James Holland is one of the greatest WWII historians alive, and his new book should be on the desk of every world leader. We get into the three decisions that built the entire postwar order, and why dismantling them might be the biggest mistake of our lifetime. James Holland, one of WWII's finest historians, is the co-author of Victory '45, and author of Cassino '44, The Savage Storm, Brothers in Arms, Sicily '43, Normandy '44, Big Week, The Rise of Germany, and The Allies Strike Back in The War in the West trilogy, Burma '44, and Dam Busters. He has written and presented the BAFTA shortlisted documentaries Battle of Britain and Dam Busters for the BBC, and his WWII podcast, “We Have Ways of Making You Talk,” now has millions of listeners. He is the founder of the annual Chalke Valley History Festival, and I am proud to attend again this year. I love James Holland, and his new book (OUT TODAY), The Visionaries: Bretton Woods, the Marshall Plan, and the Making of the Post-World War II Order, does not disappoint and is critical at this time. Anthony Scaramucci is the founder and managing partner of SkyBridge, a global alternative investment firm, and founder and chairman of SALT, a global thought leadership forum and venture studio. Pre-order my next book, All the Wrong Moves: How Three Catastrophic Decisions Led to the Rise of Trump, out on the 17th of September in the UK and the 22nd of September in the US: https://www.scaramucci.net/allthewrongmoves Here is what James Holland had to say about my new book, All The Wrong Moves: "All the Wrong Moves is a profound, compelling, and deeply thought-provoking book. Drawing on the past centuries of America's rich history, this is a story filled with razor-sharp analysis, wisdom, and pragmatic common sense. Authoritative, incisive, often disturbing, but ultimately offering a path for redemption, it needs to be read by as wide an audience as possible." ―James Holland, author of Normandy '44 Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode, Megan and Isaac take a look at CE5 using Greer's protocols as a starting point but ultimately experiencing something entirely their own during field research for the show.Out in the field, an unexpected surge of energy sparks a deeper conversation about whether extraterrestrials can send intentional light signatures orb‑like bursts of energy that act as communication or presence markers. From there, they explore the mechanics of contact, how genuine energy feels, and why some encounters come across as benevolent while others feel distinctly predatory.Isaac shares his direct experiences with both positive and negative Greys, including the unsettling moment one described demons as “brothers in arms,” revealing a connection rarely discussed in CE5 circles. Megan opens up about the intuitive red flags she senses around certain public figures in the paranormal world not to call anyone out, but to highlight why discernment matters when you're inviting anything into your space. They also dive into the Hynek Scale, how CE5 evolved from earlier classifications, and why the idea of connecting with something larger in the sky may not be as far‑fetched as it seemsChapters In This EpisodeOpening & Introduction: CE5 Setup : Setting the scene, intentions of the episodes and using Greer's protocols as a starting pointThe Surge Of Energy: CE5 Experiment: The Moment in the field during reach when the unexpected energetic shift happensLight Signatures & Orb Communication: Exploring whether extraterrestrials send intentional light bursts as presence markers How Genuine Contact Feels: Breaking down the energetic difference between benevolent and predatory encounters Isaac's Grey Encounters: Positive vs. negative greys, and the “brother in arms' demon connection. The sniping among right of center media personalities in the United States in recent months has been a non-stop exchange of barbs and insults. And it has become very, very ugly of late. A central figure in this weird ecosystem is Tucker Carlson, former Fox News host, now a successful independent podcaster with millions of followers and extensive reach. Carlson has sparked controversy and outrage for many reasons, but we focus in this podcast on his comments on Israel, wealthy American Jews, AIPAC, the Republican Jewish Coalition and his very strong suggestion that Israel and Jews control the White House and, therefore, America. Carlson is outraged that President Trump chose to go to war against Iran and asserts boldly and often that he was bullied into doing so by Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu. Even worse, in acting in this way, Carlson maintains that Trump put the national interest of Israel ahead of America's.On Tuesday, May 16, one of Israel's top television anchors, Udi Segal, interviewed Carlson to challenge many of his claims. It was a feisty exchange, to put it mildly. I spoke with Udi Segal the following morning about why he felt it was important to give Tucker