. The aircraft struck the approach lighting system short of the runway threshold, which is exactly the kind of outcome that can happen when pilots subtly, unknowingly fly a shallow or low path while "going visual." He emphasizes that we don't yet know the cause with certainty, but absent evidence of an engine failure on short final, illusions are a credible explanatory bucket—and one pilots can learn from immediately. The primary illusion he highlights is water refraction. Rain on the windshield can make the horizon appear lower than it is, which creates the sensation of being higher than you really are—leading to an unconscious nose-down correction and a lower-than-intended glidepath. He also cites guidance that rain, mist, and limited slant visibility reduce and distort visual cues during the instrument-to-visual transition, exactly when pilots are most vulnerable to subtle errors. These effects are also documented in Flight Safety Foundation's ALAR "Visual Illusions" briefing note, which specifically calls out rain-on-windshield refraction and the way rain can change the apparent intensity/brilliance of approach lighting. Max closes with a concrete "do this next time" list. First, if you accept a visual in marginal conditions, load the ILS and use it to back up the visual—it would have shown a low path before contact with approach lights. Second, he discusses a tech-forward defense: using Garmin visual approaches (the NTSB recovered a Garmin GTN 750 from the wreckage) and tools like Pathways in synthetic vision to help maintain a stable vertical picture. But he adds a blunt warning that pilots routinely get wrong: Garmin visual approaches do not guarantee terrain clearance, and in hilly terrain or limited visibility they can route you into terrain unless you've validated them in good conditions. The takeaway is simple: when your eyes can lie, disciplined cross-checking—and knowing the limitations of your tools—is what keeps you off the lights and on a safe path to the runway. 2025 has show us the evolution of alternative media into the very thing it was sold not be to be; regurgitated talking points rooted in advertisements, special interests, and personal bias. On this end-year episode of TST radio, we will look to investigate the underlying mechanism behind the claims and narratives that become talking points every day. These are stories that are not new nor unique, yet are presented in a way to essentially obscure the past in the name of truth and exposing corruption. We begin with Nick Shirley: Nick Shirley's 42 minute “I Investigated Minnesota's Billion Dollar Fraud Scandal” video went viral on X after being posted on December 6, 2025. Within hours Elon Musk was posting about the lack of coverage from news outlets like ABC and Fox News, while other well-known names like Alex Jones were calling it the “fraud of the century.” Random accounts with enormous amounts of followers were calling for Nick to be given the Pulitzer Prize, every top-post was pushing memes of Nick with an X logo that said “100 million views,” and other memes were circulating about how Nick did what mainstream news could not. These posts were pushing the idea that X is completely independent and the definition of free speech and journalistic integrity. Some minor digging, however, shows all of this to be nothing but a theatrical production. Several mainstream and local news outlets covered the Minnesota fraud. In fact, ABC 5 KSTP did an investigation on the fraud in October 2025, posting a video similar to Nick's. In 2018, Fox 9 KMSP did an investigation. In 2015, Hennepin County raided multiple day-care centers as part of a fraud investigation; they arrested four people. The biggest report of all came in 2019 when the Office of the Legislative Auditor State of Minnesota did a full investigation on the Child Care Assistance Program. The investigation around hundreds of millions in fraud. Nick's report was therefore not unique, groundbreaking, or new. It also appears that the attempt to paint X as a source of truth and real journalism follows Musk's signing of an agreement with CHEQ, an Israeli company, to regulate content on the platform. As with TikTok's forced selling to Larry Ellison over content deemed dangerous to Israel, X obliterated not only stories about Israel following Nick's viral video, but drove down another Israeli story happening the same week. On December 29, 2025, Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in the United States to meet with Donald Trump. The meeting involved an announcement of pre-war in Venezuela alongside multiple discussions about an upcoming conflict with Iran. Trump also announced that he has been working with the Israel government to get Netanyahu a full pardon for his crimes.  