A British woman sits in a small room in 1923 with a pencil in her hand and begins to write. She is taking dictation. The source on the other end is not in the room — possibly not in this universe at all. Over the next two years, that source delivers what it calls the operating system of reality. A complete architecture of how the cosmos works, how matter is built, where consciousness comes from, and what evil actually is. The text remained private inside her magical lodge for sixty-six years. When it was finally published it described the geometry of existence with a precision modern physics has spent the last century catching up to. Strap in. The woman was Dion Fortune who we recently discussed in our episode on the woman who weaponized magic and the book is the cosmic doctrine.
In this episode of Strap on Your Boots, I talk about how artificial intelligence is fundamentally changing entrepreneurship, productivity, and the future of work. Over the last few years, I've watched the barriers to building businesses collapse in real time as AI tools dramatically accelerate research, design, marketing, coding, automation, and content creation. What once required teams of specialists can now often be prototyped by a single person working alone with the right systems and enough curiosity to experiment.I also explore the deeper implications behind this shift. While AI makes it easier to create and test ideas, it doesn't replace judgment, taste, emotional intelligence, or experience. I discuss the growing tension between efficiency and authenticity, the psychological impact AI is having on trust online, and why human relationships and reputation may become even more valuable in a world saturated with generated content. The conversation also touches on how AI could reshape software, education, entry-level jobs, and the structure of modern companies as intelligent systems increasingly coordinate work behind the scenes.
This week on The Necessary Conversation, Bob is still on the mend and Haley is galavanting so Chad and Mary Lou wade into conversations about:
Send us Fan MailMost NBA fans already know that Game 7s are where legends are made — but did you know certain teams, refs, and even players might be at a disadvantage before the ball even tips off? This episode dives deep into the hidden factors shaping this adrenaline-pumping series, revealing how refereeing bias, team culture, and strategic adjustments could decide the championship.Join us as we analyze the San Antonio Spurs' unique draft philosophy, how they cultivate consistent greatness through culture, and compare that to other powerhouses like OKC and Cleveland. We break down the wild dynamics of playoff basketball, from Wemby's dominant presence and the Spurs' defensive tactics against SGA, to the questionable calls that often sway momentum — all with real insights for players, coaches, and serious fans alike. You'll discover:- Why the Spurs' long-term draft strategy gives them a sustainable edge- How referees influence game outcomes more than most realize, especially in high-stakes moments- The significance of mental toughness and team chemistry in sealing the deal on game day- Surprising insights into how star players like Wemby can flip the series when they set the tone early- What the upcoming Finals could mean for basketball's future, and why star power alone isn't enoughFailing to understand these subtleties can leave teams, fans, and even fantasy players blindsided come game day. But those who grasp the real story behind the stats and whistles will spot opportunities others miss — making every possession more meaningful.Whether you're a die-hard NBA fanatic or a casual observer eager to see the next legendary moment, this episode is your essential guide to the truths that could decide this season's champion. 0:00 - What's worse? Knowing what you need to do to fix your roster, but not being able to do it because of cap/CBA contraints? Or having a great roster that fell short and not knowing what you're supposed to do with it? Could we possibly be talking about 2 teams in this town?13:22 - The NBA officially approved a "solution" that's going to "fix" the tanking "issue" that's plaguing the league! Here's the thing though. It's super convoluted, bloated, and no one really understands what's going on. And again...more importantly...it STILL DOESN'T FIX THE PROBLEM! How are we still doing this??35:09 - Oh, by the way...the MLB tentatively proposed a hard salary cap and a spending floor. Unsurprisingly, the MLBPA didn't like the proposal. Strap in, y'all. In this episode of Strap on Your Boots, I talk about something that feels less theoretical by the day: the growing impact of AI on business, creativity, and everyday work. Over the past year, I've watched AI tools evolve from interesting experiments into practical systems that entrepreneurs and companies are quietly integrating into their daily operations. From marketing and customer support to coding, research, and content creation, AI is already reshaping how businesses function behind the scenes.I also explore the larger questions this shift creates. What happens when companies reduce entry-level hiring because software can handle repetitive tasks? How does this affect younger generations entering the workforce? And as more online content becomes algorithmically optimized and AI-assisted, why are audiences increasingly craving authenticity, personality, and real human perspective? This episode isn't about fearmongering or blind optimism. It's an honest conversation about the opportunities, tradeoffs, uncertainty, and cultural shifts surrounding AI right now, especially for entrepreneurs, creators, and people trying to adapt to a rapidly changing digital world.