oxygen (as I like to say)? Why amplify his voice? It's not an everyday thing - to interview a top journalist about his interview with another journalist. Talk about inside baseball! But this was important. Udi challenged Carlson for defending Putin's attack on Ukraine as being defensive and eminently justifiable, while insisting that Israel is a terrorist state. Genocidal. We all need to know what Tucker Carlson and those of his ilk are saying and doing because their simplistic demagoguery is mesmerizing a large segment of the population. And that is dangerous. His ideas and views are also dangerous - and based in a malevolent agenda. Carlson loves to bellow that he asserts facts, when he does nothing of the sort. He peddles gutter prejudice and bitterness but manages to present himself as a thoughtful, analytical, compassionate man with laudable values. He is anything but.I spent more time than I care to admit in the last week studying Carlson's interviews and monologues, especially those pertaining to Israel and the war. Some say he's an apologist for Islamists. Have a listen (or watch). You decide. The emergence of a robust independent media sector that is openly hostile to Israel Jews and promotes deeply concerning ideas (facts, as Carlson calls them) is a harsh reality. This increasingly influential cohort asserts that Jews are disloyal, evil, violent. Immoral, and subversively controlling and manipulating America and other nations with their money and wily ways. We have a serious problem. And we should really pay careful attention to this. It's not just a Jewish issue. It's a threat to democracy and liberal societies.Show your support for STLV at buymeacoffee.com/stateoftelavivPodcast Notes* 15-minute edited interview with Tucker Carlson that aired on Israel's channel 13 on Tuesday May 16* Full unedited 45-minute interview with Tucker Carlson and Udi Segal* Unedited clip of Tucker Carlson appearing at the Doha Conference, December 6, 2025.* “Brothers in Arms”, article by Udi Segal published in the launch edition of State of Tel Aviv, May 17, 2022.* Website of Israeli artist Yoram Gal, who painted the original artwork for the launch edition of STLV.* Links to State of Tel Aviv and Beyond podcasts looking at how pro-Israel guests were treated on Piers Morgan's show “Uncensored”* Article in State of Tel Aviv published June 5, 2025, titled, “Joe Rogan, Dave Smith, Douglas Murray, Piers Morgan and Natasha Hausdorff: So much fuss over talk shows. What happens when a book launch stops being about the book? It becomes a room full of stories. In this special LIVE edition of The MisFitNation, Rich LaMonica travels virtually to Southwest Oklahoma Brewing Company as US Army Veteran TJ Baird launches Warrior Dad surrounded by family, fellow veterans, friends, readers, and the community that helped shape his journey. TJ served 32 years in the Army, including nine combat deployments, but this conversation goes far beyond military service. This episode explores the quieter battles: The birthdays missed. The phone calls made from overseas. The cost of service on families. The transition from warrior to father. And the legacy we leave behind when the uniform finally comes off. What unfolds is not a traditional interview. It becomes a gathering. Family members share memories. Brothers-in-arms reflect on service. The “Warrior Wife” joins the conversation. Veterans laugh, remember, and honor those no longer with us. And TJ shares why Warrior Dad Stories is becoming more than a book — a growing platform built around storytelling, resilience, and helping others share their journeys. Topics Covered: • Leadership after service • Fatherhood and military life • Veteran transition • Family sacrifice • Purpose and identity • Resilience and recovery • Memorial Day reflections • Building legacy Key Moments: 00:00 Welcome to Warrior Dad Stories LIVE 24:00 Fatherhood after service 44:00 Family reflections 58:00 Warrior Wife joins the conversation 1:12:00 Leadership lessons from military life 1:38:00 The future of Warrior Dad Stories Some stories entertain. You finally made it home. Carried back by your brothers-in-arms, wounded, exhausted, and trying far too hard to pretend you're fine, you return to the one person who has been waiting for you every night by the fire. Your wife sees through the stubborn silence immediately. Tonight, there are no battles left to fight. No strength to prove. No worth to earn through pain, muscle, or steel. Just warmth. Care. A blanket over your shoulders. Her hands tending to you gently. And the reminder that you are not loved for what your body can endure. You are loved because you are you. So let yourself rest, my love. You're home. A brilliant debut single that defied genre, expectation, and the industry it was breaking into, and a cover that takes it a bit literally, but nails it anyway. Sultans of Swing, originally by Dire Straits, covered by Pink Turtle. Outro music is Brothers in Arms, also by Dire Straits.