Furthermore, Nick also teamed up with Jake Lang, an Israeli behind provocations in Michigan an Texas, who arrived in Minnesota to openly called for a crusade against Islam. Just prior to Nick's video going viral, he spent some of the spring in Israel/Gaza interviewing IDF Colonel Grishna Yakubovich, former administrator of occupied Palestine. Volodímir Zelenski y Donald Trump se reunieron este domingo en Mar-a-Lago para revisar un borrador de 20 puntos destinado a poner fin a la guerra entre Ucrania y Rusia, que ya dura casi cuatro años. La reunión ha traído algo de optimismo, pero muy moderado ya que no se anunció avance alguno. Trump dijo que las conversaciones estaban siendo muy productivas y aseguró que Ucrania y Rusia están "más cerca que nunca" de un acuerdo, pero reconoció que hay obstáculos importantes en el camino, especialmente en temas territoriales. Previo al encuentro Trump mantuvo una llamada telefónica de más de dos horas con el presidente ruso, Vladimir Putin, que calificó de "excelente" y "productiva". Según Trump, Putin expresó su disposición para que Ucrania prospere tras la guerra, se comprometió incluso a facilitar a Ucrania suministros energéticos a bajo coste. Ante esto Zelenski reaccionó con escepticismo. Rusia, recordemos, ha “celebrado” la Navidad arrojando bombas sobre civiles ucranianos. El Kremlin confirmó que Putin ha aceptado crear dos grupos de trabajo: uno sobre seguridad y otro sobre asuntos económicos. Ambos comenzarán su tarea en enero del año próximo. El plan de 20 puntos, revisado por negociadores estadounidenses y ucranianos a partir de una propuesta inicial de 28 puntos muy criticada hace dos meses por ser demasiado favorable al Kremlin, contiene elementos como un referéndum en Ucrania sobre cesiones territoriales, elecciones presidenciales, garantías de seguridad inquebrantables (algo similar al Artículo 5 de la OTAN) y la creación de una "zona económica libre" desmilitarizada en ciertas áreas del Donbás. Desde la Antigüedad, la Península Ibérica fue un mosaico de pueblos prerromanos, pero sin unidad política. Roma impuso la primera estructura administrativa con provincias como la Tarraconense, la Bética y la Lusitania, una división que influyó en futuras fronteras. Tras la caída del Imperio Romano, los visigodos unificaron el territorio ubicando la Corte en Toledo y manteniendo a grandes rasgos la organización territorial romana, pero la invasión musulmana de 711 fragmentó la península, con un emirato que luego se transformó en califato en el sur y núcleos cristianos en el norte (Asturias y la Marca Hispánica). La Reconquista trajo reinos independientes como Castilla, León, Aragón, Navarra y los condados catalanes, que configuraron las bases de regiones actuales. Los Reyes Católicos unieron Aragón y Castilla por arriba, pero cada uno de los reinos siguió manteniendo sus instituciones y leyes propias. Felipe V tras la Guerra de Sucesión, trató de centralizar el poder con los Decretos de Nueva Planta pero Navarra y el País Vasco conservaron sus fueros. En el siglo XIX, la reforma de Javier de Burgos (1833) dividió España en 49 provincias (50 tras dividir Canarias en 1927), inspirada en modelos franceses y liberales. Buscaba uniformidad administrativa para poder gobernar de forma más racional. Esta estructura, basada en capitales provinciales y criterios puramente administrativos se mantuvo en todas las constituciones, incluyendo la de 1978, y sirvió de base para las autonomías. El concepto moderno de regiones surge en el siglo XIX, pero la autonomía regional, que tuvo un primer intento en los años de la segunda República, solo se consolidó tras la Transición. La Constitución de 1978 reconoció “nacionalidades y regiones”, creando 17 comunidades autónomas entre 1979 y 1983. Años más tarde, en 1995, las dos plazas de soberanía del norte de África (Ceuta y Melilla) se convirtieron en ciudades autónomas. GrangerSaint Symeon the New Theologian (949 -1022 AD) was an Eastern Orthodox monk and poet who was one of the three saints canonized by the Eastern Orthodox Church and given the title of "Theologian." "Theologian" was not applied to Symeon in the modern academic sense of theological study; the title was intended only to recognise someone who spoke from personal experience of the vision of God. One of his principal teachings was that humans could and should experience theoria (literally "contemplation," or direct experience of God).Symeon was born into the Byzantine nobility and given a traditional education. At age fourteen, he met Symeon the Studite, a renowned monk of the Monastery of Stoudios in Constantinople, who convinced him to give his own life to prayer and asceticism under the elder Symeon's guidance. By the time he was thirty, Symeon the New Theologian became the abbot of the Monastery of Saint Mamas, a position he held for twenty-five years. He attracted many monks and clergy with his reputation for sanctity, though his teachings brought him into conflict with church authorities, who would eventually send him into exile. Symeon is