Description Are you Like me? I always watch TV shows and movies at home with captions on. It's one of the reasons I don't want to go to the movie theater. Because I can't do the captions. I don't know if I'm getting old or what it is, but it's just so much better with the captions .I can follow every little thing that's said, and I feel like I'm understanding what's going on much better, because I can hear it and I can read it. That's kind of the idea that I'm tapping into today. There's this psychological theory called the “dual coding theory. It says that we store information in two ways, words and images. And if you put them together, there's a much better likelihood that you'll remember the idea. Words connected to images. Most people are running away from slides. I think you have an opportunity to make incredible slides that can really reinforce the big ideas. From your talkIt's really helped me to communicate ideas better using slides sparingly, but strategically. So I wanna share three principles that really help guide me in that during this episode: 1) Think Images not Text2) Think Phrases not Paragraphs3) Build it LastToolsFor designing slides: canva.comFor finding great free images: unsplash.comCaravaggio's “The Call of Matthew” - https://www.caravaggio.org/the-calling-of-saint-matthew.jsp#google_vignetteLinksFor more information about the Better Preach Podcast visit: www.ryanohara.org/betterpreachBetter Preach Podcast is now on YouTube. The boys talk about the overall plan of all presidents in America. Then they invent an amazing new survival product called “The Goon Blade”. O’Neill tries to remember the melody to “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” and absolutely butchers it. Then we present a new segment: “O’Neill Tries To Remember The Bible”.

DescriptionOne of my favorite questions to ask anyone that I'm interviewing on this podcast is first or worst, I want to hear a story about their first talk or their worst talk. And this is probably the one shot. This is the one shot that I've got on. Better preach to comment on a Pope's first homily, like as a pope, not his very first homily. But anyway, Pope Leo, Pope Leo the 14th, Hauss Popham, we've got a Pope from America. He comes out swinging and I'm so excited to share a little bit about. Uh, this homily that he preached, uh, to the Cardinals.I decided to do this episode for two reasons. One, I didn't wanna miss out on discussing the first Pope born in the us. Lots of ink and airways have been spilled and spoken into about this historic moment in the church, and I wanted to share a few of my thoughts, but I wanted to make sure that we kind of aimed those thoughts, uh, in a quintessentially better preach direction, which is to say, you know, let's talk shop about the Pope's preaching.Link to text of Homily: https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/263981/full-text-pope-leo-xiv-s-homily-at-mass-with-the-cardinal-electors-in-the-sistine-chapelLink to video of Homily: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYhfqwFaHTcLinksFor more information about the Better Preach Podcast visit: www.ryanohara.org/betterpreachBetter Preach Podcast is now on YouTube. Attending the Masters for the first time was a new experience for Thomas Abraham, and it wasn't just about the golf. The 16-year-old from Houston had the rare opportunity to use a public telephone for the first time. "It was kind of cool," said Abraham, who phoned a friend while attending the Masters Par 3 competition on April 9 with his father, Sid. "I've never used one before. I figured it out. If I had to use one of those (rotary) phones, I probably would've had to ask my dad." Augusta National Golf Club requires its patrons to leave their cellphones and other electronic devices behind. In place of those security blankets, there are several public telephone banks of those throwback devices from days gone by. They are a foreign sight for many in the younger generation who've never seen a phone with an attached cord. Abraham is not unlike most teenagers—or adults, for that matter—who are very much attached to the world through their cellphones. At some point, chances are, patrons check for their phone—patting their pockets, reaching for the clip on their belts, wherever it usually is. And when they can't find it, well... "It's kind of panic mode," Abraham said. "We were at 18th (hole), and I went to reach in my pocket, and it wasn't there. Then I remembered it's in the car." He wasn't alone. "I've checked my pockets for my phone no less than 10 times today," said Ryan O'Connor from Little Rock, Arkansas. "I was sitting in the bleachers on the 16th green, and someone dropped a water bottle, and it made a loud noise, and I instinctively reached for my phone. Not there." The line at the public phone bank can stretch up to 10 people deep at the height of the Masters. And while they provide an outlet for those looking to touch base with the world outside of Augusta National's gates, there are some issues that come with them. Like, remembering phone numbers. “Music is completely emotion-driven for me. If I don't feel it, I can't fake it. That's why I keep writing—to stay close to that feeling.” In this deeply reflective episode of The Design Of, Justin Ahrens sits down with musician, composer, and sonic storyteller Ryan O'Neal, best known as Sleeping At Last. With millions of listeners around the world and a body of work that's as emotionally rich as it is expansive, Ryan shares how he intentionally designs not just music—but meaning. We explore how Ryan's creative process is rooted in emotion, curiosity, and the desire to stay connected to what truly moves him. From writing songs inspired by the Enneagram to scoring film and television, Ryan talks about chasing wonder, navigating vulnerability, and using music as a mirror for growth. While Ryan is a musician, his approach offers powerful insights for anyone in business, branding, or leadership. His creative process models how to: + Lead with emotional intelligence—understanding the power of empathy in connection + Tell stories that resonate—by tapping into universal emotions and personal truths + Build a brand with heart—that earns trust, loyalty, and long-term impact + Design experiences that feel human—not just polished If you're trying to inspire teams, connect with customers, or create more meaningful marketing—this episode will remind you why feeling is often more powerful than strategy alone.

DescriptionToday I'm excited to share with you, three things that I've been asked to do at SEEK 25 in Salt Lake City. And I'm looking today both to bring you up to speed on some of those things, because it relates to what we talk about here on Better Preach, but I'm also looking for your input and your prayer. Are you down for one or both of those things?Secondly, this is the last episode of Season 3. We're kind of at a good stopping point and I have some really exciting Interviews coming up that have already been recorded actually that will release in Season 4. If you'd like to give INPUT on questions for Fr. John Burns and/or let me know you'll PRAY for SEEK, please reach out here : https://www.ryanohara.org/betterpreach.
