In March 1989, twenty-one-year-old University of Texas student Mark Kilroy and some friends traveled south of the border to Matamoros, Mexico to celebrate the end of spring break, along with thousands of other American students that year. After drinking all night at a bar on the night of March 10, Kilroy got separated from his friends when they decided to call it a night a little after 2:00 am. No one would see Mark Kilroy alive again. As one of several towns bordering the United States, Matamoros was popular with American tourists; however, by the late 1980s, it was beginning to develop a reputation for drug-related crime. In fact, Mark Kilroy was just one of sixty people who went missing in Matamoros in just the first three months of 1989 alone. When Kilroy's friends reported him missing to the Brownsville, Texas police a massive search began, with investigators fearing Mark might have been kidnapped by one of the local gangs. It turned out, the truth was far worse than anyone had feared. MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE: Buy Tickets to MORBID LIVE at Radio City Music Hall on June 27th! Lauren Spierer, a 20-year-old sophomore studying textiles merchandising at Indiana University, disappeared in the early morning hours of June 3, 2011, in Bloomington, Indiana. The night before, she had been out drinking heavily with friends using a fake ID; after leaving Kilroy's Sports Bar barefoot and without her phone or shoes around 2:27 a.m., she walked with Corey Rossman back to the Smallwood Plaza area, got into a brief altercation outside, then spent time in Rossman's apartment (where his roommate Michael Beth tried to keep her safe) before moving to neighbor Jay Rosenbaum's townhome. She was last confirmed seen by Rosenbaum around 4:30 a.m., walking alone and intoxicated along College Avenue toward her own apartment. Lauren had a rare heart condition called long QT syndrome that made her especially vulnerable to fatal arrhythmias when combined with alcohol or drugs (trace cocaine was later found in her room, and Rosenbaum reported she had also used cocaine and crushed Klonopin that night). Despite massive searches, landfill excavations, cadaver-dog alerts, and thousands of tips, no trace of her has ever been found; her boyfriend Jesse Wolff and the three friends were named persons of interest but cooperated fully, passed private and FBI polygraphs, and were never named suspects. Civil negligence suits filed by her family against the friends were dismissed in federal court. As of May 2026 the case remains active and unsolved with the Bloomington and IU police departments.   Branch of Hope: Caroline's Rainbow Foundation is a UK-registered charity founded in 2002 by the family of Caroline Ann Stuttle, a young British traveler who tragically lost her life while on a gap year in Australia. For more than twenty years, the organization has focused on promoting safer independent travel for young people and backpackers. It offers free educational resources, safety workshops, school presentations, and practical guides that help gap-year students and first-time adventurers prepare responsibly and stay safe on the road. While the foundation now serves primarily as a lasting information archive, its materials remain freely available and continue to support thousands of young travelers each year. Britain's past politicians were no better—often far worse—than today's MPs.Were Britain's past politicians really more honourable than today's? Or is nostalgia blinding us to just how corrupt, violent, and self-serving many of them actually were?In this episode of History Rage, host Paul Bavill is joined by historian, author, and Get History founder Debbie Kilroy to rage against one of Britain's most persistent political myths: that historic MPs were somehow morally superior to the modern lot.Drawing on over 400 years of parliamentary history, Debbie dismantles the rose-tinted view of Britain's political past, revealing a parade of bigamists, slave traders, duelists, bribe-takers, fraudsters, and outright psychopaths who once sat comfortably in Parliament. From Norman MacLeod kidnapping his own tenants into slavery, to Lord Cardigan's cruelty, incompetence, and vanity, to the systemic corruption that brought down figures like Francis Bacon and David Lloyd George, this episode exposes how power, privilege, and political protection enabled shocking behaviour—often without consequences.Along the way, Debbie explains:Why we keep romanticising historic politiciansHow corruption adapted rather than disappeared over timeWhy reforms like the 1832 Reform Act only scratched the surfaceHow crowds, riots, and popular protest once held MPs to accountWhy the system itself—not just individuals—remains the problemThis is not a defence of modern politics—but a warning against pretending the past was cleaner, fairer, or more honest. Politicians, Debbie argues, haven't changed. What's changed is what they can get away with.About the Guest: Debbie KilroyDebbie Kilroy is a historian, writer, and the creator of the popular history platform Get History. On 14 March 1989, University of Texas at Austin student Mark Kilroy was kidnapped in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, while vacationing during spring break. He was taken by his abductors to a ranch where he was tortured and sodomized for hours before being murdered in a human sacrifice ritual. Kilroy was killed with a machete blow and then had his brain removed and boiled in a pot. His killers then inserted a wire through his