Galway United aim to get back on track after three defeats in the men's SSE Airtricity League Premier Division on Friday (16th May 2025) when they host Sligo Rovers. John Caulfield's side won 2-1 away in April, but haven't secured a home victory over their Connacht rivals since 2017. Recent back-to-back braces led to Moses Dyer being named the SSE Airtricity League Men's Player of the Month. Following their fourth consecutive Connacht senior football championship victory, Galway begin their quest for Sam Maguire this Saturday (17th May 2025) when they host Dublin in the opening game of the round-robin series. Padraic Joyce's charges are in a difficult group that also includes Armagh and Derry and will be determined to repeat last June's stunning quarter-final victory over the Metropolitians. Former Galway captain Barry Brennan played in the 1983 All-Ireland Final against Dublin and also won five Connacht championships between 1982 and 1987. Mayo used the elements to their favour in the Connacht Minor Football Semi-Final at MacHale Park, Castlebar on Friday (2nd May 2025) to put Galway out of the Tier 1 championship. Oran Murphy's goal kept the hosts in touch before they pulled clear after the break thanks to strikes from Tony Carey and Fiacre Ó Cinnseala ended the maroon and white dreams and put them into the Tier 2 competition for the second consecutive year. Connacht play their second BKT United Rugby Championship game in South Africa on Saturday (26th April 2025) against the Emirates Lions, needing a result to keep their play-off hopes alive. Connacht's first game since the announcement that Pete Wilkins is stepping down as head coach is in South Africa on Saturday (19th April 2025) when they take on the DHL Stormers in the BKT United Rugby Championship. Cullie Tucker is interim head coach until the end of the season with Connacht sitting in 13th place on 33 points, two points behind the hosts, but only three points behind Edinburgh in the play-off spots.
