Dr. Shelbi Nahwilet Meissner (Luiseño & Cupeño) is an Indigenous feminist philosopher and an associate professor in the Harriet Tubman Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park. She is the founding director of the Indigenous Futures Lab, a pioneering hub for Indigenous feminist research and evaluation. Visit https://huel.com/rejects to get 15% off your order With Netflix Electric State & The Marbles releasing - The Autopsy of Jane Doe Reaction, Recap, Breakdown, Commentary, Analysis, & Spoiler Review! Roxy Striar and Greg Alba dive into the chilling mystery of The Autopsy of Jane Doe, a horror film that blends psychological terror with supernatural suspense. Directed by André Øvredal (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, Trollhunter), this eerie thriller follows father-son coroners as they uncover the dark secrets hidden within the body of an unidentified woman. This reaction covers the film's most terrifying and shocking moments, including the unsettling toe bell scene, the gruesome skin peeling autopsy revelations, the radio static eerily predicting doom, and the terrifying corpse coming to life sequence. As the mystery deepens, the realization that Jane Doe isn't just a victim—but something far more sinister—creates an atmosphere of dread that lingers long after the credits roll. The film's claustrophobic setting, disturbing discoveries, and haunting atmosphere make it one of the most underrated supernatural horror movies in recent years. Main Cast & Characters: Brian Cox as Tommy Tilden (Succession, X2: X-Men United), Emile Hirsch as Austin Tilden (Into the Wild, Speed Racer), Olwen Catherine Kelly as Jane Doe (Winter Ridge), Ophelia Lovibond as Emma (Guardians of the Galaxy, Minx), Michael McElhatton as Sheriff Burke (Game of Thrones, The Foreigner). PGAP Presents: UNSW Centre of Ideas –Degrowth

Post-Growth Australia Podcast

In 2024, the University of New South Wales (UNSW) held a panel discussion on Degrowth as part of their Centre for Ideas series. The panellists were Tommy Wiedmann (Professor of Sustainability Research), Bronwen Morgan (Professor of Law and member of NENA), and Sabrina Chakori (CSIRO researcher). The discussion was hosted by former Deputy Lord Mayor and author of Glimpses of Utopia, Jess Scully. The panel explored sustainability and the urgent challenge of ensuring human needs are met without compromising a sustainable and inclusive future. With the kind permission of UNSW Centre for Ideas, the recording of this panel discussion is now available to listen to on the Post-Growth Australia Podcast (PGAP). Tommy Wiedmann has been a supporter of PGAP since our early days in 2021, so it was great to hear him in his element, sharing his research, knowledge, and ideas on Degrowth. We really appreciate Tommy and panel host Jess Scully giving PGAP a shout-out towards the end of the talk. We hope to return the favour by sharing this insightful discussion, which serves as an excellent introduction to Degrowth for those new to the topic. It is encouraging to see Degrowth becoming an openly discussed subject in Australian universities. Tommy also wrote a very encouraging review for PGAP on Apple Podcast (https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/post-growth-australia-podcast/id1522194099). We warmly invite you to add your review. This will help to broaden our outreach and encourage new listeners. Please also feel welcome to contact us (https://pgap.fireside.fm/contact) with your feedback or suggestions for future episode topics. Co-hosts Mark Allen (https://holisticactivism.net/) and Michael Bayliss (https://michaelbayliss.org/)share their thoughts on the panel discussion in the introduction and conclusion. For the most part, we align with the perspectives of the four panellists, but we also provide additional thoughts on how the Degrowth movement can incorporate concerns around population, which we briefly touch on in our commentary. For a more in-depth analysis, we encourage you to read the PGAP blog: “To populate or not to populate? How we can come together around the eternal debate of everyone's favourite vexed issue. (https://pgap.fireside.fm/articles/population)” We also encourage listening to two recent PGAP episodes on population, including Anne Poelina (https://pgap.fireside.fm/annepoelinapatron), who brings a First Nations' perspective to the debate, and Isaac Kabongo (https://pgap.fireside.fm/isaaceco), who brings a Ugandan/Global South perspective. Regarding the discussion on population, Tommy cited two particularly relevant scientific articles, which are well worth reading: Lamb, W. The original podcast of this discussion is available to listen to on the Centre for Ideas website HERE. The sport any dog can enjoy: The wonderful world of Hoopers with Carrie-Anne Selwyn