backbone, chopped off his legs, and buried him at the ranch along with 14 other people who had been killed there before him. Adolfo Constanzo, the leader of the cult, told his followers that human sacrifice granted them immunity from law enforcement for their drug smuggling operations. The killing drew worldwide media attention and initiated an international police manhunt because of the unusual circumstances of the crime. After the bodies were discovered on 11 April 1989, Constanzo fled to Mexico City but was eventually tracked down. As the police surrounded his apartment complex, Constanzo died after ordering one of the cult members to kill him with a machine gun. Sara Aldrete, another high-ranking member of the cult, was arrested at the scene along with several others. In 1993, the cult members were found guilty of a number of charges, including capital murder and drug trafficking. Several of them, however, claimed they were not guilty of Kilroy's murder and told the press they were tortured to confess. Only two suspects remain at large.ContentsBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

In March 1989, 21 year old pre-med student Mark Kilroy disappeared during a spring break trip to Matamoros, Mexico after being separated from his friends for just a few minutes. But what initially operated as a standard missing person case quickly escalated into an international investigation involving U.S. and Mexican authorities. As the search intensified, it led to the discovery of a place called Rancho Santa Elena, which was a remote property tied to drug trafficking and ritual practices. It was a place where at least 15 bodies would eventually be recovered, all of which were victims of ritual sacrafice. What started as one disappearance ultimately exposed a pattern of violence that extended far beyond Mark, revealing a case far more disturbing than anyone had expected. Our other podcast: "FEARFUL" - https://open.spotify.com/show/56ajNkLiPoIat1V2KI9n5c?si=OyM38rdsSSyyzKAFUJpSywMERCH:https://www.redbubble.com/people/wickedandgrim/shop?asc=uPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/wickedandgrim?fan_landing=trueYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/@wickedlifeFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/wickedandgrim/ Instagram:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wickedandgrim/?hl=enTwitter: https://twitter.com/wickedandgrimWebsite: https://www.wickedandgrim.com/

Come join us for a good laugh and a good cry as we explore the joys and pitfalls of mothering. This conversation centers on Soldier Sailor, a novel by Claire Kilroy. Whether you're a mother yourself or simply want to understand the world of mothering more intimately, this book offers a powerful window into that experience and makes you feel all the feels. The story focuses on Sailor, the child around whom the mother's world revolves. Though the mother is never named, you may see yourself in her, because she is every mother. This novel is a beautiful way to revisit the immense love you felt for a newborn child and to therapeutically reflect on those sleepless nights, seeing yourself and your partner with perhaps a little more compassion, or a little more judgment — or maybe a bit of both. Soldier Sailor is highly accessible and can be read in a single sitting. It's Irish, it's moving, and it's a story you're going to need to talk about once you've finished.

The Warlock's Curse: An Epic D&D One-Shot on Mostly Superheroes This episode of the Mostly Superheroes podcast plunges listeners into a thrilling Dungeons & Dragons one-shot adventure titled "The Warlock's Curse," led by the esteemed Sam the DM. Hosts Logan Janis and Sam Zeller (also known as Sam the Sleeper), alongside Scotty Scoop, embark on a perilous journey as "The Fabulous Three." Logan Janis's character, Lorgan the Dragonborn Sorcerer, joins Sleeper the Elven Ranger, and Kilroy the Tiefling Warlock. Their quest for a shortcut through the ominous Whispering Wood takes an unexpected turn when they stumble upon "The Withered Rose Inn." Inside, they encounter Helga, the innkeeper, who offers free lodging in exchange for dealing with a mysterious, unsettling guest. This stranger, Sir Reginald, is revealed to be afflicted by a Warlock's Curse, slowly transforming him into a "rabid platypus." The only hope for a cure lies in a basin of holy water at an ancient, ruined temple deeper in the woods. The adventurers face immediate danger as zombies attack the inn, forcing them into a desperate battle. Lorgan the Sorcerer bravely engages with a Firebolt, and Kilroy's Warlock unleashes an Eldritch Blast. Amidst the chaos, Helga provides vital healing potions. The episode culminates in a tense moment as Lorgan the Sorcerer falls unconscious after being poisoned by an Imp, leaving the fate of the mission in the hands of Sleeper and Kilroy, with Sleeper using powerful, holy-water-boosted attacks to fight specters. And the Lorgan somehow pretty much saves the day! Hear Sam the DM do what he does best. Her family's bloodline, tracing back to early British royalty, Danish ancestry, and historical figures like Odin and Freya, marked her as a target for exploitation by secret societies, including Masonic and military networks. Unbeknownst to her as a child, this lineage, combined with her innate psychic abilities, would thrust her into a hidden world of ritualistic abuse and mind control programming.Lou's earliest years were shrouded in dissociation, a coping mechanism that veiled her memories until age nine. It was during