This week on Better Buildings for Humans, host Joe Menchefski welcomes architect Toby Witte of Wittehaus—creator of healthy, high-performance luxury homes in the Carolinas. From his roots in Germany to building dream homes in North Carolina, Toby shares how sustainability and soul can go hand-in-hand. They explore why “less is more” isn't just a design mantra, how solar panels are becoming a no-brainer, and why the best homes are built like Yeti coolers. You'll hear how simple choices like south-facing windows and carbon-capture concrete are redefining modern living—and why homes should lift your soul. Plus, discover why Toby believes future buyers won't touch a house that isn't energy efficient. If you've ever dreamed of a net-zero home that feels like a daily vacation, this is your episode.More About Toby WitteToby Witte is an award-winning architect and founder of Wittehaus, known for designing soulful, high-performance homes that blend modern aesthetics with sustainable living. Born in Peru and raised in Germany, Toby brings over 25 years of experience across architecture, building science, and construction in both Europe and the U.S. A graduate of UNC Charlotte, he's earned national acclaim, with work featured in Forbes, Dwell, Architectural Digest, and The New York Times. His book Supersizing Bliss explores how design impacts happiness, and he frequently shares his insights as a keynote speaker, adjunct professor, and podcast guest. Send us a textIn this episode, we continue to look in the Bible to find out what it says about why I am a member of the Church of Christ. We have discussed who built it and is its foundation, what it should be called, how a person gets into the church, and where and when it was established. We noted the scriptures that are recorded in God's word that answered all of these questions. We noted that Jesus said His words would never pass away and consequently we still have those words that guide us today. We also talked about what Jesus said about those words being the standard of judgment on the last day. One of the first subjects that we look at is what the church did in worship. The Bible tells us about how the Christians in the first century worshipped. We note that it was the inspired apostles that guided them to worship on the first day of the week. One of the specified activities was to remember the Lord's death which is called the Lord's Supper or Communion. We look at several passages that record what was done and what it meant. There was also a collection that Paul gave order to be taken up on the first day of the week for the saints. We find that singing was a part of New Testament worship also and we note several passages that Paul wrote. We discuss the fact that no instruments of music are mentioned in any of the passages. We talk about the warning the Lord provided about adding to His words or taking away from them. We will continue this discussion in the next episode by noting when instruments of music were added to various worship assemblies. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying. There is a transcript of this Buzzsprout episode provided for your convenience.

Theology isn't abstract—it's lived. Your life is your testimony. The way you respond to trials, the way you show joy, the way you carry burdens—all of it proclaims who you believe God is. This message equips you to let your theology and your testimony walk hand in hand. I'm inviting you on a discipleship journey into a life that is Christ-centered and gospel-fueled: “I want to be everything about the gospel. “For me to live is Christ and to die is gain… that's not just Paul's story. It's ours, too.” My heart is for you to be good Bible students not for the sake of knowledge alone, but to know Christ deeply and walk in gospel steadiness. In this message I introduce theological concepts like hermeneutics, systematic theology, and biblical theology to equip you to rightly handle God's Word. Listen with the prayer to become confident, Spirit-led students of Scripture who can study and apply the Word on your own. You'll learn the DWELL method (Discover, Wonder, Examine, Link, Live) for a memorable and accessible structure for studying the Bible deeply training you to be trainers. Let's stay connected! What do you do when God asks you to wait? In this Dwell conversation, we dive into The Secret of Waiting—unpacking why waiting seasons are not wasted seasons. Drawing from biblical examples like Abraham & Sarah, David, and the disciples waiting for Pentecost, we explore how God builds endurance, humility, and total dependence on Him in the delay. In this episode, we talk through:Why waiting reveals the posture of our heartsThe difference between passive waiting and active, faith-filled waitingHow God uses “delay” to prepare us for destinyThe promises we forfeit when impatience drives us out of the secret placeEncouragement to trust that “God doesn't plant fake seeds”—if He started it, He will finish itWhether you're in a season of silence, delay, or expectation, this episode will encourage you to stay planted, stay faithful, and stay watchful—because waiting is part of the process that births the promise.✨ Don't forget: If you missed the full Bible study or want to download the PDF notes, you can find them inside The Workshop at soulofworship.com/workshop.

