Welcome back to Wrestling Tonight, your weekly deep dive into the stories shaping the wrestling world across WWE, AEW, NJPW, TNA, ROH, and beyond. Episode 142 may well be one of the most pivotal editions yet. We begin with WrestleMania 43, officially confirmed for Saudi Arabia in 2027. For the first time in its history, WWE's signature event will leave North America in a deal reportedly worth nine figures. Executives are calling it a milestone in global expansion, but to many fans it feels like the monetization of wrestling's most sacred tradition. We will examine what this means for WrestleMania Week, the independent promotions and fan culture it usually powers, and whether AEW is poised to step into the void that WWE has left behind. AEW is carving its own historic moment as All Out makes its debut in Toronto. A sold-out Scotiabank Arena will host one of the most ambitious cards in company history. With a special afternoon start time and a new streaming model through HBO Max, this event could be remembered as the moment AEW transformed from challenger brand to global force. Back in WWE, the long-dormant WrestlePalooza returns as a reimagined flagship event streaming on ESPN's new subscription service. With John Cena colliding with Brock Lesnar one last time, Cody Rhodes defending against Drew McIntyre, AJ Lee stepping back into the ring after more than a decade, and IYO SKY taking on Stephanie Vaquer for the vacant Women's Championship, the lineup promises spectacle. Yet the price point of $29.99 per month raises difficult questions. Can WWE justify charging fans significantly more for leaner cards and heavier advertising, or will WrestlePalooza become a case study in overreach? Meanwhile in AAA, Dominik Mysterio stunned the wrestling world by leaving Las Vegas as the new Mega Champion. It was a controversial finish, emblematic of the uneasy but fascinating partnership between WWE and AAA, and it leaves fans questioning what comes next for both promotions. We also discuss the WWE release of Andrade this weekend. What happened?  The week ahead is equally loaded, with Raw, SmackDown, NXT Homecoming, Impact, and AEW September to Remmember all set to deliver matches and moments that could shift the industry once again. All of this and more on Wrestling Tonight, where the stories are not just headlines but signposts of where the business is headed. And as always, support the Tavern by joining us at patreon.com/theturnbuckletavern for exclusive content, bonus shows, and unfiltered conversation you will not find anywhere else. Follow us across social media @TurnbuckleTavern to stay locked in throughout the week. Until next time, kings and queens, stay out of the alley and away from the pork and beans. Good luck, and good speed.

https://teachhoops.com/ In the world of sports, talent can win games, but it's the steady hand and sharp mind of a championship coach that forges dynasties. These leaders are more than just strategists drawing up plays; they are architects of culture, mentors, and the unwavering heartbeat of a team that learns to win not just on the scoreboard, but in every drill, every meeting, and every interaction. At the core of every great coach is a deeply ingrained philosophy built on clear principles. They establish a vision for what the team can become and communicate it with such passion and clarity that it becomes a shared goal. This isn't just about winning a title; it's about a commitment to a certain standard of excellence. Whether it's the "Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing" mentality of Vince Lombardi or Phil Jackson's "Zen Master" approach to team harmony, the message is consistent and permeates every aspect of the program. A championship coach understands that a team is a complex ecosystem of personalities and talents. They excel at managing egos and motivating individuals to sacrifice personal glory for the collective good. This is achieved through building genuine relationships based on trust and mutual respect. They are masters of communication, knowing when to deliver a fiery speech and when a quiet, one-on-one conversation is needed. Accountability is paramount; every player, from the superstar to the rookie, is held to the same high standard of effort and discipline. Ultimately, a championship coach's legacy is defined by more than just the trophies on the shelf. It's measured in the lasting impact they have on their players, helping them grow not only as athletes but as people. They instill resilience, discipline, and a belief that with relentless preparation and a unified purpose, any obstacle can be overcome. They don't just create winning teams; they cultivate a winning culture that endures long after the final whistle has blown Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