Today, Sandy sits down with John Illsley, founding member and bassist of Dire Straits, for an intimate and revealing conversation about the extraordinary journey behind one of the most iconic bands in rock history.John takes us right back to the beginning, sharing the story of how a modest council flat in South London became the unlikely birthplace of Dire Straits. It was there that a chance encounter with Mark Knopfler—via his brother David—sparked a musical partnership that would go on to change their lives forever. What followed was a series of coincidences that feel almost like fate, from forming the band to recording their first demo tape.He recalls the pivotal moment when that demo, featuring Sultans of Swing, landed in the hands of influential radio DJ Charlie Gillett and was played on air—setting off a chain reaction that saw record companies clamouring to sign them almost overnight. It was the breakthrough that launched Dire Straits onto the global stage. From there, John reflects on the band's meteoric rise through the late 1970s and 1980s, as they became one of the biggest acts in the world. With timeless hits like Money for Nothing, Romeo and Juliet, Tunnel of Love and Brothers in Arms, Dire Straits created a sound that continues to resonate across generations. John shares insights into the creative process, the importance of band chemistry, and the unique musical connection he shared with Mark Knopfler. But alongside the success came the realities of life on the road. John speaks candidly about the pressures of global touring, the physical and emotional toll it took, and the moment the band realised it was time to step away. Despite playing to millions and reaching extraordinary heights, they made the difficult decision to walk away after their final tour in the early 1990s—preserving both their legacy and their relationships. The conversation also explores John's life beyond Dire Straits. He talks about his autobiography My Life in Dire Straits, a deeply personal reflection on the band's journey, as well as his eighth solo album Eight, created during lockdown in collaboration with his son. It's a project that highlights not only his enduring creativity but also the importance of family and connection.John also opens up about his passion for painting, his ongoing work as a musician, and his perspective on ageing, resilience and purpose. Having faced significant health challenges, including a long battle with leukaemia, he reflects on life with gratitude and a renewed sense of balance.Warm, thoughtful and often quietly humorous, this episode offers a rare glimpse into the life of a musician whose work helped define a generation—and who continues to evolve, create and inspire. If you'd like, I can also tailor a slightly shorter version for podcast apps that cut off descriptions early, or add a stronger hook in the first two lines to boost click-through.
Ken Duggar was badly wounded in Vietnam. He was hospitalized for months and came home to recuperate before his guilt at leaving his brothers-in-arms behind in the field led him to re-enlist. He got as far as Germany before complications from his original wounds led to his death. Because he died away from Vietnam, his sister, Phyllis, had to fight for years to have Ken's name added to the Wall. She won. This is her story.
