When you've been in business for a while, it's easy to fall into the habit of focusing on tactics… what to post, what to charge, what to offer next. But sometimes the real growth happens when you zoom out and look at the bigger picture. This week, I'm sharing a conversation that originally aired on Leah O'Connell's podcast Photo Fuel. Leah and I dove into the parts of business that don't always make it into strategy guides; risk, failure, ego, and what it really means to build something that lasts. We talked about creativity, not just in the work we make, but in how we make decisions, and why “burn it all down” energy isn't always the answer when things get hard.If you're in a season of rethinking what you want your business to look like… or just need a good listen.LINKS:Learn more about Revenue on Repeat: The membership model that helps photographers create recurring incomeExplore free resources + tools for photographersResources: New to the podcast? November Roundtable: The Holiday Overwhelm Episode with Paige Connell & Allie McQuaidThe holidays are supposed to feel warm and joyful- but for most moms, they also come with nonstop logistics, emotional labor, and a running mental checklist that never really turns off. And for millennial moms especially, the expectations feel higher than ever.In this month's roundtable, Erin Holland (PG-ish Podcast) and I are joined by Paige Connell (@sheisapageturner) and Allie McQuaid (@millennialmomtherapist) for a conversation that goes right into the thick of it: the mental load, the pressure to make things magical, the generational friction that shows up the minute you walk into a family gathering, and the complicated mix of joy and burnout that this season brings. In this episode we cover:Why the holidays hit so hard when your plate was already full in JulyThe “fun mom” pressure and why it doesn't make sense, when you're the one noticing, planning, packing, and rememberingHow early messaging around anger and emotions shows up again in motherhoodThe emotional gymnastics of blended families, divorced parenting, and juggling multiple householdsWhy social media intensifies holiday expectations (and how to spot what's actual life vs. content creation)What our kids really remember and why it's almost never the expensive or elaborate stuffHow to rethink traditions, drop the “shoulds,” and pay attention to what actually brings joy or easeThe permission to let this year look different than last year (or any year)It's honest, relatable, a little funny, and full of the kind of “oh right, it's not just me” moments that make the holidays feel a little more doable.Listen in, especially if the season feels like a lot before it's even started.Connect with Paige and Allie:Paige Connell — @sheisapageturnerAllie McQuaid — @millennialmomtherapistConnect with Ashley:Website: https://www.ashleyblackington.comPodcast website: https://www.andbothpodcast.com/Dovetail® App: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/dovetail-app/id6744341822Instagram: @mydovetail.appLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ashleyblackington/

The federal government has introduced a major change to social security payments, which allows financial support to be cut off if recipients with outstanding warrants, even before they’re found guilty. The government says the new powers will only be used in exceptional circumstances based on expert advice from law enforcement. In this episode of The Briefing, Natarsha Belling is joined by Kristin O’Connell from the Anti-Poverty Centre who raises serious concerns that some of our most vulnerable will be unfairly targeted in these changes that have just passed the Senate. Statement from a Spokesperson for Minister Tanya Plibersek: The social safety net is a pillar of this country, and we are deeply committed to upholding its integrity. If someone is charged with a serious offence like murder or child sexual abuse and is on the run, they should not continue receiving a payment from the Government. Continuing to provide support in these circumstances is not appropriate, but there is currently no legal authority to cancel a payment. These powers will only be used in exceptional circumstances, based on expert advice from law enforcement agencies. Any impact on dependents must be considered by the Minister for Home Affairs before issuing a notice. It is a serious power, for the most serious of circumstances. Headlines: South Australian police have announced they’ve concluded a new search for missing four-year-old Gus Lamont, Treasurer Jim Chalmers has admitted inflation is higher than the federal government would like, and Robert Irwin has won Dancing with the Stars in the US. Tune in here to this Tuesday's edition of the Brett Winterble Show! Brett kicks off the program by discussing what he sees as a deepening crisis of seriousness in American political leadership. He points to recent comments from Democratic candidates—like the assertion that men can give birth—as emblematic of a party drifting