https://teachhoops.com/ In the world of sports, talent can win games, but it's the steady hand and sharp mind of a championship coach that forges dynasties. They instill resilience, discipline, and a belief that with relentless preparation and a unified purpose, any obstacle can be overcome. https://teachhoops.com/ For elite athletic teams, the pre-game warm-up is far more than a simple routine of stretching and shooting. It is a critical psychological and physiological ritual designed to seize momentum before the game clock even starts. A great warm-up is a declaration of intent, communicating focus, discipline, and unity not only to the opposing team but, more importantly, within the team itself. While a disorganized, low-energy warm-up can signal a lack of preparation and lead to a sluggish start, a sharp, purposeful routine acts as a powerful transition, moving players from their everyday mindset into a state of peak competitive readiness. It's the final and most crucial stage of preparation, designed to prime the body, sharpen the mind, and unify the team for the battle ahead. The architecture of a superior pre-game warm-up follows a deliberate and progressive structure. It begins not with static stretching, which can relax muscles too much, but with dynamic movements like high knees, lunges, and carioca to increase blood flow, activate key muscle groups, and raise core body temperature safely. From there, the progression moves from general to sport-specific and from individual to team-based actions. Players engage in individual skill work, like form shooting or ball-handling drills, to build rhythm and confidence. This evolves into small-group drills that simulate game situations, forcing quick decisions and communication. The warm-up culminates in full-team patterns that rehearse key offensive sets and defensive principles, ensuring every player is synchronized and mentally dialed into the game plan. Ultimately, the most profound impact of a great warm-up is psychological. The structured routine provides a familiar comfort that calms nerves and allows athletes to block out distractions, focusing solely on the task at hand. Every crisp pass, swished shot, and vocal call during the warm-up builds collective confidence and reinforces the team's identity. A team that moves with precision and energy sends an unmistakable message of preparedness. The warm-up is, therefore, the final bridge between the game plan conceived in the locker room and its execution on the court. It is a holistic process that ensures the team hits the floor not just physically warm, but mentally sharp, emotionally connected, and ready to impose its will from the opening tip. The Great Coaches: Leadership & Life

Our great coach on this episode is Scott Roth.Scott is a former basketball player who played 160 NBA games with the Utah Jazz, San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Timberwolves. His playing career also took him to Spain, Turkey and Greece. As a coach, he has led teams in Spain, the he Dominican Republic and the the NBA G-League as well as being an assistant coach of the Chinese and Turkish national teams. He was also an Assistant with the the Mavericks, Golden State, Piustons and Raptors, and with the Perth Wildcats in Australia. In 2021, he was appointed Head Coach of the NBA's expansion Team, the Tasmanian Jack Jumpers. He led them to a Grand Final in his first year and the Championship in his third. Some of the ther highlights for me included: Scott's view that allowing the outside influence of social media into your mind can stop you from being vulnerable enough to dare greatly.Question: How you manage the outside influences that can, in Scotts words “drag dirty feet through your mind?” How he uses vulnerability to illustrate the role that care plays in his leadership style, and how he uses this to coach hard and challenge people.Question: How do you find the balance between telling people the truth, but also exhibiting care? The fascinating story of how he taught his new players and club what it meant to be Tasmanian by sending them to work on an Apple Orchard. And the bloodlines group he set up of people that have shaped Tasmanian Basketball, to help the team stay connected to its heritage.Question: What routines do you use to connect your team to the identity that shaped it?If you would like to send us any feedback or if you know a great coach, who has a unique story to share, then we would love to hear from you, please contact us at thegreatcoachespodcast@gmail.com or contact us through our website thegreatcoachespodcast.com The way Scott talks about his evolution as a leder, from Hosted on Acast. Ep 368 Building a Championship Staff by Defining Assistant Coaching Roles

High School Hoops ( Coaching High School Basketball)

