Surfing has the power to transform lives. In this episode of The Temple of Surf Podcast, we welcome Joshe Faulkner, a two-time South African surf champion whose life story is as powerful as the waves he rides. Born and raised in the township of Jeffreys Bay, Joshe Faulkner grew up surrounded by both incredible waves and difficult realities. Jeffreys Bay is known worldwide for its legendary right-hand point break, Supertubes, one of the most perfect waves on the planet. But for many young people growing up in nearby townships, life can be extremely challenging. Joshe's childhood was shaped by poverty, gang culture, and the daily pressures of growing up in an environment where many young people are pulled toward crime. In his own words, the choices often seemed simple: follow the path of the streets, or find another way. For Joshe, surfing became that path. Inspired by older surfers in his community and supported by local mentors, Joshe began surfing at a young age. The ocean quickly became a refuge, a place where he could escape the pressures of the township and focus on something positive. Surfing gave him discipline, purpose, and a vision for a different future. As his talent developed, Joshe started competing in surf contests across South Africa. His natural ability, powerful style, and deep knowledge of the waves at Jeffreys Bay helped him rise through the ranks of competitive surfing. Over time he achieved remarkable success, becoming two-time South African Surf Champion and one of the most promising surfers to emerge from the region. But Joshe's journey has never been easy. Along the way he faced personal losses, including friends and family affected by gang violence in his community. These experiences shaped his perspective on life and strengthened his determination to pursue surfing as a way forward. Today, Joshe Faulkner represents a powerful example of how surfing can create opportunities and inspire change. His story shows how the ocean can offer a different path, even in the most challenging environments. In this conversation, Joshe shares his personal journey from township life to national champion. We discuss the role surfing played in shaping his life, the challenges of competing internationally, and the importance of mentorship and community support. For surf fans around the world, Joshe Faulkner's story is a reminder that surfing is more than a sport, it can be a force that transforms lives.
What does it take to think like a champion? This book will change how you think about SUCCESS — and your English. AJ's English Book Club starts "The Champion's Mind" by Jim Afremow. Champions don't just train their bodies. They train their MINDS. And that's exactly what this book teaches — the same mental skills used by Olympic athletes, pro sports stars, and peak performers in every field. And here's the connection: these mental skills are EXACTLY what you need to master English. Confidence. Visualization. A growth mindset. Feeding the positive wolf, not the negative one. This is the FUEL that powers your English speaking success. In this episode, we cover Chapters 1 and 2 — and I teach you important English vocabulary from the book along the way. You learn English AND you learn powerful success strategies at the same time. That's the Book Club way.

When the name Demolition is mentioned, most fans instantly think of face paint, spikes, and one of the most dominant tag team runs in wrestling history. But dominance alone doesn't answer the real question. Were Demolition truly one of the greatest tag teams of all time, or were they simply the right act at the right moment during the boom years of the World Wrestling Federation? In this episode of Legends & Champions, we break down the legacy of Ax and Smash — from their record-setting tag team championship run to their place in the evolving history of tag team wrestling. We explore: • How Demolition rose to prominence in the late 1980s • The comparisons with the legendary Road Warriors • Whether their success was booking, timing, or genuine greatness • Their impact on the tag team division during wrestling's golden era And as always, we finish with the ultimate verdict: Do Demolition belong in the category of Legend… or Champion?
On April 9th, 1892, one man stood alone against 50 hired killers in the wilds of Johnson County, Wyoming. His name was Nate Champion, and what he did over the next twelve hours would go down as one of the greatest last stands in the history of the Old West. Champion was a Texas cowboy who had worked his way north, earned a reputation as a top hand, and made the mistake of filing a claim on land that Wyoming's powerful cattle barons considered their own. When he dared to start a ranch and organize an independent roundup, the Wyoming Stock Growers Association put his name at the top of a kill list. The WSGA was one of the most powerful organizations in territorial Wyoming. Senators, judges, lawmen, and even the acting governor were members. They controlled the roundups, rigged the courts, and when that was not enough, they hired mercenaries to do their dirty work. And it was these mercenaries who surrounded Champion's cabin on that April morning. What they failed to consider, however, was the mettle of the man inside. Pinned down and outnumbered, Champion fought back for twelve straight hours. And in the middle of the firefight, he picked up a pencil and started writing, documenting the attack in real time as bullets tore through the walls around him. Today, we not only celebrate the life (and death) of Nate Champion, but we take a look at what happens when ordinary people decide to stand up to concentrated wealth and political corruption. Parkinson's is not a function of aging, it is not a genetic disease and it is a human caused disease that is entirely preventable. That's what the research is showing and what Parkinson's expert and advocate Dr Ray Dorsey is on a mission to communicate to the world. Parkinson's disease is the downstream effect of the indiscriminate, criminal and unnecessary use of neurotoxic chemicals we are spraying on our food, spraying on our sport fields, using in our dry-cleaning and breathing in the air. Dr. Ray Dorsey is a neurologist, researcher, and internationally recognized leader in Parkinson's disease care, prevention, and health-care innovation. He holds a BS from Stanford University and a joint MD/MBA from the University of Pennsylvania (Perelman School of Medicine and Wharton). Currently, Dr. Dorsey is a practicing neurologist at Atria and Director of Atria's Center for the Brain & the Environment, a nonprofit research initiative focused on identifying and preventing environmental causes of neurodegenerative disease, including Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. He has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications, raised over $60 million in research funding, and was honored at the White House as a Champion of Change. A leading voice for prevention-focused medicine, he is the author of Ending Parkinson's Disease and the forthcoming The Parkinson's Plan, and remains committed to reimagining how brain health is protected across the lifespan.Knowledge is power. How to Trade Stocks and Options Podcast by 10minutestocktrader.com
