In this episode, I talk about the importance of naming and identifying the ambiguous “them” that we don't agree with or that we're made to feel fearful of.CONTENT WARNING:I also process some of my thoughts around current events & the most recent mass shootings, and the many intersections of our culture that collide when violence happens. I try to offer a moment of reflection and a reminder to care for ourselves in a week that may feel like too much.If you want to learn more about gun reform, the statistics of gun violence, and gun legislation that would keep more people (especial women & children) safe and alive, then please join Moms Demand Action. Timber talks with Meikel Reece about anti-racism work, emotional healing, and belonging. Meikel has such a comforting yet commanding presence. She holds gentle, expansive space for women to learn emotional sovereignty and understand the true meaning of what it means to be anti-racist. Meikel teaches us that we can never truly belong to each other until we learn to belong to ourselves. You can find Meikel's work and resources on Instagram: @mixedwomxn And find her embodied healing partnership with Kera Thompson: @interwoven“Start now. Start where you are. Start with fear. Start with pain. Start with doubt. Start with hands shaking. Start with voice trembling but start. Start and don't stop. Start where you are, with what you have. You are enough. You belong. You are not alone. This episode touches on the concept of using your unique tools to chisel, sculpt, and shape life & our collective future at “The Wall”.I wanted to start a new season of episodes with this analogy because I believe this sentiment will echo with each conversation & guest that we welcome in, and to help us remember that no story - no set of tools - is too big or too small.I would love it if you'd join me over on Instagram and tell me one of your unique tools after you listen to the episode! You can find me @timberzaccardi- - - - - - - - - - - - - As mentioned in the episode, I learned this analogy from brilliant feminist marketing coach, Kelly Diels. I believe in transparency around what we're learning & who we're learning from. I will always do my best to credit who/where my inspiration came from when sharing with you!
I'm excited to bring you a guest today - and the first episode ever recorded for the CalmUnity podcast. You're going to hear from Anzana Woodward, she is a successful small business owner, a loving wife & mother, and a joy-filled, inspiring woman. She publicly & bravely shared her journey through stillborn loss a couple of years ago, as a way to help her cope with the immense shock and pain she felt - and since then she has provided space and strength for other women to see their own pain through her story.// content warning: child loss + grief //In this episode you'll hear…Anzana talks about being raised in a household of women and how that has instilled a deep confidence in her Anzana and Timber talk about having a “village” and community in motherhood, and how women & children suffer when community-care is lacking (which is almost always at this moment in time)Anzana dives in to sharing her experience with losing her angel son, Geo.Talking about using social media to share her deepest grief in the same way she shares her biggest joys with friends & family online, normalizing the whole range of the human experience, and breaking down shame & stigma around infant lossTalking about the work that Anzana has done to help her own healing, and to support other families in the child loss communityHow mothers and fathers grieve differentlyTalking about trauma induced anxiety, and being changed for goodMaking peace with the duality of life & motherhood, post-lossYou can find Anzana on Instagram, @anzanastreasures where she shares her beautiful handmade products as well as bits of her heart. And because it's that time of year, I want you to know that Anzana makes the most adorably simple baby bows, and now face masks which have been incredibly popular, probably due to the unique fabrics she curates to make our mandated mask-wearing more fun ;) I hope you'll look her up if you are shopping small business this holiday season!
