This episode introduces the new NBAA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Manual and why it's a big deal for business aviation. Dylan and Max are joined by Brian Small of FlightSafety International and Tim Schoenauer of CAE to explain how the manual was developed, who it's for, and how operators can actually use it—not just shelf it. They break down the regulatory intent, training implications, and where this fits into real-world Part 91 and 135 operations. If you've ever wondered what "good SOPs" are supposed to look like, this is the starting point. The discussion covers the evolving role of debt as an instrument of empire, the emergence of sovereign wealth funds, and the ways financial instruments and flows of money subtly shape political realities and people's lives in the region. Professor Elyachar discusses her latest book "On the Semicivilized: Coloniality, Finance, and Embodied Sovereignty in Cairo" and how she challenges the notion that global finance originated solely in the West. The conversation delves into the history of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and their role in economic development, particularly in "pushing debt as a form of development". A Professor of Anthropology at Princeton University whose work examines the intersection of finance, political economy, and the Arab world, Elyachar also shares her family's history as sarrafs (bankers/brokers) in Ottoman Palestine, and how this tradition sparked her interest in finance and economics. She also explains the historical legal category of the "semicivilized," a term used in international law to describe the Ottoman Empire and other non-European powers who were recognized as legitimate sovereigns. 01:13 Introduction 03:31 A Family History of Finance in Ottoman Palestine06:52 Fieldwork in Cairo: Informal Economy and Debt10:15 The Problem of NGOs and "NGOification"15:53 Debt As an Instrument of Empire23:28 Defining "Semicivilized"37:57 The Central Question: Finance and Violence50:12 The Rise of Sovereign Wealth Funds56:11 Turning Debt Into Assets Julia Elyachar is an anthropologist, political economist, and award winning author. “Descending the stairs, I was disappointed to see a two-digit number in the wait time for the train. the music started a couple minutes later. they had a pedal and an instrument i couldn’t identify. i wouldn’t say it was dreamy, and there’s not really a synonym i can find that captures it. maybe bewitching. the train came, they packed up and left, then my train came, and since then i’ve been googling things like “synth you can blow into” or “digital woodwind” trying to find out more.”
The Breggin Hour Health, Lifestyle, The Breggin Hour https://mega.nz/file/ssYxVKbb#udRyxCNQSvR3ZZC70Dlsj_N0ct1I43isH-6xWra1wxc Dr. Lynn Lafferty grew up around her two grandmothers, both farmers, learning lessons that helped chart the course in her life decades later. Some family stories had a lifelong impact. One great-grandmother was the local healer in her small rural community. When the Spanish Flu erupted, she used an elixir of elderberries and alcohol to treat 20 community members who fell ill with that dread disease. Not a single patient died. Lynn reports that no one in her extended family fell ill from that disease, and attributes their resistance to the nightly dose of elderberry elixir for all family members, which was a family ritual. Dr. Lafferty is an endowed professor at Nova Southeastern University, teaching pharmacy and medical students. She attributes her career choice to influences from her grandmothers, who inspired her direction in life. The life lessons she learned also drove her to seek rational solutions to the SARS-CoV-2 virus when it broke out, causing COVID in 2020. Challenges in Medical Education Dr Lafferty highlighted her concerns about the lack of education on essential nutrients and the influence of hospital protocols over resident physicians. She described a concerning mindset among psychiatry residents who expressed fear of harming patients with prescribed drugs, despite their extensive training and financial investment. Dr. Lafferty also recounted a personal experience involving her brother's inadequate medical care, emphasizing the limitations imposed by hospital protocols and the lack of knowledge about basic treatments like magnesium deficiency. Truth and Love's Transformative Power The Breggins discussed with Dr. Lafferty her experience speaking truthfully about healthcare issues, including her confrontation with a dean over her statements about Lipitor's side effects. She expressed her commitment to speaking the truth and her belief that she is on a mission. Dr. Breggin and Ginger Breggin also confirmed their personal sense of being called to do their work. Authoritarian Control in Medical Progress Peter and Lynn discussed the impact of authoritarian control over medical institutions, highlighting how innovative doctors are being suppressed, which hampers progress in medicine and patient care. Pharmacists vs. Physicians: Education Gaps Dr. Breggin and Dr. Lafferty also examined differences between primary care doctors and pharmacists, Dr. Lafferty declaring that pharmacists are more science-based and