Jenny and Zack are a married couple who have known each other since they were teenagers in a very conservative church. Each week on Forbidden Cinema they take time to watch a movie that they were not allowed to see in their childhood and examine it and deep dive print publications of the time to try to get a feel for the culture. Now they turn their lens on the new HBO Max show, Minx. It has landed and we love it. We are going to go week by week to recap and review this amazing new show.

Here we go... It's the end of season 2 and everything is coming full circle. Join the Forbidden Cinema crew as we react to the final episode of the season. The Bottom Dollar crew has split and broken, but we all converge on the printing press for issue 12. Doug is back, but what the cost. Joyce is realizing that her specific version of feminism may be discounting others. The Prigger matriarch is awakening, and may not be what we are looking for. Richie, Tina, and Bambie are coming into their own and individual voices, not part of the crew. This episode pays off everything, but leaves new questions up to the imagination. We end with a call to arms. If you have loved Minx, now is the time to speak up. Post, comment, like, subscribe, engage... this is a crazy time. The future of Minx is in your hands.
The BDP crew is fragmented, maybe forever. The centerfold of the month is a mother slaughterer, so the creative crew has to scramble to figure out a solution. Doug Ranetti is drinking his sorrows away with his birds, but his phone rings and a caper ensures. Constance has invited Tina and Joyce to a retreat at the Hacienda, but everything is not what it seems. Bambi, Shelley, and Richie all come into their own in this episode. The creative team completely threads the needle for maybe the best drama we have seen in the series so far.
The Prigger sisters are going to Vasser and Doug is going to Tina's mom's retirement party. Bambi and Richie are staying home to work on their future and taking all of the drugs. Come with us as we start to reach the climax of the season. There are wedding rings, hammers to walls, a kid's table, scones, NASA developed narcotics, self discovery, and deep revelations into Joyce and Shelley's past.
Vegas, Baby!!! Joyce is on top of the world on the way to Vegas and Doug is on a losing streak. The Bottom Dollar crew is throwing an epic watch party for the Battle of the Sexes. Shelley is in rare form. Fun Tina and Boss Tina are having trouble keeping things in check. Bambi is trying to learn and Richie is trying to grow. There are many dicks stuck in many things. This season is truly living up to the promise.
Ok family, we are half way through the second season of this masterpiece. Joyce is starting to have a little too much fun. Shelley is back at the BDP headquarters. Richie wants to be heard, but Constance thinks the advertisers want to make sure that the female gaze is fully represented. Doug has an Idea. It is fabulous... but is it Minxy?
Guys, six months have gone by and things are changing at Bottom Dollar Productions. Did I mention Rolling Stone magazine is here to do a profile on Joyce. This episode was for us the highest point of Season 2 so far, but don't try to take notes. There is a lot going on. Just sit back and enjoy the episode and then discuss and break it down with us.
Doug Ranetti and the Bottom Dollar crew are back, baby! We open up with Bottom Dollar hosting the social event of the season in LA, the West Coast premier of Depp Throat. Come along with the Forbidden Cinema hosts Zack and Jenny as we talk about the fashion, the politics, the relationships, the celebrity cameos, the glitz, the glam, and the grime of this next episode in season 2 of the freshest show to come around in some time.
God save the Queen of Dicks!!! Minx is back!!! Pandemics, network changes, and buyouts couldn't kill this show. We are back to recap the last season and move forward into the next.
Zack and Jenny return in the main feed to discuss the Netflix show How To Build a Sex Room.
Ok guys, if you haven't started binging Netflix's new hit show How to Build a Sex Room, you should stop right now and go do it. When you are done with the first couple episodes, come on back and let's unpack it. While it is a bit of a departure from movies we couldn't watch as children, we are enjoying going on these detours to cover fun, sexy, entertainment for adults. Join Melanie (or Maggie as Zack can't figure out) Rose and Mike as they restrain the home improvement show genre and spank it on it's bottom. This show has something for everyone and is so much smarter than it needed to be. Come on and let's just join the conversation about it.
Here we go, the season finale of the first season of Minx. We open with the spiciest Jalapeno Handy that Zack and Jenny have ever encountered. Zack commits to developing the Jalapeno Handy drink for next season's opener, probably with tequila. Joyce is back from her time in New York to see what the gang has been up to while she was away. Have you ever taken a week's vacation and came back to work to find everything in complete disarray? The creepy MEN organization with Willy and Franco is coming for the Bottom Dollar crew. We get to see Richie make a stand. Tina faces some uncertain choices. We find out Bambie was more involved with the Manson family than we have been led to believe. Joyce and Doug must decide to collaborate and build something great, or let their work fizzle. They each make a choice. Thanks to everyone who has listened to this first season. We have had a blast recapping and discussing the episodes with you guys. We can't wait for Season2! In the meantime, check out our parent podcast Forbidden Cinema where each week we watch a movie our parent's wouldn't let us watch as children/teens and discuss. We are going to take a couple weeks off from this feed, but check out our socials. We may decide to give another show the Going Deeper treatment.