This one is special. Wem and I got to sit down with Dr Wendy Russell, independent play researcher, senior research fellow at the University of Gloucestershire, and 50 years into a career that started on an adventure playground apprenticeship in the 1970s. I came away from this conversation needing to go for a long walk and think about everything. The first half covers Wendy's work on spatial justice for children, the politics of public space, and what it would actually mean to have a statutory play sufficiency duty in England. We talk about what play sufficiency means in practice, why Wales has led the way, and why politicians keep defaulting to playgrounds when the picture is so much bigger than that. The second half goes deeper, into the relational capability approach to playing and being well that Wendy has developed with Mike Barkley and Ben Tawil of Ludicology. Drawing on Henri Lefebvre's production of space, Karen Barad's concept of intra-action, and the relational turn across academic disciplines, Wendy patiently walked Wem and me through a genuinely paradigm-shifting way of thinking about children, play, agency and wellbeing.By the end, the playwork principles themselves come under scrutiny. The idea of play as "freely chosen and personally directed" gets unpicked in a way that I'm still sitting with.Strap in. Press rewind as many times as you need. This episode is a joyride through the garage of Jay and Shayne's past. The High School Years Jay had a Ford EXP that looked like a tiny sports car... until he totaled it. Then came the burnt orange Oldsmobile tank he tried to destroy (and couldn't). Shayne nearly scored a 1972 Camaro Z28 with a 350 engine, but mom heard it start up and said NOPE. He ended up with a candy-apple-red Toyota Celica with a CB radio, which he also totaled. Common thread? Yes. Funny? Also yes.Dream Cars & Coveted Rides Jay's dream lineup: a '65 Mustang, a retro Dodge Charger, an El Camino (car meets pickup truck perfection), and a classic beat-up old Ford truck straight out of a country song. Oh, and the most coveted car of all, which he would take over any Ferrari or Bentley. But Shayne's #1 dream car? He's already shopping. Budget: $14K. Man, I don’t know how else to say this — this one got me. I sat down with Christian Zeron, the guy behind the Theo N. Harris Instagram, and what started as a watch-world conversation turned into one of the most honest, wide-open talks about hunting, identity, manhood, and what it means to find something that actually moves you. That’s the kind of episode this is. Christian grew up in New Jersey selling vintage Rolexes in college and built a marketing company around it. He’s sharp, he’s articulate, and — up until about six months ago — he had zero connection to the hunting world. Then a client invited him on a hunt in Kentucky and, well, here we are. He killed his first turkey this spring, he’s already got hog hunts lined up in Texas and a dove trip to Argentina on the books, and the guy is all in. Completely, unapologetically, joyfully all in. What I love about Christian is that he brings this fresh set of eyes to our world. He’s not pretending to be someone he’s not. He’s a Ralph Lauren, vintage shotgun, lever-action rifle kind of guy who gets genuinely emotional talking about his late grandfather while butchering his first bird. That’s real. That’s the stuff hunting is actually made of, and it’s the stuff that’s really hard to explain to people who haven’t lived it. We go deep on the watch world and what Rolex figured out about aspiration and identity that most brands never