Don't get called for double dribble in the kingdom! In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally shares how to stay consistent in your walk with God and keep your spiritual momentum. In sports, a penalty stops the game until it's addressed. Spiritually, penalties stop our momentum. We're learning to identify and call them out in ourselves so we can keep moving forward with God.Today's focus: the basketball penalty called double dribble. A dribble is bouncing the ball while walking. But once you stop, you must pass or shoot — you can't start again. Spiritually, "double dribble" is inconsistency in our walk with God.Inconsistency kills momentum.God's not looking for weekend warriors — He's looking for weekday walkers. It's easy to be on fire Sunday, but what about Thursday?James 1:8 KJV says, "A double minded man is unstable in all his ways." A double-dribbling Christian keeps picking up and putting down God's ways.Remember Demas?2 Timothy 4:10 NLT: "Demas has deserted me because he loves the things of this life..."Demas walked with Paul, saw miracles, and still walked away. Why? Because inconsistency leads to drift.Hebrews 2:1 MSG warns us to hold tight to truth so we don't drift.Culture is a current pulling you away from God.Inconsistency → Ineffectiveness → Insignificance.(Not your worth, but your usefulness in the Kingdom.)How to avoid double dribble:1. Abide in the VineJohn 15:4-5 ESV: "Apart from me you can do nothing."Branches bear fruit only when connected to the root.God doesn't want to be number one on your to-do list — He wants to BE the list.Don't compartmentalize God. Build your life around Him. He's the center from which everything else flows.2. Practice Makes PerfectLike athletes practice, we must develop daily spiritual habits: prayer, scripture, community, worship. Each time you do, it's like bouncing the ball.Philippians 2:12: "Work out your salvation..."Have you seen someone burn hot, then fizzle? They sprint spiritually, then stall out.Consistency > Intensity.Ten minutes daily is better than a monthly binge. The goal isn't perfection, it's progress. Closing: From Demas to MarkMark started strong, then quit. Paul even refused to work with him. But later, Paul calls Mark "useful to me" (2 Timothy 4:11).Tradition says Mark wrote the Gospel of Mark — from quitter to gospel writer.Failure isn't final.God can still use you.Decide today: No more double dribble. Start the daily dribble.Pick ONE thing you can do daily — pray, read, encourage.Don't be spectacular. Just be steady.Could double dribble be called on you?