The Thirteen directed by Mikhail Romm and starring Ivan Novoseltsev, Yelena Kuzmina and Aleksander Chistyakov. Episode Roundup: The Cowpunchers further entreat you to kiss your boys. Co-hosts Nick Hauselman and Jared Yates Sexton analyze a world barreling toward escalation as the Trump administration stares down a closed Strait of Hormuz. While the American economy teeters, European allies have begun navigating their own paths, negotiating directly with Iran and signaling a massive fracture in the Western alliance. The duo examines the disconnect between military reality and the hubris of an administration that seems to have ignored the tactical nightmares of Persian topography and drone warfare. From the potential collapse of the petrodollar to the suspicious timing of Chinese military sorties around Taiwan, the conversation maps out the crumbling of the American global order. This episode also dives into the bizarre rift between Donald Trump and Tucker Carlson. With Carlson alleging a CIA-led criminal referral against him, Nick and Jared peel back the layers of deep politics, investigating whether this is a genuine investigation or a shot across the bow in a brewing far-right civil war. DINO, AND SAMMY, AND FRANK - O MY!What tomfoolery! It's 4 o'clock in the morning, and these bad boys are just getting started. This recording is a rare glimpse into the real, live, Rat Pack experience - and, the slightly distorted, overloaded sound is just part of the cinema verite. “YOU ARE THERE,” as Walter Cronkite once intoned. The year is 1962. Dean Martin has circled back to the 500 club in Atlantic City, where his career with Jerry Lewis first exploded, and his rat pack brothers in arms are there to support. For anybody devoted to, or interested in this celebrated entourage of 20th century entertainers, you can't get any closer to the actual experience of being there. The banter is not particularly clever (they're enjoying themselves, I won't say MORE than the audience, but equally, at least). There are lapses in taste and attention to keeping the show moving - (an extended drunken improv about stools is one example) - and, though the finest singers of that generation are not always on perfect pitch here, it matters not a jot! The real personalities of these icons is vividly on display. The pecking order and inter-relationships are fascinating. And, as far as sheer entertainment value goes: The band swings hard, the legendary Sammy Davis Jr. sings, dances, and does impressions; Sinatra and Dino croon medleys to die for, and the whole 40 minutes is boffo. Not to be missed!“The 4AM Rat Pack performance presented here was privately pressed on vinyl as a special gift to very special 500 Club patrons. We present this untouched audio from the original acetate as it represents the taste and feel of this historic occasion.”By Don AltobellI will never forget August 26, 1962.I was 24 at the time and after having the good fortune of seeing Dean Martin's appearance at the 500 Club in Atlantic City on Aug 19 -- his first solo gig since his split with Jerry Lewis -- the following week gave me an added treat. Thanks to a drawing I did of Dean, I was able to see his opening shows and also attend rehearsals. And 500 Club owner Skinny Damato introduced me to Dean, who autographed my drawing, which still hangs on my living room wall.Fans knew that Dean's pal, Frank Sinatra, would join him midweek to conclude the engagement. Atlantic City was bursting at the seams, with all hotels, motels, and restaurants jam-packed. At the club itself, tables were pushed together to make room for more patrons. It was a bonanza time for Atlantic City long before the first casino was opened. That closing night after early dinner, I made my way through the block-long line and was ushered inside by a policeman who remembered me after seeing me at so many shows. I didn't mind that I had no seat.Dean was introduced as the star of the show and opened with "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter" followed by "Volare," "On An Evening in Roma" and "Goody, Goody."Then Sinatra sang, "I Get a Kick Out Of You," followed by Sammy Davis' Jr. doing "The Lady Is A Tramp." (Davis also imitated some actors singing the song including James Cagney and Marlon Brando). Then Frank, Dean and Sammy clowned around and sang "You Are Too Beautiful," "Love Walked Right In" and "This Is My First Affair."While Dean and Frank sang, Sammy danced to "I Can't Give You Anything But Love," "Too Marvelous for Words," "It Had To Be You," and "I've Got the World on a String."Then all three stars joined to close the s