Joyce is off in New York and Doug is holding down the fort at Bottom Dollar. Are either of them capable on their own. Richie finally realizes what he is worth to the team. Bambie helps Shelly rediscover her mojo. We also get to see plenty more of the GOAT that we intended. Guys, the season is coming to a climax, hold on and give us a listen as we break it down and react.
Yup, you read it right in the title, this is getting a second season. Join Zack and Jenny as we are quarantined for Covid-19 and watching our favorite new show. Joyce goes on the Dick Cavett show to promote Minx while the gang gathers back home to watch. We learn through a series of flashbacks that Manhattan has both joys and sorrows for Joyce, and both come back big time. Tina has the saddest dumping out of cheese ever. Distractions include trying to name quarterbacks in American Football, Ross and Rachel's break from Friends, the last names of Mystery Inc., and Archer. Jenny completely no sells Zack's joke about "Dick" and Zack misses a golden opportunity to make a double entendre when we talk about taking one's ball and going home.
God save the Queen of D###s! Is there anything more to be said about this episode? Joyce starts in a funk and finally stops Joycing it up and starts to embrace the new image of her voice. Doug is winning, but is he starting to feel left out. Tina gets to admit she was right, but also has to admit others are as well. Bambie pushes Richie into social situations that trigger Zack's introverted, type 5, socially anxious fear of parties that are already going on when you arrive. Shelly has taken a step back into her normal world, but the wacky world of Bottom Dollar has a knack for sneaking back into your life. Plus the hosts engage in a lively debate as to whether Glenn was right. Strap in and come along with us as we watch along with our favorite new show in years. Help get the buzz going. This is dropping a couple days late, but because of that we know that Season 2 is on it's way!
Welcome back. The first issue is on the stands and... womp womp womp... underperforming. Watch the Minx crew work their angles to try to figure out how to get the groove back and get some buzz going. Join Jenny and Zack as they have a cocktail and go along for the wild ride.
Welcome back to everyone's favorite show about dongs and lady opinions. This week, the mob gets involved. Join your hosts as we discuss wayward snakes and David vs Goliath. Doug gets to be very Doug-like in a crowded room of mobsters, while Joyce finds comradery in an unexpected place. The Minx crew gets to shine doing a photoshoot without Joyce looking over their shoulders, and Tina has stop the riot that it causes. We are loving this show. We know some of you are binging it, but please come back, slow things down, grab a grasshopper and revisit your favorite episodes with us.
Welcome back to everyone's favorite show about dongs and lady opinions. In this Shane centered episode we get to see Joyce go a little power hungry and then realize that her decisions have consequences. We once again see how this ragtag team that Doug has assembled really possesses the talent to get some things done. The issue is designed, not it is time to print and sell the darn thing. Look out, Glenn is in the audience for the press conference. Also, Doug bets big, like really big that Joyce's point of view will resonate.
This week things start to get scandalous. We get raided by the feds and have to go up against local politicians. Joyce has to learn to accept help from people she does not recognize as having a valid voice. Doug is once again some how the moral compass of the whole thing. We also learn (maybe confirm) that Tina knows people and is not to be f'd with. The 70s cocktail of the week is the Rusty Nail. It is a fun mix of scotch and liqueurs that tastes like something a bit more nuanced than orange juice + booze. We also get distracted by our porn names. We used the FirstPet StreetName calculation and both came up with pretty good ones, but also don't want to pigeon hole you. If you have a better formula, go for it. Make sure to send it to us on all the socials. Watch out world, here she comes.
We go deeper on Episode 2 - Au revoir, le double dong of HBO Max's Minx. Off to the country club for some hijinks with the Bottom Dollar crew. Come along with us as we get lost in this fantastic 70s dream of erotica for ladies.
Minx has landed on HBO Max and it is awesome. Join the hosts of the Forbidden Cinema Podcast as we branch off in an entirely new direction. We are a married couple who have known each other since we are teenagers in a very conservative church and have spent the last year podcasting about movies our parent's wouldn't let us watch and Zack has been elbows deep in explicit print journalism from the 70s, 80s, and beyond. In the midst of all of this, HBO Max releases a new show about a new erotic magazine from women in the 70s... and it has Nick Miller in it. We are there. We watched the first episode and are hooked. We are so hooked we are launching an entire spin off podcast to watch along with the series as it airs.