Are you looking to save time, make money, and start winning with less risk? Then head to https://www.ovtlyr.com.In this conversation, the discussion goes deep into options trading, probability, and the mindset behind consistently profitable trades. The guest, veteran trader John Zachary, joins the conversation to share insights from more than 40 years in the markets. A former aerospace reliability engineer and data researcher, John approaches trading the same way engineers approach complex systems: with probability, statistics, and disciplined rules. One of the most fascinating parts of this discussion is how John built a strategy designed to consistently aim for massive annual returns. The goal was simple but ambitious: exceed 100% per year. According to John, that target has been achievable by focusing on probability-based setups and letting time decay work in the trader's favor.Instead of chasing random trades, the conversation centers on stacking the odds. Momentum, market direction, and statistical probability all play a role in deciding when a trade is worth taking and when it is better to stay out of the market entirely. At one point, John explains that many stocks simply are not worth trading most of the time. The key is waiting for the strongest momentum setups and only trading when the probabilities are clearly in your favor. Some of the biggest takeaways from this conversation include:✅ How John targets 100% to 300% annualized returns using options strategies✅ Why selling options can turn time decay into a consistent advantage✅ How momentum and probability help identify high-probability trades✅ Why emotional trading destroys performance and rules prevent it✅ The two simple trade management choices John relies on: roll or flip the tradeAnother interesting part of the conversation is John's background in scientific analysis, including how he applied statistical methods while working with NASA data. That analytical mindset carries directly into his trading strategy today. For traders using OVTLYR, this kind of thinking is powerful. A Flint lawyer helped end a Jim Crow relic—and the hometown paper barely noticed. We sit down with Robert Steiger, a retired civil rights attorney whose argument before the Warren Court contributed to striking down Virginia's poll tax. From Detroit roots and Michigan training to a chance move to Flint, Bob's journey shows how a small, principled firm can punch far above its weight. He recalls colleagues who marched in Mississippi, the chill of the McCarthy era, and the National Lawyers Guild network that backed embattled Southern lawyers when local support collapsed.Bob opens the courtroom door and walks us through strategy, nerves, and the give-and-take of a hot bench. He explains how the poll tax worked as voter suppression in plain sight, why a 1930s defeat set the stage for a 1960s victory, and how a 6–3 decision ended poll taxes in five states. We talk about the paradox of recognition—headlines in Time and the New York Times, silence in Flint—and what that says about local power and memory. For legal nerds and history fans, there's rich detail: direct appeals, divided argument time, and the Warren Court's role in expanding voting rights.Beyond the spotlight case, Bob shares decades of trial craft and the quiet power of mediation. He argues that facts carry more weight than doctrine, that civility is a professional asset, and that a strong bar culture can keep hard fights human. Honors like “Champion of Justice” and the Herb Milliken civility award mark a career defined by principle over posture. If you care about voting rights history, Supreme Court storytelling, and the everyday choices that shape justice, this is your listen.Enjoyed the conversation? Patrick Champion grew up in Florida in what most people would consider a good family, but as a teenager he began getting into trouble, running away from home, and pushing boundaries his parents didn't know how to handle. Eventually they made a decision that would change the course of his life forever. In the middle of the night, Patrick was kidnapped from his home and transported to Tranquility Bay in Jamaica, one of the most controversial programs tied to the troubled teen industry. What was supposed to be discipline quickly turned into something much darker. Patrick spent nearly a year inside the program where he says he experienced abuse, neglect, extreme punishments, and psychological control while being cut off from the outside world. The experience left deep scars that followed him long after he returned home. In this episode of Locked In with Ian Bick, Patrick shares what really happened inside Tranquility Bay, how that experience derailed his life, led him into addiction and crime, and eventually resulted in a 10-year prison sentence in Florida. _____________________________________________ #ianbick #lockedinpodcast #tranquilitybay #troubledteenindustry #prisonstory #truecrimepodcast #kidnappedteen #prisonsurvival _____________________________________________ Connect with Patrick Champion: Instagram: @championfamily2020 YouTube: @UrFriendlyFelon Tiktok: @lastnamechampionnn _____________________________________________ Hosted, Executive Produced & Edited By Ian Bick: https://www.instagram.com/ian_bick/?hl=en https://ianbick.com/ _____________________________________________ Shop Locked In Merch: http://www.ianbick.com/shop _____________________________________________ Timestamps: 00:00 Kidnapped in the Middle of the Night 03:01 Childhood Trauma and Family Turmoil 08:00 Growing Up in a Broken Home 13:00 School Trouble and Behavior Issues 19:00 My Reckless Teenage Years 26:59 Running Away and Living with My Dad 34:00 The Plan to Send Me Away 38:38 How I Got Sent to Tranquility Bay in Jamaica 45:11 Arriving at Tranquility Bay Teen Program 51:00 Surviving Tranquility Bay and the Troubled Teen Industry 01:03:00 Trying to Work the Program and Planning Escape 01:13:00 Restraints, Isolation, and Punishment 01:23:00 Losing Hope Inside Tranquility Bay 01:27:00 Returning Home After the Program 01:32:00 The Downward Spiral to Prison 01:41:00 Prison vs Tranquility Bay: What Was Worse? 01:51:00 Rebuilding Life After Prison 01:57:00 Recovery, Support, and Healing 02:00:00 Moving Forward and Helping Others Learn more about your ad choices.