into ideological theatrics rather than governing realities. Brett argues that these kinds of statements aren’t just fringe soundbites; they reflect a broader trend where performative politics replaces practical problem-solving. Brett contrasts this with the type of leadership he believes the moment demands: individuals with real-world experience, discipline, and grounding—people who understand national security, economic pressure, and the consequences of global instability. Brett warns listeners that while some candidates chase viral clips and identity-based applause lines, the world is becoming more dangerous, with threats emerging from adversarial nations and extremist financing networks. Bo Thompson from Good Morning BT is also here for this Tuesday's episode of Crossing the Streams. Brett and Bo talk about all things Thanksgiving — from America’s turkey obsession and favorite side dishes to the most controversial items on the holiday table. They swap takes on green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, stuffing, yams, and the eternal white-meat-versus-dark-meat debate, mixing humor with genuine holiday nostalgia. Bo also shares what he and Beth have coming up on Wednesday’s edition of Good Morning BT, including a visit from cybersecurity expert Teresa Payton, movie reviewer Sean O’Connell with the latest on holiday films, and a special in-studio performance by one of the featured entertainers in the Novant Thanksgiving Eve Parade. It all leads up to a preview of Brett’s own appearance on their show as the Thanksgiving dinner “expert.” Listen here for all of this and more on The Brett Winterble Show! Anderson Valley Brewing Company taproom. Herlinda Heras and Daedalus Howell host another edition of Brew Ha Ha, featuring guests from Anderson Valley Brewing Company. They are the official beer sponsor of the Great Dickens Fair, a Christmas celebration happening at the Cow Palace now through Dec. 21. (During this show, we also got a phone call from Kevin Patterson, manager of the Great Dickens Fair. His portion of this show can be heard over here, on this other podcast episode. This way both guests have their own podcast episode, for their own linking and listener traffic.) Jason O’Connell and Ben Padrone are here from Anderson Valley Brewing Company. Jason is the new owner and Ben is the Lab Manager. They begin by tasting their Salted Caramel Porter, which gets its flavors from the malts that are used, not from any actual caramelized sugars. It is aged for 6 months in bourbon barrels and comes in at 9.5% ABV. QA and QC Jason’s background is in the wine industry and he finds the beer world to be more fun. He says he bought the brewery because he was bored. Ben’s job is QA and QC, quality assurance and quality control. They do a lot of testing on the water and the product. They get their water from wells that are on their property. Anyone visiting Anderson Valley may want to visit their 18-hole championship Disc Golf course. Next year’s Booneville Beer Fest is on May 2 next year. The theme is Godzilla vs. Barkley and there is a Japanese sake connection. Stay tuned for more information before the date. They have already about a dozen breweries signed on. Among beer producers this is one of the favorite events. Fal Allen is Back at Anderson Valley BC Fal Allen is back. Fal Allen is back on the scene at Anderson Valley Brewing Company. He has been the brewer there and a key person in the company. He left the company for a while and was working in New Zealand. Now he is working with AVBC for the moment from Hawaii. Fal Allen has a great radio voice and has been on Brew Ha Ha before. Here is his last appearance on Brew Ha Ha. Next they taste their West Coast IPA, which uses Mosaic, Citra and Ekuanot hops. All seven of the beers they brought today are available at the Great Dickens Fair. SAKE They have a plan to start making sake and to use the best possible rice. Sake is gluten free, which is an advantage for some people. They are experimenting with Sato, a kind of rice for sake. They are also making a sake flavored beer. Herlinda remembers when her friends asked her to taste a large selection of sake to help them get an import company started. Watch out for this to develop over the next five years. Russian River Brewing Co. is open in Santa Rosa on 4th St. and at their big Windsor location. Visit their website for up-to-date hours, menus, beers and more. Ben went to Humboldt State then the Master Brewers program at UC Davis. Jason studied engineering at U of British Columbia and worked in construction before working in the wine industry. He has recently acquired AVBC. Jason describes the situation as “exciting.” The sake idea is getting attention. Sake falls under the TTB brewers license but the labeling falls under wine. It is actually brewed like beer despite that some people in English refer to it as ‘rice wine.’ Visit our sponsor PizzaLeah in Windsor for the finest pizza menu, great beers and the most authentic flavors around!