At the very end of World War Two, Australian soldiers were sent to Borneo to dislodge the occupying Japanese Forces. The story of their brutal fighting was largely forgotten by their own compatriots, who never understood why they went in there in the first place. It was one of the largest amphibious landings of the whole war, and what followed was months of brutal fighting on an island that was both a hell and a paradise. The operation was called Operation Oboe, and it was one of the most successful military campaigns Australia has ever been a part of.But the men who fought there were never celebrated upon their return home. They were forgotten amid all the questioning of whether all the fighting and dying on Borneo needed to happen in the first place.Author Michael Veitch happened upon this forgotten story of Australians at war in the most unlikely of circumstances involving a trivia night and a grumpy older man.Borneo: The Last Campaign - Australia's brilliant, controversial end to World War Two is published by Hachette. This episode of Conversations was produced by Meggie Morris, executive producer is Nicola Harrison. It explores war, battles, history, modern history, occupation, fighting, death, grief, men at war, brothers in arms, US military, military history, Japanese, Germany, Nazis, allied forces, AUKUS, ANZAC, axis powers, Russia, General MacArthur, great war, fighting, leopards, Borneo, rubber, oil, resources, surrender, books for dad, Christmas books, history books. To binge even more great episodes of the Conversations podcast with Richard Fidler and Sarah Kanowski go the ABC listen app (Australia) or wherever you get your podcasts. Barry and Abigail discuss Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits and sample Wild Dog – Pale Ale and Wild Dog – Shempa Ale from Tiemann Beer in Lusaka, Zambia; Strawberry Rhubarb from New Glarus Brewing Company in New Glarus, Wisconsin; Coconut Key Lime Pie Drips and Mischievous Grin from Barn Town Brewing in West Des Moines, Iowa; and Gallo / Famosa from Cervecería Centro Americana in Guatemala City, Guatemala.Read about how the Money for Nothing music video came to be, or watch the video. We first sampled New Glarus on our season 4 Christmas episode, Christmas Beers (Straight No Chaser and Gifted Beers).Barry pointed out that Walk of Life references other songs, and Abigail compared it to American Pie by Don McLean.Abigail formally retracted a fun “fact” she had previously shared on the podcast regarding artificial banana flavoring being based on the Gros Michel banana instead of the Cavendish banana, which is the most common banana cultivar eaten today. The 2013 SciShow video where she first learned this false fact has since been edited to remove any reference to this hypothesis but points to this article that explains the hypothesis. This Hank Green video first brought the debunking of this hypothesis to Abigail's attention. We first sampled Barn Town on our season 4 episode Barntown (Phish and Barn Town Brewery).Abigail called Why Worry an “adult lullaby,” similar to Calm Down by Cory Chisel and the Wandering Sons. She then entered Why Worry into the Abigail Hummel School of Speaking Smartly About Music with a comparison to Little April Shower from Bambi (1942). She also brought up Baby Genius by Eels as having instrumental similarities. Barry mentioned Rain by Hans Zimmer from Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (2002). The “vibes” in the personnel list likely refers to the vibraphone, which could very well have produced the rain sounds in Why Worry.Abigail asked if Mischievous Grin would count as a “cream tangerine” (we have officially gone zero episodes without mentioning the White Album!).Barry had heard that the three war songs on this album were inspired by the Falklands War between Argentina and the United Kingdom that lasted for a little over two months in 1982. Abigail had always pictured the Vietnam War, partly because of the imagery in Ride Across the River, and partly because Abigail's consumption of war media was heavily influenced by The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien, a novel about the Vietnam War.While discussing The Man's Too Strong, Abigail referenced an in-character speech by comedian and professional Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan.Up next… Version 2.0 by Garbage, Abigail's annual Phone-a-Friend submission, this time with Carlo “from Canada” Sgro, the namesake of Carlo's Corner!Jingles are by our friend Pete Coe.Visit Anosmia Awareness for more information on Barry's condition.Follow Barry or Abigail on Untappd to see what we're drinking when we're not on mic!Leave us a rating or a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify!Facebook | Instagram | Bluesky | YouTube | Substack | Website | Email us | Virtual Jukebox | Beer Media Group

