Simon Dixon is co-founder of DixonBaxi an international branding agency. As a designer, creative director and strategic thinker, Simon has explored where creativity, design, and technology overlap for well over two and a half decades. We discuss so many great topics focused on confidence, rejection, and self-control. Simon shares some incredible insights you might not expect someone with over 2 decades of experience to say. His take on accessibility for people not just decision makers at companies is worth the listen alone. We also discuss: - Rejecting fear, self-doubt, and imposter syndrome - The bullshit ways in the industry you "should" work - The reward of taking risks and falling versus not taking them at all - Rejecting the idea of settling and not falling into the comfort trap - The risk of creating bubbles when we don't celebrate differences - How creativity defines who you are - Your job is to focus on how you can improve your part of the world with the skills you have - Finding people to invite to your culture who add richness instead of people who replicate you Listen on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/frequencies-by-wgi-moving-change-simon-dixon-dixonbaxi/id1532557377?i=1000522075598 Listen on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/episode/46VsrqHgV2avlK8sySfHIQ?si=b49b5684c94f45d3

Frequencies by WGI: Unity without Uniformity with Dylan Mulvaney

Dylan Mulvaney is Head of Design at Gretel, where he began as an intern 11 years ago. Today he uses his expertise in translating core values, strategy, and voice into striking visual executions for clients like Vice, Netflix, Knoll, and MoMA. We discuss the importance of trying a lot of things when you’re young. The value of creating strong connections during an internship, and what it takes to go from intern to Head of Design at one of the best creative studios around. Dylan shares Gretel’s creative and branding process. What it’s like to move through a project from discovery, to strategy, to the creative connecting and output. We also discuss: - The importance of making yourself invaluable by widening your scope and contributing to projects you’re not assigned to. - Thinking about the process of a project and start breaking it down and think about what you’re doing and why you’re doing it at each stage, and try to develop systems and templates that can help you along. - Trying to be a bridge between different people and teams in the studio and try to help solve any problems or miscommunications. - Looking around what’s happening in the studio internally, website, case studies, capabilities decks, and side projects. - Asking the right questions at the right time: Does this solve the problem? Is it representative of the client? Is it driven by some structure or underlying principle? Is it scalable? Is it memorable? Are these elements distinct and different enough from one another? And Dylan shares one of the greatest secrets in success: just do the work. There’s no shortcuts. You kinda need to just get up early and put in the hours. You only get better by doing the work.