do. We talk camo as identity, Sitka vs. First Lite, Yeti coolers, LVMH, Omega, Casio — and somehow it all connects back to hunting, brand building, and what it means to be a man who collects experiences instead of just stuff. Plus, we dig into what I’m trying to build with Bridger Watch and Christian gives me some real, unfiltered marketing advice on how to position it against Garmin and Apple. This is the kind of conversation that makes you want to call your old man, fire up a steak, and go outside. Strap in. Episode Sponsors onX Hunt If you’re serious about hunting out west, onX isn’t optional — it’s foundational. We’re talking land ownership, access layers, terrain intel, and a full suite of tools built for every phase of the hunt: planning, preparation, and execution. The difference onX makes is simple. It’s confidence. Confidence that you’re in the right spot. Confidence that you’re legal. Confidence that you can find your way back to the truck when the day goes long and the country gets weird. Download the onX Hunt app and become an Elite member today. Use code TRO for 20% off your membership. Website: onxmaps.com Bridger Watch I set out to build a better smartwatch for the hunting community — plain and simple. I was frustrated. I kept pulling my phone out 100 times a day to check onX in the field and thought, why can’t we just have the map on our wrist? So we went down the rabbit hole and built what I genuinely believe is the best smartwatch ever made for hunters. If you’re a watch guy and a hunter, this was built for you. Use code TRO at checkout. Hunting Connects You to Something Bigger Than the Kill Christian’s story about his late grandfather flooding back while he was butchering his first turkey is one of the most honest descriptions of why hunters hunt that I’ve heard in a long time. The harvest, the meat, the field dressing — it all becomes this vessel for memory and emotion and people you’ve lost. And it’s something you genuinely cannot explain to someone who hasn’t felt it. If you’ve ever felt your dad or your grandfather or someone you loved in a duck blind or a wall tent, you know exactly what Christian is talking about. That feeling doesn’t go away. It doesn’t get old. That’s why we keep going back. 2. Identity Is at the Core of Every Purchase Decision — Hunting Included Christian has been living inside luxury brand psychology for over a decade, and watching him apply that lens to the hunting world is genuinely eye-opening. Whether it’s Sitka gear, a Yeti cooler, or a vintage duck camo jacket — we are all making identity statements with every piece of kit we buy. And what’s fascinating is that hunters, who largely pride themselves on being no-nonsense, practical people, are actually some of the most identity-driven consumers out there. The trophy room, the curated camp setup, the brand of camo you wear — it all means something. Knowing that isn’t a bad thing. It’s human nature. 3. Lead With the Tool — Let the Lifestyle Follow Christian’s marketing insight for Bridger Watch — and honestly for any product in the outdoor space — is worth writing down. The temptation is to lead with the vibe, the lifestyle, the beautiful photos. But for a product that has genuine technical superiority in a specific use case, the smarter play is to lead with education and product proof first, and let the lifestyle layer build behind it. Rolex works because it’s 90% signal and 10% tool. A hunting watch should be the opposite: 90% tool, 10% signal. Prove what the product does for real people doing real things, and the identity follows naturally.