Barry and Abigail try something a little different with newly minted Three-Timer Jeff “Jafo” Shettler, who previously appeared on Jukebox: Wish There Were Beer (Pink Floyd and brewLAB) and Bonus: Pink Floyd Leftovers (Pink Floyd and brewLAB Leftovers). Jafo brings us on location to brewLAB in Carpinteria, California, to open a bottle of The False Prophet he had been saving for over eight years.Watch this video version of this episode!Suggested pairings of brewLAB beers and albums we heard included: Green Tea IPA and Mad Villainy by MF DOOM, Coco Johnny and Time Out of Mind by Bob Dylan, Green Tea IPA and Rust Never Sleeps by Neil Young, Beatbox and License to Ill by Beastie Boys, and Sorciere Noir and Dub Side of the Moon by Easy Star All-Stars.Abigail was intrigued by Mangose and Botanicale Deux. Barry called out Rice Rice Baby.Jafo suggested pairing The False Prophet with Sympathy for the Devil by The Rolling Stones, Bitches Brew by Miles Davis, or Ripple by Grateful Dead. Other suggested song pairings we heard included California Dreamin' by The Mamas & The Papas, Caravan by Van Morrison, Cinnamon Girl by Neil Young, Banana Pancakes by Jack Johnson, and Worst Comes to Worst by Dilated Peoples.Barry suggested pairing Jafo's homebrewed Maple Bacon Bourbon Porter with Darkness on the Edge of Town by Bruce Springsteen. By the way, you can hear our discussion of this album in our episode Dark Beer on the Edge of Town from 2021.Abigail wasn't drinking, but she plugged I Don't Want to Know by Fleetwood Mac.Dave, one of the brewers and the beertender the night we “stopped by,” suggested pairing The False Prophet with (Got) Everything to Shine by Saudade Experiment.Up next… Brothers in Arms by Dire StraitsJingles are by our friend Pete Coe.Visit Anosmia Awareness for more information on Barry's condition.Follow Barry or Abigail on Untappd to see what we're drinking when we're not on mic!Leave us a rating or a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify!Facebook | Instagram | Bluesky | YouTube | Substack | Website | Email us | Virtual Jukebox | Beer Media Group

Barry and Abigail discuss Rockin' From the Grave and sample Pumpkin Shandy from Penn Brewery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (in collaboration with Soergel Orchards in Wexford, Pennsylvania), Jack from Urban Artifact in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake Mind Over Matter from Magnify Brewing Company in Fairfield, New Jersey. We have gone zero episodes without mentioning the White Album or Abigail's personal White Album, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Both Black Magic Woman and a cover of The Devil Went Down to Georgia by Steve Ouimette appear on GHIII: LoR, but Abigail was mistaken about (Don't Fear) The Reaper's inclusion; in fact, Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll is the Blue Öyster Cult representation on GHIII: LoR, and (Don't Fear) The Reaper is actually on Rock Band, which Abigail has played, but the Hummels have never owned.Listen to our exploration of The Munsters Theme's many different iterations in last year's Halloween episode, New Belgium Halloween (New Wave Halloween & New Belgium Brewing)! Today, we also listened to the version with lyrics and briefly discussed Far Out Munsters, the episode where the Munsters rent their home to a Beatles-inspired rock group.Edgar Winter's justification of naming his song Frankenstein because of its “monster-like, lumbering beat” reminded Abigail of Flight of the Cosmic Hippo by Béla Fleck and the Flecktones.Watch the music video for Addams Groove by MC Hammer.Barry educated Abigail about the famous “More Cowbell” sketch from SNL, which centers around the studio recording of (Don't Fear) The Reaper! In looking deeper into the fun fact from Carlo's Corner about salt killing yeast, we stumbled upon this article on the history and science of Goses written by the brewmaster of Anderson Valley Brewing Company in Boonville, California, a brewery known for their Goses. Per the article, some Goses from the early 20th century had between 