Let's Talk Dog Business

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 26, 2025 76:17

For this episode, Jo & Vicky are joined by Carrie-Anne Selwyn, the founder of Canine Hoopers World. After discovering Hoopers with her Chihuahua, Minx, and realising it was a sport that any dog, regardless of age, fitness level, breed or size could enjoy, Carrie-Anne wanted to literally tell the world - which is exactly what she did, and then some. To date, she has taught 600 trainers in 6 countries, and each has introduced hundreds of dogs to the sport. Carrie shares her inspirational business journey, including how Jo & Vicky´s mentoring skills have helped her to take things to the next level. They discuss being authentic, attracting the right clients, staying focused and authentic, and much more. KEY TAKEAWAYS Hoopers is a sport any dog can enjoy, regardless of age, breed or size. Dogs love it. Hooper is a low impact sport that dogs can play throughout most of their lives. The sport engages your dog mentally as well as physically. You can start with one simple move and increase the distance, so it is an easy way to build a dog´s confidence. The fact that you can start small and literally practice it in your living room or garden, makes it work for anyone. Hoopers equipment is inexpensive and easily fits into a car boot. Regardless of how good your idea is, turning it into a business is hard. Don´t worry too much about what other people think. Remain focused, stick to your plan and don´t get sidetracked by shiny things. The right business mentor will enable you to cut through the noise and get things right first time. Be yourself and you will attract the right clients. Your personal brand is important. Being authentic is vital. Regardless of how successful you are, you will experience down times, e.g. After CoVid Carrie was very drained, she explains how she got past that. Fear is natural, you get butterflies because you care about getting it right. The best way to get past it is to ask for help, be brave and do it anyway. BEST MOMENTS “This is a really cool sport because all dogs can do it.” “It is like croquet with a dog - without the flamingos.” “As long as the vet says they're fine to be walked, they can play Hoopers - they don't have to go fast.” “If you don't love what you're trying to get out to the world, no one else is going to love it.” “Your journey has been so much about your mindset and about where those blockers and fears come from.” “Butterflies are not a bad thing, they mean you care.” ABOUT THE GUEST https://www.caninehoopersworld.com https://www.tiktok.com/@caninehoopersworld https://www.facebook.com/caninehoopersworld https://www.facebook.com/carrieanne.bush SOCIALS AND IMPORTANT LINKS https://www.tiktok.com/@letstalkdogbusiness https://www.youtube.com/@LetsTalkDogBusiness Website www.caninebusinessacademy.com Community Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/caninebusinessacademycommunity/ Let´s Talk Dog Business Strategy Book - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lets-Talk-Dog-Business-Strategy/dp/1068791705 ABOUT THE HOSTS Meet Jo and Vicky! Ivy's open demeanor and bold tales ignite the conversation, spiraling through subjects that redefine boundaries and skim the edges of explicit storytelling. Ivy dives into her colorful career in the  entertainment world, specifically the ins-and-outs of fetish play, including her unique take on BDSM and the drama behind the scenes that most might not see. There's raw honesty as she strategizes about future projects where k**k is more authentically represented. Sarah LaBrie was in her early thirties when her mother was found on a highway outside Houston, screaming at passing cars and paranoid that she would be murdered by invisible assailants. She was ultimately diagnosed with schizophrenia—and in an instant, the entirety of LaBrie's childhood came into sharp focus. In her harrowing, clear-sighted, and painfully honest debut memoir, NO ONE GETS TO FALL APART (Publication Date: October 22, 2024; $27.99), LaBrie traces a year spent grappling with the enormity of her mother's diagnosis. With compassion and vulnerability, she reflects on the consequences of being raised by someone with mental illness, processes her own obsessive behavior and unhealthy ambition, and examines her fear of inheriting the disorder or passing it along to her own future children.   In childhood, LaBrie's relationship with her mother is marked at turns by violence and all-consuming closeness. She's erratic, easily angered and cruel, but also loving and protective, committed to LaBrie's education and artistry and to making huge sacrifices as a single mom so her daughter could lead a stable life. Digging into the events that led to her psychotic break, LaBrie traces the line from the dysphoria that plagued her great-grandmother, a granddaughter of slaves, to her own experience with depression as a scholarship student at Brown. At the same time, she navigates a decades-long fixation on a novel she can't finish but can't abandon, her complicated feelings about her white partner, and a fraught friendship colored by betrayal. Spanning the globe from Houston's Third Ward to Paris to New York to Los Angeles, and touching on work by James Baldwin, Franz Kafka and Walter Benjamin, NO ONE GETS TO FALL APART is an unflinching chronicle of one woman's attempt to forge a new future by making sense of history.     A writer from Houston, Sarah LaBrie's libretti have been performed at Walt Disney Concert Hall, and her fiction appears in Guernica, The Literary Review, and the Los Angeles Review of Books. She now lives in Los Angeles where she has written for television shows including Minx, Blindspotting, Made for Love, and Love, Victor. “In 2017, I learned from my grandmother that my mother had been experiencing schizophrenic delusions for months,” she explains. “We were estranged and no one told me, because no one thought it was a big deal. That same year, my best friend shared private information with the world that I wasn't ready to reveal, then ‘broke up with me' when I found myself unable to talk about it with her. I was working a job I hated while my friends all seemed to be coming into their own, and my partner, the son of prominent psychology professors from Boston, had grown up with a life so different from mine I didn't think he would ever understand. I started writing the book out of loneliness. I wanted to reconstruct all these broken parts into layers as opposed to puzzle pieces. I wanted to convey that there are many different ways to understand the past and how it makes us who we are.”