0:00 - Best two words in sports: Game 7. Buffalo vs Montreal was, as the Scorsese meme goes, Absolute Cinema. Shoutout former Av Alex Newhook for the OT game winner! He's scored 2 Game 7 game-winning goals in the same playoff series. Speaking of absolute cinema, how about Wemby carving up the Thunder on the road in Game 1 of the WCF? Wemby has been just as good as advertised, if not better. He's only 22 years old. Strap in, y'all. He's gonna be a problem for a LONG time.16:23 - Let's preview tomorrow's Avs vs Golden Knights WCF Game 1 by the numbers. Moser actually hit the books and did some research! 33:42 - Last week, Colin Cowherd said the NFL intentionally gave the Broncos a ridiculously though schedule in Weeks 1-6 because they don't like Sean Payton. They're trying to stick it to him publicly. We see Colin's mouth moving...but it's Sean Payton's word coming out.(And for what it's worth, the song I bumped back with is "All Downhill From Here" by New Found Glory)

STRAP IN!!!!! Star Wars is BACK!!!!!!! ............... But a what Cost $$$$$$$$$$ On the latest episode of Fandom Awakens Radio, your hosts David Senden and Kyle Wagner reaction to the latest trailer for the Mandalorian & Grogu, well *sigh* here we are a meer 7 days from the Mandalorian & Grogu, hype levels should be OVER the DEATH STAR this close to the release of a Star Wars movie Thus far initial reactions from early reviews out there have ranged from “Mandalorian and Grogu is a blast on the big screen. It captures everything that makes Star Wars special. Heart, adventure, and scale, while telling a story that actually feels worthy of theaters. This is Star Wars at its best.” To: “One of the weakest ‘Star Wars' movies. An emotionless, predictable experience that doesn't push Din Djarin anywhere interesting. Dull, unexciting fight scenes; just CGI monsters. Action figures mashed together. A long, colorless made-for-TV movie.” HA certainly sounds like yet another Solo: A Star Wars Story 2018 split LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL that went well last time BOTH yours truly and co-host Kyle Wagner are seeing in Thursday, and we will have on the REGULAR flagship Fandom Awakens Radio pod a FULL review in the coming weeks ............... Like our SHOW sign off says which is very Mando influenced obviously You can like Star Wars warm, you can like Star Wars cold, you can like Star Wars Mustafarian HOT but at the end of the day ............ STAR WARS is the Way a BRAND NEW episode of Fandom Awakens Radio starts RIGHT NOW !!!!!!!!!
The Secret Podcast is available exclusively to paid subscribers of The Bulwark. You can join on Apple Podcasts, Substack or YouTube!Last night news broke that President Trump would drop his $10b lawsuit against the IRS if the people who work for him at the Justice Department would create a $1.7b fund out of taxpayer dollars and allow him to appoint five commissioners to run this fund and they would award money to anyone they deemed fit.Oh, and that the list of people given money would be secret. And Trump could replace the commissioners any time he wanted, for no reason. The Trump administration is positioning this as a “truth and reconciliation commission.” Which is amazing. For a decade JVL (and to a lesser extent Sarah) have wanted a truth and reconciliation commission to document accounts of what people did during the Trump era. And now the monkey's paw has granted their wish.We get a truth and reconciliation commission designed to help the people who did the Trump era.As you can imagine, Sarah and JVL have a lot to say about this. The Goodflyers: Lords of the Emerald Coast by John J Domina Johndominabooks.com https://www.amazon.com/Goodflyers-Lords-Emerald-Coast/dp/1665777095 At the Navy's flight school in Pensacola, Florida, a fierce rivalry boils over between two US Navy flight squadrons and turns Personal. It's about to get ugly. Strap in for the high-octane world of Lieutenants Frank Nicolosi and Joe Christmas, T-34C instructors who lead their squadron with precision and intensity. Nicolosi, cool but tightly wound, pushes to keep his squad ahead because second place means a slow death by inches whether screaming through the clouds or crushing it in ruthless sporting showdowns where the stakes are brutal. Christmas is fire to Nicolosi's ice. Intense and unpredictable. Losing? Not in his DNA. Together, they forge a squadron that's as lethal as it is legendary! Then everything changes. A rival squadron surges ahead with a cutthroat edge, led by a ruthless Marine with a combathardened mindset and no moral compass. Pressure mounts for Nicolosi and his fellow instructors to regain superiority, and things spiral into something darker. Unexpected love affairs exasperate matters. And beneath the surface, cracks begin to show. A colossal failure at the command level rocks the squadron and rips a family apart with shocking revelations, a flight instructor vanishes, and a student crosses a line he can never uncross and must cope with the consequences of his immoral actions. In this exciting historical novel, US Navy flight instructors and their student pilots compete fearlessly in the sky and on the ground, and reap the rewards and consequences of their actions in a world where loyalty, ambition and morality collide.