a live TV appearance on a British talk show, Kilroy, that she first realized she had no recollection of her childhood - a stark revelation that her mind had locked away years of trauma. Raised in South London, Lou's home was a paradox of spiritual allure and dark undercurrents. Her mother, a spiritual channeler, practiced yoga, healing, and automatic writing, influenced by esoteric figures like Steven Jenkins, a Mongolian Buddhist and author, and Andrew Barti, a Grandmaster of the Knights of Malta - who was a frequent visitor to her home and one of her abusers - presenting himself as charitable while orchestrating ritualistic abuse of children behind the scenes. Her father - who was former Merchant Navy, worked at Shirley Oaks Children's home as a maintenance worker and builder, and was a former model with celebrity friends like David Prowse who played Darth Vader in Star Wars. This only added to the complicated family dynamics.Lou's earliest years were shrouded in dissociation, a coping mechanism that veiled her memories until age nine. It was during a live TV appearance on a British talk show, Kilroy, that she first realized she had no recollection of her childhood - a stark revelation that her mind had locked away years of trauma. Her childhood was punctuated by fragmented memories of horrific rituals - being tied up, hung upside down, subjected to electric shocks, and submerged in a cold water tank with a dead body. These experiences, often conducted in underground tunnels and other conspicuous locations, were part of a sophisticated, governmental programming system linked to Masonic lodges and military bases. Valerie French Kilroy was the mother of three very young boys, an occupational therapist and a much-loved sister and friend. In June 2019 she was murdered by her husband James Kilroy. She was 41. That he killed her was never in doubt – he admitted it – but the defence put forward at his trial in 2024 was that he was insane when he beat, stabbed and strangled his wife to death. That defence was rejected by the jury and he was convicted of her murder. For her siblings, including her brother David, Kilroy had committed child harm in that he had robbed three children of their mother. Such a crime they felt would surely mean he would no longer be the children's legal guardian. They soon learned that legally that is not the case. From his prison cell Kilroy is still in the children's lives as their legal guardian, making decisions to do with their welfare, from medical treatments to travel outside the country.David French is now fighting for changes to the legislation around guardianship that would ensure that in cases where a partner has deprived children of their parent, guardianship would be denied.Called “Valerie's law” it is, says French, a simple change in the legislation that would be of enormous benefit to the children in such horrendous cases; he says an average of seven children a year are impacted. It would also give more certainty to bereaved families as they navigate the path ahead.French has written a book, For Valerie, and he explains to In the News why that was important to him and why he is fighting to make Valerie's law a reality.Presented by Bernice Harrison. The Narco-Satánicos were a notorious criminal cult based in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, that became infamous in the late 1980s for combining drug trafficking with ritualistic killings. The group was led by Adolfo de Jesús Constanzo, a Cuban-American who called himself a "palo mayombe" priest—a religion with African-Cuban roots that he distorted into violent, occult practices. Key Facts:1. LeadershipAdolfo Constanzo was the leader and spiritual figurehead. He gained followers among drug traffickers and law enforcement, who believed his rituals brought protection and power.Sara Aldrete, a college student, became his second-in-command and was dubbed the "High Priestess."2. Beliefs and PracticesThe group practiced a twisted version of Palo Mayombe, involving animal and human sacrifices.Constanzo believed blood rituals would protect their drug operations and make them invisible to police.Victims were sometimes tortured and mutilated as part of these rituals.3. Criminal ActivitiesThe cult was heavily involved in drug trafficking, especially smuggling marijuana across the U.S.–Mexico border. They operated on a ranch called "Rancho Santa Elena" near Matamoros, which became the site of gruesome discoveries.4. The Murder of Mark KilroyTheir activities came to light after the 1989 abduction and murder of Mark Kilroy, a University of Texas student on spring break.Kilroy was kidnapped, tortured, and killed as a human sacrifice. The high-profile case led U.S. and Mexican authorities to investigate the cult.5. Collapse and AftermathPolice raided Rancho Santa Elena and discovered numerous mutilated bodies buried on the property.Constanzo died in a shootout with police in Mexico City in May 1989—reportedly after ordering one of his followers to kill him rather than be captured.Several cult members, including Sara Aldrete, were captured and received lengthy prison sentences.Cultural ImpactThe case shocked both Mexico and the U.S., blending true crime with horror elements. It inspired books, documentaries, and films due to its disturbing mix of drug crime and ritualistic occultism.Note: I was very limited on what I was able to ask Sara, due to her being under contract for a documentary at the time.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unforbidden-truth--4724561/support.
