Ahead of the big senior championship match this weekend, Stephen is joined in the virtual studio by two legends from Charlestown and Knockmore. Former Charlestown Sarsfields County and Connacht winning captain, Ginger Tiernan and Former Mayo All star and Knockmore legend Kevin O Neill. The lads take us through the build up to the big game and give their thoughts on the key battles and match ups.
One year on from the tragic death of our good friend Colm Horkan Stephen chats to 4 lads who shared many great experiences and times in his company which they were only to happy to impart and relay. Colms brother Padraig, his cousin and Chairman of the Sarasfields G.A.A club Liam Breheny, close friends and Garda Colleagues Declan Casey and Tommy Sullivan all of whom relayed some wonderful stories and anecdotes of their connections with Colm which we're sure many will enjoy listening to #neverforgotten
This weeks podcast features an interview with the Kearney brothers John and Denis who donned the green and white jersey with distinction during the 70's, 80's and 90's. Together with the third member of the trio, Tom, the Kearney lads played hard but fair and never took a backward step on the field of play and could always be counted on to deliver in the big games. They shared some great memories of the many games they played and managed in over the course of their careers with Denis also touching on his career with Mayo which saw him win two Connacht championship medals .The lads were good company for an hour and more and reminisced about games and incidents that still linger prominently in their memories.
This weeks podcast features an interview with Eamon Walsh one of the club’s oldest surviving members who took us on a spin through his life and career which touched some great heights as he enjoyed multiple successes with the Sarsfields, winning county minor and junior championships in 1951, 53 and 63. He also lined out at the highest level playing in 4 Connacht Finals for Sligo and Mayo and represented Connacht with distinction playing with and against some of the greatest names of his era. He also captained Mayo minors to Connacht and All Ireland success in 1953 so a lot of ground was covered with his ability to recall names dates and years making for some fascinating conversation.
This weeks episode features an interview with the three musketeers messrs Divilly, Healy and O’Connell the trio who bring commentary to a new art with their own brand of delivery live into your living rooms when they come together to cover the Sarsfields matches at senior championship level. They tell some good stories about their time in the green and white as they recall with fondness some great times and moments down through the years.
Episode 5 features an Interview with Pat walsh and Eugene Morrisroe who were part of a groundbreaking Charlestown Sarsfields tour to America in 1980. A party of 63 people boarded a plane in Shannon and spent three and a half weeks touring New York, Boston Philadelphia and Chicago and the lads shared their memories, funny stories and anecdotes as we went back to the future for an enjoyable hour’s discussion ...title ...Sarsfileds 1980 American adventure
Episode 4 features an interview with Paddy Colleran on the Colleran family’s long and historic connection with the Charlestown Sarsfields club. The Colleran name is synonymous with the GAA in Charlestown which Paddy touches on as he shares his experiences of growing up in a football mad house.
Episode 3 of this seasons podcast sees Stephen joined in the virtual studio by brothers Fintan and Eamon Brett who chat about their life and times representing the Sarsfields in the 1970s, which involved lots of successes at under 21 and minor level with Eamon representing Mayo at minor, under 21 and senior level . They revisit the many happy times they had in the green of the Sarsfields and touched on Eamon having the distinction of representing Mayo and London in the Connacht championship in the 1970s. Lots of nostalgia in this episode and one that will strike a chord with many in the club and community.
Stephen its joined in the virtual studio this week by two men who gave sterling service to the Charlestown Sarsfields club stretching back a number of years. John and Pearse O' Donohue remain firm and committed supporters of the green and white and they were delighted to share their memories of some great days down the years both playing and supporting the Sarsfields.

Since this episode was recorded, our community of course has been left shook to its very core by the tragic passing of our club mate and friend Colm Horkan. His tragic and senseless death on June 18th of this year has left a huge void in all our lives. This podcast is in honour of his memory, which will live on in our club forever more.Our late friend Colm, Sean Higgins & Robert O' Connell soldiered together through the good times, and the bad times, and they recount those memories with us this hour.