less authoritarian than medical doctors. They highlighted how medical students receive limited pharmacology training compared to the comprehensive education received in the past. Therapy, Medication, and Scientific Reasoning Dr. Breggin raised the issue of the importance of therapy over medication for psychiatric and psychological issues and the potential benefits of pharmacists working with psychiatrists to monitor psychiatric drug side effects. Listening to the patient who is sitting in front of you and looking beyond the latest big pharmaceutical options were two important highlights that came out of the conversation. Seeking treatments with the least potential for harm and understanding the range of treatments available in the natural world of foods and supplements were also emphasized. Dr. Lafferty can be found at her website. She offers courses, some free. Her newest training is a 10-session course, held once a week, that gives a basic understanding of how to take care of yourself and your family best. Participants review body systems, how they work, and foods, herbs, and supplements that can help the body return to balance. ______ Learn more about Dr. Peter Breggin's work: https://breggin.com/ See more from Dr. Breggin's long history of being a reformer in psychiatry: https://breggin.com/Psychiatry-as-an-Instrument-of-Social-and-Political-Control Psychiatric Drug Withdrawal, the how-to manual @ https://breggin.com/a-guide-for-prescribers-therapists-patients-and-their-families/ Get a copy of Dr. Breggin's latest book: WHO ARE THE “THEY” - THESE GLOBAL PREDATORS? Wer entscheidet, was Entwicklung überhaupt ist?
When most of us hear " dulcimer," we think of Irish peasants in the Middle Ages. Or maybe that "damsel with a dulcimer" in the poem "Kubla Khan." The actual hammered dulcimer, however, is something else entirely. It's a unique blend of percussion and stringed instruments with ancient roots across the world. And it's capable of creating gorgeous music. Musician and composer Joshua Messick joins the table to discuss all things hammered dulcimer. He's composed ten albums of hammered dulcimer music, and played for the soundtracks of major movies and video games. He explains the hammered dulcimer's unique ability to tell a story through its music.

OG GOAT to AI Google's version called Gemini,OG GOAT: Can I classify AI-generated singing as a digital instrument?GEMINI: Yes, you absolutely can classify AI-generated singing as a digital instrument or a type of virtual instrument, especially in the context of music production and performance. The classification is based on how the technology functions and how it is used musically. Why AI Singing is a Digital InstrumentA digital instrument (often a Virtual Instrument or VST/AU plugin in music software) is a device or piece of software that relies on computing power and electronic signals to generate musical sounds.AI singing synthesis fits this definition because: * It Generates Sound: The AI is a system that creates a musical output (the vocal track) that did not exist acoustically beforehand. * It's Controllable: Users provide input—typically MIDI data (notes, pitch, timing), and text (lyrics, or a text-based prompt for style/expression)—to the AI system to perform the singing. This is similar to how a producer uses a MIDI keyboard and a software synthesizer (a classic digital instrument) to generate a bassline or a piano part. * It Replaces an Acoustic Element: While a human voice is an acoustic instrument, the AI system acts as a digital stand-in, much like a software sampler is a digital replacement for a real drum kit or a grand piano. * It is a Synthesis Engine: The technology, often called Singing Voice Synthesis (SVS), uses complex algorithms (like neural networks or Generative Adversarial Networks—GANs) to synthesize or model the human voice's timbre, pitch, and dynamics from scratch, or by manipulating vocal samples. This is analogous to how a synthesizer generates sounds using oscillators, filters, and envelopes. Digital Instrument vs. Software ToolWhile the AI engine is technically software, its function within music creation is that of an instrument.| Feature | Digital Instrument (e.g., AI Singer, Software Synth) | General Software Tool (e.g., DAW, Equalizer) ||---|---|---|| Primary Function | Generates and creates the source musical sound/tone. | Records, modifies, processes, or arranges existing sounds. || Input | Notes (MIDI), pitch, lyrics, expression controls. | Audio files, automation data, mixing parameters. || Output | A musical performance (notes, words, timing). | A processed or mixed version of an existing performance. |The AI singing generator creates the raw, musical performance (the vocal track), which is the job of an instrument. Other programs, like your Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), are then used to mix and process that vocal track, which is the job of a software tool.Would you like to know more about the different types of AI Singing Synthesis technology?Send us a textWe want to hear from you, Introduce yourself the way you would like it aired, where your calling from State and City is fine as well as which Season, Podcast title and episode.