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 10, 2025 13:30

Teachhoops.com WintheSeason.com Setting clear expectations and defining specific roles for an assistant basketball coach is one of the most critical, yet often overlooked, aspects of building a successful program. Without a well-defined blueprint, a coaching staff can suffer from overlapping responsibilities, miscommunication, and a lack of accountability, which ultimately trickles down to the players on the court. A head coach must clearly delineate duties, empowering assistants by giving them ownership over specific areas. This could range from being the defensive coordinator and primary scout for upcoming opponents to specializing in post-player development. When assistants understand their exact contributions and how they fit into the larger vision, they can operate with confidence and efficiency, creating a cohesive and powerful leadership unit. The process of setting these expectations should be a collaborative dialogue, not a top-down directive. Key areas to define include on-court responsibilities, such as which coach leads specific drills or focuses on a particular position group (guards, wings, or bigs). Off-court duties are just as crucial and must be explicitly assigned, including opponent scouting, film breakdown, recruiting assignments, managing academic progress, and coordinating travel logistics. Furthermore, establishing protocols for communication is paramount. Defining when and how an assistant should provide input—whether during practice, in coaches' meetings, or during halftime adjustments—ensures that valuable insights are shared constructively without undermining the head coach's authority during critical moments. This structured approach not only maximizes the unique skills of each staff member but also fosters a culture of trust and synergy essential for winning championships. Dr Dish Website CoachingYouthHoops.com https://forms.gle/kQ8zyxgfqwUA3ChU7 Coach Collins Coaching Store Check out.  [Teachhoops.com](https://teachhoops.com/) 14 day Free Trial Youth Basketball Coaches Podcast Apple link: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/coaching-youth-hoops/id1619185302 Spotify link: https://open.spotify.com/show/0g8yYhAfztndxT1FZ4OI3A Funnel Down Defense Podcast https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/funnel-down-defense/id1593734011 Want More Funnel Down Defense https://coachcollins.podia.com/funnel-down-defense [Facebook Group . Teachhoops.com For the greatest basketball coaches, practice is not merely a rehearsal for the next game; it is the laboratory where a team's identity, resilience, and intelligence are forged. While fans see the finished product under the bright lights, the true foundation of success is laid on the practice court through a meticulously planned and purpose-driven approach. These coaches understand that a practice is not a collection of random drills but a cohesive symphony of skill development, competitive fire, and tactical preparation, where every minute is an investment in building a winning culture. They operate on the principle that teams rise to the level of their habits, and those habits are either sharpened or dulled every single day in practice. The hallmark of an elite coach's practice is its relentless intensity and efficiency. There is no wasted time or motion. Drills transition seamlessly from one to the next, each designed with a specific objective that ties into the team's overall philosophy. Great coaches create a competitive environment in every drill, often by keeping score, setting time limits, or creating winner-loser scenarios. This constant pressure forces players to execute under duress, simulating the stress of a real game and teaching them to think and perform when fatigued. Furthermore, fundamentals are never abandoned, regardless of the team's level. Elite coaches obsess over details like footwork, defensive stances, and passing angles, understanding that a mastery of the basics is the antidote to pressure-filled moments. Beyond the physical execution, great coaches use practice to cultivate mental toughness and a high basketball IQ. They don't just tell players what to do; they constantly ask questions and force players to recognize situations for themselves. Practices are filled with situational scrimmages that replicate specific challenges: being down three points with 30 seconds left, defending an out-of-bounds play after a timeout, or executing a fast break against a scrambling defense. This approach builds players who are not just athletes but problem-solvers on the court. Ultimately, a practice run by a master coach is about instilling accountability and communication, ensuring that the team's collective will is stronger than any individual talent. It is in this demanding and detail-oriented environment that players are developed, trust is built, and championships are truly won. CoachingYouthHoops.com https://forms.gle/kQ8zyxgfqwUA3ChU7 Coach Collins Coaching Store Check out.  [Teachhoops.com](https://teachhoops.com/) 14 day Free Trial Learn more about your ad choices.