recognized as the first Eastern Christian mystic to share his own mystical experiences freely. Some of his writings are included in the Philokalia, a collection of texts by early Christian mystics on contemplative prayer and hesychast teachings. Symeon wrote and spoke frequently about the importance of experiencing directly the grace of God, often talking about his own experiences of God as divine light. Another common subject in his writings was the need of putting oneself under the guidance of a spiritual father. The authority for many of his teachings derived from the traditions of the Desert Fathers, early Christian monks and ascetics. Robots and automata have been with humans in one form or another for thousands of years. From ancient Egyptian illusionary statutes to Ancient Greek steam or air powered birds, even programmable carts and theatrical figures, up to near-modern mechanisms like the Digesting Duck in 1739 France, the 1770 Austrian chess robot, the 1773 Silver Swan in England, the 1795 Tipu's Tiger of India and the many robots of far east Asia. As early as the 8th century BC, the Chinese were using wooden mechanisms for burial objects, centuries before the Greek myth of a giant mechanical Talos. Long before European machines that are hardly remembered today, the Japanese had mechanical dolls called Nashiki karakul, which served tea and entertained every level of Edo society. None of this history is hidden, and part of the problem in deciphering what it means is our definition of words like robot, machine, giant, myth etc. However, as with technology today where glorified search engines are believed to be sentient intelligence, there were probably many in the ancient world who saw these devices as supernatural. The vast majority probably saw them for what they were though - entertainment. Although the value in such mechanisms has largely been lost today, or simply evolved or transitioned into something more contemporary, our modern use of similar technologies will likely be looked at by a future generation in the same way that we look back on an apparently lost part of human history. The modern popular culture, and conspiracy, perception of the past is that anything considerably advanced must be part of a lost civilization or alien, perhaps Tartarian specifically. But the printing press dates to 1440 and the cotton gin to 1793, two inventions that mechanically revolutionized the world in a way equal to modern phones, and yet few would dispute the modern-human-civilization origin of these devices.  *The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. En las últimas décadas la alianza transatlántica ha sido un pilar esencial del orden mundial. Esta alianza surgió tras la Segunda Guerra Mundial y se fortaleció al término de la Guerra Fría. Europeos y estadounidenses comparten, aparte de cultura, valores como la democracia liberal, el Estado de derecho, el gobierno limitado y el libre comercio. Esa visión del mundo evitó grandes conflictos, derrotó al comunismo y impulsó la prosperidad de posguerra. Hoy, sin embargo, muchos dudan de que es alianza pueda sobrevivir. El canciller alemán Friedrich Merz, conservador y tradicionalmente atlantista, declaró recientemente que lo que entendíamos como Occidente ya no existe. Al mismo tiempo ha pedido a los europeos que prioricen sus intereses. Sus palabras no son más que el reflejo de un sentimiento generalizado en Europa: un enfriamiento profundo en las relaciones transatlánticas, con temores incluso a una ruptura total mientras Trump sea presidente. Europa, además, carece de ambiciones expansionistas, a diferencia de los planes trumpistas de anexionar Canadá, Groenlandia o la zona del canal de Panamá. Esa retórica inflamada ha pasado al campo de la acción. La hostilidad verbal es continua, los aranceles punitivos, el plan de paz para Ucrania parece redactado en Moscú y la Estrategia de Seguridad Nacional que presentaron hace unas semanas es un ataque directo contra sus aliados europeos. Con ella pretenden intervenir directamente en la política europea para apoyar a ciertos partidos antiinmigración que a menudo son también prorrusos. La cuestión es que Occidente no se define por una etnia o una religión, sino por un tipo de sociedad abierta que descansa sobre la libertad individual, la tolerancia, el pluralismo político, la democracia liberal y el libre mercado. Estos valores son los que Europa y EEUU han defendido de la mano en las últimas ocho décadas. Se han exportado además con éxito a otras partes del mundo. Trump simplemente proyecta las guerras culturales internas estadounidenses sobre Europa, donde no se han presentado con la misma virulencia. El hecho es que el orden mundial tal y como está concebido beneficia fundamentalmente a Estados Unidos, que siempre ha contado con una extensa red mundial de aliados voluntarios e incondicionales, cosa que, por ejemplo, nunca ha tenido China.