The X film series consists of American horror films based on an original story written by Ti West. The series includes the original film X, its prequel Pearl (both 2022), and its sequel MaXXXine (2024). The overall plot of the movies centers on two characters, Maxine "Max" Minx and Pearl, both portrayed by Mia Goth. The first film, X, was met with critical acclaim,[1] and was a success at the box office. A tribute to slasher films of the past, the picture was deemed a horror film classic and impactful, anticipating its influence on the future of the genre.[2][3][4][5][6] Its prequel, Pearl, was also critically acclaimed, with some stating that it inadvertently improved the premise of the previous installment, and was also a success at the box office.[7][8] The third film, MaXXXine, was released on July 5, 2024.[9] It received generally favorable reviews from critics and became the highest grossing film in the series.[10] Pearl (subtitled An X-traordinary Origin Story) is a 2022 American psychological horror film directed, produced, and edited by Ti West, and co-written by West and Mia Goth. It is the second installment in West's X film series and a prequel to X (2022). Goth reprises her role as the title character, with a supporting cast featuring David Corenswet, Tandi Wright, Matthew Sunderland, and Emma Jenkins-Purro. Pearl serves as an origin story for the title villain, whose fervent aspiration to become a movie star led to her committing violent acts on her family's Texas homestead in 1918. West began co-writing a prequel script stemming from his collaboration with Goth while filming X. Motivated by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on cinema, filming started in New Zealand immediately after the first film, using X sets and the Avatar: The Way of Water crew and taking pandemic safety precautions. Pearl drew inspiration from the works of Douglas Sirk, Technicolor films like The Wizard of Oz (1939) and Mary Poppins (1964), and Disney films. It had its world premiere at the 79th Venice International Film Festival on September 3, 2022, and was released in theaters in the United States on September 16, 2022, by A24. The film grossed over $10 million and received positive reviews from critics, with Goth's performance receiving considerable praise. A direct sequel to X, titled MaXXXine, was released on July 5, 2024, with Goth reprising her second role from the first film. MaXXXine is a 2024 American horror film written, directed, produced, and edited by Ti West. News and Notes About "Magic Stocking" Magic Stocking first premiered on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries December 6, 2015. David Winning directed “Magic Stocking.” Winning is a veteran film and television director. He currently has 81 directing projects and some of his work includes movies like “Field Day,” “You, Me & the Christmas Trees,” and “The Nine Kittens of Christmas.” The script for this movie was written by Buddy Baron. Buddy has just three screenwriting credits and they are all Christmas movies. “Magic Stocking” stars Bridget Regan as Lindsay. For Hallmark, Regan also starred in the 2017 “Christmas Getaway.” She's been in a ton of other projects outside of the network, like “The Rookie,” “Jane the Virgin,” “Grey's Anatomy” and “White Collar.” Victor Webster stars as Scott. We last saw Webster in “One Bad Apple: A Hannah Swensen Mystery” and while being a familiar face on the network, he has been seen in other projects like “Workin' Moms,” “Minx,” and the sci-fi series “Motherland: Fort Salem.” Fun fact you might not have known about Victor Webster: he's 6'5” so says the internet AND you can request a Cameo message from him starting at $55. Iris Quinn appears as Lindsay's mom Donna. Quinn has 82 acting credits with several appearances on Hallmark, like “Campfire Christmas,” “Open By Christmas,” “Raise a Glass to Love,” and “Chesapeake Shores.” Fred Henderson plays Mayor Fred. Henderson recently appeared with Victor Webster in last year's “Mystery on Mistletoe Lane.” He has a whopping 155 acting credits including “Signed, Sealed, Delivered: The Impossible Dream,” “The Christmas Waltz,” and “Open By Christmas” which also stars co-sstar Iris Quinn. Imogen Tear plays Hannah. She is probably best known for playing Hattie in 3 seasons of “When Calls the Heart.” Imogen is now 20 years old and will appear in an upcoming movie called “Incoming.” Watch the Trailer for "Magic Stocking"