130 and 280 ppm of salt. Anderson Valley typically adds about 800 ppm of salt - but only after fermentation. It is thought that as little as 100-150 ppm of salt can cause osmotic stress to the yeast and therefore decrease fermentation rates, but the salt concentration required to completely inhibit fermentation or cause death for the yeast are much higher than humans would tolerate as palatable in a beverage.Santana's Black Magic Woman is a mash-up cover of Black Magic Woman by Fleetwood Mac and Gypsy Queen by Gábor Szabó. Abigail would much rather listen to Smooth (feat. Rob Thomas). While Abigail believes Johnny clearly won the fiddle battle in The Devil Went Down to Georgia, John Oliver strongly disagrees. The other song from two-hit wonder Golden Earring you may have heard of would be Radar Love.(Ghost) Riders in the Sky is a cover originally written and performed by Stan Jones. Mark Knopfler is a celebrated guitar player and songwriter. And while his voice may not win awards for being pretty, his world-weary story songs fit his oakey-mellow vocals perfectly. Sultans of Swing of Dire Straits eponymous debut in 1978 catapulted Mark and the band to stardom with gold and platinum sales around the world. Though their 1979 follow up also sold well it didn't sell nearly as well as the first. So the band made a couple of changes. David Knopfler, Mark's brother and DS rhythm guitarist, left the band for other pursuits. And instead of recording in The Bahamas, Mark, John Illsley (bass) and Pick Withers (drums) relocated to New York with legendary producer Jimmy Iovine. Jimmy's connection to Bruce Springsteen led to E Street Band pianist Roy Bittan joining the sessions and really giving texture, rhythm and soul to Knopfler's songs. Though the timeless Romeo and Juliet wasn't a hit in the US, it has become a classic in pop culture for romantic scenes. Expresso Love gives Mark a chance to rip a fun solo while sharing the spotlight with Bittan on Tunnel of Love, Solid Rock and classic rock radio staple Skateaway. Though these songs are great on Making Movies, they really shined on the 1984 live album, Alchemy - one we have reviewed and one of The Wolf's very favorites. If you're a Brothers in Arms or Greatest Hits only fan, we think you'll like this one as the piano, the guitar and Mark's lyrics set landscapes and tell the stories of a man trying to make it in the fast-paced world of rock n roll! (13:24) • My determination was a lot higher than probably 80-85% of the recruits. (16:00) • As a Royal Marine, it was a reality check. All of the sudden, the movies and all that goes out the window, and reality kicks in. (17:11) • Where the Hilos landed, there was no cover, and they left us there. It was as flat as a pool table. We couldn't go back; we couldn't go left or right; so the only thing we could do was a full frontal assault on this compound. [We] Just showed the enemy what we're made of. (32:51) • [As we broke through a door] They just opened fire on the first team that went through the entryway, and I happened to take a round through the neck that hit me square in the spinal cord, and that was me – lights out. (44:55) • The next thing I remember was waking up probably about 3 months later. (46:46) • [My recovery was] hell on earth, man. (46:57) • You're fighting for your survival, fighting for your life, using everything you're got, just to not give in. (47:24) • They couldn't do an MRI because of the metal that was still stuck in my neck. (49:16) • I spent 12 months on my back, staring at the roof. (56:32) • I'm not be the man to let the team down let the legacy of who we are down. I'm not gonna be that soldier. (57:38) • I think my brothers in arms – the support I got from them – is what probably got me through it. (59:05) • I just crossed a point where I decided I'm gonna make the best of it. (59:40) • It's inspired the next generation of Special Forces Operators to go “Damn, look what these guys have done. Look at that legacy they left behind.“ (62:02) • I lost all my physical capabilities, but I still have my mind. (62:12) • I put all my energy, all my focus into education. (64:57) • [Marcus] That SF attitude they put inside of us when we get in there is a game changer. (66:20) • A big part of being in the SF world is being brave, and facing challenges. (69:26) • Living life to the max. That positivity, spinning that into people – is what the brand is all about.) (70:33) • Live life to your fullest, because you never know when it's gonna be taken away.