"Sometimes it's in the hardest, most terrible things that God brings out the most amazing redemptive stories."— Natalie AbbottToday's Episode: Join sisters and Dwell cofounders Vera and Natalie as they share how they've learned to trust God through difficult seasons. They reflect on times when they've seen God bring good out of even the worst parts of their lives. And even now, in the messy middle of their stories, when the path is totally unclear and the way is dark, they share how knowing God's good end brings them peace. Be encouraged and find comfort that God himself works to transform even our darkest seasons, if not right now, for all time. Isaiah 33 poses a sobering question: “Who among us can dwell with the consuming fire? Who among us can dwell with everlasting burnings?” This isn't about escaping the fire of judgment—it's about being refined by the presence of a holy God. In this episode, I unpack defining traits of those who don't just visit the presence of God but learn to live there. These are the believers who can withstand the shaking, endure the fire, and emerge purified, not consumed. From clean hands to steadfast eyes, we'll explore what it truly means to walk in consecration, carry a heavenly perspective, and build a life that can stand in the heat of His glory. If you long to be part of the remnant that isn't impressed by platforms but is anchored in presence and purity—this message is for you.
I think I've mentioned here and there over the years that I like to choose a word each year to represent where I see God at work in my heart as I step into a new year. In 2024, I chose the word Dwell. "Sitting quietly in the presence of God and my own soul" is one of the foundational purposes of this podcast, and spending an entire year dwelling on the word Dwell helped draw me back, and draw me deeper, into that practice. Throughout the year, I spent time searching the scriptures for verses with the word dwell in them. What I ended up discovering was this beautiful thread throughout scripture, which I believe is God's foundational purpose for humanity. Listen in as I share some of what I found!Read Psalm 91:1-2Question from today's episode: As you sit quietly in the presence of the Most High, ask Him to gently reveal to you any false shelters in which you are trusting for refuge today, anywhere you seek rest outside His shadow. If anything comes to mind, simply acknowledge and confess it, then walk away, allowing Him to lead you to His dwelling place instead.Podcast music written and recorded by Caleb LieuranceWhat I'm listening to right now
All for the Kingdom Podcast – Episode #232: "Breath of Life, Genesis 2:4-17" Subtitle: Man's unique creative purpose to glorify God, dwell with God, and love God.Join Pastor Ben in this insightful expository sermon as he delves into Genesis Chapter 2:4-17, exploring the profound theological depths of man's unique creation, his intended purpose, and the transformative power of Christ's redemption. This sermon unpacks fundamental truths about man's relationship with God, addressing both the goodness of creation and the pervasive impact of sin.Key Scripture: Genesis 2:4-17Episode Highlights:• Man's Unique Creation: Discover how man was distinctly made in God's image, possessing both a physical nature (formed from dust) and a spiritual nature (God's breath of life). This uniqueness sets humanity apart from all other creation, designed specifically for a relationship with God. The sermon contrasts this with false teachings that deny man's uniqueness or spiritual nature.• Man's Purpose: To Glorify, Dwell, and Love God:◦ Glorify God: Man's chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever, a core doctrinal truth emphasized by historical catechisms. This involves both reflecting God's glory and finding soul satisfaction in rejoicing in it.◦ Dwell with God: God created man to dwell with Him, a principle element of the Garden of Eden and recurring throughout scripture, from Noah to Abraham, Israel, and ultimately for the redeemed in the New Jerusalem (heaven). Dwelling with God requires being a people of God, in a place of God, receiving the provision of God.◦ Love God: Man was created with the freedom to choose God or to sin. This includes the ability to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, which gave the ability to distinguish between good and evil. Death results from the desire for evil that stems from this knowledge and the choice to disobey.• The Garden of Eden: A Real Place of Provision: The Garden is not a metaphor, but a real, physical place of God's perfect provision and blessing. Man was placed there "to work it and to keep it," indicating that labor was part of God's good design before the Fall. In the Garden, desire and good were in perfect unity.• The Corruption of Sin: Since Genesis 3, sin has corrupted man's heart, leading to a desire for things that don't glorify God and causing man to hide from God's presence out of shame. The sermon touches on the profound impact of Adam's sin, which brought death into the world (Romans 5:12).• Redemption Through Christ: Only through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ are people made able to fulfill their purpose of glorifying and rejoicing in God. Jesus, unlike Adam, knew the distinction between good and evil but lived a sinless life, offering salvation through his perfect obedience (Romans 5:19, Hebrews 4). The good news of the gospel is not man's free choice of God, but God's sovereign grace in choosing to so love the world that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him would not perish but have eternal life.Find Out More:Ben Smith is the pastor of Central Baptist Church, Waycross, GA.Additional podcasts, books, and downloadable PDFs of Pastor Ben's sermon outlines and manuscripts are available at http://bensmithsr.org.You can find information about Central Baptist Church at cbcwaycross.org.This sermon was originally preached on 9/7/2025.

O, Spirit of God dwell in us. Is not this also a covenant promise, "I will put My Spirit within you, and I will make you to walk in My ways." We...pray...for those who are unfamiliar with the work of the Spirit of God, who have never owned their God, who have lived as if there were no God.

Today's Promise: John 15:9 If there is one word that summarizes the Gospel, it's love. From the beginning, love was the central theme of Christianity. God loves you so much that He gave His Son. Jesus said, as much as God loves Him, He loves us. Now here is the twist. Jesus loves you as much as God loves Him. Jesus invites you to live in His love. To "abide" is to connect or rest. We are to rest and "make ourselves at home" in the love of Christ. As you abide in His love, His love flows through you to the world around you.

From Genesis 1-2 we learn we were created for the presence of God. Therein is our joy, purpose, life. There is not something else. There is not a second and a third thing. To be in and enjoy a right relationship with God is life and life eternal. But Genesis 3, we sinned. Sin makes us entirely not like God and His presence, His heaven. It makes us a life in rebellion. Sin is not just rules we broke, but nature of unholy rebellion. How can the very unholy come into the Holy? When you hear David say, 'Lord,' don’t hear a title or a salutation. Hear a cry from the depths of his soul. Who, my Lord, can dwell with you? Who can enjoy intimacy with their Creator? And then we get an answer, ten actually. Ten answers, character qualities, actions that answer who can live with God.
Why is trusting in the Lord worthwhile? In this message, pastor Jeremy Writebol exposes us to the promises and power of God's protective care for his people.
